I love your lazy way of gathering because it takes away a lot of guess work when joining the 2 layers
Thank you! I find it calculated and easy enough to do LOL
thank you for showing me how to make a lazy petticoat !! I am horrible at gathers and your tutorial is extremely helpful especially because i just have gotten into historical dress and have no petticoats :( .
Sweet! I’m glad it could help
I feel like your channel is becoming my go to resource for my princess cosplays 😁 I already learned so much from you. Thank you!
Ah! That makes me super happy to hear! I’m glad it can help
You did such a great job explaining all the math in a way that makes sense!
Thank you so much mate!
Her: a sewing machine
Me who handsews everything: 👁👄👁
Each to their own :) I simply don’t have the time or patience to hand sew everything
@@KirileeCosplay I just can’t afford a sewing machine so I use this tiny af embroidery needle
Fair enough. If you want a sewing machine- ask around to see if anyone has a sewing machine they aren’t using or ask online in a group in your area if someone has a sewing machine they are thinking of getting rid of. You would be surprised how many sewing machines are just gathering up dust! :)
@@eldritchcupcakes3195 check your local library, some have sewing machines you can borrow
@@KirileeCosplay my grandmother has one from the 1800s and I’m pulling an Orpheus if I don’t inherit that. Also my mother gave me one for Christmas! Sewing a cursed modified furby and then some historical clothing!
This is so damn helpful! At first, I was scared I will not make it as pretty as yours because I hand sew. But it turned out perfect! And it looks so good with the crinoline! Off I go to make the skirt on top of it! You are a savior, thank you so much keep uploading and being amazing!!!
I’m so glad it could help
This and your cage crinoline video are so helpful . Honestly the gathering technique is mind blowing and so beautiful. Never stop uploading!
Thank you so much! I just always found it the easiest and the most even way of gathering quickly. I'm super happy it could help you
That is a lovely, simple petticoat and I'm excited that it's so easy to make.
I’m glad it works for you :)
I could not decided about the width of petticoat for a year. Thank you very much for this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Not making a petticoat, but this will be useful to my cosplay dress with gathering :D Thanks a lot
Awesome! Good luck!
This is such a great tutorial thank you! I want my Sophie Hatter cosplay to have just a tad extra poof to the skirt so this is perfect- Also I'd like to add this is the only method of gathering that hasn't made my brain hurt so thank you!!
Oh fabulous! I’m so glad this could help!
I literally just came here to replicate Sewstine's Sophie Hatter cosplay and realized I needed a petticoat. Uncanny!
This tutorial was really easy to follow and I used this and your crinoline tutorial for my snow white cosplay and I'm so pleased with how it turned out! Thanks for posting :D
I am so glad that both helped! Do you have photos of your Snow White?
@@KirileeCosplay Just finished it, there's a picture on my twitter @baaarf :^)
Found this tutorial from a Google search, and it has been incredibly helpful, thank you! Loved the diagrams.
Thank you! I’m glad it could help. Thanks for letting me know how you found it
@@KirileeCosplay You're welcome.
Since I watched it I went out and bought a few yards of white cotton... You're very inspiring 🤩
Ohhh it's so pretty! What a great tutorial and it also shows of the petticoat which is nice! Cause once it's under a huge dress all you might see is just the bottom of the petticoat lol
Exactly- plus it still needs to be functional and hide the hoops
Great video! I really like your videos and your fun personality :)
Thank you so much for those kind words!
oh my god!! i want to do this so bad. thank you for making this, i think i might actually give this a try!!
You should! It is really easy, and great for a quick project.
Just beautiful. It goes well with the Crinoline/hoop skirt tutorial.
Thank you :)
Thanks so much. I finished my petticoat today. It looks great!
That is so wonderful! Congratulations
Just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing this! I just used this tutorial to make my own skirt to use with my Princess Daisy cosplay. Love how it came out. You're awesome!!

I love the look of this.
Cool! It is also so easy to make!
Thank you for this! Also for your crinoline tutorial! It’s just what I needed.
My absolute pleasure!
