I love the analogy of Where's Waldo? meets The Floor is Lava. Perfect way to describe losing a pin in the floor, lol
I can’t take credit for it- I saw it online and thought it was hilarious and wanted to include it
I'm gonna sew a bunch of dresses so that for everyday of the school year, I look like a princess.
I love this!
Haha! We have the same idea
For real
You're winning
My goal for senior year. I want to feel like I'm in a fantasy shojo manga
Hey there! I made a petticoat like this one and a reallt useful hack was to instead of pins use bobbipins (like, the ones you put in your hair) and go in between the small openings in the tule and They don't fall of!!!!!
That’s a good idea!
you can also use safety pins
The floof is stunning. I have around 5 pettis now and I'll be making more.
Awesome!
The Lazy Lady gathering method has honestly saved my life! My gathering and ruffler feet don't have that same ease when I'm putting all the different tiers together
I have found the same thing!
My best friend is having a retro tea party/garden party for her bridal shower, and I think your video has actually saved my life
I am so glad that I may have helped!
I know that this video was made 4 years ago but i just keep coming back to it. It was very easy to follow and understand thank you!
I am so glad it has helped you out!
You are the poof master! I shall now go forth and make all the floofy dresses I've ever wanted. Thanks bunches for making these =D!
My absolute pleasure!
The best petticoat tutorial I’ve watched! I watched too many, and still felt that it doesn’t suit what I want.
I’ve just subscribed! Love from the Philippines
Glad it was helpful! My aunt is from Cebu so hello! :)
Oh and I loooove your Lazy Lady gathering technique; I shall henceforth cease using the basting method and instead use what I shall call “Smart Lady Gathering technique”
Hahahaha! I am glad I could help you!
I have no sewing machine, no fabric, and looking at the mess of tulle makes me think I should just suck it up and pay the money, but all that said, you are absolutely delightful! I love your energy and jokes. Keep it up!
Thank you so much!
I would've loved to see the petticoat under a skirt, to see the effect.
There are pictures on my Instagram and Facebook. At that point in time, I didn’t have the skirt completed. But hey, thanks for your opinion.
All your analogies were spot on! I loved them. Angry cats indeed. I use to hate when my mom got me dresses with tulle now im learning what was wrong with the designs. Thank you!!
Hahaha! I’m so glad you enjoyed the references :)
"The ruffles will feel like they are trying to attack you" hahahaha. I love your humor
Hahaha thank you
That is some extreme volume in the skirt! Love it!
Thanks hun!
I’ve always wanted to make a poodle skirt thank you for the tutorial on how to make the undergarments for it. Also when it comes to me losing pins I like to take a magnet or as I call it a magic wand and try to pick them up that way
Love it! They are very helpful
i do absolutely love your casualness when you teach, it makes it so much easier to retain and enjoy the process!
Thank you so much!
Another amazing tutorial I’m in love with the floooof
Thank you! ^_^
I was just looking for a tea length petticoat tutorial! Oh the timing for this is absolutely perfect! I will have to try making this sometime soon!
Awesome! Good luck!
I love when you explained it , feels optimistic.
since i've been made it twice and because of consuming a lot of time, i never had any thoughts to make it again, but since i saw your video, it courage me to make it again.
You can do it! It you want it to take a shorter amount of time, make sure to get the stiffer tulle rather than softer because you don't need as many layers as soft (but it will look a bit different :))
Just found you today while researching what kind of petticoat I’ll need to make for my 50s style dress and I’m absolutely hooked, you are so thorough and I love the sound of your voice! Can’t wait for more!
Why thank you so much for your very kind words!
Thank you SO much!!!
I’m having a swing skirt under my wedding dress, and wanted a multi coloured petticoat under it so give it some VA-VOOM!!! This tutorial is going to help me so much!!!
Ohhhh how exciting
ooooh so nice! I'm loving the volume that the petticoat gives!
Thank you so much!
The floor is lava mixed with where’s Waldo is the only way I will be describing dropping a pin from Now on Thank you so much for this I’m super excited to try it for my upcoming project :)
You are so welcome! And enjoy the game LOL
Going to a wedding in less than a week and couldn't find a petticoat the right length ANYWHERE. This tutorial came in clutch! ❤ Now I have a custom pink one for all my fluffy dress dreams. Thank you!
