  • The Molokai Hammerhead dive through the Lahaina Divers charter is one of the best dives accessible by an hour long boat ride from west Maui.
Hammerheads, Galapagos, Barracuda and occasionally a Hawaiian Monk seal shows up to hang out.
Definitely worth checking out if you're looking to scuba while visiting Maui.

Great video! I went out today and it was a great dive. My video came out pretty disappointing-super blue (despite red filter) and pretty tough to make out the sharks that I *was* seeing. What type of camera were you using? If a GoPro Hero9, what settings? Please be detailed (camera & app)-I’d love to learn how to do better next time.

Normal GoPro 9 settings, nothing special. I use premier pro later to add the color back in. There are quite a few RUclips videos about adding color back to underwater footage, I can’t remember exactly what video I watched but once you get it, you can fool around and get good results easily.

I did this dive 2 years ago and had the same results with my Paralenz. I used the dive+ app to fix most of it.

Hi Eric, awesome video! I'm thinking about doing the hammerhead shark dive with Lahaina Divers this December but bit concerned that the sharks may not be there. Are both dives blue water dives? Do they go to a different dive site if the sharks don't show up?

      Hey Tom,
Your chances of seeing sharks won't be determined by the time of year. They have really good days year round, it's just a roll of the dice. Your chances of not seeing sharks is pretty low. It's not very often that they get skunked, it happens, but not as much as you would think.
Here is a dive in late November, sharks were everywhere.

I worked for this company for about a year and I can share that your dive history will determine the group you're placed in. Group one should have the most experienced instructor that knows the site best.
Both dives are identical, they start on the reef and then the current pulls you out into the blue for a drift dive.
I would go if you get the chance.

Planning on doing this dive in February is conditions are good. What was depth of your dive?

Is there a time of year when the hammers are numerous?

During the summer is better they say. During the winter months when the whales are here they tend to move somewhere else… that being said, they have had really good days in the winter as well.
It’s mixed so you might as well go whenever you get the chance!
