Not gonna lie, when the ape flipped the bird I laughed like a maniac. It was just so unexpected.
Ruined the film for me. Made me realise its just a man in the suit. Very disappointed.
I think this move was originally shot in 3-D, which is why you get all of those "coming at ya!" effects directly toward the camera.
Makes so much sense. Do you think it's unfair to judge this film without 3D glasses? Got to experience it how the director intended 😉

The woman runs directly into the ape's hand, because it was easier than make the hand follow and grab her.
Leonardo DiCaprio has one degree of separation from this movie (Joanna Kerns, Growing Pains). Just something to dwell on.

True, but for me the miniature cow and toy tank were the oh-boy moments. It has to be the worst miniature work ever! Kind of reminds be of old GI Joe ads.

@@christopherdieudonne The entire movie budget was $23,000.and filmed entirely in South Korea. That's in year 1976 dollars, but still with marketing and travel costs for the crew and American actors, she couldn't have gotten more than a few thousand dollars.
It's kinda like "The Christmas Light" which is in no way affiliated with "Toy Story"

I'm now picturing Mark sitting alone in his apartment for hours on end bored but unreasonably angry. He does this for our entertainment. If that isn't the height of selflessness I don't know what is.
I'm not sure about "unreasonably". Brandon Tenfold (also on RUclips) reckoned it was the worst film he'd ever reviewed, and he absolutely loathed it. There seems to be something about this film that just gets under people's skin! I'm almost tempted to watch it, to find out for myself...

This movie, I'll agree, is bad. However, same one I learned of this movie from, guy named Brandon Tenold, I also learned of another King Kong ripoff, that is so bad, it makes this look like a masterpiece of great cinema by comparison. A movie known as Queen Kong.
Queen Kong is infinitely worse LOL

Interesting thing about scale; the original *KING KONG* from 1933 actually intentionally changes the scale halfway through the movie.
During the first half, when he's on the island, Kong is about 70 feet tall. In the second half, once he's in New York, he's about 26 feet tall.
(Thus symbolizing him losing his power once he's in New York).
The movie was released in 3-D, that's why everything is coming at the screen. And Maggie Seaver was pretty hot.

Some mockbusters can be better than the original. I watched the War of the Worlds mockbuster, and found it better than the Tom Cruise vehicle which came out around the same time. It was closer to the book too.
That tiny tank at the end is the cutest thing i've seen in a long while, lol. As an aside, I wonder if the constant 'things flying directly into camera' was because maybe they initially were going to have the film be shot in 3D but the lack of budget meant they had to scrap that idea before filming wrapped ? I have no idea if that's the case, just trying tgo wrap my head around the constant 'into the camera' shots lol

I remember seeing a newspaper ad for that movie when I was a kid, it had a different movie promo poster though, I never got to see it, another one I remember is ‘The Onion that ate Cleveland’.

I only have heard of this movie because I also follow Brandon Tenold's channel. He talked about this film a few years ago.

Hey Mark, give these guys some credit. At 6:30, with the awful miniature model cow, they went to the trouble to make the cow's tail twitch when the A.P.E. walks over it. Now THAT'S some real professional craftsmanship, innit?

I do love that the poster has these itty-bitty people hanging from a helicopter and getting ready to jump on the APE while it is fighting a shark, a giant viper and sinking a ship simultaneously. What is that little guy thinking? "Oh yeah, this is gonna work!"

I mean the ape flipping off the camera would of restored my vigor in watching this movie. I got a good laugh out of it. But it does look exhausting. Gotta hand it to you Mark, I'm not sure how many of these weird movies you've sat through, but god bless you for doing it.
