- After Uncle Roger @mrnigelng posted about the BBC "chef" destroying rice for fried rice, I just HAD to make a video to better represent our golden grain.
A foolproof way to cook almost any rice on the stovetop! (note: brown rice or aged basmati may take more water and cook time)
Here we learn how to cook jasmine rice on the stovetop. While most people have rice cookers that take the guesswork out of the cooking process, this method is slowly becoming a lost art! Learn how to cook rice without burning it ever again! I certainly burnt my rice the first time I tried to cook it years ago!
This method works for any amount of rice, although you should increase the cook time by 5 minutes for 4 cups of rice!
How much rice should you cook???
1 measured cup raw = 3-4 side servings cooked
All you'll need is:
rice
mixing bowl
saucepot with cover
water
NO SALT, NO OIL!
Instructions:
1. wash your rice in the mixing bowl till water runs clear
2. transfer to sauce pot
3. add enough water till it reached 1cm (or half an inch) above rice level
4. cover and bring to boil on MAX
5. when it just starts to steam, turn to low
6. leave covered and allow to cook 15-20mins
7. shut off heat and let sit at least 5mins
8. fluff rice and serve immediately
Easy peesy!
I love how she just goes straight into the video
No stories or history lessons here! Just a simple how-to! No time to waste! :)
I followed your video and my rice came out perfect!! Thank you.. I always had trouble cooking jasmine rice
Happy to help! :)

What’s the measurement ?…
First time I was able to cook the rice perfectly. Thank you!
My pleasure 😊 I love hearing this!!
This was so simple! Thank you so much!
You're so welcome!
I am making jasmine rice for the first time tonight (I come from a family of minute-rice makers). It smells SO GOOD. And it is killing me not lifting the lid and stiring while cooking.
I hope your first time was successful! Thanks for watching! 😊
😅 same!!
You can ALSO keeo the water when you rinse the rice and use it in bath or shower to rinse your hair. Your hair will thank you. It makes it soft and shiny.
Wow really
That's good to know! Thank you for your reply!
This was perfect!! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
First time making Jasmin rice and it came out delicious because of this video! Thank you ! 😎
I'm so happy to hear! I hope you enjoyed it! ❤

Thank you again.
Ooo so easy how u explain it. Thanks allot
Thank you so much🙏
This is the greatest rice cooking video on the internet
Wow! Thank you so much!
I just learned to cook the perfect egg. Now im upgrading to rice! Thank you!
Nice looking rice 👍
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but would this work for white rice that is not jasmin?
GOD BLESS YO SOUL 🙏🏽
Thx for the tips
I always had problems cooking Jasmin rice
Happy to help!
The biggest question I have about cooking rice is do the instructions on rice packages assume you are using rinsed or unrinsed rice?
I’ve never known rice to be pre rinsed like this.
It worked!!! Thank you
Could you do one for how to make brown rice please?
Yes indeed….now that is the video needed!
What if we don’t have a transparent lid?
You don't need a transparent lid. Set to low once you see the steam start, set a timer for 15-20mins.
How long is it supposed to sit, before you stir it. Thanks.
Let it sit for at least 5mins before fluffing.
Can you use just any rice that you get from tesco or target where ever you are from?
Any type of jasmine rice would work.
@@therealchefwoo9295 thankyou! :)
I just want to make a small batch for myself. How much water for 1/4 cup of jasmine rice?
No matter what amount of rice you make, you always measure enough water until it is 1cm above the rice level. 1/4 cup of rice is very little, you may be better off cooking more and freezing uneaten portions.
@@therealchefwoo9295 thank you
i think the point of rinsing the rice is not really bc it is dirty but to remove extra starch?
For both reasons! :)
Hello sister, thanks for the video. Is the rice sticky when cooked this way?
Thank you! Stickiness will depend on how much water you use! If you like less sticky, use a bit less water! At about 1cm (1/2 inch), the rice will have a slight stickiness. It can also depend on your type of rice, as I find jasmine has different grades of quality! I would likely do a few trials with your rice to determine what works best for you! :)
Thank you sister! I will keep this in mind. I use basmati, but the next time I have jasmine I will keep your video in my back pocket😁❤. I wasn't raised on rice, so in getting a late start! Trying to get it right! Love your video, very direct and you are a responsive person, valuable and respectable qualities. Thanks!
