To be completely fair towards Jaden, it's not all his fault. Sure, he seems like a pretentious jerk, I won't argue that, but this young boy probably never have been challenged or had to face any consequences since he's born. And as the movie goes, Shyamalan can be very bad at directing actors. Just look at Mark Whalberg in The Happening, a very decent actor that acts as if he had a pineapple shoved up his ass and talking as if he was afraid to push it further in his rectum(sorry for the image but that's what I imagine each time I see him act or speak in this movie) ; ) I know it could be that he's just a bad actor, but jeez! The dialogues! They're not the worst I've heard but darn. Just the techno babble in this film is enough to drive me nuts(and I oddly like it, reminds me of Star Trek, except that Star Trek have really good writing and dialogues) Still, his cringy acting is really funny. That oxygen thing REALLY pissed me off. You can't have ginormous birds, baboons, etc. in a low-oxygen environment, you just can't! That's why bugs were huge back in prehistoric times and can't exist now. But that's okay. Will Smith and Shyamalan don't need to worry about piddling things like science, continuity, sensical plot elements, flow, pace, natural dialogue...

Same. At first I felt bad for him since like many children of huge movie stars and other child actors he's likely to be isolated and damaged from being exposed to Hollywood. Then I read some of the shit he says and does and any empathy goes out the window pretty fast. He's quite possibly one of the worst examples of a spoiled brat I can think of, dude's parents _bought him his own school_ so he could learn at his own pace and still needed to be home schooled anyways and got emancipated at 15 to get away from his parents and moved into his own mansion with their money.
@@wanderingseth yeah, giving kids everything they want is one of those things that SOUNDS like a good idea but typically backfires. I saw the effects of that first hand in my family: some of my dad's siblings and some of my cousins were spoiled and the ones who were often turned out entitled or had terrible decision making skills. Had an uncle who couldn't really connect with his kids so he just gave them what they wanted, same as his dad did with him, and his kids were chasing instant gratification for most of their lives. Depressing part is they're so wealthy any stupid decisions can be paved over with cash. Across their lives they'll likely piss away enough money to feed and cloth a small city of poor people.
Will Smith: ok, who wants to be a singer and who wants to be an actor. Willow: i like singing. Jaden: i hv no talent. Will Smith: ok jaden, you can be an actor.

P.S.--- I'm extremely tired right now, so if that makes no sense, put it into a paragraph that sounds funny and makes sense...or something that just sounds funny LOL Either works for me :)
Yeah, I noticed all the oxygen shit too. Mammals are fine, birds are fine, but humans need oxygen? And the tons of vegetation? Oh okay then. Lame. I also don't understand why he couldn't have taken his cordless oxygen mask from the ship with him.
I'm not an expert in that field but if I remember correctly plants produces carbon dioxide at night, and oxygen during the day, and in their life cycle they produce as much waste than O2 so I don't think it would really matter. Not only that, it took millions of years for the oxygen levels to drop as what it is now, so again a mere thousand years wouldn't really affect anything either. The problem is that plants and trees need that oxygen to grow so if there's less oxygen I'm not sure the vegetation would be as luxuriant as it is in the movie. Nature would take back its right but yeah, if oxygen and light is too low(don't forget the huge active volcano right next to a beautiful jungle that blocks the sun), not to mention temperature that drops below zero at night and... nah, everything's dead in those conditions. Shyamalan never took care of a plant by himself, and if he lived in a colder climate he would know that you can't grow anything safely until May! Yeah, cold kills plants. I saw the movie and all but I just noticed that it would never work! The leaves would freeze as well as the sap, and the great, daily temperature variation would finish these trees and plants off. XD

