So not only do the Devs think about gameplay, replayability, sound, story, lore but they also think about speedrunners........ Utter dedication that shows 👍 10/10 played and completed it myself.
Finji's titles are often made this way, even Chicory: A Colorful Tale's devs went into specifics on Twitter about how many frames will it take for your character to do certain actions, or options to skip through hundreds of dialogues in just seconds, despite the game being just a story-focused instead of competitive one.
At 9:17 Andrew asks "why the quit to title?" It looks like quit to title reverts runner's health bar max to full. It had been drained to zero by the miasma.
@@Stdvwr bro, if he died he would have reset and spawned back to checkpoint, so it would be entirely pointless. He menu jumped to reset and spawn in the same room.
Andrew Shouldice is really just an amazing and underrated developer. He made the game fun to play as it-is, and also fun for speedrunners, and also fun for those playing casual but re-playing and utilizing ways to get past beginnings (like finding that sword there). This game is sooo much more than just what you see.
We need more game devs like this, that understand and appreciate the multitude of different ways people want to play games. Great job guys, and great job to the speedrunner
Honestly this game is an absolute gem, I've played all the way till the end and unlocked the secrets and have been hooked the entire time. From the depth of the story and creative methods of introducing game mechanics to the huge extent secrets are hidden, this game is a masterpiece.
It is so funny to me when the runner is on the elevator and Andrew says, "This is where we read donations". Such a hilariously funny reference to something that makes sense in the speedrun community and kind of nowhere else.
That was lovely. The passion these two express for the game, the fans, the run and proper balancing of fun/function with a mind toward not being annoying to the player experience... Amazing!
Well, that is because they are the Devs of the game, so of course they know where all the secrets and better shortcuts are. After all, they did put them there. However, the player doing the speed run doesn't have that same knowledge, and can only go as fast as they can, based on their exploration and experiences in the game.
The quit to title may not seem like a lot of sense as it didn’t give him (much) health back. However it reset the bar. When the bar is at its lowest the game thinks that he has full health even though he’d die from basically anything. Meaning the RTSR wouldn’t work properly.
At 9:17, he quits to title because he wouldn't get the damage boost from the charm otherwise. The miasma reduced his total health to almost zero, but it was technically a full health bar which negates the charm's effect.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who called it "Red Tearstone Ring" the whole time. It's such a solid concept for an ability so I'm glad to see it permeate into more games.
Y pensar que despues de derrotar al boss final y creer que consegui todos las armas, encontre un pasadizo secreto debajo del punte cerca de la playa y encontre el reloj de arena (detiene el tiempo)este juego no deja de sorprenderme
As far as the predictions about how fast the speedrun would get, the fastest time as of this comment is sitting at 17 minutes 25 seconds, by GrosHiken, and nobody has been able to beat that for the past 10 months. So the laughing guess of 16 minutes was definitely a lot closer than the serious prediction of 23 minutes.
It's very weird and interesting that the Audio Director knows so much about the inner workings of the deveoopment of the game way outside of the realm of audio....
"kill plane" is the plane (as in flat invisible surface" that kills you if you for instance you fall off the edge. so they're going beneath it before it loads in, then tricking the boss into following them so he walks into it and dies
10:40 Does anyone know how the speedrunner freezed his enemy so fast? It wasn't the dagger as it was not consumed, is it a glitch using the wand and the dagger?
I'm not sure if it was the difficulty or cryptic manual that did it, but this game made me feel truly worthless as a player on my way to the end of my 20 hour playthrough. Speed running this game in particular is still mind-blowing to me.
you can safely leave windows in the dumpster :) Runs great under wine 6.17 (manjaro, gtx 1650, 9300h), no issues. auto controller button mapping and everything. chefs kiss
How did they go to the end-boss without needing to get the Laurels? Like, why didn't the hit from the Heir cause them to go back to the beach as a ghost?

Not only that... it goes even deeper. They thought about people who like ARGs too.
Yes that's literally their job is to think of all those things lol
@@cainification not really though as most Devs make a game and call it that
I'd say the best way to carry for speed runners is to create a great engine. Some mechanics cannot be put into the game, they must be phenomenologic.

At 9:17 Andrew asks "why the quit to title?"
It looks like quit to title reverts runner's health bar max to full. It had been drained to zero by the miasma.
But why though? The current health did not restore and the max health will restore on death anyway
@@Stdvwr bro, if he died he would have reset and spawned back to checkpoint, so it would be entirely pointless. He menu jumped to reset and spawn in the same room.
@@obscure_genesis which he did after the boss fight. Your point? He did not heal up until that point so he doesn't need that max HP
@@Stdvwr no he didn't? Click the time stamp, he reset his max hp way before the boss, when he just left the miasma place.

This Speedrun is well commented, love how much fun the devs are having with it
LOVE how much fun and joy these developers have seeing their game being broken in so many ways, they clearly are speedrun-affictionados ^^
It always bothered me that Retro Studios fought back against speedrun clips by fixing skips. Metroid has always been about speedrunning.

Kevin is really funny, knowledgable, great mic quality, and is fun to listen too!
It's a running theme that the audio engineers have the best mic quality on these... Whoda thunk?
9:15 Looks like the quit to title restores your max HP if it's been drained by Miasma. Probably to enable RTSR.
