There's just no way anyone involved in this "film" would've thought that scene was a good idea!! I refuse to believe ANYONE saw this and thought "Fucking nailed it!!!" this had to be a movie made to launder money or some other financial crime, because that's the only thing that makes sense. This is like some Uwe Boll nonsense...

@@secludedmisanthrope6388 no, people (directors, script writers, whoever greenlit this film for production) are just weird. someone thought that scene was necessary and added to the story or added to the audience's experience. you'd have to be in their mind at the time to find out. i say "at the time" because many directors etc., have gone "i don't know what i was thinking." and that's hilarious because life is like that sometimes, especially when you're creating something and working under pressure, the human mind can warp. i will say that the way this movie is completely over the top was the style at the time. When A Stranger Calls is a landmark film but the opening scene which inspired virtually all horror movies that came after it literally looks like a parody because of how hard the soundtrack and visuals hit the viewer over the head. i think it's because modern films are derivatives of When A Stranger Calls and i think the same can be said for The Car.

@@princesstamikaHaving grown up in the 80s, I can agree with that but still, there are limits on how HORRIBLE and STUPID a movie can be, unless the intent was to make a pointless and impossibly bad movie like Uwe Boll has done for decades or how Troma video made movies back then... When you see bad movies now, everyone wants to say, well the creator made it that way intentionally, to be funny or whatever and that is unacceptable. Garbage needs to be called out as garbage...

Having [barely]lived through the 70s, I can tell you that, yes; our cars were very hazardous. I mean, you had to be careful with how you closed the doors. If you closed them too hard, you ran the risk of causing your car to go into a barrel roll, and bursting into flames. And getting into a rear end collision was sure to cause you to be launched 30 feet into the air, invert you, and land you on the back of a semi trailer.
Of course, if you yelled, "HOLD ON!", you'd survive. Then you'd crawl out the windows, rub your head, and take your "These" pills for a few days until you weren't sore.

I adore this movie, mostly for The Car itself. The "evil wind" is an old school demonic trope, the hot winds of hell. And yes, I would pass on the sequel. It has very little to do with the original movie and is more like a scifi domestic abuse story mixed with Knight Rider and then a poorly built replica of The Car shows up for about 3 minutes at the end. It's a very syfy quality film.

Back in 1977 I was 8 years old and going to the movies with my best friend once a week, every week from the 1970s-1980s. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies.
He lived in a distant neighborhood and I had to take a public city bus to get to and from his place. Normally, most times we went to one of the movie theaters in or near his neighborhood. After seeing our movie in the theater, we'd retreat back to his apartment to watch even more movies on his living room tv that happened to be airing that afternoon and evening.
The Car was one of the few movies we didn't get to see in the theaters. We didn't see it until a couple years later in his living room when it debuted on tv. I think the year was either 1979 or 1980 when we were 10-11 years old.
After seeing the movie on his tv, I took my bus home. The bus let me off a block or so away from my place. As I walked up my street to get home, it was after dark and I was scared of all the cars parked alongside the sidewalk, especially the ones with their front tires turned towards me on the sidewalk. I warily eyed them, worried that one of them would jump up onto the sidewalk and give chase to me!
I finally reached my home and breathed a sigh of relief. Because as one will recall in the movie, there's a scene in which the car kills one of its victims by smashing through her single level house. But I lived in a 2 family apartment house and my apartment was upstairs on the second floor!

It the roof touched the ground in a roll over it would release a discharge of static electricity that would immediately cause the gas tank to ignite and explode. It's why vinyl roofs where so popular in the 70's.

There were some pretty well filmed scenes in the car, everyone seems to love the one where it comes crashing through the house killing his girlfriend, personally my favorite is where it makes itself almost crash, tumbling sideways over the cop cars, I mean it looks awesome, just absolutely brutal, not too mention the way they edited it was fantastic, that entire scene just happens sooo fast it kind of just blows you away the first time you see it.
