Panels support the weight of the tulle layers better. When you cut big circles, part of them are on the bias and can drop with the weight of the tulle giving you an uneven hem.
I don't know sorry. It depends on how many layers you do and how far apart you space them. You'll need to measure the length of each of your layers and work it out.
Im hoping somebody sees this. I wanna make a tulle dress and i have been watching a lot of tutorials for a tulle skirt. I wanted to know if using this technique gives the same results as putting all the layers at tje same level on the waist and gathering them all together? Is this technique more puffy?
Hello : ) I am in love with this tutorial! I will definitely be using this for my victorian ballgown project. Just a few questions. What does the gathering of the tulle do? I couldn't really see on the video since the colors were so similar but wasn't sure if it was just so it would fit better. Also are you sewing the bottom of the tulle down to the bottom of the skirt or just leaving it be? And if I was to use the tulle as a crinoline and put another skirt overtop would that look normal or mess the whole thing up? Idk lol. Thank you so much
Hi Kiera, glad you found the tutorial helpful. Gathering the tulle creates the fullness. The tulle is just sewn at the top of each layer - the bottom isn't attached to the skirt underneath. Yes you can definitely use this method to create a crinoline. Just be aware that if the skirt you put over it is heavy it might lose some of the fullness. You can add some layers of a stiffer net underneath to help with that if necessary.
This is stunning! I'm just learning how to sew and after making tons of regular dresses I found that I really want to make a flowy layered dress with layers of sheer fabric. Not sure if you understand that explanation or not but I would like to make something like this but instead of tulle using a fabric that acts really flowy and is more elegant that tutu looking. And you know made to be worn on its own without overlayers. What would you recommend? thanks so much!
Hi, thank you so much for this tutorial, it is sooo helpful and very clear ! Do you think I can apply the same technique on a circle skirt with a train ?
Yes you can. It just makes cutting the lengths of tulle a bit trickier. I usually cut the back tulle pieces to the length of the train and front tulle pieces to the length of the front then trim the difference once it's gathered onto the skirt. Hope that makes sense.

You just cut the tulle at the centre back open to the length of the zip, turn under the edge, and stitch it next to the zip. You can see it in this video too, the only difference is that I sewed the zip in after the tulle layers for the dress and before I attached the tulle layers for this skirt. Hi! I have a question. Can we do the hemming first before attaching the tulle layers, or it will ruin the shape? I just thought it would be easier that way, but im not sure what’s the cons
I’m really glad I came across this video. I am making a tulle skirt now and I am wondering one thing. The top layers (close to the waistline) of the tulle, are they also cut in straight pieces of tulle or in round pieces (in the shape of the circle underskirt)? I hope to get an answer on this. Thank youu
They can be done either way. Hers was made and gathered in straight layers. If you will be adding some sort of trimmings or appliques to the edges of your tulle, the topmost layer could be cut in panels too or as a huge circle
Thank you so much for this video! Is the tulle you used more so a silky tulle, or a little bit stiff? Also, do you think this sort of skirt would work with a tulle that's not the softest?
I used a soft tulle, the kind that wedding veils are made from. If you're using a tulle that's a bit stiffer you may need less in each layer or less layers to achieve this amount of fullness.
So I was a bit confused when you were sewing the hem when you pulled it through. Were you sewing the hems of the petticoat and skirt together or am I confused?
I was sewing just the lining and outside fabric together at the hem to create a bag hem. The tulle layers remain separate. I explain how to do a bag hem in this video if it helps - ruclips.net/video/itjafKt_r2Y/видео.html
Hi, I'm a bit confused. So you have your fabric and your lining, and then you sewed your tulle to the right side of your outer fabric but then you put right sides together and sewed it to the lining? Is there any reason you cant sew your lining and outer fabric together first, then do the zipper then the tulle gathering? I'm sorry just looking for clarification
You can do it that way if you prefer. I keep the outer and lining layers separate while add the tulle because it's less fabric to handle while getting it all under the machine and it takes away the possibility of accidentally catching the lining as you sew the tulle layers on.
Would you mind sharing what is this method of construction called? With the sewn layers? Any time I look up other layered tulle skirts it is just stacked tulle. Thanks!
