Sometimes it feels very odd to see Claudia in videos. Not for any bad reasons, it's just funny to see you in what seems like a vintage wonderland, only for somebody in jeans and a hoodie (time traveller?) pop up. The contrast is certainly interesting haha.
It's so funny, I'm a costume designer and starting to dress more vintage and somehow I know more about Victorian fashion and further back in history than I know about vintage 20th century Haha! Thanks for the lovely video!
Jessica, I don't know if you have an interest in fashion that goes further back than the 50s, but if you do, you'd probably enjoy the RUclips channel prior attire. They have really interesting videos on clothing styles that date all the way back to the medieval period. It's pretty fascinating!
I just purchased a petticoat and haven’t worn it yet. Thank you for the tip for how to use the restroom while wearing one. Didn’t think about that one.
I have one petticoat that is actually vintage (If i'm not mistaken) it came from the grandma, who said she used to wear it when she was younger. My grandma also says "You'll always like whats in style until you get old, that's how young people work." Well I'll just be here wearing your clothes and shopping in your closet, alright grandma?...
My grandmother gifted my an old skirt from her mom. It's a red pencil skirt with HUGE POCKETS. Like seriously it's AMAZING. She adjusted it so it would fit me and I have loved it since the moment I put it on. :D She also gave me a bunch of belts for my dresses, they also had to be cut and adjusted but I really like them. So yeah, grandma's got some lit shit hanging in her closet.
Closed captions/subtitles coming soon! If you've enjoyed this video then please consider buying me a coffee because I definitely need one after dancing around in all of those petticoats! 😉 ko-fi.com/A1814A5T
that first point about 'no such thing as a cheap nice petticoat' good god. as a lolita my dream petti is OVER 100 DOLLARS and its made of voile... its genuinely the best petticoat for the shape of my dress.... im getting by woth a crinoline layered with a petticoat. otherwise it looks too flat for my side shoulders! edit: btw underskirts are great for tht cute frill at the bottom look! no need for a new expensive huge petti haha
I could definitely do that! Will probably have to wait until spring/summer though because flowers are so darn expensive right now 😂🙈 Claudia gave me the stocks in this video as a 'sorry you're feeling poorly' present because she is adorable
Unrelated, but I would love to hear the stories of yours and Claudio's engagement rings, they are so pretty and unique and I'm always really interested in them x
I have commented on another video explaining why I find you so admiring but just wanted to say again that you make me smile and I love your vintage videos
Oh the lampshade effect with short petticoats, the agony for tall people.... As you mentioned lolita fashion, I'd recommend Classical Puppets A-line pettis, they're ridiculously good quality for around 30-40€ and I find they go great under vintage dresses for those extra poofy days :)
I have two dresses that I would love to wear more, but one of them definitely calls for a petticoat. The skirt fabric is pretty thin, and I feel like having a petticoat underneath would make the outfit feel a little more...substantial. Thanks for the amazing tips!!!
I dry all my square dance petticoats by draping them over the bell shape of an umbrella (inside out). I store them hanging in tulle bags so that they can breathe and periodically remove, fluff and rebag them. When i want to wear one I place it in the dryer only long enough for it to warm thoroughly and then shake it until completely cooled. Many of my petticoats are vintage from the 50s, 60s and 80s and they are still beautiful and fluffy! Great video, thanks for sharing.
Jessica Kellgren-Fozard we are having a mom and daughter party the dress is fifties style we want a full effect where the petticoat sticks out a bit but full
Wow, watching from the U.S., and I am so shocked that tumble dryers aren't common in England! I feel blessed now. Btw, I just started watching these videos and I'm obsessed. You and Claudia are amazing and adorable and inspirational
I always mean to ask--for your off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, what strapless bras do you recommend? I too am quite busty and never bad good experiences here in the U.S. with them. Please help!!
I dont know about the strapless bras but I'm also from the us and can never find my size! Small ribcage and big cups dont seem to sell here. But I was in the UK this fall and bought some from debenhams, which is a ridiculously huge department store(it has an online shop and ships to the us!!!) That fit great and arent expensive!
I have the Curvy Kate Luxe strapless bra. It's available up to a J cup, and I don't just instantly squash it when I jump. They have them in bravissimo, but I got mine from the curvy kate website and it was true to size and fit perfectly when it arrived.
Not enough people talk about the bathroom tips, I gotta say. I struggled for the first few months of wearing pettis. There was a solid three weeks where I just didn't use the bathroom for 16 hours because I wasn't willing to wrestle with them in public restrooms. (the cubicles are teeny in America yo) I'm like 4 years in and I still don't feel like I've got all the skills I really need for functioning in petticoats. ... doesn't stop me from wearin the crap outta them though:P My most common problem: How the heck do you handle the embarrassment of having to pull your dress out from underneath someone who wasn't paying attention when they sat too close? because I constantly have people sitting on the edge of my skirts when I'm wearing petticoats. and I've been so mortified that I usually just sit really still and hope they get up before I need to leave. WHAT DO I DO?
penyginger Honestly I'd be more embarrassed to find out I was sitting on someone else's clothes and inconveniencing them, I'd feel even worse if they were too afraid to tell me . If someone sits on my dress or my coat I politely ask them to move. Just make it a joke and smile? "Excuse me, I'm so sorry to bother you but I'm stuck." If it makes you feel better, I've taken someone out with a bustle before because I forgot about the extra volume behind me!
I am in loove with the way Jessica says the word "petticoat" 😍😍😍 don't get me wrong, it just sounds so beautiful and so British, which I am definitely delighted in💌
I've been wearing a petticoat, which I presume was meant for a child but can't confirm because it was bought second hand, for about 12 years. It's the soft net type and has pretty good volume, and when worn with my cotton petticoat over top, makes using the toilet very difficult! What I've found very helpful is to wear a standard, straight-cut slip underneath. I do what you said in the video, flipping the skirt+petti combo up around my waist, then pull the slip up over it inside-out. This captures all the fluff in a tube and bam, hands free! If you're quick, you don't squish your petticoat or wrinkle your skirt. Anyhow, hopefully all that is helpful, and thank you for so many great tips and info! 💕
I love this video! I often wear petticoats, especially Grace Karin petticoats, with my Grace Karin dresses. I also love to wear square dance dresses which tend to be longer so I use different petticoats with them.
Thank you for the petticoat tips, it is just what the doctor ordered. I love the delightful personality. I just discovered your chanel and I enjoyed it.
I found an old Malco Modes petticoat in my mom's cedar closet. it was a small and soft one but I loved it so much, and i managed to convince her to get me a crinoline and a square dancing petticoat! I love wearing the crinoline with the old petticoat in a long, fit and flare dress. It's absolutely gorgeous, I wear it over my shift to keep from getting scratched but it looks so full!
I’ve been binge watching your videos since I discovered your channel about a week ago. Fantasized about moving to England because it looks so beautiful and great, then I learn few people have tumble dryers!? So sad. xoxo love to my British friends who are environmentally friendly and hanging/laying clothes flat to dry!