I'm so glad you showed all of those quotes from Jaden Smith. I learned so much about running a successful civilization; Like, how history isn't important, only future planning is. Did you know that humans are born with all the knowledge they'll ever have, and they get dumber as time progresses; that, knowledge has nothing to do with experience but is slowly lost over time. Learning isn't defined as a "change in behavior based on experience." That's why babies are woke af.
Now, see, Mark, you expected Jaden to know who Aristotle was, but the wise young philosopher has already told us that we should not bother with the past. He most likely never heard of Aristotle because he doesn't believe in studying history, or being formally educated.
Luckily he has the luxury of not needing a formal education because he can live off of daddy's millions the rest of his life. Most people aren't in that position, and honestly why would anyone want to be?
*Jaden Smith* was simply HANDED everything he has and this is usually the cause of becoming a genuine, grade-A douchebag. When you don't have to actually work for anything and get everything in the world given to you then you have absolutely NOTHING to strive for in life. As such, a person doesn't have to be kind or even nice to others to get the things they want because they already have everything and they require nothing from you, which means they can always feed that arrogant part of their personality which we all have in some regard, only most of us have had to suppress it in order to function in society and get along with others so you don't get fired and lose everything you have. People's general behavior is directly related to this...
+Mike Hawk This is why rich people die first in a huge society transition. Like when Soviet went gone. The rich die first. They don't know how to cooperate or ask for help. Poor people survive longer because ... who cares what government there are, you still have to fight for your survival. You are used to it.
+Johan Moberg nah. Rich people are different from rich-born people. If they think they can be rich while being an incooporate idiot then you are so delusional. The biggest reason is that when a fight or something happen, people tend to use the situation to take what they want. Poor people hate rich people, that is a fact, so when the time come they will try to bring down those who have more than them, and then call it justice, or equal, or some shit like that. I myself is not rich, but I admire those who can get rich (by them self of course) because that is really hard and take a whole lot of determination
i agree bro. does create a shitty personality but he didnt ask to be born into a famous acting family. everything that kid has is all thanks to his parents hard work. isnt that the point of being a parent?, to give ur kids the things u couldnt have?
To be honest, I couldn't get past 10 minutes into this movie because it was so bad 5 years ago. The accent/weird way they were talking was annoying as hell among everything. I'm so glad the things that bothered me about this movie also bothered you. :3
i dunno if english is your first language but the way you've phrased your question makes it hilarious :D if you put "upload" instead of "have" it will make a little more sense
Yes, we were all stupid and said alot of dumb shit when we were young. But what makes this kid so annoying is that he actually think's he's being wise and clever by spreading these shallow and meaningless lines of bs. I mean really? We should not teach our kids about history and hope that this will somehow lead to a better future? How would you know what mistakes to avoid, if you know nothing about the mistakes of the past?? This is such an obvious paradox, that I honstely think he's just trying to come up with bad excuses for not wanting to study for his upcoming test in history class.
Plants and animals left without human activity for 1000 years, can for some reason freely evolve to kill a race that almost led to the destruction of all life including itself... So its not completely senseless that they would evolve untouched by humans in order to kill them should they return... With that said, no love for this movie.

