  • Banco Chinchorro is the western hemisphere's largest coral atoll, and home to some of the most friendly saltwater crocodiles around. In this episode we spend 5 days in the Mexican Yucatán diving with sharks and crocodiles, and explore some mind-bending cenotes.

    Always enjoying your videos! Great work again! I would go to Mex, but the chance to get my video gear taxed at the border scares me more

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  Год назад

      Thank you! The taxing at the border is really only an issue in Cabo / SJD (even though I’m pretty sure what they do there isn’t legal). Never had or heard of any issues on the east side / Cancun or Cozumel. You should go it’s an amazing country!

      @@DiveHard good to know Cabo vs Cancun. Yep, Mex has a lot to offer for scuba and snorkeling

    Good science and management is needed to protect these crocs. I worry about their nests. Also a concern is heavy tourist boat traffic.

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  Год назад

      I agree. They’ve been eliminated from a lot of the Caribbean and there aren’t a lot of man groves left. They don’t get as much love as they deserve 💙🐊

    Was it difficult to get a permit to go to Banco Chinchorro? It is a dive I would love to do.

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  6 месяцев назад +1

      Not very difficult to get the permits (I had XTC help arrange it for me) but you do have to charter out the trip which isn’t cheap. If you can convince a few crazy buddies to come with, that’s the best way to do it. It’s super unique and the whole experience is just 👌🏽

    Those are American crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus), not saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) of South East Asia and Australia.

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  9 месяцев назад

      Yes that is correct! It would be a bit more sketchy with those guys 🙃
