My parents are from T&T. I visited the place only once back in 2000 and I was so dreadfully disappointed to see virtually no evidence of the material benefits of the country's historical mineral wealth. I still have a strong image in my mind of a smartly dressed young man in a square in the centre of PoS with a rickety clothes rail selling cheap neck ties; it was his only form of income. I may visit one more time to see family.

But trinidad is still a beautiful place. One day we will get it right. The problem we have is a mentality problem. As Trinis we need to change our mentality first, then we will witness a change for the better. As for africa there is to much outside interference. Nothing in africa is what it seems. Ask the questions who arm these groups and why.

It’s a tough situation because paying the abductors only encourages them more. But at the same time securing the lives of the innocent people is of paramount importance. The Nigerian government seriously need to declare a state of emergency . And start using majority of government revenue into the military. It’s about time we secure this country so people can live without constant fear.

You are correct. President Kennedy said, and I think he was quoting someone from earlier in history, children are our country's greatest resource, or asset. I believe the same applies to children of other countries. The United States government is harming children here in various ways. Although these children in this country do not have the advantages of other countries, they are loved and taken care of by their families to the best of their abilities. Children in the United States are not invulnerable in school but they are not being victimized to this extent/extreme and en masse like these children are. How can they be helped?

Buhari is a friend and a blessing for Boko Haram-bandits. For 6years we have been fed only false stories, and a weak spined government and president.
The bandits and Bh have teamed up.
Our brave soldiers are fighting with little to no support, assistance or even ammunition, for years. Against fully armed, fully equipped bandits and terrorists?
If the government wanted, they could fix this problem in 6months. A combined task force of Nigerian special forces and foreign contractors had Boko haram hit hard and running, until Buhari came to power and ended all resistance, sent away our foreign soldier brothers, split and further weakeaned our Army.
Wake up FG. And stop filling your pockets. The country and its children need you. Boko haram and the bandits are shaming us.

So I tried to imagine how I would feel if I could not hear someone talking to me. Of course I would have a blank face! @@sandrajones2262 Do you mean how? Or what?
If you do mean what, I thought I already answered that. If you mean how, that's a little more complex. The antidote to tribalism is a unifying force that enables enlightenment and civilisation. But those things are delicate.
Look at the UK for example, it used to have both but has allowed the enlightenment to slip away, which brought in new tribalism which in turn is eating away at their civilisation.
Similar story for the USA but they were never really civilised to begin with so they're degressing much faster.
So installing these things in society is much harder done than said*, and keeping them there takes work. There needs to be a driving force inside the population to want unification, usually that's some kind of a popular figure head but each of these countries needs it's own driving force which will differ between them.
One thing they can all get behind though is security. One just has to be careful that security remains fair and even, while being effective.

@@sandrajones2262 I think, first of all, that a country's survival and progress depend on how united its population is - no matter how diverse their culture. However, unity cannot just be wished into being; it stands on two foundations: truth and justice. Without those two, there will never be unity.
Nigeria was not - never! - founded on truth and justice. Our country was founded, first by the British colonialist, and then by native oppressors, the military and politicians, on falsehood, deception, oppression, exploitation, injustice and murder.
In a country so culturally, religiously and ethnically diverse, an artificially constructed entity never demanded for by its inhabitants in the first place, there'll never be peace without true equality, where every section gets their fair share.
Even Iranians have never lived peacefully with the Saudis in spite of their shared religious roots. Yet they don't share the same territory. Imagine putting them together as one nation without their consent while making sure to leave out truth and justice? Death. Destruction. Desolation. Dissolution. Now Saudi and Iran together is even a sweet union compared to what hundreds of Nigeria's ethnic groups have been compelled to deal with.
      Bottom line: Truth and justice.

Defense and security are the first duties of a nation. When this fails, its nearly impossible to call said nation competent.
P.S- This is why having Nigeria as Africa's biggest economy is so frustrating to me. Like seriously, this is the best we Africans have to present to the world. Asia has China, The west has Europe and we have...this?
Greetings from an equally defunct nation Kenya. We can do better than this fellow black Africans.