@@ayahboyer6365 thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words! Basmati will have a slightly different method, and I almost always follow instructions on the packaging to be sure! It may require a bit more water if it has been aged, and also usually requires soaking before cooking. Keep me posted on your rice adventures! :) I always like to read about people's experiences!
I never wash my rice, I 'm a filthy pig ! This a good idea actually, didnt even really think about it until now, I thought it was for (rinsing) to wash off some excess starch or gluten (does rice even have it ?) or something.
you don't add salt?
No salt personally, but add to your liking :)
is this a good recipe for doing fried rice the next day??
sorry this might be a dumb question but its my first time making fried rice haha
Day old rice is the best rice for fried rice! This rice would be perfect!
@@therealchefwoo9295 awesome im gonna try this recipe tomorrow then try fried rice the next day!! thanks so much for making such a short but also informative cooking video lots of other cooking videos seem too long 😅
@@therealchefwoo9295 the rice and the fried rice turned out great thanks!!
How much rice is that?
That was 2 rice cooker cups, which is usually a 3/4 cup. So 1.5 cups probably.
I screwed up some Jasmine rice yesterday. Too sticky and gooey
Turn off your tap inbetween washing!!!
Forgot to wash it .... oh well
Did it turn out alright anyways?
@@therealchefwoo9295 it did! Thank you 👍🏻
Mann I wouldn't eat thay
@@brunettezprettyr4296 rice isn't dirty it'll just be gooey if you don't wash off the extra starch
@@d1ssolv3r my husband works in a rice factory and sometimes the men pee on it on the boats before it gets to the factory. Rice is dirty my friend always wash.
All that washing is unnecessary. All that white water is the starch from the rice. When cooking, the water still turns white anyway.
Thank you for your comment. Washing the dirt and excess starch from the rice is in fact very necessary in order to avoid a gelled mass of rice. Your rice will be fluffy if cooked according to these instructions. 😊
i don't have time for that washing
It is worth the trouble, I assure you!
You could’ve closed the tap!
You are absolutely right! I will keep this in mind for future videos! Thank you for the reminder!
What is that to you anyway?
@@gigigeorge-taylor8692 It is important to conserve water wherever we live. Elementary school kids are taught that. In some countries water and electricity bills are pretty high.
@@isaemann8638 oh really ! Am not sure about your neck of wood. What do you mean by elementary kids know that? Your lingo is not mine period
@@gigigeorge-taylor8692 oh where is your neck of wood? I live in Canada & when my kids were in school, they were taught not to waste water.
Weren’t you taught that in your school? So sorry your school failed to educate you!
Im not gonna wash my rice I don’t give a fuck
👍🏻
Yeah but you failed to tell us how much rice you used so I’m still sol
It's not a recipe, it's a how-to video. But since you need a recipe, I suggest the following guidelines to know how much rice to make:
1 cup of uncooked rice = 2 cups cooked rice (2-4 servings)
Follow the instructions of the video to know how much water to put. Hope that helps.
Not good why u dint say hoe much rice n how much water as all do so lame
The amount of rice doesn't really matter, so long as you fill the amount of water to 1cm (1/2 inch) above the rice level you are cooking. It could be 1 cup, 2 cups, 1.75 cups, doesn't matter. As long as you wash your jasmine rice as shown in the video, use the 1cm (1/2 inch) rule and cook it for the right amount of time, it will 99% come out. It has yet to fail me, and you can see from comments that it works. I'm sorry you find it lame.
😮 as long as it has MORE water than rice- youre good. Keep an eye on it so it doesnt boil dry and burn.
Her instructions are actually spot on
Please save water…
You are absolutely right! Going forward, I will keep this in mind! Thank you for the reminder!
You mean to save the rice water? Why? Just curios.
@@bitchface235 not the rice water. I meant “turn the tap off”. The potential future water crisis is real, and such videos that multitudes of people will see can learn simple ways to conserve water. I actually save the rice water to water my plants.
@@drshravani 😂😂😂 ok karen