"How Can Mirrors Be Real If Our Eyes Aren't Real"!?! lol that cracked me up! I feel he was drunk while writhing this crap I have an advice for you Jaden, go back to school kid.
+Pulse Gamin I can see at least five: Two exclamation marks (unnecessary), no capital letter after quote and exclamation mark (indicating the start of a new sentence), incorrect spelling of 'writing', no full stop at the end of a sentence, "an advice" should be "some advice" and lastly, there should be a comma before the endearment "kid". Furthermore, how do you know he's a Jaden fan? He didn't defend Jaden, he simply pointed out the irony of someone with a poor spelling ability advising someone else to go back to school.
Those aren't spelling mistakes and also, he wasn't writing an essay. Two exclamation marks are fine and who the fuck considers that as a grammar error?! Also, I seem to not see other errors you are pointing out. The only one I can notice is the missing comma before 'kid' but that is still not a spelling error as the guy criticized him for. I am assuming he is a Jaden fanboy for he seems rather butthurt towards that comment. I don't see the irony for I don't see any spelling errors which is already a ridiculous thing to bitch about in 2017 when the majority of people write informally over the internet.
I was thinking about Jaden's tweet "Most Trees Are Blue." and thought maybe he means trees (if they were sentient) are depressed because of deforestation.
Yea I recall hearing an interview for this where they said they wanted to turn it into a full comic, tv series, game series... Basically setup a milkable cash cow with no effort for Jaden to make some money over. I recall another theory that this is when he started getting weird, and this was Will's way of giving his kid a way of to support himself while kicking him the fuck out of home lmao
Smith said when he received box office numbers the following Monday, he was “devastated for about 24 minutes,” and shortly after, he received a call that his father had cancer. “That put it in perspective - viciously.” Wow... I feel so bad for Will Smith after reading that... I mean its bad enough his movie bombed and he did a number on his son's reputation but then right after he found out if bombed... he finds out his father has cancer too. WTF man?
Sometimes celebrities need a giant kick in the ass once in a while, unfortunately that's the only way for them to get back in reality. Focus too much on career, you miss out on what really matters in life....family
4 yrs too late ..but is that the only thing that concerns you about this movie.. Giant birds ..but Normal looking Baboons ?? .. did evolution just piss on the Baboons... "naah your good" .. Now as for you birdy .......
The slogan for this film is "Danger is Real, Fear is a choice" which is exactly why Will Smith doesn't take any precautions in the event of an emergency....I went to see this at the cinema I knew then it would be rated poorly...Boy how right I was... It's the LOWEST RATED film I've EVER SEEN at the Cinema!
Not that anything was scientific in that schlock, but fear is absolutely not a choice. It's a natural reaction based entirely on your body's chemistry, and a very vital evolutionary trait. You become fearful as a reaction to certain stimuli, pretty much the exact opposite of choice as your brain doesn't weigh things up and decide after long deliberation, it just reacts. To NOT fear is arguably a choice as you take the time to analyse a situation and come to the conclusion that fear is not warranted, but even then, you need to emotionally accept the logic you are applying as sound.
I saw this in the cinema to thinking "Well will smith is in it, he usually tries his best" ...I saw it for free since I had a movie pass and I was the ONLY PERSON in the theater, I saw it for FREE and I still felt like I was robbed.
Of course we need to stop teaching the youth about the past, I mean, so what if communism is tried again and again and we risk about 100 other Joseph Stalin's, all that we care about, is the future!!!! You're so smart Jaden Smith, I can't believe I've been such an idiot to think that most trees were not in fact blue, thank you for guiding me.
Tom Adams I'm a Trotskyist... I'm just saying if we don't know the past of communism and how many times it has declines, there's no way we could improve it, just destroy it again and again. By the way, even though technically Stalin is not a communist, you're wrong, very wrong, Stalin killed 60 million at his own hands. Hell, Lenin and Trotsky, 2 figures I admire immensely more than any president we've ever had, were no saints when it came to leadership.
Tom Adams Well Stalin's government system based on communism, unfortunately, had a lot to do with the death toll, the fact that Americans were capitalists had absolutely nothing to do with their bloodshed in the situation you describe. Now look, I have contempt for capitalism, I do, but right now it's the one form of government we've fucked up the least, it's the one we'll have to deal with for now. We're not ready for communism, I think one day, but not today.
You know, when I first saw the notice for this movie pop up on IMDB, I was willing to give it a chance. It looked like M. Night Shamalyn was going back to his roots of Sixth Sense, focusing on relationships and the effect on the supernatural by them. It could have been "The Road" in space, showing a bond whilst depicting a grim portrait of humanity's violent nature and how we should care for the... NOPE. Silly me, thinking Shamalyn could actually make something that deep.
I've read that Will Smith decided to play a character with no charm or personality to allow his son to shine more. Which really backfired because it made one of the things that could have been a silver lining of the movie, Smith's charisma, a non-factor.
I think it's obvious that Jaden was dropped on his head one or two or maybe even 20 times as a baby. Most trees are blue? Really? Cause I kind of thought they had this whole green thing going on.
Demogorgon47 Maybe he's colour blind? Still doesn't explain his other stupid quotes, though. Or, for that matter, doesn't explain why he would tweet it in the first place if he seriously thinks trees are blue. The kid makes no sense.
