So where's this "hella slow" really coming from?
My dad bought one of these in 2013 when it was first badged as a Scion. It was truly the first car I fell in love with especially with the Enkei GW8 rims on it. Unfortunately 4 years later there was a transmission issue (it was a manual 6 speed) that would have cost him $3500 to replace. He ended up trading it in for a 2017 Toyota iM at the same dealership he bought the FR-S. Wonderful car hope to own one myself some day
Just a note about the stereo, for owners who don't know...the head unit is set to the wrong type from the factory (TC, if I remember correctly). This causes a lot of rattle in the door at low volume. Switch it to FR-S (How To is in the manual) and it'll clear up the sound to a more acceptable standard. They may have fixed this now but it's a good idea to make sure.
I bought my FRS in January and have just rolled over 20,000 miles. It is a wonderful car. Oh that's awesome! Yeah they're really nice there. Thanks for telling them you saw it on this channel! That's cool that you were able to drive it and try it out for yourself.
It depends on so many things. Driving record, insurance company, area, gender, and age are a few of the variables. Your camry can be a wide range of prices for insurance too depending on how old it is and stuff, but it's going to be more expensive for sure. The BRZ is more than my Legacy was, but not so much more expensive that it was unreasonable. Insurance companies realize it's only 200hp.
Not sure yet. By the time my warranty is up I might have the updated version of this car, or a 2015 Mustang or maybe upgrading to something more high end like a Jaguar F-Type or Nissan GT-R...
@@kevvokash3254 In my eyes the brz is a sports car, the civic si isn't. The brz is RWD and has great handling capabilities, which will make you an experienced driver. The only advantage the civic si might have over the brz is the power. That is, if you can live with the brz's lumpy engine (or potentially modify it), since it responds very well to boost, the brz is an awesome entry level sports car. The Si in my eyes is just a quicker civic, but it doesn't handle or behave anything like a brz.
I agree but let's look at the bigger picture. Subaru could have just put the WRX engine into the BR/FRS but they did not. :( Imagine that would probably increase more market if they did that I guess.
Belle Fulton It's a lot harder, stressful on an engine, and more expensive to give a car more power, especially if it has just 200 to start, on the other hand, taking a powerful car and making it handle well is quite easy.
Went out to Harrison Auto today and test drove that exact car. Told them you were the one who made me aware they had it. Thanks for the work you do regarding your channel, subaruwrxfan! I'm not buying yet but i wanted to see how close it was to the BRZ and it's LITERALLY the same car outside of a few cosmetic things. They were more than accommodating even though i told them i wasn't buying yet. Will definitely be coming back to see if they have a Fr-s when the time comes to buy.
Never been pulled over while filming thankfully. The dealership I work with is very nice. They know I don't beat on the cars. I was just able to drive this one a little harder because I know the car well since I own a BRZ. I've considered using my name, but I kind of like the Subaruwrxfan nickname now, lol.
Because even the cheapest used Caymans are 28k which is 4k more than this car. Putting that 4k difference into this car could make it really impressive. Plus it's a brand new car, not a 6 year old Porsche with a bunch of miles on it and super high maintenance costs.
Love seeing all the comments about how this car doesn't have enough power. This car was basically designed as an affordable platform for tuning/mods. You can get insane amounts of power out of these with just a few mods and still spend less than you would on a car that comes with high power from the factory
As much as I didn't care for the BRZ/FRS, I have to respect any car that gives people the joy of a quick sporty car and the fuel economy when they just want to save money. :/ one day I'll test drive one to really understand. Nice review!
+pontiacGXPfan I'd rather it be a toyota, when I hear scion I think eww. When I hear Toyota, I think supra. Theres a reason people take of the scion badges and put a Toyota emblem.
The 2013 limited edition FRS's around me are being sold used for around average 15 grand. I'm very tempted. The manual in this car just looks incredibly fun.
I was at a car show and this guy tried to sell me a Subaru BRZ..I've always wanted this car but the Subaru version is way better! The alcantara just felt so good in that car and the seats just hugged me..I felt only love when I sat in that car. Plan on buying one once I graduate. But for now..I'm stuck with my Scion tC..I love it but the FR-S/BRZ will be my first manual car and my next car for sure
I agree! I mean the official Toyota Advert has a guy drifting in the desert hahahaha How much more do they have to highlight that the car is made for corners, None the less, I love my 86
Theres a guy in my town with an authentic gt86, hes even won a couple shows with it and ive seen it first hand its legit. his is all white, dropped, white rims, tinted tail lights, exhaust and basically the works. its honestly a beautiful car with the set up hes got.
