- Why are officials in Nigeria unable to protect schoolchildren from mass kidnappings?
Kidnappers in Nigeria are increasingly targeting schools and abducting hundreds of students for ransom.

When a government fails to catch the culprits, it means that the government itself is the culprit.

Nigeria, Venezuela & my country Trinidad & Tobago are prime examples of how not to govern oil/ gas rich nations.
Corrupt politicians, identity politics and a population unwilling to unite for true democracy, will always bring disaster to any nation 😔🙁
My parents are from T&T. I visited the place only once back in 2000 and I was so dreadfully disappointed to see virtually no evidence of the material benefits of the country's historical mineral wealth. I still have a strong image in my mind of a smartly dressed young man in a square in the centre of PoS with a rickety clothes rail selling cheap neck ties; it was his only form of income. I may visit one more time to see family.
I couldn't have worded it better. Oil can either be a huge blessing or curse.
But trinidad is still a beautiful place. One day we will get it right. The problem we have is a mentality problem. As Trinis we need to change our mentality first, then we will witness a change for the better. As for africa there is to much outside interference. Nothing in africa is what it seems. Ask the questions who arm these groups and why.
@ Nigel khan, There's no comparison between Nigeria and Venezuela. Your comment is very ill informed. Maduro is not corrupt not does the Venezuelan government practice "identify politics".
The problem is too many natural resources in Africa
From what I know the level of corruption in Nigeria is as high as height of Everest. Corrupt government won't ever fight Boko Haram till the end.
Imagine paying ransoms to the kidnappers every now and then instead of trying to capture them

It’s a tough situation because paying the abductors only encourages them more. But at the same time securing the lives of the innocent people is of paramount importance. The Nigerian government seriously need to declare a state of emergency . And start using majority of government revenue into the military. It’s about time we secure this country so people can live without constant fear.
The right approach, is to create a government with people at heart so that poverty is alleviated and people have legit jobs and work.
It is your children government don't care.
There is so much mess around these days i feel like i must go offline
That doesn't change anything!

Let's not. Let's talk about the primer you're commenting on instead, far more interesting.
Fine. Talk about it in another comment section or somewhere else. What about saving these children? Do you have anything to say about them?
@Akamai Rants What does that have to do with the children? With this problem?
I just love the way you speak Sandra. The quality of your content and it's professionalism is intriguing. Well-done.
As a Nigerian I can confirm that my country does not have president, Nigeria is currently on auto-pilot
I read very similar circumstances are happening in Poland.
Praying for the children.
Of all the negativity in the world today, harming children is the most evil of all.
Pray for the children 🕯
You are correct. President Kennedy said, and I think he was quoting someone from earlier in history, children are our country's greatest resource, or asset. I believe the same applies to children of other countries. The United States government is harming children here in various ways. Although these children in this country do not have the advantages of other countries, they are loved and taken care of by their families to the best of their abilities. Children in the United States are not invulnerable in school but they are not being victimized to this extent/extreme and en masse like these children are. How can they be helped?
A similar circumstance is NOT occurring in Poland. Don’t give this legitimacy, not similar in the least.
As a Nigerian...i also want to know why this has become a trend
Wdym?
its not a trend

If the government used to pay ransom to recover the captives, this never solve the problem at all. Government should take stern measure against the terrorists. Before that, a motivational step could be taken to bring back the captors in normal life. Thank you.
@Nonya Business But there must be someone with good intentions and decency.
@Akbar Ali You have a very valid point. Do you have any ideas to bring a solution?
The Government will continue to pay ransom as long as Buhari is in power. Buhari is a nepotic leader and his tribe are the ones kidnapping and killing. He is aware of what is going on In Nigeria. Have you ever wondered why he hasn't sought any help outside of Nigeria. When they pay ransome to these people, they gets there cuts. It a money making strategy at the moment for the people in power in Nigeria.

Why can't they use drones with infrared cameras to search the forest then deploy the army
it to easy for them and they won`t be able to cash out
The country is large and it is possible to search the forest, the state officials are collaborators with the terrorists.

