      Honestly i do see why they made adas campaign unlocked from the get go, think about it, you played through Leon and Chris's campaign then you went through jakes replaying a ton of set pieces and after that you're rewarded with even more replayed set pieces. yes Ada's campaign was originally meant to be the concluding chapterof the game and for a while after release was the only campaign that wasnt co-op until capcom added agent as a co-op only partner.
      honestly i can agree with J on the game reusing set pieces where your brain goes on autopilot during the last campaign. I will say that i did like the combat in this as it felt the most free flowing form of combat in the series thats not just pulling a trigger

    The one bright spot I'll give this title is how experimental Capcom had gotten with multiplayer components. This game's multiplayer is like a weird combination of Outbreak, Left 4 Dead & RE5. I loved how you could invade others game, THAT added a much needed horror element to an otherwise laughably non-horror title. Also, special shout out to the converging stories, with brief moments of 4 player co-op. I hope more games do this in the future.

    I just played through RE6 with a friend a week back, and, honestly, it was a blast... Well, save for Ada campaign, which we gave up on because playing as the Agent is Not fun. We went into it knowing it wasn't going to be anything groundbreaking, but we were pleasantly surprised by the gameplay being genuinely fun and enjoying some of the story beats and character dynamics (especially Jake and Sherry). At first, we were just goofing around, but there were definitely moments that made us shut up and get completely invested, like the first time we saw the Chris and Jake confrontation or the end of Chris' campaign.
    It's really fun if you don't take it seriously and see it as a huge teaching moment for Capcom. I honestly think without RE6, they wouldn't be in the place they are today, and while I think the hate at the time was understandable for putting RE in such a weird place that was following trends of the era rather than making them, as they did in the past and present, in retrospect I do think it's a really decent co-op game that has its flaws, but isn't the greatest sin imaginable. Not even the greatest sin from Capcom, looking at Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
    You definitely have to laugh at the jank, but it's absolutely not built for solo play (at least, not the first three routes). It's probably a 3/10 solo, but I'd put it 7-8/10 as co-op. It's probably partly low standards, as co-op tends to not have many good options on console, but it was still so fun.
    Don't get me wrong, I've played almost every mainline game (save for OG1 and Village, which I'm going to get to both very soon!), and it's definitely the weakest in that regard, but it's surrounded by masterpieces.

      I played Resident Evil 6 in its native generation. I have to give the solo campaign a B- and the Mercenaries an A. I only got to play multiplayer with my brother through couch co-op. I would say it adds something to the game playing with another person. I am just not sure what to rate it as. Definitely not a full rank added. There was a time I used to say Resident Evil 2 was the worst of the numbered entries. At that time the series was up to 6. I would backpedal or just end the conversation. The original Resident Evil 2 holds up differently, depending on what tier list I use. I have two separate metrics. Under metric #1 it does poorly only beating non-numbered titles. Under metric #2 it is a solid B+. I just decided to play Resident Evil 6 today for the first time in several years. Multiplayer was surprisingly easy to find a game. Though, people only stuck around for roughly 2 levels. Mercenaries were completely dead trying to find a match. Which is a shame, because in my opinion it is the best Mercenaries out of 4, 5, and 6. I would say the best Fortnite side game is better than today's experience with the game. Hopefully playing tomorrow will be more fun than today.

    I have never known a more devisive game than RE6 (or at least one that I've played). For almost everyone it falls into one of two camps: either so bad that they couldn't makit it through more than 1 campaign (usually Leon:s) and those that do force themselves to do so and they hate it... or those that absolutely love the game and still play it occasionally to this day. I fall in the latter camp, I love to play the game. I feel its peak Resident Evil when it comes to cheesy-ness and over-the-top nature of the general stories. I love the co-op, it has in my opinion and many of those i talk to one of the best shooter gameplay mechanics, and i love there story and all the monster varieties. I also feel its one of the worst when it comes to RE-staples like survival horror tropes (as it really isn't a survival horror game anymore, just action with horror elements/inspirations)
    Its also why i feel conflicted about the following game, RE7. Cause for RE7, CApcom decided to make the exact opposite of RE6, but in doing so i feel like they made a fantastic survival horror game but not a good Resident Evil game as RE7 left out many things that Resident Evil is. I feel like Resident Evil at its best is a combination of cheesy/charmy story/dialogue combined with survival horror elements (such as inventory management, limited ammo and healing), diverse enemy variety, charismatic/lovable/iconic characters, and a few other elements (like music, atmosphere, a blend of action and horror, etc)
    RE6 was half of these, RE7 was the other half, and I feel like RE4 remake was the only RE game since that held the perfect blend of all these elements.
    Edit: I also feel like people's opinion on RE6 can sometimes depend on your mindset going into the game and whether or not your playing it co-op with someone who likes/dislikes the game (also there's so much you can do wit the controls, but also so much the game doesn't tell you you can do so almost everybody I've seen play RE6 never uses the controls to anywhere near their full potential, making the game much more annoying and harder on themselves)