I drove one of these the other day and I have to say that I loved it. That being said I would only own it as a second vehicle. The sears aren't comfortable, the back seat might as well not exist, the suspension is extremely stiff, and the trunk space is way too small. As a dedicated sports car, it's fantastic. But it's not what I consider everyday livable.
@sfvirgo 200hp is engine hp which is measured at the flywheel, the 150-170hp is measured at the wheels which is what the dyno measures. there's hp loss due to the drivetrain.
I like the car, I do also feel that it was made a little too slow out of the factory. I think they should have tried a 6 cylinder as a 2nd option. But you can't judge it based on just that. As the car gets older, people will mod and swap the hell out of them and get some respect back for the car. I see it as a modern day 240sx, which were awesome cars.
I'm 6 ft and own an FRS. You should be fine in the front seat in terms of leg room. The interior is a little cramped. The back seat is almost unusable if you are 6 ft. However, on daily drives with just you in the front seat, it's been fine.
Stock turbo for the normal price would've been probably the most perfect affordable sports car imo! Terrible flaw in it has to be the lack of power. Should have at least 220 like an s2000 or rx8
I just bought a FRS and I used to have a second gen tC. I wish they would have put the stereo of the tC into the FRS, those door speakers need like an 8" speaker, and high and mid tweeters like the tC does. That's on thing I don't like about the FRS is the stereo but it can be upgraded easily.
I think ultimately the subaru headlights with the scion front bumper and the scion fender inserts is the best, if I had the car I would get the scion and swap the headlights, I liked the toyota badge change too, looks better.
Mine is a 2013 86 GTS and my console and stereo are like the BRZ, with button start, touch screen, and modern a/c controls. I'm actually surprised by this video. I thought these features were standard. I just learned something new. But I can't say that I've experienced the kind of fuel economy he's stating.
i test drove one. its great , i loved it . awesome car but it lacked power so much . i was looking for something that was going to be a fast and sporty car . its sporty and great looking but it should be at least a 300hp car to match other Japanese sports cars .
As a former 370z owner looking to buy an frs. I can claim that my car never saw anything over 22 mpg. That could be due to how I drive but still wasn’t amazing
Also you can pick one of these up for 21k if you can find the 2013 with 8k miles pretty good value for money and it should still have a 6 or 7 year warranty
People talk a lot of shit about this car, but it is one of the best looking cars of the last decade. The fact that it's not all that powerful doesn't discredit it. That just makes it a perfect candidate for a project car. That's what turbos are for!
I test drove an FR-S today and was thoroughly impressed with the handling, not to mention the exterior looks. However, when comparing it to the ecoboost Mustang I also drove, it doesn't match up very favorably. The mustang has way more power (albeit in a much heavier frame), comparable handling, way more cool features & tech, and a vastly superior interior. After haggling on the price of the Stang, it would probably be about the same cost as a comparably equipped FR-S, which makes it a no-brainer. I like this car, but it can't compete at this price point. And really, given how little tech and amenatities this car has, there's no reason it shouldn't be cheaper. Oh well, given the two new hideous rebadged slowmobiles Scion is trotting out, it looks like the Scion brand is near death anyway.
Don't go from something more powerful to this car, I went from a jetta to the frs and I'm happy with everything, I actually believe it's powerful enough.
I'm good with it Because what am I gonna do over 75 mph without getting a ticket? If it's got some good acceleration and a smooth motor I'm good with it. 👌🏾
this guy is great 👍. im only 2 years in with my first car but i. already looking for something a little more fun and sporty. i drive a 06 sonata. no hate to my car though i really like it. but id love to eventually get car to work on etc.
200hp in this car does not feel slow. I must disagree. The turbo upgrades, supercharger upgrades, and even basic ecu tunes, prove just how slow it was before the changes. The stock numbers just aren't enough.
The Scion FRS Is A Japanese Prototype Car Based Of Chasis Version Of Toyota 86 And Subaru BRZ Produced From 2013 Until Disolution Of Scion Brand In 2016
Hey I'm planning on getting the Fr-S around next summer. Would you mind telling me what you are paying for insurance on the BRZ? Is it going to be a big difference for me from the Camry i drive now? Thanks and keep up all of the good videos.
I was going to buy one so I test drove it. That's WHY I'm saying it. No disrespect I'm just slightly vexed with scion for shaping an econo penalty box like a sports car and charging $30K for it (after taxes and financing) I wanted to love it and some aspects of it are great, but 3K+ RPM @ 65mph droning on as the road noise howls in your ear....yeah, no thanks. I know it's for the "twisties" but you have to get there somehow, and you have to use it on a daily basis. Did you drive one?