They're kidnapped because it is something that Islam teaches!
Religion is holding our people back.
Nigeria needs to turn towards Christ, the Lord, the Savior. He will redeem your nation if your people let Him into your heart.
@@rollingknuckleball and here I was thinking Christianity was a monotheistic religion when their God has a son🤷🏾♂️ we know Jesus was a Jew who preached and practiced Judaism, orthodox Jews don't even believe that Jesus was the son of Yahweh and don't believe that holy trinity nonsense since Jesus died before fulfilling what the Messiah in the Jewish Torah was supposed to achieve like ending all suffering and bringing eternal world peace. Buhari is a friend and a blessing for Boko Haram-bandits. For 6years we have been fed only false stories, and a weak spined government and president.
The bandits and Bh have teamed up.
Our brave soldiers are fighting with little to no support, assistance or even ammunition, for years. Against fully armed, fully equipped bandits and terrorists?
If the government wanted, they could fix this problem in 6months. A combined task force of Nigerian special forces and foreign contractors had Boko haram hit hard and running, until Buhari came to power and ended all resistance, sent away our foreign soldier brothers, split and further weakeaned our Army.
Wake up FG. And stop filling your pockets. The country and its children need you. Boko haram and the bandits are shaming us.
Bring back the specialist contractors, instructors, bring back the task force, and start funding our brave soldiers as they deserve!

Nigeria has it's own problems and being close to the Sahel...doesn't help either
It's time it's stated correctly, not the whole of Nigeria but Northern Nigeria.
Where are they getting the arms from?
Very sad

Northern Nigeria is messed up,but then again so is the rest of the country
The big country should address this problem, as this will be the best option for managing the conflict between government and Boko Haram in Nigeria.
Ignoring this and the culprit is right before their eyes. The very people they hope will help.
Feeling empathy for deaf people helped me to counteract the prejudice I had. For example, I had the impression that the deaf were intellectually handicapped because when I spoke to them, they would look at me blankly. So I tried to imagine how I would feel if I could not hear someone talking to me. Of course I would have a blank face! Even if I had a hearing aid, my facial expression might seem to indicate, ‘I am struggling to understand,’ when really I would be struggling to hear.
Stop kidnapping students of Nigeria
This is disgusting.
They do it for their own greed !
Really sad and horrible complex situation, where the ones from the outside, that can help, do not do it because there is no economic and political gain and the ones doing it are the front of the ones that sponsor it.
So how would you bring about a solution?
It's not complex if only all sides settled for win-win policies. Then everyone wins. Failing, everyone loses.
This is simply a crisis 😢😭
💪
Sickening
Everything in Nigeria, even the government is too currupt to actually come up with a solution.. How can a corrupt government handle insecurity? A country filled with greedy individuals and politicians who only think about themselves alone and not the majority. The curruption, greed and tribalism is just too high to enforce change and progress. Nigeria is collapsing.
Who runs the schools the children are abducted from?
Because of money....
Huge money involved in Nigerian oil.
Hey... Good morning!
The World is falling apart 😭😢😥 Africa, S.America, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia etc etc all U.S & Russian playground.
thats the truth about islam
Tribalism and no unifying force. That's what is at the basis of the instability across many African countries, including Nigeria.
So what do you believe it should be fixed?
@@sandrajones2262 Do you mean how? Or what?
If you do mean what, I thought I already answered that. If you mean how, that's a little more complex. The antidote to tribalism is a unifying force that enables enlightenment and civilisation. But those things are delicate.
Look at the UK for example, it used to have both but has allowed the enlightenment to slip away, which brought in new tribalism which in turn is eating away at their civilisation.
Similar story for the USA but they were never really civilised to begin with so they're degressing much faster.
So installing these things in society is much harder done than said*, and keeping them there takes work. There needs to be a driving force inside the population to want unification, usually that's some kind of a popular figure head but each of these countries needs it's own driving force which will differ between them.
One thing they can all get behind though is security. One just has to be careful that security remains fair and even, while being effective.
@@sandrajones2262 I think, first of all, that a country's survival and progress depend on how united its population is - no matter how diverse their culture. However, unity cannot just be wished into being; it stands on two foundations: truth and justice. Without those two, there will never be unity.
Nigeria was not - never! - founded on truth and justice. Our country was founded, first by the British colonialist, and then by native oppressors, the military and politicians, on falsehood, deception, oppression, exploitation, injustice and murder.
In a country so culturally, religiously and ethnically diverse, an artificially constructed entity never demanded for by its inhabitants in the first place, there'll never be peace without true equality, where every section gets their fair share.
Even Iranians have never lived peacefully with the Saudis in spite of their shared religious roots. Yet they don't share the same territory. Imagine putting them together as one nation without their consent while making sure to leave out truth and justice? Death. Destruction. Desolation. Dissolution. Now Saudi and Iran together is even a sweet union compared to what hundreds of Nigeria's ethnic groups have been compelled to deal with.
Bottom line: Truth and justice.