Hei, I have a question regarding placement. Did you match all the seams edges with the seam edges of the lining where the zipper is placed?, or did you just cut through the tulle so you get the opening where the zipper has been placed?. Thanks
Hi. I’d like to thank you for posting this, it’s very inspiring. I’m actually wedding planning for my self and for now we’re going for something with a lot of roses (I guess it’s romance then), our principal colours are burgundy and gold, but as complementary colours we’ll use some light pink, dark pink, fuchsia, red wine (let’s say a palette of pinks and reds). Because of your video and because of Angela Clayton’s video about the skirt of the Fairy Flower dress, I want to make my own wedding dress, all by myself (as long as possible - I’m a more than beginner sewer.). I’ll have the Fairy Flower part as top layer and train, but with tons of roses (using my palettes of reds and pinks, of course) and using the Fortuna Gown to make it a little puffy. What will happen if I use some chiffon (nylon tricot or mesh) instead of tulle ? And if I use some chiffon solid fabric instead of satin ? I may or may not come back to you later, but thanks a lot !
Rockstars and Royalty thanks. Finally I fell in love with a wedding dress and I bought it but, I may or may not make a floral top layer skirt to go with it. Thanks :)
Yes. It will give you a great shape to go under a dress. You many need to use some stiffer net for some of the bottom layers if the fabric of the dress is heavy so that it doesn't squash the shape of the petticoat though. Hope that helps 🙂
Hi there I love the tulle skirt. I’m looking to make one but I want it as a terra away to then reveal the rest of the dress that I’m wearing underneath any idea on how I would do that?
In the base layer fabric, leave an opening on the back about 9 inches long, and make the waistband a bit longer so you can add a clasp or tie it as a little bow. Leave the same opening on the top layers of tulle, their fullness will hide the opening.
I'm attempting to make a dress with a skirt like this but wanted to know, how would I attach the skirt and bodice to include a zip the goes from the skirt to the top of the bodice ? Thanks!

Amazing, thanks a lot
But how many yards of tulle in total can i use to achieve this?
The information about how much fabric I used is in the description.
@@RockstarsandRoyalty thanks alot
Would you mind sharing what is this method of construction called? With the sewn layers? Any time I look up other layered tulle skirts it is just stacked tulle. Thanks!
Hei, I have a question regarding placement. Did you match all the seams edges with the seam edges of the lining where the zipper is placed?, or did you just cut through the tulle so you get the opening where the zipper has been placed?. Thanks
You can do it either way
Will the second layer be 2 inches longer as in petticoat...that method I mean
I've not tried using chiffon or mesh instead. You'd be best to do a little test and see how if works. Your design sounds lovely. Have fun making it 🙂
Rockstars and Royalty thanks. Finally I fell in love with a wedding dress and I bought it but, I may or may not make a floral top layer skirt to go with it. Thanks :)
I just accepted a wedding dress project and you just saved my bacon
How many yard did she use???(for the lining and tulle)
Thanks for your advice 👍👍
Hey great video, do you remember how much lining you used?
I think it was about 4 yards, but yours might vary depending on the length and width of your panels and the width of the fabric.
im trying to sew a dress for school and i was wondering how many yards of fabric you used?
This is beautiful 😍
Hello! Can a use this but in a 3 year size?
I’m hoping to wear this to my next birthday cause I want it to be fairytale themed
I know the video is a bit old but can you use organza instead of tulle?
how many net used in this skirt??
15meter or more???
plzz rply
See the video description for time stamps which will take you to the part of the video where I talk about how much tulle I used.
Thank you so much 🤓 love from india💕💐💕
Hi, can I use the tulle method and just add it to the petticoat to make a full petticoat to go under a dress?
Yes. It will give you a great shape to go under a dress. You many need to use some stiffer net for some of the bottom layers if the fabric of the dress is heavy so that it doesn't squash the shape of the petticoat though. Hope that helps 🙂
@@RockstarsandRoyalty yes thank you! This helps a bunch!
You're welcome. Happy sewing ❤
Thanks!
Just stitch the tulle layers up where the the seam allowance for the zip starts, then put your zip in after the skirt and bodice are joined.
At what layer did you stop gathering the tulle and start just sewing the tulle together?
