    Amazing video my good man! I went to Socorro, also on the 'Nautilus' this February and also had time of my life. Not as many hammerheads, but lots of galapagos and reef sharks on the cleaning stations overall. The manta encounters were incredible- just as you said! Roca partida was tough as nails, as the conditions made it challenging. Finally we could 'hear' the humpback whales from a distance- and the group 1 week after us, had the pleasure of having both mother and baby whale hang out at Roca for hours. That's Socorro for you :)

    Great video and editing! We were just in Socorro in Feb ‘23 for the second year in a row. Roca Partida was a bit rougher for our visit, but we had a whale shark encounter that was very special.

    Nice video, I've been to Socorro twice both times in early December and dived in only a 3 mm wetsuit. Thinking of going in early May next year and was wondering what wetsuit thickness you wore in April. Thanks again for the memories

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  Год назад +1

      Thank you! I almost always dive a 7mm standard scuba wetsuit but if you were okay with a 3mm in December I think a 3mm will be fine in May as well. I usually suggest people bring a 5mm since you do dive 4x a day and toward the end of the trip it starts to get a bit cold. cheers!

      @@DiveHard just got back. Was so epic. And I asked Gato if he remembered you because he was talking about the false killer whales and tuna at Roca. You were on ship with him - he lives in FL. Thinking about going for the grouper aggregation in September.
      Waiting on my M1 to edit, hopefully in a few weeks. The Hero 10 is surpassing my 2015 Macbook. Gotta love that 5.3k 60fps though.
      What an unbelievable crew and extremely expedient response to 2 life-threatening emergencies. And Roca man, I could dive there every day. I got rammed by a whale shark. Knocked out my strobe. Stay tuned for vid. Hope all is well.

      Thank you! 🙏🏽 It’s an incredible place and definitely deserves to be on every divers bucket list - and always a good idea to add a time constraint. It’s the only way I get anything done! Camera gear is always changing but it’s usually a mix of canon / Sony UW and topside and DJI in the sky. Currently shooting with the r5c, c70 and DJI mavic air 2S

    Stunning video, we're going in April this year and hopefully get a similar experience. What was the water temp and what would you recommend in terms of wetsuits? Cheers

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  Год назад +1

      Thank you!! 🙏🏽 It won’t be the exact same experience but it’ll be awesome and full of surprises. Hope that the ocean gives you the magic. Temps were like 75-80c when I was there but you never know. You could probably get away with a 3mm but id recommend at least a 5mm since you’re doing 4 dives a day. I usually go with a warm 7mm

    Great video! Very informative. I am heading to Socorro in a week and plan to film underwater. I am wondering if I should shoot with my Sony a7iii or just keep it simple and shoot with GoPros. I am trying to travel light. I was wondering what you shot your footage with. Also planning to bring a small drone. Are there any specific laws or regulations there? Thank you!

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  2 месяца назад

      Thank you! 🙏🏽 that’s awesome. I usually say keep it simple and take your GoPro, especially if it’s relatively new. Generally good viz and close encounter which works super well with the GoPro. Also you have less opportunity to screw up capturing the magic moments that come unexpectedly. But of course I don’t follow my own advice and always dive with a big rig. But I have friends that only shoot minimal iPhone (topside) + GoPro (underwater) + mavic mini (aerial) and creating killer videos. I am starting to appreciate minimalist set ups. Much more enjoyable and lower stress. I do think Socorro is a good place to do that. Good luck wish you many sharks mantas and dolphins 🙏🏽 🤙🏽

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! 🙏🏽 It’s open ocean so you never know, you could have pretty mild current, or a ripping one. But Cozumel currents are generally very mild on a relative basis. Open ocean currents can easily by 5-10x as strong so be prepared to dive hard! Have a great time 🤙🏽

    Is there difference between coming at top season in April and first half of May?

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  Год назад

      It’s really hard to predict with any precision - the ocean / season are changing every year too so ‘peak season’ is always a little bit different. It really has more to do with the luck you have in the week that you are on the boat more than anything. I don’t think there is a ‘bad’ time to go to Socorro. I like going in November and April, but some of the best encounters I’ve had were in December and February. Chance for bait balls is higher in April/ May, whales in Feb, and lots of unexpected magic year round. I didn’t answer your question but hope this helps 🙃

    What was the water temperature at Socorro while you were there and what mil of wet suit did you wear?

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  11 месяцев назад

      I was there in late April and the water temps were in the 23 - 26C range. I almost always use a heavy 5mm or 7mm since I prefer to be too warm than too cold. 4 dives a day does take a toll and you’ll feel it by the end of the trip. Though we are ramping into an El Niño year so might be warmer. Cheers 🤙🏽

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  2 года назад

      @@brandonlaraque nice, canon renders colors super well. Can’t go wrong with any of the newer offerings. I sometimes use lights but not in place like this since they generally push away the wildlife, and a lot of them are neutral / gray / white / black color anyway (sharks, mantas, dolphins, etc.). Hi, can you tell me Pls, what`s the best Month to dive there ??

    • @DiveHard
      @DiveHard  9 месяцев назад

      It’s generally very good all season (November - May) but there are chances for different things in different months. May is good for baitballs while around feb is better for humpbacks. Of course nothing is guaranteed and I’ve had some of my best trips in October, December and April. The mantas and dolphins are basically residents. I’d say it’s much more about the luck of the week you go vs. the month you pick. Cheers! 🤙🏽