First, I'd like to say thank you for saving me from seeing this movie. I had been looking for the video through Red Box and my library. I was just curious and interested in it. So, I had just tripped on your review and found it valuable. I'm a Biologist and a science teacher. Sometimes, for extra credit, I let my students watch a sci-fi movie and write an essay on the real science or the "bad science" they observed. This would be a fun challenge for some of my 8th graders. I wonder how many would actually catch on to the misinformation in the film. Thanks for keeping Bad Movies posted.
Dude I have got to tell you... Ive been watching your videos for some weeks now... and they're great. Good job, I get quite a few chuckles out of them.
I actually understood the plot. The earth was evacuated 1000 years ago because "everything on this planed evolved to kill humans." 1000 years isn't enough to undo evolution.
Yeah I remember that whole new wave of speciation that occured lately when all the animals started giving birth to ultra dangerous animals capable of over throwing all of mankind. It was in all the papers. Guess we better evacuate earth cause the animals are revolting and what not and not even our mighty gee I dunno GUNS AND TANKS AND BOMBS COULD stop WILD FREAKING ANIMALS!......Seriously did Will Smith even try when he thought up this story or even have the most rudimentary understand of evolution before he made it? I mean I kind of don't understand why everything would evolve kill humans suddenly, I guess there was massive selection pressure on ripping apart homonids.
Jean-Luc Coelho Yeah thanks captain obvious. I'm saying....never mind. Just forget it. I was trying to agree with you and what not, I know that 1000 years is not enough time to......undo....evolution (if what you mean is for animals to evolve so differently that the previous adaptions are now completely even more adapted so it's so different to the adaptions of the time before) I was simply joining in on what you had to say and expanding on what you had to say but whatever. Apparently it went over your head. That's cool, that's fine. S'all good.
Demogorgon47 What I meant is that the movie could be a couple million years in the future. With humans having an absurdly large population, animals could very well have evolved to prey on them.
Jean-Luc Coelho Yeah but come one 1 million yeas of evolution would mean we'd be evolving too. Animals can't prey on us so easily because we live in such an environment with such high infrastructure and technological advancements such that no other animal besides us could ever be top dog. There's no evolutionary lineage that could make an animal capable of over powering human technology especially 1 million years of human evolution.
If you record the audio and visuals separately than it's easier to make a quick noise like clapping or punching so when you go to edit it later, you can sync them both up. At least that's why I think you do it and it's what I do.
Looking at the press from when this movie was coming out and seeing that Jaden is no longer an actor really, its obvious that Will was forcing his kid into doing this stuff. It makes me sad that Jaden got all this hate when his dad was making him do stuff like this to force a film career
I heard a commotion in the kitchen while watching this video. It was my sponge unsubscribing from your channel for comparing him to Will Smith's performance in After Urf. I wouldn't sweat it. He's not much of a taste-maker.
What's wrong is that it's a thirty minute short story extended to feature length without any added content. It has a plot better suited to an anthology than it's own movie. Imagine a grandfather telling this story and two others to his grandson in an ordinary child's bedroom. Later at the end of the film we find that these fantastic stories are actually true and the grandfather is Will Smith and his son is now one of the leaders of a group of space explorers. What seemed like fiction is factual history. And the room is part of a grand living space on a great starship travelling to another galaxy destined for their new home.
People were sitting up in the theater laughing at “After Earth.” It was ridiculous! Especially the scenery where Jaden’s character gets dropped into a giant bird’s nest to sit with a brood of baby birds. LOL!
Love your movie reviews bro :) It's funny that you quoted one of my favorite quotes @ 9:10 by Edmund Burke.. I had to think of that quote before you said it.
I don't blame you, but crazy techno babble coupled with cringy acting is kind of my thing. I just wish the film was less tedious but it has funny moments, like the scene where Jaden is asleep and dreaming of his dead sister, which just screams at him out of nowhere while looking like a zombie. Part that have zero purpose, except to scare the people foolish enough to watch this thing in its entirety and to test if they didn't fall asleep by then. xD
What's really awful, is *even from the movie* you get the impression that Jayden is screaming "no dad, I really don't want to do this, I just want you to love me!" What's the last line in the film? Something like "Dad... I wanna work with Mom now."
He plays this cold demanding strict father, which seems the opposite of how he's parented Jaden to begin with. He probably wrote this as a wish fulfilment for his stifled parenting urges
09:16 I guess Jaden Smith dropped out of school and got so intelligent that he figured out that if EVERYONE unfollowed him, there'd still be all the cool cats that dig philosophy and poetry left.
I don't understand how Will and Jada have such likable public personas but their kids don't. (I'm not going to say they're likable people because I've never met them but they seem nice.)
Because it's Will Smith's fault for writing and casting this movie. Shyamalan just directed it, and it was good actually. I liked this movie better than The Last Airbender
It doesn't mean it was better on his part. It just means that he had less responsibilities and the Smiths were to blame for most of this movie. Who knows what would have happened if he was the main producer? It could have been worse. I used to like M Night back in the day, but his movies have been just plain bad since Signs came out.

