This song aged well; I like it better now than when I was a senior in High School; those drums! Palmer’s singing; it’s great!

A few of my other favorites from the same album, "Communication", "Murderess", and the cover of an Isley Brothers song "Harvest for the World "

According to Tony Thompson (drummer): All these years, people wanted to sample me. Everyone always assumed that there was some kind of special knobs turned when we did that first Power Station record. All it basically was, was a brand-new Yamaha kit (which I still play) in a very live, brick, recording studio in London called Mason Rouge. I hit the drums very hard. That’s it! [laughs] We did “Some Like It Hot,” and everyone had all these stories, saying all kinds of things, about tricks that were going on. Samples weren’t even around back then. So, bottom line, the sound came from a good kit, hit hard, in a nice live room.

Thompson is being modest. The bottom line also is that Thompson is a great drummer, whose primary influences growing up were Ginger Baker & John Bonham.

This was before Pro Tools and all that. That groove was organic (Chic drummer and Duran Duran bassist and guitarist) and strangely unique. Bang A Gong T Rex cover is another single from this super group ensemble.

Not really. It was one member of Duran Duran who came up with the concept for this group, & he had help from a former member of another group. The Power Station was initiated by Duran Duran's co-founder & bassist John Taylor when he & former Chic drummer Tony Thompson went nightclubbing. Thompson was touring with David Bowie (Serious Moonlight Tour 1983) when he met Taylor in London in between shows. Taylor told Thompson on their night out that he wanted to do a cover of T.Rex's "Get It On" & asked if Thompson wanted to be involved. Thompson said yes. The idea was to do one song before Taylor got Duran Duran's guitarist Andy Taylor involved & Duran Duran's drummer, Roger Taylor, to play percussion. (For those unaware, none of the Taylor's in Duran Duran are related.) Thompson got his former Chic band mate Bernard Edwards to produce the song.
Taylor's & Thompson's idea to do one song evolved into doing an entire album. Taylor now wanted to get multiple singers to sing on various tracks. Robert Palmer was sent a demo of "Some Like It Hot." He liked the song & came up with its lyrics. The idea to have various singers on the album to sing each song was scrapped. Robert Palmer was invited to do all of the vocals. Palmer sang on seven tracks & Andy Taylor did vocals on one song.
The Power Station are: John Taylor (bass), Tony Thompson (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar), Robert Palmer (vocals) & as a guest on the album, Roger Taylor (percussion) & also as the album's producer, Bernard Edwards.

Give Bang a Gong a try from Power Station. It’s a T-Rex cover.

You've got to do Duran Duran if you want to dive into the 1980s, especially since you've done The Power Station, which involves three members from Duran Duran. They have so many songs & hit songs to choose from. They were the biggest band in the world in the mid-1980s. The first suggestion is "Hungry Like The Wolf" but there are multiple versions of this song. The song was released three times in the USA and the version that broke them here is "Hungry Like The Wolf" (NIGHT VERSION). This is the version to do a reaction to. This Night Version has more depth to it. The instrumentation is fuller with better production, & it is just sonically better for the ears than the original & the music video release.
The next 80s song & Duran Duran song to do is the classic "Rio." When many people look back on the 80s, particularly the early 80s musically, Rio is one of the most identifiable songs of that era.

Basically, this is one of the first power groups. Each member from a successful other group, and individual singer Robert Palmer. --The band Duran Duran, the band Chic and Robert Palmer, who was just a FANTASTIC singer (Check out "Addicted to Love" or "Bad Case of Loving You").

If you ever want to do a live view of Addicted to Love, you would get some interest. Some Like It Hot is just dance music in my book but it was played all the time and popular. Lol Mugs, that verse that you are confused about is about sex and a relationship :0)
