James Williams I agree. I should have said that her hair style in the 2000’s was more flattering, the only pics of her black hair that I’ve seen it just hangs there, the style back then for a folk singer.
Emmylou held it together better than I did. I can't imagine the memories this must conjure up from all those years ago when she was performing with Graham before he was taken too soon.
Recently was rewatching one of the early (mid '70s) performances of Emmy Lou with Dolly & Linda singing A Mother's Gift and thinkin' how she had already lost Gram at such a young age. Had to come back to this video where you can see her thinkin' of him...the loss...

Its got to be like seeing your child do something excellent. These two are the musical grandchildren of artists like Emmylou. The next generations treasuring and honouring you and your legacy. Can't imagine what that must feel like, but I'm guessing wonderful and deeply moving.
Man, they wrote these lyrics at 14. So articulate and well thought through, so "grown up"... from Sweden and have been a fan for a long time but I didn't know the back story for this song.
when you are inspired you bring the best of you in that moment!ha This happens also to me... There is something that we still have to learn "read" and discover of ourself
Dear sisters, Klara and Johanna Söderberg, thank you for bringing tremendous soul to the singing of this song to honor women performers who paved the way for younger women artists like yourselves. Thank you for singing from the heart and interpreting the music with depth of spirit, energy, and compassion. As a musician and poet, I appreciate all you are doing and look forward to hearing you in person someday soon. May God bless and keep you always.
Emmy lou is simply one of the best and been around for so many years. Her voice is so special. She's more beautiful now than ever with her silver white hair. And the fact you girls wrote this song in her honor is just awesome! What a blessing that must e been to her! Good job!
Imagine having life’s work honored by hearing or seeing young people make more art out of that foundation, and that know that “work”’, and are doing it in the world with intentions like the ones you have. The honor and love was so beautiful, and palpable really. Just love seeing inter-generational moments like this, with a sense of thankfulness that is powerful enough for everyone to enjoy. So moving.
Emmylou is revered as one of roots music's finest, so this is so special to see these talented young women offering this beautiful ode to her. She has had an incredible career and has a breathtaking body of work!
That was a beautiful song and Emmylou Harris is such a pure class act. Nice to see some new young people who can write and sing a proper country song that isn't about a 4x4 down at the crik, drinking beers.
I came to see Emmylou emotional, and then I cried when I saw the King of Sweden not only into it, but moved by it and sharing a special moment with her over it.
And to top it all off....they wrote this in a language they were not born into. I hear no accent at all in their speaking or singing voices. Just absolutely brilliant.
I don't know why this always makes me cry so hard. Like waayy harder than Emmylou, who has very personal ties to the song obviously. Part of it is for the incredible country singers that passed away of course, and not just them dying as singers but also them dying as friends and family to their loved ones. I've experienced a lot of loss myself so it hits me kinda hard I guess. And it's just so beautiful.

I wouldn’t put a thumb down neither but come on, you really need to listen to more music because it’s a beautiful yet simplistic song both in terms of technicality and singing... there’s waaaay better, no offense to the artists, because it’s nice but well... 😅 Joni Mitchell did way more powerful and marvelous songs, only in this genre. And there’s more genres that are just sublime in terms of music 😌
Well you know, Emmylou, many times your quite, wonderful ballads have been strong enough to gush tears from others. I suspect part of the power here was the bluegrass feel, the lyrics, the age of the performers. I keep saying it, music doesn't need to be over the top, electric to just blow through people. REAL, REAL, REAL. It has to be real. These 2 certainly qualify there!
I cry every time I hear this song! I saw Emmylou and Johnny Cash at the Telluride Bluegrass Frstival with my Dad. He passed away kat August and I cherish those memories with him!
When I first heard that clear, angelic voice of Emmylou way back when, I was completely captured. What a wonderful tribute by these talented young women. This was simple and beautiful and speaks volumes about the parents of these two.

