I recently took advantage of the Amazon Prime deals, and picked myself up a set of Soundcore Life A1's... Being a bit of an 'Audiophile' so to speak and thus preferring to use wired and over ear headphones, it was my first venture into 'Ear buds' since I was using a cassette walkman MAAAAAAANY moons a go (I then went onto Minidisc players... And being a bit dubious about sound quality, I decided to just go budget price initially... And, after watching a few reviews, yup, these 'Life A1's? Bloody 'ell! They are actually pretty darned good for the price! (£25) - 9Hours play time plus another 26 hours charge in the case, 3 built in sound modes in the buds, IPX7, supports single bud audio, wireless/USB C charging and more.. I went for the Life A1's as earbuds tend to fall out whilst working under my car, hence going for something 'With Wings' (lol 😉). I DID have a little fiddle about swapping the silicone tips and wings to get best fit, but, for what they cost, yeah, colour me impressed! So, maybe, I might just go bigger in price with some Sennheiser/Bose/Sony's etc (WILL NEVER BUY APPLE). I only bought these earbuds for sort of everyday p!ssing about, working on my car, going shopping etc, as my 'Proper' listening is done at home with any of my other proper cans (Meze 99 Neo, Sennheiser HD600/PXC550-II (still pretty good for wireless/BT), Sony MDR7506 and a coupla others...
So yeah, IF, you can't even afford £/$100 but do still want a good earbud setup, I CAN recommend the Life A1 by Soundcore. Seems like Anker know what they're doing building budget/reasonably priced, but great sounding, feature rich 'Ear wonders' 👍😊

      @paulhibbert
Forgot to update this post. I ended up buying some with a bit of a discount direct from Anker.
Really pleased with them! If you’re a iPhone only user getting them to support HiFi audio codecs for laptop connectivity requires an android device to enable, which is a bit of a pain. It’s also worth noting that this disables multipoint audio capability.
Sound quality is amazing. Build quality is very good, though they don’t feel quite as premium in the hand as the AirPods Pro. Base is good. Noise cancelling is also very good though harsher than AirPods Pro.
Over all, very very happy with these! They pair very well (both over Bluetooth and visually) with my blue Lenovo Yogabook 9i.
The biggest gripe over all is not anything to do with the buds or Anker, but actually for the fairly crappy implementation of Bluetooth across Windows devices. Most devices and Bluetooth stacks don’t support the LDAC HiFi audio codec which renders these no better than regular earbuds. You need to buy the Alternative A2DP driver from www.bluetoothgoodies.com/a2dp/ if your Bluetooth stack doesn’t support LDAC.

Great video. However would be good to reference against the Bose Quietcomfort 2, sony wf-1000xm4 and AirPods Pro 2 because you mention these are better than all other earbuds but surely not these more premium ones?

I bought the Liberty 4NC's and can confirm they are a great performer and a bargain for the price. On a commercial airliner, the automatic noise cancellation was amazing, removing the sounds of crying babies, screaming children, and fighting passengers. The only thing they couldn't do was stop the little twat seated behind me from kicking my seat for four hours!

Honestly, I was obviously hoping for the best but the story here is that these buds are simply amazing and far exceed anything I kinda expected. The buds, the app and just the overall quality in the experience blows right by the price point and puts it in much higher company. Great video & outstanding product, sincere thanks!

The other day I was searching through TK Maxx's clearance area and low and behold there at the back of the rail was a Soundcore Note life 3 ear bud box. I remembered watching this video sometime back and the great review you gave to soundcore buds. These were £12 in clearance while Currys were still selling them for £107, which are very over priced. All I can say is thank you these are fantastic. I never thought I would get away with ear buds and to tell you the truth they were going to be a stepping stone to a more big brand pair if I could get away with them. Not any more these are for keeps!

The problem I have with earbuds is that they all work themselves out of my ears. Despite me changing the earplug sizes to no avail. However I have the Spirit X2's since the earhooks keep them from just falling on the floor. Now if only they too had ANC featured, it would have been a nice upgrade from basic earbuds.

I'll admit that I'm no audiophile. I can hear down to about 17Hrz and up to 24KHz (which is pretty amazing on my fast-approaching-septuagenarian OEM ears) however, I lack much of the aesthetic capacity to judge all that sound I can hear. So, I have to trust people who have that capacity such as yourself. (This is a somewhat long-winded way of saying "Thanks for doing the review")
I can, however, judge that the sound in my own Soundcore buds is not muddled and sounding like apian flatulence. I can also judge that the battery life is quite good and more than adequate for my needs. So in that I agree with your assessments.
The other thing that I like about the Soundcore products is that they're not priced so high that when I certain significant other of mine looses one in the garden, I can be a bit philosophical about replacing it.
Thanks for your review. Fun and informative as always.
P.S. I did appreciate your anticipating a few of your likely comments and applying the appropriate rubber chicken to their face. Well done.

SoundCore deliver value across most of their range so this is more of a complaint of this sector as a whole. But how have we gotten to a place where we spend a not insignificant amount of money on tech that ends up in land fill sooner rather than later? Unless you can replace the battery easily?

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  Год назад +2

The way we burn through tech these days is frightening, I agree. I can't remember the last time I burnt out the battery of a pair of earbuds though to be fair, I think I still have some in my drawer from 10 years ago that I could charge up and use 👍

I am having the them as well but I am dissapointed since the ANC is not working when I am in the call and sidetone is constantly running that makes that I can't hear person in the call as I am interrupted by the noise outside? I also hear some white noise as soon as I start the call...I am not really impressed with the microphone quality of Sony LinkBuds.