So many useful tips, thank you! I loved the explanations of the different petticoat styles in the beginning. Looks like A-line is the thing for me, at least concerning petticoats (I look like a short shapeless garden gnome when I put on an A-line dress).I just bought a new Lindy Bop skirt, so I will look for a fitting petticoat! can't wait to wear it!
Firstly.... I am THROUGHLY exhausted by the depth and breath of considerations for an undergarment. GOOD LORD! 😱 Moving on.... You are an awesome, beautiful, and inspiring person. So grateful to experience “you” via social media. Great work. If ever I start to think “What is the use in moving forward?, I can watch your videos, and the “Build a Ladder” YT videos of Martina Stawski of EatYourKimchi to remember. Thank you for being.
Love your channel and the way you speak is delightful. I plan to wear floor length dresses regularly and I was struggling to figure out the length that I'd need because I am petite and thin.
That was SO helpful, thank you! I bought a '50's swing dress for my daughter's Elvis-themed wedding in Las Vegas. It's a one-time thing for me but I don't want a costume, it needs to be authentic! I had no clue how get the full peek-a-boo petticoat look I want, but now I do, thanks to you!!
Thank you! I love watching your videos and adore your style. I used to be quite the tomboy but now I’m loving my new retro and very girly style. Also being pregnant these dresses are SO flattering over my bump!!
i just got a retro dress for a wedding and i wanted it to have that floof this video is just what the doctor ordered. and im not particularly into vintage and retro clothing but your voice is so lovely TToTT im just going to watch all your videos
Thank you for this video.. You’ve helped me no end. I bought a tea dress for a 50s themed wedding. I was unsure what petticoat to buy. Thank you for the advice .❤️💋👗
I finally found a petticoat on Ebay that is just the right amount of full and fluffy. It wasn't easy. Typically you have two choices; a thin half slip, or a petticoat so poofy you have trouble walking through doorways. 😆 I just wanted a little fluff, not cloud level fluff☁️. Next time, I am definitely going to make my own.
For those who are wondering what "later [?]" at 1:50 was, she said a cute Japanese street fashion style called "lolita" which uses petticoats. Which has NOTHING to do with the novel sharing the same name. Lolita most commonly uses bell shaped and a-line petticoats. ^^
I am so happy to have found you RUclips channel. I am a fan. Your videos are very interesting. I truly appreciate the time you take to share your life, opinions, and your love of vintage clothing. I am curious though, what sparked your interest in vintage fashion?
Lovely and informative. I love 50s dresses and plan to sew a few and would like to know which is the best petticoat to chose. It will be circular skirt all the way. Thx
I love it, and I love you! Great job explaining the passion for petticoats, the styles and care. Loved the RIP: Closet Space caption. I've run out of space.
I love my cheapo A-line. With how the waist is made, I can hike it up or shimmy it down to adjust the length for the dress without adding bulk to my waist, and it's not itchy.
Good morning Jessica. First of all, I apologize for my english, I'm foreigner. In this I'm living a sort of identity crise, I took courage and I decided to free my real me, and change the epoque. So I started reaching informations about how to compose my outfits. I'm going to sew my clothes and I need to understand how the petticoat is made: is it a "skirt" with a lot of layers or is a one layer "skirt" make with a huge amount of fabric? Thanks, and your channel is sunshine in my life!
Thank you for including Square Dance Petticoats 😂 Most people forget them but I always feel you can get them in a lot more variations than 'normal' vintage petticoats... The really short but really fluffy petticoats were worn (not anymore though) for Clogging because you needed to move you legs and a normal square dance petticoat would not allow that. At least that is what I have been told 🙈 Have you ever tried fitting three people with petticoats in the back of a car? 😂 Since I defenitly need a new petticoat, I will propably check the brands you recommend 😊 Thanks 😊
I know this is a old video but I just ran across it today, which I still find this video very refreshing and so sweet. I also like the idea did you know how to use sign language? It is so beautiful so other people can understand what you’re saying too, so I like to say, I did find some petticoats of a very decent price on Amazon and also too SHEIN! 🥰👩🏾🦲😍
I am finally going to be getting an actual petticoat. Up until now i've Literally just been using a tiered flouncy skirt that i bought at a garage sale. It worked surprisingly well but i think its high time i get an actual petticoat
Today I have yards of Italian cotton organdy and silk organza for my first ever petticoat design. And ribbon, lots of ribbon hand made from the organdy. I’m terrified to cut and excited! Not looking for fluff, but some lift… ❤️🌷
As an aspiring drag queen, I love your videos about petticoats and vintage dresses. I love to wear my Grace Karin vintage dresses with my Grace Karin petticoats under them...
I was considering buyinga petticoat for pastel goth loooks (idk why) so this video is great because i probably would've had so many issues withoutt this info
Very cute video and informative! I recently bought two petticoats from Malco Modes (one off eBay and one brand new). They are amazing and soft but yes a little pricey.
I'm loving this series on vintage clothing basics!! I'm not even into the vintage style myself (I have a friend who is, but her era's more 60s than 50s), you just look so darn good in everything :D
First off, I love your Chanel! It's amazing and super helpful in learning BSL, and secondly I'm in America and had no idea there were different kinds of dryers?? We only have tumble dry here in my town??
i do square dancing and would love to wear petticoats with some of my circle skirts on normal days but all i own rn is a massive silver dance Crinoline along with the ones my mom owns when she grew up dancing. i should really save up for and A line one.
Hi! This may be very basic, but how do you match the outfit components? (Shoes/petticoat/sweater/dress/tights) Would you share your knowledge about this? Thank you 😊
Can you please recommend me one? On the curvy side but almost out of plus size 😳 I love the A-line dress and is looking for a nice but not too fluffy petticoat. That helps the shape without being too much. Almost like an underskirt. As comfortable fabric as possible 🙏♥️ money isn’t the issue but finding one that doesn’t make me look like a big balloon is 😫
How do I know when to wear a petticoat and when to wear a slip? I haven't bought [or made] my dress yet. I want to be prepared to wear the right look... whatever that may be. Thank you. for this video. Do you have one where you're not swirling so I can see what the dresses look like with the various types of petticoats, please?
Can you show us how to hang pettocoats. You said I should hang it upside down to keep it floofy. Should I hang it on the tiptips of the bottom skirtline?
Sometimes it feels very odd to see Claudia in videos. Not for any bad reasons, it's just funny to see you in what seems like a vintage wonderland, only for somebody in jeans and a hoodie (time traveller?) pop up. The contrast is certainly interesting haha.
That's exactly what I thought, it looks really cute though
So true, and cute!
The fact that this video comes up the same day I'm about to buy my very first petticoat is just amazing :D
Wow! Delighted with my timing 😄
i have school tomorrow, it's 12 am and i have no intention in buying a petticoat in the near future, why am i doing this to myself?
Mara Verhoogt LOL always me
I'm 7 years late lol same and I have an exam tomorrow
It's so funny, I'm a costume designer and starting to dress more vintage and somehow I know more about Victorian fashion and further back in history than I know about vintage 20th century Haha! Thanks for the lovely video!
Katherine Hamar I'm exactly the same!