@@capecodliz Thanks my friend for those kind words.
Emmy Lou Harris is from Alabama
Emmylou was in the same age like this girls been now, when she lost the love of her life. So I think, that´s what brought her to tears.
Not to mention she probably would have never expected these girls to write such an incredible song in her, or should I say their, honor. I bet it was a very bittersweet and touching moment for her.
I know she loved Gram but I'm not sure he was love of her life.
@@dejordyball She said she knew true love once. Given she has written two songs specifically about him (Boulder to Birmingham and The Road), an album about their time together (The Ballad of Sally Rose), and numerous other songs that strongly hint about Gram plus she tears up when his name is mentioned, I'm pretty sure he was the one. Almost wish for her sake it wasn't because she has really suffered. They seemed to have an intense musical bond that continues today. She includes music by him in every concert.
@@margaretross9150 Her song Michelangelo is pretty much about GP, just gorgeous check out the song and lyrics. Not a song you write about a long-departed man you once had a purely professional relationship with, imo. But we will probably never know the full story, ELH tells no tales and respects her own privacy. It's all in the songs, actually, you can hear the the truth there.
@@aurorabanks8161So true. She respects his privacy too. Very loving.
RUclips's algorithms have been trying to get me to watch this clip for several years. I have always resisted (being somewhat allergic to forced sentiment and put off by the "Emmylou moved to tears" slug).
This afternoon I had one of those YT generated playlists running while I'm getting some work done and the video came up in the mix.
Shame on ME for being so tardy to the party and wow. A precious moment and some exceptionally talented "next generation" artists.
Brava!
Tardy to the party 😂😂 Might have to steal that one!!
My God - there is hope for music and you can see it in the eyes of the legends sitting in the audience. Well done girls.
I said the exact same thing when I heard this tune 😊superb voices and sweet harmonies only possible from siblings
Well said

rodsreel: As if great music, great artists, great vocalists and great song writing are rarer today than in your era old man. There’s more talent today than ever. It just isn’t spoon fed to the masses by a few jackazz recording corporations and monopolistic radio behemoths anymore no matter what iHeart would like you to think. Musicians are free from the three-pieces. It puts more onus on you to find them and support them. BTW I’m old.
Yes!!!!
While this is very emotional, and I absolutely love First Aid Kit; I got to say with all respect, that Emmylou Harris is still strikingly beautiful.
I noticed that too. I hope I look that good at her age. (It would be an improvement, lol).
I thought the same. I guarantee shes 100% natural too. No fake stuff there. I adore her my mom used to play her for me as a very young girl some 32 yrs ago. Now I can introduce First Aid kit to my babe Gypsy so she knows what real music is . Not that terrible stuff they pawn off on the masses these days.
What a gorgeous live performance. 🧡
RetroRich she rocks silver hair like no other. Right around 2000 was her peak I think, she looked better than when she was young.
@@tjwash2 She certainly rocks silver hair, but she was gorgeous with the black hair too.
Sorry to be pedantic but it's Gram not Graham
Recently was rewatching one of the early (mid '70s) performances of Emmy Lou with Dolly & Linda singing A Mother's Gift and thinkin' how she had already lost Gram at such a young age. Had to come back to this video where you can see her thinkin' of him...the loss...
@@davidmellish3295 Thanks for the correction, but you should have used a comma after the word "pedantic" to separate your independent clauses, and ended your sentence with a period.
This isn’t normally my style of music, but this is so gorgeous. I don’t know how anyone doesn’t choke up, listening to it. 💜
Hello dear how are you doing today?
Learn from it
It's been a year since you posted. I hope country has gone on to become part of your style of music 🙌
I said the same thing years ago but lately I've been buying up 1970's country music records and I really enjoy them. Very easy to listen to and relaxing.
Such sweet, beautiful, young voices.... It is sooo good to hear this.... to know that the appreciation of what Emmylou and those with her have shared with us will continue.... The

Emmylou is as beautiful today as she was in the 80s!
More so.
In addition, she was one of the vocalists including Monica Mancini and Judy & John Rodman on the long-running music/variety TV program, "Years Later" on Bravo.
Aired from September 23, 1992-present, a co-production of Lighthearted Entertainment and Sternin & Fraser Ink LLC for Sony Pictures Television.
I'd still hit it 👵🏻
Something about seeing Emmylou Harris cry just made me lose it. I was bawling like a little girl seeing her moved to tears. These girls have a lot of talent and it is rare for people their age to appreciate this music like that
This has to be one of the greatest co plummets any artist and musician could ever receive. Better than any awards, money, tv spots...anything. To make young people want to follow in your footsteps. What an honor, and she felt it too. Well done.
Well it brought me to tears too. Just pure heart. So beautiful. Re-watching.
Well tonight I learned I love some band called First Aid Kit. Watching this was the loveliest experience I've had online in a long time
Wow
you should check out lily thai
Thank you I will. Is that a band or a song?
This song must bring up so many memories for Emmylou, from her incredible life and career. And of all the greats that shaped her life.
And some regrets . .
Anyone give props to the drummer? Fabulous. Entire piece is gorgeous.
I was fortunate enough to see these amazing young women perform in Austin, Texas. They closed the set with this song. It was a night I will always treasure.
Emmylou is sitting next to the king of Sweden, Carl Gustav. Emmylou received the Polar Music Prize i Sweden. She was really worth it!
Just saw them in concert in Colorado. They’re great! So cool to see a younger generation paying tribute to those who came before.
Gram Parsons is smiling down too........after all those years.....just great these kids got it and understood.....incredible ....