You can start Alexa with a gesture, assuming your phone can set Alexa as the preferred voice assistant. But yeah, with the echo buds you can call her by name and I don't THINK you can do that here, it may depend on your phone because my Motorolla used to let you call Alexa by name.

I've got a pair of Liberty Pro Air 2's and I love the sound of them, but I find them to be the most fiddly of earbuds to wear. Never managed to get them to fit properly for more than half an hour at a time. Tried all of the various tips and just can't get them to stay in. I still keep going back to my very old Shure Se530's which is great while phones have 3.5mm plugs.
A while back I picked up a cheap set of KZ IEM's with the bluetooth adaptor. They're fine audio wise., but very comfortable.
My current go to bluetooth earbuds are Technics AZ60's. Really comfortable and they sound great especially with LDAC enabled. Recently stuck some Comply foam eartips on them. So comfy.

This week I've got the Liberty 4 NC but as the Buds Live are pretty good in my opinion, I might return the Liberty 4 NC, even though they are also pretty good. I decided to purchase them for the ANC but if you don't want to hear a thing (noisy neighbours, in my case), you must get a pair of headphones.
    3:23 "10 - 6.5 = 4.5" 🤔😄

My first pair of Soundcore earbuds were the Soundcore Liberty Pro 2s (non air). I've had them since August 2020 and loved them since the beginning. I was using wired in-ear monitors before so I was reluctant to lose the fidelity switching to a wireless earbud. They were my workout/travel/laying in bed/walk etc. earbuds since. Recently, I lost the charging case. I was pretty bummed because I quite liked the earbuds still even behind behind feature wise being a few years old now. Long story short, there wasn't really any reasonably priced charging cases only, refurbished or new, or even really used when I was looking around. I figured might as well check out what else Soundcore has to offer and got them for $79.99 during the 20% off pre-prime day coupon.
Took me a bit to get used to how they fit in my ear ( I recommend trying the different tip sizes to get a good seal and use the fitment tool in the settings, I'm usually a medium or so but had to go up to the large for these) and the stem style of earbud, but I love them now and they stay in well. LDAC is great and is noticeably cleaner when I'm listening to music, multipoint is very convenient while I'm working and want to switch to watching a video on my phone or whatever. Generally, I use LDAC mode which can't be enabled with multi-point. Oh, and the dark blue color is SEXY!
Best review of the Liberty 4 NC I've seen and I've nearly seen them all; subscribed!

Most anc buds focus on cancelling out engine sounds as the priority, it is never 100% efficient and as these sounds tend toward the lower end of the spectrum, companies give the bass in your music a bit of a boost to help mask those sounds.

Not wishing to disparage Derek in any way but for me the most important part of getting the best sound out of any in ear phones is the seal on the tips. All these earpods rely on creating a reverb box in your ear to get the bass sound so holding the phones up to Dereks microphones is not going to give anything like the sound you hear when they're properly fitted.
Also would be nice if you could include a detail that I never see covered - you demonstrated the sound from the microphone but recorded in your studio. I'd like to hear how they perform in a noisy environment - my wife banned me from using my Tronsmart Apollo phones which have good sound for the cost but the microphones pick up and amplify ambient noise on a call so that it's really intrusive. My replacements - Samsung galaxy buds2 are excellent in this and sound pretty good too to me even if you're not a fan.

I bought these because of a good deal on black friday and because of positive reviews. Well. For sound quality they put my google buds pro to shame as well as multiple jabra earbuds and headphones. They even beat out some proper iems. ANC seems great. The google pros are very good in that category also. The google pros beat them in most other categories and for touch controls, but the sound out of the soundcores is mindblowing for the price, especially ising your tuning!

I got the Jabra Elite 85t, because the guy in the store said they are better than the Sony ones at the same price. 185 Euros for the garbage! They hurt after wearing them for more than 30 minutes. Not like cheese, but giving me red spots after wearing them too long. They are also very sensitive to other BT signals. Passing by shops selling mobile devices or visiting shops with high amount of electronic security in general, the headphones don't keep connection. Sometimes even on public streetlights where they are probably using emitters on the same or close frequency. Cheap BT headphones up to 50 or 60 Euros never had a problem with this.
      Hope this helps anyone...

Don't care what the manufacturers claim you can't beat a good set of over the ear headphones. They sound better and you don't run the risk of losing one because you scratched your ear and one fell out! I've lost count of the number of people while at work at my local shopping centre who asked for help sometimes in a panic and sometimes actually crying because they've lost one of their ridiculously expensive ear buds!

Good review and a fair price for the Soundcores. But there are old school alternatives worth remembering. Wired earphones... unlimited battery life, no RF transmission going into your brain (no skull to protect you) and a built-in drop-on-floor protection feature. :-) Earphone socket adaptors are available for Android and Apple for £10 or less.

I do like these, for a cheap pair of TWS buds, and the sound is pretty good.
But, the tips are uncomfortable, and make my ears hurt - and Anker have decided to go with a stupid square hole design so you can't just swap them out with some nice third party foam tips, or Spinrites, or, well, just anything that would be better than these tips.
So these will sadly have to live in a drawer until someone makes better tips for them.
