I have 162k miles on my 2013 six speed manual. I drive from south central KY to Louisville to work every day. Over half of it is on well maintained twisties. There are really no cops out here but you have to watch out for deer. The result is that I did my first brake job at 142k miles and there was still pad left. And I've been through 8 sets of tires. It's like racing to work every day. With the factory tires I did a lot of drifting, but most of my tires were Michelin PSS's so it was pretty much on rails. The G forces actually make me nauseous sometimes. It is the best bang for the buck sports car on the market, IMO.
That's awesome! Unfortunately our commute to work is 6 miles on one straight section of highway. But we take it out on the weekend for more spirited driving.
@@justinbuice I'm 65 and really use this only for commuting and occasionally driving to church. I'm a bass player so I needed something that was fun and would also fit a bass and small amp. I love convertibles, but that is what nixed the Miata. Also, I drove most of my life in the Seattle area, where I was stopped by cops an average of 3 times a year. I would never even have considered this car in an urban or suburban environment. Truth be told, it's like this car was custom made for me, but I don't see it as very practical for most people unless they can afford another car primarily just for fun. I'm planning on selling it because, and this may crack you up, I'm just bored with driving like a maniac all the time. And my wife notices it when I drive the other cars. I no longer play well with other cars. It's not intentional. It's just become my MO. Driving as fast as I want on twistiest with almost no other traffic, no fear of cops and in a car that handles like it is on rails sort of changes your driving style. Seriously. When we do our drives to Chicago to see the grandkids I have to consciously dial it back. and when I forget, people get thrown around. It's something I never expected. Meanwhile, my 2006 Scion xB has 220k miles on it . I hit a deer with it a couple years ago and pocketed the insurance money, and I'm just trying to drive it into the ground, but it simply won't die! You can't embarrass me. :) BTW, it is noticeable that other drivers treat me differently when I'm in the Box vs the FR-S. Kinda funny.
Ronny Bonilla do you have an auto? I know for the manuals, the 17+ has a TBW governor that kinda hides a hard speed limiter. Won’t get over 130. It was data-logged and posted on FT86club. My 2013 was a lot faster, so I assume it didn’t have it.
I haven’t actually seen how far it would go it’s just one day I did a pull and I remember seeing 125 when I let off but I have the manual also the car has been tune
The seat space is fine for me lol...2 out of 3 of my closest family members are 5feet so they fit on front/back passenger spots comfortably, that leaves the back seat behind the driver for my dog :)
Oh no, a moveable cup holder, not to mention the one in each of the doors. And, omg, I have to trip the trunk release or press the key fob. After owning one of these for 5 years, I have never looked at the left speedometer, using the digital display in the center of the gauge cluster.
I love the FR-S/86 this is the only car I think I have truly loved. Even at first sight, this was the car that made me love cars. And to this day, the GR 86 is my favorite car out there. Sure, there are faster, cooler, better sounding cars out there, but this is the one I love. Also, I have spent 10 years looking at EVERY single detail of this car, and I never knew about those Subaru logos on the metal panels you showed at the end!
I have an 860 that I bought used an it came with the arm rest orange stitched. But it’s faded bad unlike the rest of the stitch in the car so idk if the previous owner put a sharpie to it or bad quality lol
Excellent video Justin! I love seeing the FR-S making an appearance in the videos, but it would be great to see it more often too! (if you can win the fight for the keys that is lol)
Hi from the UK my GT86 has a rear as you say Trunk Latch where you have a blank on the rear Hatch but then it's Keyless entry and it doesn't have TPS so no hassle there.
Fixing your car as it breaks is going to make it “unreliable” so can you make a video about the basic maintenance you should on all cars or on a BMW ⁉️
I have a 335i Coupe that has kinda the same issues with the back seat not having much space for people to sit back there. After watching this video I just found some new ways I can shove people into the car now! thanks for the tips. Now to find my first victim..umm, I mean passenger.
I didn't realize those were the reverse lights down there.. for my 97 Crown Victoria the reverse lights are hard for most people to spot at all because they are hidden in the chrome strip by design. My experience with cars is kind of bipolar.. I went from third gen Camaros and firebirds to a '70s Cadillac and two Crown Victoria's. now that I'm used to having overhead cam v8 power and a plush ride on a leather bench seat.. I'm not sure how much I really want to go back to a little lightweight low riding thing but I know they are fun in the twisties. I have never had to pay car payments but today's gas prices have me paying plenty right now
I got my frs second hand and it never came with cupholders, need to get one now and maybe with the armrest. I usually just rest my arm with my elbow on the side of the center console and the rest on the e brake, ofc with my hand not wrapped around the e brake.
I rarely use my Trunk, so that's not a big deal for me. I got a 2016 Scion TC that has no Trunk release button on the key fod or inside the car. You have to unlock both doors for the Rear Hatch to open. The FR-S is my next car.
They do 4 seat on a sport car to make it cheap for insurance and other weird things. I guess 2 seat sports car insurance is more priced than 4 seat car. I heard Salomondrin talk about this on one of his video.
On my fiesta st you have to do a cycle of car on and off 5 times and hitting the brake and some other weird things to re learn the tires also when I fill my tires up when the light comes on it goes away after a few miles
Its a hard question because they are so different. My preference is the FR-S because it’s more fun to drive and gets better MPG. For longer trips or any time I need to carry groceries or cargo, Id take the BMW because it’s comfortable and has more space inside
Justin Buice some stories are worse than others. A few people have mentioned buying the car new and driving about 20 miles and the engine fails, while others have thrown rods and put nice little windows in their blocks. There was also a transmission issue with the manual clutches failing with just normal driving :(

Victor Giannella it hides your license plate from red light cameras. They’re actually illegal here in New York.
Isnt the trunk latch just as on our E90? Spot on everything said.
Rear seats were made by toyota, scion, subaru only to lower insurance for owners literally only reason i hate people complaining about it

I say no latch probably because of all the tC latches falling off
One less recall
My xB latch used to fall off all the time too

newer cars do have a button to open the trunk, short 5' 2" adults and children can fit
