Iβm so excited to be partnering with the almond farmers of California @growingalmonds to share an easy way to reduce food waste!
Protein Bars with Almond Pulp:
- 1 cup of almond pulp
- 1 cup of rolled oats
- 2 scoops of protein powder of choice (optional)
- ΒΌ cup of ground flax seeds
- 1 cup of creamy nut butter
- 1/4 cup of maple syrup
- 1/4 cup of almond milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of cinnamon
Additional / Topping ideas: Dried fruit, coconut shreds or chocolate chips!
Instructions:
1) Stir the maple syrup and flax seeds together and let sit for 5-10 minutes.
2) Add all of the other ingredients
3) Bake at 350 for 25 minutes, Slice, cool, and enjoy!
This zero waste recipe is inspired by the zero waste practices almond farmers use - beyond the kernels we eat, almond hulls, shells and trees themselves can be used in mushroom cultivation, soil amendments for crops and more.
California almond farmers have drastically reduced the amount of water used to grow almonds thanks to widespread adoption of microirrigation and research!
Theyβve already reduced water usage by 33% and theyβre on track to reduce it by another 20% by 2025.