I am so glad that I could help!
Love the video. Im looking forward to eventually drowning in tool.
You can do it! It is fun to flounce in tulle!
I'm going to make a red petticoat out of lining fabric (old prom dress upcycle), and this is a great resource
Thanks so much! The project sounds so wonderful- I love red and a good upcycle project
Great explanation thank you! I'll try to make this petticoat soon
Awesome! Good luck!
Fantastic! Off to make a poof petticoat for my daughter’s mini-skirt wedding dress! Shall look fabulous. Thanks for the tutorial. I have played “ Sewing Room, The Floor is Lava” many times, I always seem to loose…
My pleasure!
Thank you for such a simple and easily understandable tutorial, plus your humour is supercool, you had me giggling multiple times here! :D
I am so glad it was helpful and enjoyable :)
I’m trying this and will finish by the end of the month lol
Good luck!
love that floofy petti
Thank you! Me too! It is fun to prance around in.
This was perfect
I’m glad you liked it!
I love this tutorial but I don't seem to be getting notified when you post even tho I have all notifications on witch is kinda sad but at least I can still watch them:)
Check if your notification bell is set to "All"! Mine was changed to "Personalized" and I didn't get the notification either :(
@@AmyTheJawsTerminator oh thanks but I already did
What phantomhive said. Sometimes RUclips likes to really hide videos. :(
A great video! As always❤ you really helped me with the short petticoat tutorial to make my first petticoat, and this video makes me want to make another one😂💕
I’m so glad that it all helps ^_^
thank you for upload so many video, these video help me a lot when i have problem in sewing costume
thank you
I'm so glad!
Really helpful, thanks. I've just made one using these instructions as my basis. My tiers were each 9" deep (and I had to trim the top one down to 7" before adding the elastic because it was a bit too long for the dress). I only had 6m of stiff tulle (60"/150cm wide) so I used 2m for the first tier, 5m for the second and 2 layers of 12m each for tier 3 (the flounce at the bottom).
Magu's tip of using bobby pins (we call them kirby grips here in the UK) instead of pins was really helpful. For the lower two tiers I attached them at intervals of 25 cm for tier 2 and 60cm for tier 3 (same ratio as the 5:12 for the lengths), then gathered as I went round. For the top two tiers it was 20cm for tier 1 and 50cm for tier 2.
The resulting petticoat has so much body that it literally stands up by itself!
Good work!
Love! Love!! Love!! This tutorial.. Thank you
My absolute pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for another excellent tutorial 😊
My absolute pleasure! I hope it can help!
You are god sent 😅
Awww thank you!
I absolutely LOVED this video!! I’m trying to make a petticoat for my prom dress because I can’t find any that match the beautiful, rich wine red.
Good luck!
I just tried making my first petticoat which was also my first time sewing with tulle AND i didn't watch any videos or use a pattern, so it was a catastrophe 😂 This was super helpful, so thank you!!
I'm glad I could help for your next one!
I love your tutorials, thank you for making these so easy to understand!
You are so welcome!
Women you're explaining it way much better than my math teacher 😂 such a adorable way to explain really helped alot ❤️❤️❤️
Happy to help!
GREAT TUTORIAL!!!!! you are amazing!!!
Thanks!
Yeah I agree- great jokes haha (where’s Waldo and the floor is lava) This tutorial helped me make a Alice In Wonderland costume for my daughter. Thank you!!
How wonderful! I am so glad that it helped!
I need to make several petticoats and your method is the simplest! Thank you.
p.s. I love your Dr. Who shorts, during the worst of the pandemic, I made face masks with that fabric. 😊
You are so welcome!
Sweet tutorial!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for the useful tutorial! I was looking quite long for a pattern that would suit my interest. Mine would be just longer for my blue velvet-princess evening gown :)
Sounds brilliant! Good luck with your creation!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've only made the last two sections because it's poof was perfect already for a skirt I'm making. I didn't really get the gathering as you go method, but I hand basted it which made it a little smaller than usual. I'm not so sure what I did wrong, plait thanks for the tutorial!
The good thing about ruffles is they don’t have to be absolutely perfect
So beautiful and really enjoyable how you speak! Also I'm not sure I can do it based on this but I have an idea in 5 min at least!