This should help with my rose quartz cosplay! Thank you 😀
Awesome good luck with that cosplay!
This seems really helpful and pretty yet I am super lost. I’ll go spend another arm and leg at the fabric store and come back to this 😅
What is confusing? It is just rectangles :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have a knee length crinoline made of tulle and needed some extra support for a floor length skirt so this was very helpful.
And if I can make a suggestion for people who don't have a lot of space to work (I only have an ironing board and small card table as I live in a tiny apartment)? Try sewing the back seam after you've finished the flounce but before you add the elastic, fitted waistband/drawstring. That way, you can just fold the finished pieces off to the side and save space and I find it a lot easier to work with smaller circles on my sewing machine.
Good suggestion as an alternative way of construction :)
Loved the video! Such a great explanation of the steps! I love your bubbly personality 🌸
Thanks so much!
Love your video, it's very helpful. And I love you petticoat it's very beautifully done and elegant.
Thank you so much!

I’m so glad it could help!
Using this for my prom dress altercations thank you!
Nice! I am sure it will look stunning!
Exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks!
Pleasure!
this is a great tutorial to get the gathers even I cannot use a crinoline as a extra as I am doing a costume for a ring class for next year ,I plan on using a eyelet fabric for the bottom I only know inches for measurement so will use McCalls 4339 pattern.
Thank you!
Beautiful! Nice explanation too... I'm a new sub!🎉😊
Thank you so much!
I need a multi fitted fastening or closure method, so I can accommodate multiple sizes wearing the same petticoats skirts etc
*Theater work : )
But this tutorial is fabulous! Cheers doll!
Glad it could help!
Great tutorial! Your instructions are always so easy to follow! Also cute shoes!
Thank you! They are from Williams ^_^ I have them in black too!
I'm gonna use this to make a petticoat for my plague doctor outfit for Halloween this year. I got sick last year and didn't get to go out like I had planned to. I refuse to be stuck at home this year tho
Have fun!
Thank you!!
Pleasure
Leaving a comment for the algorithm. Don't tell them though.
Hahaha shhhh don’t tell them ;)
Great tutorial really helpful I might try it when I get the fabric andlso get my sewing machine to work again 😂
Awesome! Let us know how it goes!
Thank for the tutorial
My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Stunning 😍
Thank you! :)
Nice, thank you
My pleasure! I hope it helped
Hello ! I know I’m late, but thank you so much for this tutorial ! English is not my first language, and although my level is acceptable, I do not always understand everything when it comes to very specific vocabulary ; yet everything in your video is so clear ! It makes me feel like I can do it. One day, my costume projects will come to life !
Also, I have a question : here, you made you petticoat so it can be placed over a crinoline. However, is it possible to use this kind of petticoat without one ? I have ideas for a dress that would require a certain amount of volume, but not to the point of needing a crinoline, and I definitely do not have the money for lots and lots of fabrics. Following this, is it possible to use multiple petticoats under a dress, or would it risk making the result look weird ?
Again, thank you so much for this video. I’ll definitely be checking your other tutorials !
Lots of love, and happy sewing !
Hi! You can certainly make petticoats and not wear a crinoline underneath to add volume. However, generally you need multiple layers which can become hot. That’s why the crinoline was first invented. However you could always look at doing a simplified hoop skirt- a very small crinoline with only one or two hoops. That way it isn’t too much work
@@KirileeCosplay Thank you so much ! I’ll see what I can do then !
Everything makes so much more sense now!! Also, where'd you get your shoes? I want a pair!!!
Thank you! From a shop in Australia but they are now discontinued
I’m making my own Halloween custom and I’m going to have this type of dress
Cool! Good luck!
Will you make a video for a full, very full, long petticoat for a ballgown? For something like a really poofy Belle dress.
Have you checked out my tiered layered petticoat tutorial?
@@KirileeCosplay yes I have
Thank God its centimeters and meters!
Aussie here :)
What type of fabric did you use ?:3 it looks so beautiful !
