RE4 Spaniard enemies: IGN 👍
RE5 African enemies: IGN 👎
I am from spain. Nobody here was offended by killing Spaniards in Resident Evil 4.

lmfao that's the most idiotic thing IGN will said if they said that.
Which is even funnier because the "zombie" word and myth came from African cultures

Yeah thats pretty racist for IGN to think that.
As an African, when I played the game it reminded me of places I know. This was my introduction to the entire Resident Evil franchise. Me and my brother loved playing this game

Respect for being a good and compassionate human being. And I’m happy that you have fond memories with siblings that’s also a great feeling 👍🔥
Sorry, but your opinion doesn't matter. You have to listen to the white, Californian hipsters working at IGN. They know what's best for you!

But lets be realistic. If there were any place on the planet where a zombie-like outbreak would likely be, it would be either Africa or China. Ebola pretty much only exists in Africa. Ebola is fukky.

I believe IGN was woke before it was cool, no?
I like that for the position IGN has, they absolutely HAVE to just ignore the fact that Chris and Sheva got there too late and the outbreak was well underway long before they arrived, which is why Chris got sent there in the first place. The scene where the announcer infects a guy with Uroboros is supposed to show how the local population is already infected and controlled by the parasite AND how they deal with the uninfected, which explains the reaction of people at the beginning when Chris gets too close.
I personally loved Resident Evil 5. The people saying it lacks in horror elements never got to the African swamp section cause those Infected Crocodiles absolutely had me reeling anytime I was exploring for the BSAA Emblems. ❤️
Also the lab with the Lickers. And the first encounter with the Reapers.
I get your point but two bits in the entire game plus the lickers is not what horror means. They went with action for 2 games, I hated it and they stopped finally.
@@BygoneTaside from from re 5 and 6 8 is also least scary re game yet no one hates it
In fact its even worse than re 5 because re 5 was atleast about zombies
After playing the RE2 remake, I understand why people didn’t like this game. To me, it’s totally stripped of the horror. That being said, I still had a lot of fun playing this game with my friends. I would love to see this game remade.
Alligators/Crocodiles in games don't scare me.
Now if RE5 had a section where you swim underwater with a bunch of sharks I might have been terrified lol
Depending on the game, sharks are the most terrifying thing for me.
They don't scare me in Tomb Raider Underworld but they absolutely terrify me in Far Cry games.
I stopped really caring after the narrator said that “the Africans were showing aggression before they were infected.” They were infected the whole time, you just didn’t know it yet. That was the WHOLE POINT of the intro of the game. Same as the rug pull from RE4 when the first villager attacks you.
Goes to show how much they actually paid attention to the game. They're so focused on race and identity they can't see that they're the racists.
IGN: let’s go complain about that resident evil 5 game without knowing the game at all
5 and 6 had the dumbest and most cringe worthy story telling in the whole series. Would love Capcom to just redo both games with brand new story telling and even new settings. Never liked the Africa setting. Just didn't feel right. Go to Tokyo or something. Get back to the city and slow things down bringing it back to horror over just another generic third person action shooter.
@@NeutralGloomBothow would that be a remake, it sounds like you want them to just make a new game and call it RE5
Exactly
It takes a racist to find racism where there is none.
Remember people have been killing White people in games way more than they killed any other race.
should this counted as a Racism as well?
So true nowadays.

I lived almost 3 years in Zambia, Lusaka. Went to school and everything (I was 10 years old when we moved to the U.S.) I spent 4 years prior in Tanzania, Mbeya. I'm originally from South Africa btw. I'm 25 now and I remember in 2022 how far Africa has come but I still see so many areas that look like RE5 but less exaggerated of course. However, there are so many towns and cities that have boomed from industry, I think mainly from Chinese investors, as the Canadian/ European companies have been dipping out lately
Just to say, nobody in Africa sees this as racist. If skin color is such an issue, then why don't they just go ahead and make the player character have a few tones darker in skin. Rewrite that, and we won't care but it will give them a lot to think about 😮💨🙄
I remember being in middle school, maybe 6th grade. one day we had a substitute teacher that singled out the only black kid we had in class and told us we shouldn't treat him any different and we cant chose who we are when we're born like he was disabled or something. before that day nobody did treat him different. I never once thought about the fact that he was black. it never crossed by mind. after that day I noticed many people treated him different and pretty much walked on egg shells around him which obviously made him uncomfortable. the whole dynamic changed after that day. her doing that pretty much created the thing she didn't want to happen.

RE5 massive selling point was the Coop. The game has a higher level of action than previous games because it was Chris and his partner sent to find out what was going on and respond appropriately. There weren't targets to escort and this is 5 games deep with us being VERY aware of what the Umbrella corporation is all about and what they do. It's supposed to more action packed because you are investigating and taking down a bio weapons manufacture at this point not playing chaperone to the presidents kid or trying to escape chaos that has unfolded around you.
Like 80% of the bosses are experimental BoWs that Umbrella had every intent of deploying!