Depends on age, hp of the car, driving history and records and stuff, like accidents, how many years you've been driving, tickets, but with a 2 door rwd sports coupe, expect the insurance rate to increase, at minimum by $50-$100, not completely unreasonable but a noticeable difference, that can be offset by the amount of gas you save lol,
Doesn't want to change because it will void the warranty, how is build quality? Your exhaust sounds good compared to stock heard one the other day and it was a little too quiet.
on your innovate sc FRS video you put in the description that it had 250 HP but is that to the wheels or base? in other words the stock has 200 but 155 to the wheels, you put 250, is it 250 to the wheels? thank you
He keeps talking about the car like its a bit lower than the brz but the only thing is he wasn't reviewing the 10 series. There is definitely a difference between the stock and 10 series. The 10 series is more comparable to the limited. Everyone who keep saying its a GT 86 or Toyota 86. No, he says scion because they swapped the badges and emblems to the Toyota. That specific car originally is a Scion FRS.

Would this be a nice first car? Just looking around the market
I’ve been thinking about his car but then the civic si but not sure
This*
@@AntonioMartinez-kg3zm you can’t be serious, civic si is uncomparable to this...
@@gky3019 which would U consider better?
@@kevvokash3254 In my eyes the brz is a sports car, the civic si isn't. The brz is RWD and has great handling capabilities, which will make you an experienced driver. The only advantage the civic si might have over the brz is the power. That is, if you can live with the brz's lumpy engine (or potentially modify it), since it responds very well to boost, the brz is an awesome entry level sports car. The Si in my eyes is just a quicker civic, but it doesn't handle or behave anything like a brz.
200 horsepower being not enough is not the issue when buying a car- you can always give it more power.
Belle Fulton plus u can upgrade lol turbos are like 300 bucks on ebay
ramsey144 LOL yeah sure, you obviously haven't ever installed a full turbo setup.
mkelebay its cheaper than kit i never done it before but i know some of it still learning
No problem! I think I remember you being one of the people that requested this car!
I predict these will be more appreciated in years to come
ur right lol i want one
One of my favorite scion🔥🔥🔥
Never been pulled over while filming thankfully. The dealership I work with is very nice. They know I don't beat on the cars. I was just able to drive this one a little harder because I know the car well since I own a BRZ. I've considered using my name, but I kind of like the Subaruwrxfan nickname now, lol.
I have an evo 9 gsr and a 2015 FRS. I always learn more in the FRS than in the evo, it’s truly a car enthusiast car
R.I.P Scion. Now this car is gonna be stuck living as a Toyota
Now it's gonna be totally salesproof because the people this is targeting will see the Toyota emblem and think "ewwww"
+pontiacGXPfan I'd rather it be a toyota, when I hear scion I think eww. When I hear Toyota, I think supra. Theres a reason people take of the scion badges and put a Toyota emblem.
pontiacGXPfan what are you talking about, everyone knows toyotas are one of the best car ever made.
Lmao which is better than living as a fucking brand no one has even thought about since 2003.
scion is toyota lol
I have the chirp and I never bothered to get it fixed. It doesn't really bother me anymore and it doesn't happen all the time.
They come in automatic.
The 2013 limited edition FRS's around me are being sold used for around average 15 grand.
I'm very tempted.
The manual in this car just looks incredibly fun.
Justin Waters I'm getting one in about a week. Was considering a 370z, but this seemed a bit more alluring price wise.
Just picked up mine today after months and months of research
I enjoy your reviews man!. Your good reviewer. Entertaining but still informative and ur funny! I'll stay tuned
I love this kids face when he accelerates. That smile, especially on his review of the RX8, shows how much fun driving can be.
I was at a car show and this guy tried to sell me a Subaru BRZ..I've always wanted this car but the Subaru version is way better! The alcantara just felt so good in that car and the seats just hugged me..I felt only love when I sat in that car. Plan on buying one once I graduate. But for now..I'm stuck with my Scion tC..I love it but the FR-S/BRZ will be my first manual car and my next car for sure
all i hear is "otherwise"
Otherwise it would be a video, otherwise it would
+Andrew Tan All I hear is "Pretty nice place to spend time"
Maaz Sharief
otherwise
All I read is virgin.
this car is created for cornerings and it is not created on straight roads if you want a fast car get something else.
I agree! I mean the official Toyota Advert has a guy drifting in the desert hahahaha How much more do they have to highlight that the car is made for corners, None the less, I love my 86
Build quality seems good so far.
Theres a guy in my town with an authentic gt86, hes even won a couple shows with it and ive seen it first hand its legit. his is all white, dropped, white rims, tinted tail lights, exhaust and basically the works. its honestly a beautiful car with the set up hes got.
