Willie is one of the last truly beloved Americans. People of many stripes will be grieving when he leaves this Earth. Mark Twain said you should live the kind of life where, when you die, even the undertaker is sad. Willie lives that kind of life. He's put his money, time and energy into the things he believes in for most of his life. So glad I got to see him just before the 2020 pandemic hit. My buddy sprang for front row center tickets. He was rumored to be frail but we saw no evidence of that. He soloed on every tune and his family band was stellar. Great show. My buddy snagged Willie's (autographed) hat when he tossed it into the crowd and I snagged a bandana a few songs later. Great night. And this is not to take anything away from the genius that is BB King. I got to see him "live" in Seattle many years ago. Not only a funny and great showman with a kick-ass band, but a great great guitar player through and through. I was hosting a virtual themed open mike on facebook with the theme of "Blues-ish" songs and a friend posted this video, which though I'm a fan of both these dudes, I had never seen. So many thanks for posting this!
You kiddin me? Only 12,000 Views here? Fuckin fantastic artistry...The late great BB King and the great Willie Nelson... together on New Years Eve? Whats the matta with You Tube people these days? There should be 20 million views on this thing. Damn!
I remember when my father n law bought both recordings of this. The work was quite exhaustive writing and making notes on both singers but the results were awesome. I'd play parts for one singer and player, then other parts of Willie. My father n law played like Willie and sang it like B.B King. Memories like this are always with us to be carried on in time through generations.
Willie wrote it and recorded it, B. B. recorded it, and they each had great success with it... It's heavily associated with both of them... Really these are the only two that should ever perform it. (I do believe that Trigger has impure thoughts about Lucille.)

What a fantastic live version of this song. I first heard their duet from BB's 1997 album, Deuces Wild, which is also brilliant.

Oddly enough, this was my introduction to the blues.

I happened to smoke a blunt with willie. O died five times.
Great, except that Willie's guitar is way out of tune.
Iąm not sure about that. ! Sounds great. Itąs Willieąs brilliant style!