Well, to be fair, Sheva is light brown and not black. And considering 80% of Africa is black and just ~8% are colored, it does kind of raise questions. I loved OG RE 5. But I did play it before I started to play horror games. So the action being dialed up didn't bug me. I started playing horror games in 2014 and started to love horror games. Even playing RE 5 in 2022, I still thought it was great. When they remake it, I hope they make it a lot closer to survival horror !!
People forget that STARS were special forces. It makes sense for some of the games to be action oriented. US SOCOM doesn't drop into hot areas with a knife and a pistol with a single mag just for funzies. The whole series bounces around between different points of view, they can keep making some games more action based when it's a special forces protagonist, or slower horror based when it's a different character.
You can literally see in the notes left throughout the game that the parasite MADE the villager regress into savages, just like it did in Spain
Yes, if anything, it made one empathetic because they're unfortunate victims of an evil corporations experiments. Just like so many others; just like Lisa Trevor.
That would imply people know how to read lmao
But, but, but muh racism narrative!
lol so the parasite is cannon in the real life lore.
@@StarGazerTom1991 that's a good point. I actually felt more empathy towards the victims from RE5 than the victims from RE4. In RE5 the first introduction of the infected shows a scene where 2 infected forcefully make a villiger swallow the uroboros - probably one of RE5's more memorable scenes apart from boulder punching. RE4s first encounter is a guy that is already infected, so you see them all as monsters from the very start unlike RE5.

The African enemies is probably the less to be concerned about RE5 lol.

I would love to play it again.
Funny enough RE5 is one of my favorites in the series especially because of the co-op. It was so fun just beating the game and then coming back to find all the weapons and secrets to unlock cool things. It was fun and I enjoyed it. I do love the other games as well, but this one will always have a especial spot in my heart for those reasons.
Crazy that I’ve played through RE5 with my cousin countless times and never thought “wow this is racist” just “Africa’s dope let’s shoot some zombie things”
Not that crazy, I did the same. Just like I made my character in Starfield without thinking "wow this is clearly liberal propaganda."
The only crazy thing to me is knowing how adept Asmon's audience is at making huge logical leaps in order to sniff out agendas, they can't figure out why a white guy mowing down waves of black people could be construed as racist. As there are way less dots to connect than typical conspiracies they come up with.
I was in 5th grade and I can say I never even thought about the people being black once. Was just a zombie game to me.

Yeah the Las Plagas parasite makes you violent even before being fully infected. Remember that Leon in original RE4 tried to choke Ada before he got the parasite removed and he wasnt fully turned. Also we are putting the infected out of their misery by gunning them down. Once the Las Plagas in re4 and re5 fully takes over the host consciousness is basically gone with the parasite being in control.
There was a journal in re5 about a child gets infected. Hes tracking his situation from the moment he gets infected. I think its on the tribal level. He ended his journal by saying hes hungry and want to kill.

They weren't violent before their infection. It's even explained by in-game documents that the people were normal before they were infected and then their minds begin to degrade with the infection and they go crazy and regress to primitive shit that they normally wear for hystoric festivals.
kinda like Las Plagas and that town in spain.
you can gradually see the villagers becoming more deranged and unhinged as time goes on, eventually going into full lunatic mode and cult following.
Granted, there's plenty of primitive and also very corrupt places in Africa, so seeing a small town like the intro, already infected but not hostile yet (even though they definitely give off the vibe that they can turn on you at any second) is quite accurate.
what's the problem with them being depicted violent, some tribes / people are, some are not. And this definitely applies to Africa and other parts of the world like Papua New Guinea. Tribes are literally still killing each other, and those "shamans" or whatever in the game that play with human bones and so on also exist. White people and albino Africans, albinos especially, get hunted and killed for shamanism today. There are civil areas and there are not like in most places. And i have been there. My uncle married an African woman, and we have been visiting once. She had a textile production and had to be around armed men at all time. We had an enclosed area with gunmen around and this was not a hightec facility.

Remember the day they said that RE2 remake is a very short game without them finishing the game and the 2nd run? Yeah....
Link bro? Love RE2R on the PS4 back in March 2020! Amazing!
Just FYI: RE5 (2009) was the best selling Capcom game before Moster Hunter World (2018) so saying that such a commercial bestseller can't be remade is simply ridiculous.
RE 4 literally showed that the parasites will eventually devolve people into psychopathic cultists that adorn themselves in robes and colored fabrics to determine their ranks and devotion to the parasite, why is it THAT surprising to people that RE 5 does the same thing but replaces the robes with ceremonial outfits
It's even in the games lore. Way back before the Umbrella founders discovered the plant that houses the Progenitor Virus, the locals were using the plant for their rituals especially towards rites of passage ceremonies. We could see that from the tribal village section and the ancient temple section of the game.

