I stand corrected, it is Mssr Lanois, and it is his arrangement. It sounds so different on my phone than on a full-fledged stereo system. It doesn't need me to say so, but it is a fine work

      @rabbi120348 3 года назад +3

Here's a pretty close paraphrase of a piece of an article I read about "Wrecking Ball": He leaves plenty of space for Harris' voice. This is good, because any musician, even one as talented as Daniel Lanois, who goes up against Emmylou Harris' voice is going to come away with a good pasting.
LOL -- they both know how to "play nice with others" and the result is magic.

Above and beyond everything about the song--which is of genius and God to be sure--is Willie's attention and dedication to making the song come out as heartfelt and genuine as possible. He and Emmy seem both is awe and transfixed by Mr Lanois and rightfully so...my fav moment is at the very end when Willie looks up and has the "there but for the grace of God go I " look in his eyes--like hes truly thankful to be a part of that song while it was happening.

Oh, oh deep water, black and cold like the night
I stand with arms wide open,
    I've run a twisted line
I'm a stranger in the eyes of the Maker
I could not see for the fog in my eyes
I could not feel for the fear in my life
And from across the great divide, In the distance I saw a light
Jean Baptiste's walking to me with the Maker
My body is bent and broken by long and dangerous sleep
I can't work the fields of Abraham and turn my head away
I'm not a stranger in the hands of the Maker
Brother John, have you seen the homeless daughters
    Standing there with broken wings
I have seen the flaming swords
    There over east of Eden
Burning in the eyes of the Maker
Burning in the eyes of the Maker
Burning in the eyes of the Maker
Oh, river rise from your sleep

@coozamel I actually do believe you're right. She's just so talented and is able to do her own wonderful thing, but knows how to give the artists that she works with enough room to make their own magic as well and that's the mark of a true and confident artist. She another example of a musician's musician. Peace.

Is there anybody on the planet that this woman can't sing with. I heard a comment once that everything tastes better with peanut butter on it and everything sounds better with Emmylou in it. I bought this cd and have about wore out this track.