Good luck!
Have you ever tried making one whole length with layer one, then sewing on one ruffle for section 2 and a double ruffle for section 3?
You could do that if you so wish ^_^ I just don’t really use ruffling foots personally
Love this video, you explained it so well 👏❤
Glad you liked it!! Thank you
funny and informative. loved it!
Thank you so much!
This is so easy thanks for posting.
You’re welcome 😊
Excellent tutorial! Right on time too.
Thanks
Thank you very helpful
Pleasure
I never subscribe, but you had me up "lazy lady"! ❤️🤣
hahaha I am glad
I loved your video ,it was very helpful and exactly what I needed 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I’m glad it helped
You are really talented. Love your tutorial
Thank you! :)
I really love your videos ~ 💗 they help me when i do my cosplay costumes ~
I’m so glad that I could help xoxo
Lol where's waldo 😂
Excellent tutorial, i'm doing this for my child. She's at the age where the puffier, the better 😂
And the lazy lady is perfect, i think i must try--because my ruffle foot is moody 🥲
Thanks for watching!
@@KirileeCosplay oOMGG the lazy lady is perfect 😭 daughter now begs for another puffy skirt ❤️ i feel like an accomplished seamstress, all thanks to you ❤️
This is wonderful, thank you!! 😊
My pleasure!
“Where’s Waldo and the floor is lava “ 😂
Indeed lol
Thank you for this, I've been looking at how to make one for my BJD. Also when it comes to pins I skip them and use small fold back paper clips so much less painful then pins :D
Neat idea!
Great instructions and funny!
Thank you!
Love it! Thank u!
You are so welcome!
Very nice.
Thanks!
I have a question, when you sew them, which length of stitch did you use?
Just a regular stitch length will do fine :)
Nice tutorial, im gonna try it soon 💗
Awesome!
looks great!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you 😊
My pleasure!
Great. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Thanks this so useful 🥰😘😘
Glad it was helpful!
I will try this ❤
Good luck! :)
Do you believe you could give a tutorial on a Cinderella inspired ball gown petticoat? I really loved the way her gown appeared in the live action.
Bella mae has a ton of great videos in that cosplay and petticoat! Please check her out
@@KirileeCosplay Ok, thank you!! ♡
Is there a method to figuring out the measurements or can I use the ones you provided?
Twice the size of your waist measurement for top section, then the next sections down are 3 times the previous one.
Kirilee Cosplay thank you!!
Another awesome, short, but extremely helpful video. if you don't have a crinoline, would doing multiple layers (like in your short petticoat video) get the same effect?
The short answer is yes but you would need a lot of layers and it would probably quite heavy :)
Kirilee Cosplay 😭😭 thanks anyway
Lining, lining, always lining....
I agree :)
Hello and Love from India ❤ I am not sure if I am gonna get a reply because it’s an old vid but i am gonna try😅 i have a question for you, did you use stiff polyester net or nylon net? Because their stiffness has a huge difference and I need the answer desperately because hard polyester net is very cheap and available here but nylon hard net is expensive, they also have different hardness, by seeing your video I am assuming you have used nylon net but in a RUclips viewer comment you replied you used polyester net. I am confused, if you cleared the confusion I would be obliged ❤❤❤❤❤
Honestly, it was a stiff net - that is all I know. It was tulle that was given to me and I used it from my stash
Awesome 👍
Thanks!
Hi Kirilee, I get a lot of my fabric from spotlight, and I know that you do too, so I was just wondering which tulle you used for this petticoat! I am looking to make my own, and I don't know which will be too soft, I'd be so very grateful for any help!
The tulle you can get from spotlight will work very well for this type of petticoat. It is quite rigid
Would like to know how to fill out one I already have. Anyone have any ideas? I wear a short one with shorter dresses to add ruffles under them.
You could always see more layers over it
I see you're wearing a corset in your video but what if one were to wear the petticoat over bare skin as I likely will, wouldn't the elastic be scratchy? Would you recommend encasing the elastic in the lining instead?