Fun fact, she wasn't suppose to be n the game at first, she was literally added because idiots cried racism even back then.

I find it funny because if the game was never set in Africa then you’d have people complaining about that. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. At that time the development of Sheva was not even done, and they had started developing that character, and I have all the notes to prove it, from early 2007, but you know Chris Redfield is an established character; they already know what he’s about. So by the time I came in September 2007 they still weren’t done with how she was going to look, she was still being created so there was no way of being done by that E3. Unfortunately when people didn’t see anything but Chris in Africa I guess it had a reaction that was not totally all the way positive. She wasn’t an afterthought. This is a co-op game, it takes a lot more time to just whip that together. It seems a little bit ridiculous to just do that as a type of reaction and say all of a sudden yeah let’s make it co-op."
Capcom needs to stop listening to these activists writing hit pieces. They should know that the fanbase and customer base stands with them. Let these fools write their senseless gaslighting articles and scream into the void where no one will listen. Then Capcom can blacklist them and allow independent youtubers review their games and spread through word of mouth instead of being beholden to these “reputable” game news sites to spread the word. The fact that the ign video was ratiod into oblivion is proof enough that ign and their ilk will not be tolerated by the player base.
And Josh.
@@carljohan9265 at least back then it wasnt quite so bad... plus her r34 aint bad
I thought there was a thunderstorm outside... But it was problably the sound of every African gamer facepalming at once when the video reached that point where the IGN dude complains about African zombies.
They only change how Ada Wong betrayed Wesker at the end of re4
Bro your thumbnail scared me so bad my soul left my body 😭
15:24 they literally neglected the fact that Sheva Alomar IS ALSO the protagonist of RE5. The fact that you get a Game Over screen when she dies cements that fact. Sheva and Chris are partners there. It's not like after beating Wesker and Jill, Sheva gets replaced. It did not work like that.
Sheva is really underrated aswell, she is a great character and a nice addition to the RE universes badass female protagonists. She needs a rewrite and better lines though just like Ashley needed, and if capcom can make me love Ashley, then they can easily make a decent character like Sheva amazing. I spit put my drink when i heard them say "It needs a black protagOnIST!"
@@DamArt-e"Chris! Chris! Over here! Chris! Over here! Chris! Chris!" 😂
Of course you get a game over screen. Because you, or your friend are playing as her. That's why people didn't mind the new gameplay style, co-op.
@@DamArt-e I did like Sheva, its a shame that she, Carlos, and Hunk never got to show up in other games of the series. Would definitely like to play as them in a spinoff.
@@gromdan1332 also we need closure for Carlos' story. For sure Sheva may have joined Chris' Wolfhound squad in RE9, though that is unlikely to be confirmed by Capcom. But for Carlos, we barely had any idea as to what happened to him after RE3.
If Chris isn't punching boulders at dense crowds of majini enemies and making them run away Indiana Jones style in the remake I'll be very upset.
I feel like the vast majority of us would be.
Re5 remake this time more boulder punching!
i loved resident evil 5 exactly for the fact that my buddy and I would just gun down everything. I'm anticipating the return of boulder punch Redfield, and i hope they bring that back if they do in fact make a true RE5 remake and not just completely retconning the whole thing.
What a shame, I had so much fun playing RE5 with my friends as a rails/competitive clear kind of game. It was a nice dpearture from the OG RE experience.
I just want to fight wesker again man and hear that iconic line “ Seven minutes, seven minutes is all I can spare to play with you” in that new wesker voice actor voice.
Same but with mod for original voice
@@teotof that would be cool as well although I do like new wesker and can’t wait to see how he performs in re5

Resident Evil 5 already has a black protagonist, right there, fighting alongside Chris, and she was BADASS
No she was not. she’s literally one of the worst programmed companions in a video games her AI was so fucking bad that she would actively worsen ad make your gameplay harder if you were playing solo
@@sond.lollipop8919 I'm not talking about her AI, I'm talking about her character
@@sond.lollipop8919 Your criticism can be said about Chris. Did you know you can play as either character?

who else here, shat themselves more playing Re5?
the chainsaw majini area where its the factory and shit, and you know that you have to deal with 2-3 of them is so scary. i stood at the start of that area for like 10 minutes before deciding to continue, and when i went in i knew that i had to do what had to be done. and it took a few tries to do it.