Oh the bitter winds are coming in
And I'm already missing the summer
Stockholm's cold, but I've been told
I was born to endure this kind of weather
When it's you I find, like a ghost in my mind
I am defeated and I gladly wear the crown
[Chorus: Klara & Johanna Söderberg]
I'll be your Emmylou and I'll be your June
If you'll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No, I'm not asking much of you
Just sing, little darling, sing with me
[Verse 2: Klara & Johanna Söderberg]
Now so much I know that things just don't grow
If you don't bless them with your patience
And I've been there before, I held up the door
For every stranger with a promise
But, I'm holding back, that's the strength that I lack
Every morning keeps returning up my window
And it brings me to you, and I won't just pass through
But I'm not asking for a storm
[Chorus: Klara & Johanna Söderberg]
I'll be your Emmylou and I'll be your June
If you'll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No, I'm not asking much of you
Just sing, little darling, sing with me
[Bridge: Johanna Söderberg, both]
And yes, I might have lied to you
But you wouldn't benefit from knowing the truth
I was frightened but I held fast
I need you now at long last
[Chorus: Klara Söderberg]
I'll be your Emmylou and I'll be your June
If you'll be my Gram and my Johnny too
No, I'm not asking much of you
Just sing, little darling, sing with me

Magnificent
Emmylou wears her hair like a crown of platinum...so beautiful she is.
At the beginning I thought she didn't like it-then realized she was holding back tears that whole time.
Just imagine what's it like when someone a quarter of your age says "you're such an inspiration to us that we wrote a whole song to dedicate it to you". I think that's incredible.
@@TheWinjin and what a song it is too. Holy crap to be honest. I mean, it's pure class this song. It's not any tribute.
@@TheWinjin Not just the one song ...
Its got to be like seeing your child do something excellent. These two are the musical grandchildren of artists like Emmylou. The next generations treasuring and honouring you and your legacy. Can't imagine what that must feel like, but I'm guessing wonderful and deeply moving.
This is probably the sweet sweet music J.R.R. Tolkien was talking about when thinking about the Elves. These girls have angels' voices.
Tippier Sky indeed my friend.. indeed!
Nah. There's no way elves have a rhythm section.
Whut ?
There is so much innocence and purity in their music , i hope they don't loose it to the world
Shit man. So true.
From Sweden..We dont go for that stuff :)
Man, they wrote these lyrics at 14. So articulate and well thought through, so "grown up"... from Sweden and have been a fan for a long time but I didn't know the back story for this song.
when you are inspired you bring the best of you in that moment!ha
This happens also to me...

So moving.

This was really well-said. A terrific summary.
Emmylou is revered as one of roots music's finest, so this is so special to see these talented young women offering this beautiful ode to her. She has had an incredible career and has a breathtaking body of work!
Emmylou Harris is an American icon. But I had to edit this comment. This song has helped😊 my family thru cancer and other health …A fan always
That was a beautiful song and Emmylou Harris is such a pure class act. Nice to see some new young people who can write and sing a proper country song that isn't about a 4x4 down at the crik, drinking beers.
I like drinking beer
If your music can bring one of your musical heroes and inspirations to tears of joy, you have accomplished something magical.
I came to see Emmylou emotional, and then I cried when I saw the King of Sweden not only into it, but moved by it and sharing a special moment with her over it.

greetings back at you! also in Ireland! good taste in music too I see! !
kerry evans love yer accent! Country girl?

WOW,,,,Folk music is BACK.. Thank you ladies...

Why would anybody put a thumbs down to that. Literally one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Such a beautiful tribute to Emmy and Gram. They made the world better by just being among us. RIP Gram.😔
And there’s more genres that are just sublime in terms of music 😌

personal choice, boring song
Well you know, Emmylou, many times your quite, wonderful ballads have been strong enough to gush tears from others. I suspect part of the power here was the bluegrass feel, the lyrics, the age of the performers. I keep saying it, music doesn't need to be over the top, electric to just blow through people. REAL, REAL, REAL. It has to be real. These 2 certainly qualify there!
YUP...you said it...no other way.
Such a gift to honor and show respect to a mentor while they yet live.
I cry every time I hear this song! I saw Emmylou and Johnny Cash at the Telluride Bluegrass Frstival with my Dad. He passed away kat August and I cherish those memories with him!