Basically the only problem anyone has with Jaden is jealousy. You summed it up yourself, "most kids only get a game or clothes, this kid gets cast in a MOVIE"
Lol, you think people are jealous of Jaden's stupid shit? No, people are revolted because Jaden's stupid shit gets broadcasted to millions because of his status. In a perfect world Jaden would have like 3 followers on twitter, and they'd be his grandparents or something...
He would say yes. But he is just trying to look professional. That is only necessary whe one is recording audio separately. There is no reson to do this with digital video! (Except pretension..)
for an advanced civilization, they couldn't figure out how to mask the pheromones that draw them in and and then make a trap that uses said pheromones to draw, trap, and exterminate these things.... i mean shit, we have that tech now, the second we figure out how they track us, we can easily fix that...
The reason for the clap is for sound sync, you have an additional mic on set to get full sound (usually as a backup measure if say, the audio on your camera goes out).

In fact, it's so good, i had to watch it a second time round just to laugh my ass off along side you explaining the extreme truths of both your analysis of the movie and it's completely ridiculous anomalies, hell bent on trying to convince us are actually possible and/or plausible... and Jayden's utter stupidity in the general teachings of life.
Bravo on a brilliant review, dude! Sharing this around to share the love of your absolutely on target honesty and humour.

Yeah, I noticed all the oxygen shit too. Mammals are fine, birds are fine, but humans need oxygen? And the tons of vegetation? Oh okay then. Lame. I also don't understand why he couldn't have taken his cordless oxygen mask from the ship with him.
And how has everything evolved to kill humans when humans weren't even around for 1000 years?!!!
XD
@@anirudhviswanathan3986 to be fair 1000 years wouldn't result in much evolutionary change, too short a period. Not sure how anybody would think that canaries or koala bears evolved to kill humans though.

No "sir", no. NO SIR, NO!

Oh man...The twitter quotes at the end...Nearly killed me.
I like it, but I think it's bad
~Jaden Smith, After earth
Now, see, Mark, you expected Jaden to know who Aristotle was, but the wise young philosopher has already told us that we should not bother with the past. He most likely never heard of Aristotle because he doesn't believe in studying history, or being formally educated.
Luckily he has the luxury of not needing a formal education because he can live off of daddy's millions the rest of his life. Most people aren't in that position, and honestly why would anyone want to be?
I like to pronounce “Aristotle” like “chipotle”. And of course, vise versa.
Being educated doesn’t mean being knowledgeable. It just means you decided to go down a rabbit hole.
I saw that movie. It infuriated me absolutely! Never in my life did I feel more betrayed by Hollywood!!!

+SinCity2100 I feel you should get back to school and learn how to spell.
+Chinyere Ugwu So one typo indicates that he doesn't know how to spell? Wow, Jaden fans are so pathetic and dumb.

The work poor Will must have had to put up with constantly correcting Jaden probably made the set look more like a family drama.
Smith's family IS drama.
"Keep my wife's name out yo f*ck*ng mouth!"
Smith said when he received box office numbers the following Monday, he was “devastated for about 24 minutes,” and shortly after, he received a call that his father had cancer. “That put it in perspective - viciously.”
Wow...

Radiation. Pollution. Or sumting.
You're asking questions that the Filmmakers probably didn't ask.

When this came out you know DJ Jazzy Jeff was in the theater cussing up a storm.

DENIED! SIT DOWN!
I actually understood the plot. The earth was evacuated 1000 years ago because "everything on this planed evolved to kill humans."
1000 years isn't enough to undo evolution.
Demogorgon47 the movie is in the future.
8:35 is a prime example of why this is now my favorite RUclips channel. I just wish I had found it years ago.
I heard a commotion in the kitchen while watching this video. It was my sponge unsubscribing from your channel for comparing him to Will Smith's performance in After Urf. I wouldn't sweat it. He's not much of a taste-maker.
What's wrong with After Earth ? One word, EVERYTHING.
You clap cuz you have to expel the demon that goes into you when you read Jaden's tweets. Also for editing videos as well lol.
He played at my club and this was relatively recently and you nailed it on the head. Key and peel super nailed it.
People were sitting up in the theater laughing at “After Earth.” It was ridiculous! Especially the scenery where Jaden’s character gets dropped into a giant bird’s nest to sit with a brood of baby birds. LOL!

I don't blame you, but crazy techno babble coupled with cringy acting is kind of my thing. I just wish the film was less tedious but it has funny moments, like the scene where Jaden is asleep and dreaming of his dead sister, which just screams at him out of nowhere while looking like a zombie.