Jessica Kellgren-Fozard what did you say about Lolita! Lolita is beautiful x
Jessica Kellgren-Fozard I HAVE A TUMBLE DRYER!!!!
Jessica Kellgren-Fozard i love your voice it's so calming :)
some days i feel puffy any fluffy all over
that first point about 'no such thing as a cheap nice petticoat' good god. as a lolita my dream petti is OVER 100 DOLLARS and its made of voile... its genuinely the best petticoat for the shape of my dress.... im getting by woth a crinoline layered with a petticoat. otherwise it looks too flat for my side shoulders!

As a Lolita this is really really really helpful. All those layers can be really hot and it feels like I'm a cake being baked alive lol
Everyone needs atleast 1 good petticoat in their wardrobe to keep their dresses. FLUFFY. FLUFFFYYYYYYYYYYY WE NEEDS THE FLUFF!! 😂
Do you think you could do a video about your favourite fresh flowers? I love that arrangement in the background
I could definitely do that! Will probably have to wait until spring/summer though because flowers are so darn expensive right now 😂🙈
Claudia gave me the stocks in this video as a 'sorry you're feeling poorly' present because she is adorable
Jessica Kellgren-Fozard aww you two are the cutest
Unrelated, but I would love to hear the stories of yours and Claudio's engagement rings, they are so pretty and unique and I'm always really interested in them x
Ooh what an interesting idea! They're both vintage victorian rings and I love them so much 💗 We'll definitely do something focusing on them!
I have commented on another video explaining why I find you so admiring but just wanted to say again that you make me smile and I love your vintage videos
Received my very very first petticoat today, it's an a line and dark blue... it makes my dress looks so fluff and pretty
I'm a cosplayer and I want my skirts to be fluffier and so far this is the most helpful video I've seen!
You and Claudia are sooo cuuttee 😩💗
Aw, thank you 💕
Oh the lampshade effect with short petticoats, the agony for tall people....
As you mentioned lolita fashion, I'd recommend Classical Puppets A-line pettis, they're ridiculously good quality for around 30-40€ and I find they go great under vintage dresses for those extra poofy days :)
Ooh thank you for the tip! I LOVE many classic lolita styles so definitely going to have a little root around that corner of the internet now 😉
I have two dresses that I would love to wear more, but one of them definitely calls for a petticoat. The skirt fabric is pretty thin, and I feel like having a petticoat underneath would make the outfit feel a little more...substantial. Thanks for the amazing tips!!!