It is a sateen but honestly I would recommend that you use a cotton or something a tad more light weight and non stretch than sateen :)
Yasssss
Cool
Last time I tried to sew I ruined my crocheted bag, and now I'm back again because I procrastinated ordering a petticoat for Halloween until it was too late.... hope I don't ruin 5 metres of fabric :D
You won’t! Good luck
What kind of fabric did you use?
And thanks for the video, it's going to be very helpfull!
This is cotton sateen but I would suggest something lighter like a normal cotton or poplin
I chose to torture myself and sew 4 peticoats for a dress I'm wearing... I think I'll give a try to your lazy lady method xD
Works like I charm :)
What would you recommend for someone who doesn't really want a crinoline petticoat to wear under a dress. I have one dress that is Victorian(ish) in design and has a hem circumference of around 3m, including 1.5m pleated at the front into a 25cm area in the front (princess seam design with the front panel a different colour to the rest of the dress, 1.5m pleated into the waistband at the front). I have a couple of other dresses and skirts that are nowhere near as full as this, one sort of vaguely a full walking skirt with pleats at the back and a couple that have circular skirts to them. A crinoline would be a mite over the top but I need some support under the Victorian dress at least, and ideally under at least two of the skirts as well, because they really don't show to their best without something. Any advice gratefully received.
Really enjoy your tutorials by the way, glad I found you earlier this year.
A crinoline will end up being the lightest weight option- otherwise you will have lots of petticoats and layers
what foot did you use to hem? Love the finish
Either a rolled hem foot or a normal foot
Oh lord, the cutting of all the fabric pieces has me quite confused. I'm sure its something id understand if I were watching this while cutting my fabric as well but ahhh. The rest of the video is easy to follow haha, maybe im just slow! Also could be the difference in units, as I'm just a dumb american LOL
Please feel free to watch again and use a converter into yards or inches if it helps :)
Hi I love your channel and was wondering if a bed sheet would work for a petticoat?
Yes!
If I wanted some tule type skirt layers, would I just measure to the bottom of the flounce, measure width the same way and add a drawstring at the top? Or would you recommend measuring slightly wider so it gathers a bit more?
Yes you can!
Could this be done with organza or do you recommend a cotton fabric?
It can be done with organza - you will just need to overlock all your raw edges or hem them so they don’t fray/ scratch you
👌🏻
Thanks!
What if you don't have the crinoline? How would you make a petticoat then?
The same way but it won’t have the structural support that the crinoline provides
how would the petticoat look without the crinoline tho? would it still add poof or is the crinoline needed for that?
It will still add a little poof, especially where the ruffles are, but to get the larger shapes, I would recommend a crinoline
Can this be worn without a crinoline?
Yes
@@KirileeCosplaygreat thanks
How much fabric did you use total?
About 4 I think?
How many rectangles did you made? I don't get it TT~TT.
Can you explain me please?
Two. One for the base, and then one long one width wise which I gathered down for the flounce
I'm horrible with the metric system....can you still use the same math for the Imperial system?
Yes. One inch is about 2.5cm :)
@@KirileeCosplay OMG, Thank you so much!
What is the width of your elastiek band?
Not sure- just what feels secure without being too tight
Would this petticoat and crinoline be accurate to the 1860s?
I loosely based it off some examples - though it would have a fitted waistband rather than elastic. Though Truly Victorian has some great patterns!
what fabric did you use?
Cotton
What fabric did you use?
Cotton sateen but I would recommend something lighter
@@KirileeCosplay I’ve never sewn anything in my life, so what exactly is lighter 😂 sorry to bother you again
Not a bother at all. Try a poplin :)
@@KirileeCosplay thank you so much!
I am so confused...why 3 strips a 35cm?? I keep rewatching the video and I just get more confused
Because you sew them together to make one long rectangle to ruffle down
where do you get your sewing patterns?
The shops, market place and they are given to me
What machine do you use??
Janome Skyline 9 :)
Oop
Ok?
Lazy...aka how I have done gathering for over a decade as it ends up more even than fork pleats or my gathering foot lol.
True
Its a horse show class.Riding a side saddle is not possibility
Wha?