      I 100% agree with you, and I'm a lover of RE6 myself. I think Resident Evil is about fighting bioweapons first and foremost, and that can be done with horror or action. Yeah from what I've seen of RE7 I'm disappointed that it seems so "western" if that makes sense. I say that because my favorite thing about RE is how fun, outlandish, and goofy the characters and story are while still being charming. Like when the franchise was still written by Japanese writers I thought it was amazing, hence my love for RE6. I've got a video over my admiration for RE6 if you want to check it out.

      Oh as I person who was playing RE6 just today I can 100% vouch for the excessive ammo problem. Even in the hardest game modes the fact that the enemy’s drop ammo combined with the efficiency of melee combat and the constant hordes make ammo incredibly easy to farm.
      Even when you arnt trying to farm it the sheer amount of enemies your killing mean that if you don’t use your ammo fast enough it will begin to clog your inventory, especially since the game gives you limited inventory space.
      I can however see how ammo might be an issue for someone not used to the survival horror genre, a person who solves every problem with their gun as the first option, for these people ammo might not spawn fast enough to keep up with this consumption leading to an issue of not enough ammo.
      For those that are used to survival horror and instinctively conserve their ammo through either melee combat or conservative aiming the amount of ammo is too high.
      So it’s essentially the worst of both worlds

    I totally get why this game is so hated, and a lot of the criticisms are earned, but I personally have put so many hours into this game, and it does have a very passionate but niche following.
    This is not a brag, but anecdotally, I went to PAX in 2019 and they had a booth at the Capcom side that had the new switch ports of RE 5&6 (weirdly not 4, though that was included in the release) There were some people, including myself that got in line to play the demo for 5, which as memory serves was that iconic tense defense of the town square from the opening segments, but no one was playing 6.
    I was waiting for my friends so we could check out MH Iceborne, but I had time to kill, so I went to RE6. There was no line. It was the second level of Chris's campaign. I played the snot out of that, over and over over all three days of the convention, because people were watching me. The Capcom reps at the booth were talking to me. I played as either character. I speedran it. Played it on No Hope. Played it knife/melee only. People were enthused and asked to co-op with me. This game has such stylish action, and I showed people who'd previously wrote the game off all the cool tech this game has. I feel like I single handedly swayed some groups into playing this game and perhaps purchasing it that weekend.
    I really admire what you do J, and I respect all your opinions, negative and positive, because they're very well thought out. And perhaps I wrote this, though not many will read it because I love this franchise and am dedicated to every era of it, including this one. I dabble in writing and analysis. During 2020, I wrote a several page breakdown on why this game is great, but I never had the courage to share it or do what you do. But maybe, just maybe venting this will bring me some peace.😅
    Either way, great content as always. Thank you very much.

    I still occasionally go back to RE6. Mainly the extra modes and only ever on coop. The game has a ton of depth. The main problem is the game does not teach the player 70% of their options. Capcom created something incredible with 6 in terms of gameplay. ...Only again, they didn't try teaching players their options. Like at 4:41 when you got hit, you could've held L2 and rolled to the left or right. And, in some cases similar to like a fighting game, you have the ability to tech roll to get up immediately or roll to the side upon landing.
    There's so many options in mobility and so many tricks in combat you can do that characters like Leon, Ada and Jill have always been shown to be very capable of in cutscenes. Personally, I prefer 6's controls because its accurate to who we're playing as. In RE5 when you want to dodge a slow charging attack from an enemy, Chris has to awkwardly run at angle or rely on a QTE. RE6 made it actually feel like you're playing as Leon/Chris. Now, if these were rookies, I'd agree all the mobility/combat options are silly. But, can't when we've constantly seen Leon and Jill leaping out of harms way with ease.
    Of course knowing all the controls don't erase the late game action set pieces that are a pain to replay (the vehicles). I definitely agree with you there. I liked the comparison you made to how Uncharted handled it's pacing. I do think RE5 and RE4R still feel good to play, but going back not a fan of those moments where I know I shouldn't have gotten hit or died because they made the character stiff on purpose (or made dodging be a QTE popup). Honestly, I think it'd be a good idea if Capcom gave players the option to limit their control if the player wants to. So if you want to be able to dodge and have more dynamic mobility like you're really playing as an "experienced" Leon, you can. Or if you'd really like to, you can turn off manual dodging and use QTEs (RE5/RE4R).