Thank you so much for this video I’m just starting to dress vintage so perfect timing!
Fabulous! Glad to be of service 😊
First I've heard, but then it's not a conversation one often has. I grew up with a washer/dryer so took it for granted... Until it broke
@@blueocean43 I second Curvy Kate!
I wear a lot of dresses. I am not planning on getting a petticoat but I am just here for Jessica who looks stunning always
Not enough people talk about the bathroom tips, I gotta say. I struggled for the first few months of wearing pettis. There was a solid three weeks where I just didn't use the bathroom for 16 hours because I wasn't willing to wrestle with them in public restrooms. (the cubicles are teeny in America yo) I'm like 4 years in and I still don't feel like I've got all the skills I really need for functioning in petticoats. ... doesn't stop me from wearin the crap outta them though:P

"Excuse me, I'm so sorry to bother you but I'm stuck."
If it makes you feel better, I've taken someone out with a bustle before because I forgot about the extra volume behind me!
"Excuse me, but you're sitting on my skirt"
I'm so in love with her accent and the way she talks to us
I am in loove with the way Jessica says the word "petticoat" 😍😍😍 don't get me wrong, it just sounds so beautiful and so British, which I am definitely delighted in💌

I read about you in the Guardian, now this! Wow, I am in awe; a fan, you could say! Keep on being fabulous! xxx
So glad I could help!
Thank you! I love watching your videos and adore your style. I used to be quite the tomboy but now I’m loving my new retro and very girly style. Also being pregnant these dresses are SO flattering over my bump!!
I will never wear a petticoat I'm sure, but you're so adorable I kept watching. :)
i just got a retro dress for a wedding and i wanted it to have that floof this video is just what the doctor ordered. and im not particularly into vintage and retro clothing but your voice is so lovely TToTT im just going to watch all your videos
Please do a styling video on what type of dresses to look for for layering on to of different types of petticoats!!!