Edit: i have only ever been afraid playing mostly Re5, kinda re123, but 6-7 werent very scary. mostly creepy
Infinite ammo machine gun and a lightsaber you say?,RE Village is what you're looking for my good sir.
15:00 "perhaps with a black protagonist."
Wow. Its almost as if in RE5, one of the main characters isnt a black African woman. 🤯
sheva is not a main character, shes a protagonist, you literally play as her.
@@ungface it's as if you can't read this as sarcasm. I have played RE5 I know what Sheva is in game.
@@ungface My guy she is STILL a crucial part of your team story wise and gameplay wise (for co-op at least). I know from experience playing the game through and through with my bro.
I love how the IGN guy said "maybe it'd be better if the remake had a black protagonist" while focusing on Sheva.... The black co-protagonist of the game
Irony peak 😂😂😂
I knew it was gonna be like this. It was like this back when 5 initially dropped too. The voice actors literally did interviews addressing the controversy. There was no issue with Leon shooting up infected Spaniards though right? Honestly I know the Resi 5 Remake is next but I really wish they'd do Code Veronica as well. 5 makes much more sense with that game before it. No one is gonna know why Wesker is suddenly back and why he's hitting Matrix moves on everyone.
As a person that played this game as a little kid and really wants re5 remake i have never ever though hmm its kinda weird that were shooting these zombies like bro i was just having fun playing the first re game ive ever played with my dad literally just being a normal person
If they remove Chris punching rhe rock that it's definitely not RE5
Considering how much more serious the remakes are, I can't imagine them leaving it in. The only thing they're more concerned about than offending people on Twitter, is comedy.
Then that remake is not for me
The boulder should be an unlockable character scenario a la Hunk and Tofu.
I don't think they will remove it, it is like if they had removed Leon's bingo phrase in RE4 remake. XD
@@nai3346 I mean, in RE8 one of the bosses named Chris as "boulder punching asshole". It's not a question about "will that scene be in remake", but about how they gonna remade that scene
Remember folks, Capcom conceived Sheva late into RE5’s development because the journalists even back then were obsessed with bitching about racism. They weren’t satisfied then, they’re not satisfied now. And I like Sheva and would like to see her come back.
It makes sense that they give Chris a partner that native to the area, can you imagine if he just randomly wandered around being like "WHERE THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSE TO GO?!"
@@DarkDyllon To be fair yes Sheva did work out for the best from a story standpoint (forced co-op and bad AI notwithstanding).
@@alexkogan9755 TBF it wasn't exclusive to Sheva, a lot of Resident Evil protagonists are pretty paper thin in terms of personality. I think Sheva and Helena are a lot alike; great design, but very little personality.
Not true, Sheva was always going to be in the game, she just would've had the role Josh does in the RE5 we got.
@@SeruraRenge11 makes sense.
This game was fantastic to play with the PS move controller and joy stick. Way better than using a controller. I really hope they end up bringing this to VR as well. RE8 and RE4 Vr modes were so good
I heard from my friends that I should play Resident Evil and I promised that I'd play the latest game (which was Veronica at the time) but about 3 weeks later Resident Evil 4 was announced and I went for that instead. After finishing RE4, it made me think "I should go back and play the previous games now, that was fucking awesome!" Literally made me a fan with one game. I've never played 5 or 6.
I just bought RE5 for $4.99 yesterday on steam. It’s a fun game
RE5 is the reason we got RE6… They need to stick to survival horror imo but, as much as I hate to admit it, yeah RE5 was fun and the mercenaries mode was dope af
@@cmoney163 very good couch co-op
I tried playing RE5 but the gameplay/ movement mechanics were so dogshit I couldn't get into it. However, Re6 was much better in comparison.
no RE4 is the reason u got RE5 and RE6 both those games are a by product of the devs thinking MORE ACTION = GOOD.
RE6 is the end result of when they completely threw out any atmosphere and narrative for maximum micheal bay bollywood levels action.@@cmoney163
For sure. But they really jumped the shark on the story.
The real zombies were the journalists we met along the way.

Res 5 is the pinnacle of couch co op that and army of two
He wants to kill thousands of zombies with guns and a lightsaber. Thats fucking dead rising
As a physician I recall IGN give this game a 9 out of 10 when it was originally released. and it's not like it was released back in the 50s or something when it was just a "different time' it was released during a period when America was voting in a two term black president 🤣
Blacks in America are not Africans. If we wish to consider them that then people better quit calling my Irish heritage simply "White". Double standard shit everywhere.
LMAO good point hadn’t even realized that
Why did you start off your comment with "As a physician"? If you are a physician, what does this have to do with your ability to remember IGN giving RE5 a 9 out of 10 when it was originally released?

Maybe so but people who have finished the original 4 games and code veronica will understand why RE5 is a bad Residentevil game.
@@resiefan3258 Oh for sure, it went a tad too much on the 3rd person action game and far less on the horror theme of the predecessors.
@@resiefan3258And thats precisely why I liked it. Also, it's the highest selling Resident Evil game ironically.
