Trying Harbor Freight Power Tools, Bauer Surface Conditioning Tool vs. The World!

  • The unthinkable has happened, I purchased a power tool from Harbor Freight. This goes against my long standing policy of never buying anything with moving parts from HFT. IT IS NOT MY FAULT. My tried and true tool brand, DeWalt, did not make what I was looking for. The only other options were specialty tool companies like Eastwood, and those were MUCH more expensive. I guess we are going to find out together, does the Bauer Surface Conditioning Tool hold up against its rivals like the Eastwood Contour, or does it even stand up as a power tool against DeWalt, Milwaukee, or Makita?

Hope you used that coupon that HF emailed out last week!
Great place to buy temporary tools!
Although I have some odd tools from HF that are decades old now.

I to have Harbor Freight tools for those twice a year projects. No case needed just re-box.

You stripped the screw because you didnt know it was a reverse thread budroe. Don't by a harder screw! better to strip a screw than strip the thread in an alum/mag casting huh? When only snug tight the drum will NEVER come off. Reason its reverse threaded. Had my Bauer SCT for 3 years and it's been a blessing saving me untold hours of stripping and SC. At 120 bucks buy 2 so you have a backup. Still saving $100 bucks from the DeWalt or Milwaukee.

“Hi, yes. I would like a gallon of paint. Can you color match this drill?”

@@ZeroToAwesome hahah🫠 the paint I’d send is solvent based, so that HF will turn into a big yella sticky bugger with wires sticking out. 🫥

Recently.... I'd say there is a lot of good at HF. I'd take one of their general tool boxes over craftsman, husky, or kobalt. Also, the ICON hand tools. Craftsman has gone to crap. I guess I'm hurt that they won't fix or take back my inch pound torque wrench that has been used like 4 times and sat in my box for years. HF is local and will swap tools like craftsman used to. Jacks.... I'd go there. Some of the use once to get the job done tools are good. If I was something I was planning to use daily or for work. Then extra cost is justified for sure. I have stripped a few reverse thread screws before. I would say that a simple "RT" near the arbor will do it for me. Sharpie or paint pin. No pretty, but functional.

I have a couple Husky tool boxes and the HF seem to be the same if not better quality. There are quite a few things I’ll go there for in the future, especially one of those 3 ton low profile jacks, but the power tools still give me a second thoughts.

@@ZeroToAwesome Me to. I have killed several heat guns, but did have good luck with an electric impact (old school plug in 1/2 inch one). It eventually died a fiery death at the hands of my brother for his dump trailer lugs. I gave it to him when I bought a compressor and large impact. We both beat on it though. It has since been replaced with a 1/2 Milwaukee M18 impact on his end. I want one of those now.