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOU’RE SO PRETTY AND YOU SMILE MAKES ME SMILE OMGG
We are happy that you put us on your recommendations list! Much power & love to you! xoxo

I have two petticoats now. One from Grace Karen. It is so cute! I love the swishy sound and puffyness.
I literally just got up and flipped my crinoline inside out! I never would have thought to do that.
+Emily Gerdts yay! May it give you many more years of petticoat fluffiness!

The inside-out tip is so powerful :0
I love that i came here for tips on my petticoat and you're wearing the one I bought! Grace karen. It is a bit scratchy.
i got 2 'square dancing' petticoats that were 3 quid each and theyre actually surprisingly amazing quality!
Really helpful! I only have one petticoat. I made it and it's not very full, so I plan on making another soon. I'll keep this in mind!
Oh fab! I love a homemade petti 💞
Thank you for this and your other videos, it's difficult having to learn a whole new wardrobe in your 30s so any tips I can get are appreciated 😊
I have a tumble drier 😘👍and a few petticoats, so I’m certainly going to be trying out some of your tips...thanks so much....love your style ❤️
Thx
I appreciated the sign language! First video though so I’m looking forward to more 👀
thank you this give me lot think what to do about 50's wedding i am making , tea length aline- which one would best
Even tho I’m 6 years late I started making clothing and more skirt from the 50s now looking up petticoat and maybe make my own. ❤
as someone who wears lolita fashion, this was fascinating to watch-
9:59 I'm from England and my family have a tumble dryer,
but we never use it because my mum says it uses too much power
I love it, and I love you! Great job explaining the passion for petticoats, the styles and care. Loved the RIP: Closet Space caption. I've run out of space.
I so love to wear petticoats under a full skirt! One of my favorite looks when I dress as a woman!
I love my cheapo A-line. With how the waist is made, I can hike it up or shimmy it down to adjust the length for the dress without adding bulk to my waist, and it's not itchy.

I stumbled across this video researching victorian fashion for a fantasy setting. You are so elegant! I love this video
At least that is what I have been told 🙈

Since I defenitly need a new petticoat, I will propably check the brands you recommend 😊 Thanks 😊
Can you put a slip underneath to avoid the scratching?
Also tutus like being hung up upside down and inside out too. Soooo that makes sense.
I am finally going to be getting an actual petticoat. Up until now i've Literally just been using a tiered flouncy skirt that i bought at a garage sale. It worked surprisingly well but i think its high time i get an actual petticoat
Love the signing, please continue. Was totally interested.
Today I have yards of Italian cotton organdy and silk organza for my first ever petticoat design. And ribbon, lots of ribbon hand made from the organdy. I’m terrified to cut and excited! Not looking for fluff, but some lift… ❤️🌷
I'm so excited since I'm going to get my first petticoat next year :)
Absolutely brilliant! Cheers love! 🥰
I am learning classic ladies' styling. I hope you will do some videos on Kate Middleton inspired style.
As an aspiring drag queen, I love your videos about petticoats and vintage dresses. I love to wear my Grace Karin vintage dresses with my Grace Karin petticoats under them...
I’m not girly at all and I hate dresses but I just enjoy listening to her say petticoat.
Wonderfully entertaining and helpful! Bless
Haha had no idea what a peti coat was till you ...full on Tom girl here . Your simply stunning though so here I sit an watch .
I'm loving this series on vintage clothing basics!! I'm not even into the vintage style myself (I have a friend who is, but her era's more 60s than 50s), you just look so darn good in everything :D
Buying my first one today! Thanks for this tutorial!
I don't even wear skirts, let alone petticoats, but I still watched all the way through, just because it was Jessica!! :-D
I just bought my first petticoat, fingers crossed!
Wow your impressing me with sign language 🤟🏼 I really should learn the basics.
One of my nightmares about my lovely dresses as a kid were the itchy petticoats it took to make the skirts puffy. I loved the puff but hated the itch.
Do you have any advice on 1850 vintage style petticoats?
Where did you get that beautiful blue dress??
+Lauren Hughes it's Grace Karin! www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XXWWC7W
Yes, I need this video so bad
Can you show us how to hang pettocoats. You said I should hang it upside down to keep it floofy. Should I hang it on the tiptips of the bottom skirtline?