Hi! Great question! I’ve worn elastic waistbands without it being encased a lot and I’ve never had a problem with them being itchy :)
Is this a proper shape for lolita style of skirt? Look absoltely adorable
It might be a little too full but if you use soft tulle it could work
I used this tutorial to make an A-line skirt for the same purpose, and using the same measurements but 8.5 in width rather than 10 in width, currently I think the bottom tier is a little too full for my needs. I might try ironing the bottom tier seam and if it's still too full I might consider removing one of the bottom ruffles. If/when I reach a shape I'm satisfied with I will update
Edit: after removing one portion of section 3, I'm quite happy with the shape of the petticoat. It's a poofy A-line shape that ends right at my knee. I found that for me, the gathering at the waist adds all the extra volume I need. I'm 5'1" and use a 26 in waistband, but different shapes and sizes may cause the fabric to gather differently. Overall I'm super happy with this tutorial!
I'm making a Alice in wonderland costume and I will be using this to make the fluffiest skirt ever.
Yay! Have fun with that
Where did you buy the tulle? I'm also in Australia, and really confused about the different stiffnesses of tulle.. and netting ... like how would your tulle compare to the standard $2/m netting at spotlight? In terms of stiffness? It makes such a difference to the volume! The tulle on the bolt I've seen others use seems to be a lot softer... and how much of the bolt did you use?
So this tulle is the tulle from spotlight. I didn’t use the whole bolt- only a couple of meters :)
@@KirileeCosplay I see! So I'm assuming you bought the polyester tulle? Would I be right in saying the bridal tulle at spotlight is softer? Thanks for replying!
That is all correct ^_^
@@KirileeCosplay awesome, thanks so much for your help! Will be so much easier when i can go in store again 😅
My pleasure! Glad to help!
Amazing! is there any specific name for this kind of petticoat?
Not that I’m aware of- just a short or above knee petticoat
@@KirileeCosplay thank you💕
How fluffy of an effect do you get without the chrinolin? I'm making this some time this week or next week for a dress I'm doing for a costuming project, and I want pretty poofy. Should I do multiple ruffle layers over it if I'm not doing a chrinolin? Or is this still reasonably fluffy?
There is a clip in the video where I show what it looks like without a crinoline. That will give you an idea
@@KirileeCosplay i saw it! I just wasn't sure about how much a lightish dress would weigh it down, but it looks like it'll be fluffy enough. Thank you!
If you use stiff tulle, it will be fine
This is a great tutorial 😍 could you also use organza? I have a bunch of it lying around and I would love to use it up 😅😊
Yes you can!
...this comment is already 1 year old...I still have that fabric around...I should really stop procrastinating...
…I’m starting that today…
i am never going to financially recover from halloween
But it will be fabulous!
Love the video, about how long did it take to make this please?
Not that long- maybe 3-5 hours
@@KirileeCosplay thanks
Ps love you shirt
You had me laughing at 5:20 😂
I’m glad!
My fabric store has both tulle and crinoline fabric…do you still figure that tulle is best for a petticoat?!
It depends on how stiff you want the petticoat to be
Can I make this style of petticoat into a shorter version?
Yes
So how many meters of fabric is this 😞😞😮💨9 or 16,5???
9
@@KirileeCosplay so how is the 1st section 2 meters 2nd=6m nd 3rd=18m😭😮💨😮💨I so want to make this it’s been 2 years since I saw the vid nd I still don’t get that part
so how is the 1st section 2 meters 2nd=6m nd 3rd=18m😭😮💨😮💨I so want to make this it’s been 2 years since I saw the vid nd I still don’t get that part
it is 3 times the length as the section above.
Hello, I love your petticoat but heard something wrong and cut off like 10 cm in length but how Can I fix this, I am 5.3 in height to let you know if its ok or not.. I am making this for my grad, even though I'm not getting a prom because of covid, please answer when you can.
Just sew it back on?
Can i use this adjustment but make it longer for a gown petticoat?
Yes! I’ve done that myself :)
@@KirileeCosplay so to be spesific, the top part is 2,5 meter, the middle part is 6 meter, and the bottom part is 18×2 = 36 meter? How does that add up though, you said you have 9 meter of fabric. Im so confused can you please help me?
It is 6 x 3= 18 meters.
I actually had some left over so i did an extra bottom section
@@KirileeCosplay so the total length for the botom part only, is 18 meter?
I just want to understand how long is the 1st section, the 2nd section nd the 3rd section so that in total it’s 9 meters
You had it correct in your other post
