    Years after falling in love with the original recording, I still think it׳’s one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard. And on that original, the bass also dominates, it’s otherworldly,
    It’s about Christian salvation, I׳m Jewish, and it doesn’t matter. What he seeks is universal.

      Yes Harold, the power Daniel is trying to point to in the song is reffered to in different terms the world over - Consciousness, Shakti, Source, Buddha Mind, Christ Consciousness, Shiva and the Holy Spirit. It matters not what name it is called but is is always One with Itself, non dual. At the end of the song Daniel referrs to it has 'the great river'. Daniel has obvisiously realised this in his own consciousness, at least in part, or the lyrics could not have been written. Greetings from Dublin town.

    Bass riff is the absolute foundation of the song, those harmony vocals are awesome and when the drums come in, they take it to another, even higher level. Textbook example how to build up a song.

    • @mikearchibald744

      True enough, but I like the album version better, the drums and bass kick it off together like a big sonic feast and then the vocals take it up to a whole higher level, I mean you can't complain about Emmylou's Harris' voice (or anything for that matter) on a song but after the first listen to the song you realize the lyrics aren't just 'oo baby baby' and when the singer sings their song, it takes it to yet another level. But who can get enough of Emmylou Harris?

    I notice shades of U2 and the Edge in Daniel's songs. I wonder if he influenced the Edge's guitar riffs when he produced for them?

    • @darwinsaye
      @darwinsaye Год назад +2

      I think Daniel has absorbed bits and pieces in his style from a couple of artists. His more contemporary sound is reminiscent of Neil Young’s electric sound, and he even has a guitar that has been modified in the same ways as Neil Young’s. And he said in interviews that he uses dotted eighth-note delays “like the Edge”, so I assume he got that from him. Besides, the Edge was using that sound for years before he worked with Lanois.