My dream car
Been 6 years, did u got it bro
@@kineki8870 thad be cool haha
I’m looking at one tommorow rebuilt title for 9300$ and it’s a 2015 with 45,000 miles
146 hp at the wheel!!!
Great video!
It's been a little over 2 weeks since I got my BRZ (first ever manual as well) and it is a blast to drive.
BarelyLegal23 Fym?😂 They already mode the hell out of them
I think ever since the LFA came out they have trickled down that styling and sportiness into a lot of their models.
I was on the fence about this car, not any more. This video helped me a lot.
I'm 6 ft and own an FRS. You should be fine in the front seat in terms of leg room. The interior is a little cramped. The back seat is almost unusable if you are 6 ft. However, on daily drives with just you in the front seat, it's been fine.
this is going to be my first car!
Did you ever get it?
Juan Molina did you get one bruh?
Stock turbo for the normal price would've been probably the most perfect affordable sports car imo! Terrible flaw in it has to be the lack of power. Should have at least 220 like an s2000 or rx8
An S2000 has 240 hp
I sat in a BRZ at an auto show earlier this year and had plenty of headroom and I'm 6'3". It had more headroom than my G35.
In the second half of the review and I answer that exact question.
Suspension tuning is also different.
Btw my JDM 86 does feature DRL in LED and HID headlamps.
the interior of that car takes it back to the 90s.
whenever he launches it he be looking at the rearview mirror hahahahahaah, he dont want no ticket
Thanks for letting us know about the mpg. Lot of reviews around and not alot of people talking about the "real" mpg rating.
I'm good with it
Because what am I gonna do over 75 mph without getting a ticket? If it's got some good acceleration and a smooth motor I'm good with it. 👌🏾
The start of turning onto these backroads.
Test drove an FR-S a couple weeks ago, fun little car.
this guy is great 👍. im only 2 years in with my first car but i. already looking for something a little more fun and sporty. i drive a 06 sonata. no hate to my car though i really like it. but id love to eventually get car to work on etc.
No worries!
Yeah I did. He just painted or covered them in white vinyl. That's actually not legal here, lol.
200hp in this car does not feel slow. I must disagree. The turbo upgrades, supercharger upgrades, and even basic ecu tunes, prove just how slow it was before the changes. The stock numbers just aren't enough.
Just to give it a JDM or Euro look since the versions in other countries have Toyota badges.
The induction noise difference is due to your car having a louder exhaust, most likely. Good review. Honest, no put downs.
Yeah I'm just looking at what kind of jump ill be looking at, if it isn't unreasonable then I'm not worried about it.
The Scion FRS Is A Japanese Prototype Car Based Of Chasis Version Of Toyota 86 And Subaru BRZ Produced From 2013 Until Disolution Of Scion Brand In 2016
Oh and I think you forgot to mention that the vehicle had some sort of clear sidemarker lenses or vinyl
Again: my old car
Tails are cleared with red - not vinyl
Lower rear valance is also painted white but is plasti dipped when traded in
Hey I'm planning on getting the Fr-S around next summer. Would you mind telling me what you are paying for insurance on the BRZ? Is it going to be a big difference for me from the Camry i drive now? Thanks and keep up all of the good videos.
I just totaled mine :/ well miss it for sure but i think im gonna switch to an Accord!
Did you just say 'let's turn on this backroad and see how it does'?
I might get this car, good beginner car
I was going to buy one so I test drove it. That's WHY I'm saying it. No disrespect I'm just slightly vexed with scion for shaping an econo penalty box like a sports car and charging $30K for it (after taxes and financing)
I wanted to love it and some aspects of it are great, but 3K+ RPM @ 65mph droning on as the road noise howls in your ear....yeah, no thanks. I know it's for the "twisties" but you have to get there somehow, and you have to use it on a daily basis. Did you drive one?
They changed the Badges on the back and front. It's still a Scion FRS. 2:30 look at the Steering Wheel.
Your exhaust sounds good compared to stock heard one the other day and it was a little too quiet.
on your innovate sc FRS video you put in the description that it had 250 HP but is that to the wheels or base? in other words the stock has 200 but 155 to the wheels, you put 250, is it 250 to the wheels? thank you
The interior is one of the main reason I like the BRZ more.
This car seems like the budget sports car perfect for first time manual drivers
Looking to get this to start learning manual
y does it have the toyota logo in front but the logo on the wheel is scion
Luca musso it's fake yo.
I'm 5'10 would I fit perfectly ?
I’m the same height and I test drove a BRZ and yeah you’ll fit just fine
I would prefer if the original owner had gone aftermarket LED some of the kits look absolutely sick almost like the original FT86 concept car.
