  • Highlights from our 6 dives we did in Maui this month; we had the chance to check out Molokini Crater (inside and the back wall), Mala Pier, Pailolo Channel (Molokai hammerhead dive) and the Carthaginian Shipwreck (where we ran into the Atlantis Submarine!). Great trip with great company; thanks again to the awesome folks at Lahaina Divers!

Thank you for noticing that! 🙏🏽We actually got the idea for diving the site after we tried the submarine… to have my friend looking at his dad who doesn’t dive inside the sub 🙂 it was actually pretty easy since the submarine comes by every 30min, so I knew there was a good chance to get the shot. The dive site is the Carthaginian in Lahaina (Maui) 🤙🏽

Just binged about half of your catalog of videos. Really enjoyed the cinematography. You definitely have an eye for composition. I also love the neutral, natural-looking colors you're able to achieve in your underwater wide-angle footage, which mostly appears to be shot with ambient light and manual white balance? If I may ask, what camera and lens combination are you using? And are the natural-looking underwater colors straight out of camera, or the result of meticulous color grading in post? Either way, very nice work. Keep it up!

Thank you Andrei for those very very kind words! I do work meticulously in post to match colors as much as possible, and generally don’t use lights for open ocean / pelagic life (as I find that it scares away the animals that are mostly grey anyway). Anyway, for most my videos I am shooting either with sony A7 cameras and or canon 5d/1d/r cameras. My go to is a 16-35 f4 behind a dome but looking more and more at wacp. Thanks again and dive hard! 🤙🏽

i use many different cameras, they are always changing. DJI in the sky, usually canon or sony mirrorless topside and UW. 80%+ is with a 16-35, somtimes I use the WACP

Do you plan on doing any tutorials on how to do UW photography and videography? That would be awesome and I think a lot of people would love to watch since there are only few videos on youtube

I usually teach technical camera stuff during our video workshops but it’s a great idea to put some of that knowledge up on RUclips. You can learn pretty much anything online these days, but you are right - there’s not many great resources for underwater shooting. Thanks for the idea!
