I was thinking the same thing. Guitar players typically like to play things exactly like the original. Nothing wrong with injecting a little originality into it.

He actually did something FAR cooler and did his own rendition of the Live Without a Net version. That's the making of a great Tribute Band in my opinion, And how you reach to the deeper level of the audience member, is by doing cool stuff like that that real genuine fans will remember.
Back in '80, I was in the Marines Corps. There was a band called Snowman that played at the E-Club (enlisted club). These guys dressed in all white, wig to shoe, never saw what they looked like out of form. Nerd Halen is a costume band with great talent. Like to see what they really look like
Just talking about them a month ago. While working at a rock radio station in L.A. they sent us a all white vinyl record. Called us and invited me to their show at The Roxy. Band started behind a white curtain with smoke rising. Went backstage after a really fun show and met them while taking off their makeup. Real nice guys!
This band looks like they should be playing Weezer songs lol. I'm pretty sure he was expecting the crowd to be wowed and start screaming and cheering when he busted out the fast repetitive lick at 1:16 lol even pulled off the dangling hand holding the pick with his middle finger fast strumming eddie technique. His tone sounds awesome. Dead ass crowd.
I use to catch these guys @ the Stone Balloon and the Logan House in Delaware.....Great times....I remember their cover of Elton Johns' cover of Funeral for a Friend-------->Love lies Bleeding. They nailed it.
Talk about a great time. These guys have the talent to pull off the Mighty Van Halen to a T but infuse a great sense of humor as well as a twist of originality to make this show a winner. Love the poke at the Pussycats...I'm sure Taime loved it too. These guys are pro. I'd like some original material from them!

Ah yes! I'm from the Jersey Shore...spent the glory days watching The Nerds, Big Orange Cone and the Benjamins playing the shore bar scene at places like Tradewinds and Joey Harrison's. Harrison's.These guys are very good, but The Nerds have covered VH plenty, as well as many others from the era. These guys are pretty good though.
I love how they screw up the timing on purpose it's hilarious. And they all look at each other in disgust like it's the other guys fault. The guitar player is hilarious !
Whenever you listen to someone try to cover Van Halen, you realize just how important the rhythm section was to that band! I’m not saying these guys are bad I’m just saying it doesn’t sound quite right
