This is definitely the best looking Golf, possibly the only one that you could say stands out from the crowd. It does actually look like a HOT hatch. I like the seats and steering wheel too, the best Golf interior by far. For the price I would still take a Focus RS but its good to see VAG finally injecting a bit of spice into their volume cars which are always competent but often dull.

(You may have guessed it) 470 insane Horsepowers... & Belive it or not APR's Enginners are developing a 522 Horsepower System for this engine... its still not done yet, as practise makes Perfect... The same price? Wow, that is weird. I am from the Netherlands, and over here the Clubsport is over 6000 euro more expensive than the GTI Performance! It's basically halfway between the GTI and the R in terms of price here. But: excellent deal for you! Congrats on a great car!
Gerard van Essen Thanks! Like i said: Exactly the same here in Sweden. 32,254 USD for the manual & 33,832.99 for the DSG. My car landed on 37.800 because of the extras which was the following: DSG,DCC,Sunroof, Dynaudio 400W System, Keyless Acess, Extra Airbags in backseats. None of these are a must because the standard GTI CS comes very well equipped with for example Adaptive Cruise Control (which is fantastic). I do however very much recomend the optional Keyless Acess. After a while, youd wonder how you lived without it before.. (should exist for most VW models also) Maby one of the reasons the Clubsport is pricier in Netherlands is that your country may be more interested in the Legendary GTI badge, or just sell more Sport Cars than Sweden in general? With this 40 years of GTI Heritage model, it may also give you a bit better value once you sell it later.. Because its a Special Edition - IF you ever should decide to... ;)
The Clubsport is about 3 to 4k euros more expensive than the normal/Performance GTI. However, you get leather seats without extra costs (1700€) and some other stuff (alcantara steering wheel...). It can get expensive on extras if you do not watch out. Mine started baseline at 34.000€ (Germany) and ended at 46k. Also, in Germany the car comes as stock as it can get, so it won't come with ACC as in Sweden (and I didn't pick it, as it doesn't make sense if you don't do Autobahn with a manual - my case). The R started back then at 39.000 I believe, so 5k more expensive, except if you pick the leather seats (I have picked them) which would then make a 6.7k difference, quite a bit.
Common Fact only for you. If you don know how to drive 4wd with fun, it does not mean it is impossible.Also GTI does not have this jump from the start, which you can do with R. Actually "fast" start on GTI looks not far from start on corolla. Before to buy R, I tried both car. GTI was not club sport, it was 220 hp performance package, but in comparison with R it was really boring car...
I have the same car, if the car is in sport and you push the pedal to the floor, you feel a little "knob" and if you push that in, you have 10 sec 290hp and 380 NM. I love the alcantara steering wheel :)
It's an awesome car and I know it's a different beast to the R but I'd take the R over that anyday! Also microfibre steering wheels always tend to wear quite quickly!
I love the detail that you go into in your reviews. It occurred to me that Volkswagens and Audis are perhaps the perfect Autogefuhl cars because of the attention paid to interior materials, fit/finish and button feel. Indeed the GTI is nicer inside than cars costing much more (3 series for example). But, I can't help wondering if the extra money that VW spends on interior quality comes at the expense of reliability, durability and perhaps other hidden corner-cutting measures (such as what has been famously exposed with diesel-gate). Atleast in the US, VWs are reported to have a more than average number of issues over their lifetimes . When I read owner forums I learn about all manner of bizarre issues that I have never heard of with other makes (even with 10 years of BMW ownership!). Yet when I sit in a VW or Audi product, I really want one because of how nice the interiors are! What are your thoughts?

we are stating the positive and negative aspect with every car. There is no other car review channel who dares to tell every manufacturer that they should stop using animal skin. Everyone else bows down to be able to still get the cars from the manufacturers. We are not afraid to tell the truth - and it does not matter which brand a car comes from. However we dont make a car bad just to find something there isn't. The VW Golf is still one of the best overall cars around (price/performance ratio), you dont have to be a VW fan to acknowledge that

That VW issue is a little bit difficult. On the one hand these cars really make a good impression. On the other hand there are massive quality problems. And what I have observed is that German testers tend to criticize more if it's not a VW or another German product. Maybe German manufacturers meet the German taste better? Many test criteria aren't only due to objective facts but also to very subjective ones.
Autogefühl In my opinion, as I have already said in the recent German comments, you weren't totally fair in rating the space in the rear seats of VW Polo GTI ( in the video at 13.05 ) and the Citroën C3 (in the video at 14.00). I would appreciate it very much if you could be more correct in your next review about the C3. Please watch the mentioned video sections again and be honest if the Polo hasn' t got a little sympathy bonus.

