There's a lot of parallels between L and Light with Jesus and Judas.
L/Jesus gave Judas a chance to repent and come clean.
Light is a member of the task force led by L, just as Judas is a follower of Jesus.
The most blatant of all is L washing Lights feet.

I wonder if L purposely choose the rain to speak because the building microphones wouldn't be able to pick up what they were saying. In a way, this was L giving Light a chance to really say what he wanted to another human being for the first time in his life.
He also wanted to try and save his life , If Light had some paper sheet from the note somewhere hiding under his clothes , they would have been all wet and impossible to use.
I suspect him to give a massage to try and see inside in shoes or somewhere if there was some pieces of paper hidden.

I cant help but find it kinda funny that both L and Light know whats about to happen and i think they know that the other knows as well. Light just cant really say it. Seeing as L said that he was childish and hated losing it also really fits L to essentially say "I know I'm going to lose, but I've always known what you are. It's just that these idiots didn't believe me."
He also waits to address it until they are apart from everyone else with the guise of rain to hide what they said in any scenario. The only opportunity they had to talk real. One on one.
And light refused to give up his act kind of wish we could have seen them actually talk

There's also a bit of mind games here. Taking the question literally, there's no way Light absolutely never told a truth. (I mean, "what's your name?" "Light Yagami"). L pretty much says Light is full of Lies, and I could see a "normal" Light (or anyone) defending Lying in this situation instead of denying it.

Well no, L wasn't just figuring out for a fact that Light was Kira here, it'd be better fitted to say he was finally dropping the cat and mouse game and admitting defeat.
Guy doesn't like to lose, so it makes complete sense to tell his murderer before his own death that even though he knows the jig is up he was never fooled for even a second as to who was really pulling the strings and calling the shots.
A last laugh in a way, no more perfect a way for L to go.

Ls death was actually the saddest in the entire death note. Though I have to make a correction in this Video, L already knew light was Kira even before this scene but he just couldn't proof.
That was what made the rest of the anime not as exciting. Cos all Near and Mello had to do was proof that Light was Kira.

The only annoying thing is that Japan has death penalty and the task force was writen with that weird moral code against testing the note on a guy scheduled to die. L hinted that the case would be close, you don't need to be a genius to figure It out that the 13 day rule would only benefit Light and Misa. It's even worse because they realized that instantly once Near suggested that a rule was fake, 6 years later. Why couldn't they 6 years before when L said It?
Plus probably one of the most ridiculous amount of plot armour in all of Animanga.
I just wish the special force wasnt that fucking stupid. I'm sure they knew what L's plan was. Once L and Watari died they should have locked Light up, confiscate all his belongings and do the exact thing L was about to do. But instead they just I don't know forget that L was about to expose Light when he very conveniently died.

You really didn't need two weird looking genius kids to end it when literally any idiot off the street could put the evidence together and have Light in chains. There is absolutely nothing Light could have done if they detained him and retried the test L was going to perform.
After chewing through the information, L was so obsessed with Light being Kira, that he could not take it out of his mind. Light also made too many mistakes making it personal.
I mean the real confirmation was Light's sudden shift in personality. When his memories were wiped anytime L would suggest Light was Kira it would make Light get super offended and angry. But this time Light gives some vaugue political response. This basically proved to L that Light got his memories back and his death was imminent

That's not what happened. Years past between in the show and after light took over the investigation he got sloppy a few times, like with the reporter and the notes in the hotel room. The investigation team slowly started to suspect light as well, since the best detectives in the world (L, Mello and near) all were completely convinced that light is Kira. And by the end they had finally obtained all the evidence they needed with light having a psychotic episode and bragging about it on top of it. Only after all that were they completely convinced.

The Japanese two part live action movie, along with the follow up "L Saves The World", were actually pretty good.
This hit Light extra hard because he probably just calculated the best thing to say in that moment. There were seldom times where Light doesn’t think before speaking to L. The kindest way to say, “I know this is BS so please be honest with me. You’ve won anyway.”
And light being light he didnt care and kept up the facade
L knew light was Kira the moment he put those cameras up in Lights house and Light made that slick comment about the 1500 investigators

In the Japanese live-action series when L figures out he is dying he writes his own name in the death note and actually beats Light.

I literally cried so hard when he died. Ngl I was praying that L should be an angel or something so that he cant die 😂. But its a nightmare for me, my hatred for Light got increased by 10x after L's death. L was my fav character and he didn't deserve that.

