New DeWalt 5-in-1 Power Tool is COMPLETE GARBAGE (and my weekend is ruined by disappointment).

  • I had high hopes for the new cordless 5-in-1 from Dewalt. Sure, it may not be 20 volt, but that wasn't going to stop me from giving this cordless beast a try. I was actually looking forward to this, and had no doubt in my mind this would be a great addition to my fleet of yellow tools. OH HOW I WAS WRONG! This puny little 12 volt toy is the biggest waste of money. I would rather buy some Harbor Freight bottom of the barrel corded drills before using this junk.
    Enjoy the video!

      Yep. Maybe learn about a tool's intended purpose and features before buying (and then deriding) it! The 5th "feature" is using the driver as a close-quarters drill with no head attached, It is NOT an impact driver, you CAN use the Jacob's chuck with the right-angle adapter, It WILL drill up to a 1" hole in lumber using a paddle bit... So much misinformation in this video!

    • @ZeroToAwesome
      @ZeroToAwesome  2 года назад +1

      Good idea, I do have a few of those lying around from some drill bit kits. Only problem I can think of is those are all pretty small, smaller than the hex shank itself. Usually I would use right angle drill to put holes between studs to run something like PEX or romex, I guess a small hole saw or spade but would work for that.

    You can use the tool with NO attachment for 1" bits, it has a 1/4" hex magnetic bit holder, that is tool #1. Right angle attachment is #2, offset attachment is #3, drill/driver is #4, and 1/4" hex quick release chuck for power bits is #5. I'm not sure if you were trying to be funny by saying it's only 4 or you really did not understand that.

      @thehhoff69 2 года назад +8

      @@ZeroToAwesome Which 2 are you referring to? The bare/no attachment 1/4" magnetic bit holder and the 1/4" quick release attachment? While they can perform similar functions, I wouldn't say they have the same functionality. The bare/no attachment is meant for the small 1" insert bits when you have very little room. Where as the quick release chuck is meant for longer power bits that you need to be locked into place, not just held by the magnet. They make power bit hex keys, drill bits, socket adapters, etc.. they're actually a crazy handy tool (all of them - DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, Festool), a lot of time they are called installation drivers, because they are used by cabinet installers and the like. It wasn't what you were expecting, I get that, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life thinking it is a failure. Ya feel me?

  • @bdm1000
    @bdm1000 Год назад +3

    I don't think you understand this tool. To begin with, the 5th (or 1st) tool is using the drill without a chuck. You can friction-fit a bit without any attachments to get into the tightest spaces. In other words, the drill/driver without a chuck is a functioning tool for which there are also four attachments (five configurations total). Second, it's not meant to replace the tools you compared. It's supposed to be smaller, lighter and less powerful. As a 12 volt, it's meant to be used as an installation drill/driver with less power for finer and more precise work (like cabinetry and furniture making). This is Dewalt's brushless version of the Festool CXS and TXS installation drill/drivers which are even less powerful by design than other drill/drivers within the Festool line).

  • @vader10308
    @vader10308 Год назад +2

    I hate contradict the disabled but the 5 in one is each of the 4 attachments, plus you can use it without any attachments, although it will not lock in the screwdriver bit. For if needing in tighter spaces. Also nothing about this tool says anything about it being an impact driver, it simply a drill driver.

    You can't be serious...
    This is Cabinet drill. It's not going to be as powerful as any of those other tools. You even mentioned you were aware of the Milwaukee version, which is literally called "installation driver."
    It's meant to be compact, low powered, get into hard to reach spaces, and drive Philips head and flat head screws without damaging them. Every brand has one of these things. You're driving frickin deck screws with no pilot hole. Maybe next you should pound some stakes in your backyard with your thumb, or put in drywall nails with an 8lb hammer.
    Also...
    It's okay to have 3, or 4, or maybe even 5 yellow tools in your shop, like a thickness planer or table saw, but you've clearly been led down a dark trail with all those shiny cordless tools.

    • @ZeroToAwesome

      Seriously, I completely agree this is a instillation tool. Especially after owning and using it. The problem I see is DeWalt does not market it as that. Go check out their own website advertising the tool and you see construction workers securing conduit and drilling into cement block. You wouldn’t kill a mosquito with a shotgun would you? Ideally? I do a lot of low voltage work and have the Milwaukee version. As I’ve read in other forums the tool can be used without any adapter so it is the 5th or 1st chuck you can use when you have to get into tight spaces. I’ve used the DeWalt and Bosch versions and all have their own pros and cons. A few of the biggest pros for me are weight and versatility. I still carry my 20v tools for power to drive lags, drill thru concrete and similar heavy duty functions but use my 12v with different chuck adapters when assembling network/AV racks. You can also use the keyless chuck, 1/4” collet (impact) chuck and offset together with the right angle chuck for some unique angles and tight space use. I guess it’s all a matter of how often you get to use all the tools functions.

      Nah that’s the future. I mount TVs professionally with an impact unless I need a hammer drill. Works great & isn’t as bulky. A lot of the battle for a self-employed contractor is carry weight. That's the main thing the guy didn't understand in this video. However, I agree we need a 20v brushless version like this from the big boys & not some old brushed Black & Decker as the only 20v option.

    8:29 - Milwaukee have 12/18v standard on their chargers, Makita offers some combi chargers but they dont come standard in kits that ive seen where I live at least. Same witch Bosch, they have a combi charger similar to Milwaukees, but i havent seen it in standard kits here. So pretty much all the 12v lines worth talking about have this :)
    11:30 - The attachment is called a screwdriver here, not impact driver. Same as the standalone non-impacting screwdrivers you can get ^^
    15:20 - yeah its not the same, but it does allow you to lay the drill flat which is very handy when screwing in a fastener at the back of a shelf or drawer without twisting your wrist in impossible angles
    Dont get me wrong, I get why its diappointing, I think they are gimmicky af and marketing wank too. But to be completely fair I do feel like this was poorly researched and had some unrealistic expectations for it, what these actually work for is assambling IKEA furniture and hanging pictures. They really arent a replacement for the dedicated tools.

    • @ZeroToAwesome
      @ZeroToAwesome  2 года назад

      The Milwaukee 12 and 18 volt batteries are different shapes, right? So they have a combo charger with one spot for 12 and another for 18. I like that a DeWalt charger with once slot will charge a 12, 20 and 60 volt battery pack. Not too familiar with the Bosch and Makita setups, will need to take another look at those.

    • @kvernesdotten
      @kvernesdotten 2 года назад

      @@ZeroToAwesome Yes, both Milwaukee and Bosch run the stick-batteries that go into the handle, both have combi chargers that take both. The odd one is Makita, they have slide-in batteries for both 18v and 12v but still have 2 different slots in their combi charger. As far as I know, none of them can actually charge a 12 and 18v at the same time though, at least the Milwaukee one just finishes one before moving on to the next one. A single slot is for sure more elegant, but in practical terms you'd still just have 1 charger out for what its worth!