That consumption is about the same as my 528i with xdrive. i averaged about 9-10 liters on german autobahns going anywhere from 100 to almost 200 sometimes.
That 240 sticker. Is that the obligated EU sticker that almost nobody sticks on? I believe it is for the winter tyres right? Still that envy when a car, a bloody probably 1.6D Passat, passes you. We will always be boys when it comes to that. Btw also nice looking watch you have.

I think you are wrong, when the overboost is working, you get 290 hp and 380 NM. You can see it in sport mode from the 3th til 6th, for 10 seconds the boost is going to 2.1 bar.

The Clubsport S Golf GTI is basically prepared for track, it has almost no interior , no AC, everything that is not necessary stripped off plus track tires. Is that fair when comparing it on the track to "production" hot hatches that have non-track tires and all the comfort utilities and the extra weight that comes with them?
I really wonder if there has been (and still is) common philosophy between vw s and porsche s sports road car ... since vw was a car created by ferdinand porsche s industry

i just dont get why u always driving on the left side of autobahn (but not overtaking and keeping the speed limit, is it so hard to move on right side? and let the other pass you if they want) and then u are mad because some gays want to pass you haha..if u are not overtaking is no reason to drive on left side..i just dont get this :D no hard feelings :D great review.

I just got the CS in manual. Feels much more alive than the heavier and imo blunt R.
Agree , i also have a TT AWD and it feels heavy , the CS is much lively through corners .

Why didn't you use the overboost in Sport mode with the kickdown giving you 290hp and 380nm ?

Hi! Ich denke schon, jetzt die Tage kam die Meldung, dass auch Golf R usw. geupdated werden, das wird sich nach und nach durch die Modellpalette ziehen. Da allerdings der Clubsport der letzte war, der vor dem Facelift rausgekommen war, denke ich, das wird auch der letzte sein, der das Facelift erhält.

hope you know that this volkswagen has a sound generator installed. so don't wonder ;) some people deinstall this module to have a more silent font room.
ich finde der 6te Gang muss viel länger übersetzt sein, keine Ahnung wie das bei anderen Autos ist aber wenn ich in den sechsten Gang Schalte sollte die Drehzahl schon richtig absacken. bei 140 kmh auf 2200 Umdrehungen ist denke ich realistisch und ist noch besser zu fahren denke ich
Timo Ta bei 250km/h bist du schon in der Nähe der redline. Ich habe doch den Clubsport mit HS und finde es genau richtig 😊

I think you are wrong, when the overboost is working, you get 290 hp and 380 NM. You can see it in sport mode from the 3th til 6th, for 10 seconds the boost is going to 2.1 bar.
I doubt that car can repeat the record time on the ring because it's heavier than the other one.

Autogefühl Ok Thomas, du hast den Test bestanden. Ich glaube dir, dass es eure aufrichtige Intention ist, jedes Auto und jede Marke objektiv und fair zu behandeln.
Als Autofan hat man ja seine Lieblinge und es tut weh, wenn man das Gefühl hat, dass sie nicht fair bewertet werden. Wobei man für berechtigte Kritik immer offen bleiben sollte. Frohe Weihnachten, mein Freund.
The Clubsport S Golf GTI is basically prepared for track, it has almost no interior , no AC, everything that is not necessary stripped off plus track tires.
Is that fair when comparing it on the track to "production" hot hatches that have non-track tires and all the comfort utilities and the extra weight that comes with them?

i just dont get why u always driving on the left side of autobahn (but not overtaking and keeping the speed limit, is it so hard to move on right side? and let the other pass you if they want) and then u are mad because some gays want to pass you haha..if u are not overtaking is no reason to drive on left side..i just dont get this :D no hard feelings :D great review.
Some people keep driving 120 no matter if 80 or 160 is allowed. When its 100, I drive 100. When its unlimited, I drive faster.