I guess L just gave up because he didn't have any evidence and time was running out, he knew that Light would kill him anyday so he just made sure he collected enough points so that the next person who investigates can start from where he left. We all knew L would eventually figure out that Light was Kira because of how skilled he was. Ever since L pulled the trick the day of the broadcast and found out that he was in Japan. He couldn’t figure out how Light was doing it and knew there was a chance that whatever it was he was using had the chance of killing him. He was revealing the advantage, that Light had over him. Therefore, he knew that he may be doomed. It was an “Okay you got me” kind of moment.
L couldn't get the evidence and knew he had already been outplayed. He went in to his last gambit already knowing it wouldn't work and he had lost.

But his problem was with that “Fake” rule so he was going to test it and after that he would pretty much prove that light was kira
That scene was powerful for many reasons. L knew for a good chunk of the show that Light was kira, but PROVING it was the struggle. This scene was basically him admitting defeat to Light and saying he'd won, but also letting it out that L KNEW it was Light, but couldnt do anything about it.
When L saw Light pick the note up, his expression gives it all up.
Also, when Misa meets Remu again, and gets told light is Kira, she begins to obey him, and L also makes weird expressions when it happens
It is funny that light is like "I won i am better than you L" all with the help of misa and 2 shinigami the 2nd of which sacraficed herself to save misa by killing L meaning light didnt really beat L a shinigami did.
I always consider that L didn't think of dying as a loss. His death assisted Near and Mellow in catching Kira. That was always his goal, no matter the cost, even at the expense of his own life.

That's something that occurred to me when I came back to the series recently. L was essentially playing the game without knowing any of the rules. He was at a major disadvantage and still nearly won. I can see now that L was by far the superior mind, just not by enough.
Light has every advantage at the start. He was an anonymous nobody in a population of billions, a guy with a secret magic notebook that nobody knew about which could remotely kill targets anywhere in the world with zero physical evidence. They didn't even know what country he lived in. And yet L just kept closing in on him the whole time.

I don't think its necessarily "wrong" to side with Light. Plenty of people think Light was right and Light did indeed have a positive impact on the planet, there is no mistaking that. But at the same time, the dude was crazy and his personality really made him horrible. I mean, if he truly only cared about this ideal world that he envisioned and wanted to make the world a better place, he never would have fought L in the first place but he did because he cares more about winning than making the world a better place. So he had good intentions but his personality and crazy nature made him unlikable.
L's instuition is unbelievable to the point even if Light just breathes he already knows Light is Kira
L was like a crewmate that always knew who the imposter was, but just couldn’t find enough evidence to prove it..

L in thus scene is emotional in their wording. Light on the other hand even though talking in the rain still answers methodically which would profile how kira has a god complex. Of course L cannot based on these emotion of words in a court without evidence.

Unpopular opinion: L knew Light was kira very early on after their meeting. He just couldn't prove it to the police who wanted non-magic based evidence (aka not having to do with supernatural)

Feels like a good place to put my opinion on this show: L won, totally. To explain, I'll cover each character's goals. L believes thet he is justice. That murderers most be caught and eliminated, regardless of the means needed. Remember, he illegally detained Misa with no more evidence than his initial arrest. And in Japan, if you arrest someone and can't get any more evidence after a certain period, they have to let you go. L ignored that. L doesn't care about the means as long as he wins. In the battle against Kira, L's win condition is PROVING Light is Kira. Not just getting him arrested. L wants proof because it's not fair if he can't. Sure, most of the world would believe him if he said it was Light due to his reputation, but that's not enough. Light's goal is to avoid detection. To rule the world as Kira until he dies of natural causes. He denies the eyes for this very reason, saying he wants to live a long life. So how did L win? Because his win condition doesn't require him to be alive. L knew Whammy's House existed, so why would he name Light his successor if he was aware of a whole orphanage of L successors in the wings? The answer is that, in naming Light the next L, he forced Light into a position where Light would either need to refuse and look very suspicious, as the Light others see would absolutely want Kira dead for killing L, or accept and join the investigation. Since Light did accept, this means he's forced to interact with L's TRUE successor, and becomes suspect #1 despite all the evidence being erased. Light is forced to deal with a new opponent who doesn't play like L does. Two, actually. And since Light idolized his rivalry with L, he totally underestimates Near and Mello, and they end up bringing about his downfall by proving Light is Kira. L surviving was not necessary. Think of it like sacrificing the queen in chess. L, the queen, is the strongest piece on the board. But played smartly enough, you can make that loss into a trap that screws the opponent.

Iike if you just think a bit about his plan, you will realise how much plot armour it requires yet L still managed to deduce the plan.