    A couple of years ago me and my best friend decided to play the Leon campaign and it was definitely quite funny, the difference of me never getting hit because of the muscle memory I've built up, and my friend who never played RE6 before and kept dying. Something I desire if they were to remake it someday. Get rid of the 4 Campaigns and just give 3 good long ones.
    Merge the Leon and Ada Campaign and bring them together again as they were in Re2make. Make the Chris Campaign less into a purely action based shooter and focus more on defeating BOWs Creatively. Wasn't a fan of a certain section where you needed to kill multiple giant monsters in an open area outside.
    Make the Jake and Sherry Campaign into what bridges both the other campaigns together. Gives us some Leon - Sherry & Chris - Jake action in some way. leading to the Leon - Chris stand off, Final bosses & game ending. Oh and get rid of the QTEs. They're not needed.

Even so, the RE series was very much at a low point before RE7 (no thanks to RE6), Capcom between 2012 and 2017 as a whole was struggling financially, and not many were hyped for Revelations 1 or 2. The HD remasters for RE4 (2014), RE0 & RE1 Remake (2015) generated some much needed fanfare returning, but it was RE7 that brought the main tsunami fanfare back, with RE2 Remake (and beyond) just doubling on it further.

    “Bad RE, good action game” isn’t even true.
    Mercenaries highlights what’s so good about this game, and also why the campaign is so bad: the movement.
    The game NEVER even ATTEMPTS to reach you anything about advanced movement. In 3 playthroughs of this game I didn’t know you could counter/parry attacks, didn’t know you could quick turn exactly like every other game either, I didnt know you could sprint+R2 for a reliable way to knock down enemies.
    The movement is great in RE6 and Mercenaries is absolutely fantastic in this game. Being able to summon gigantic towering boss enemies like that in just a casual game mode is really cool. Playing a lot of mercenaries and learning the movement does make the campaign more fun, but it can’t save it. Rolling, diving, sliding around is fun, I love rolling on the ground next to an enemy’s legs and just swinging at his legs with a knife, or doing John Wick stuff with Leon
    And of course all Jake’s Naruto moves are really fun to use instead of his weapons.
    But the game game has awful inventory systems and braindead “gameplay” that slow it wayyy down and fight against the game’s own strengths constantly, making it not a good action game.
    Vanquish is something closer to the type of action game RE6 wanted to be.
    Co-op can’t even save the campaign of this game, because there’s zero co-op mechanics. RE5 applied survival horror gameplay (ammo sharing, inventory management) TO the co-op. You could have assigned roles for weapon types if you wanted, I usually was short range/shotgun while my friend was sniper/machine gun.
    RE6 has NONE of that. RE6 is only better in co-op because you have someone else to laugh until you turn red making fun of how ridiculous the game is.
    I will say tho, you said enemy variety is lacking which just isn’t true. There are so many different wacky enemy types in RE6 it’s insane, TOO many in fact to the point where they all blend together and you barely even learn about them before the game is over. Another reason mercenaries is so good and helps you learn the game.

    Resident Evil 6 is the culmination of what new fans wanted. This was very clear after the release of 4 and 5. Then they all shit on it when it was too far outside the scope of the original trilogy. It managed to weave together a story of global proportions that tied of all the loose ends into a nice bow, while managing to incorporate horror, action, and stealth. This says nothing of having one of the most rock solid third person shooter mechanics ever conceived. In simple terms of gameplay it is one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever had. The sgip for survival horror sailed long ago leaving Capcom on shore. One step forward to the return with RE2 remake but twenty back with 3 and 4 remake. The success of RE4 is once again setting them down this path.

    The worst part is that from the outides looking in, this sounds like cliff notes, but the game is actually this all over the place and rediculous ly over the top where even this series can’t do it and not look stupid.

    I replayed RE6 a few months ago as Helena (because I played as Leon, Chris & Sherry when the game 1st came out), I hated it. The story, the characters, the controls, everything. All of it was horrible made even worse by the fact during the QTEs that Leon does, as Helena, you just sit there & wait or you carry your sister as AI Leon shoots the enemies. & the aiming retical moving on it's pissed me off beyond belief. The bosses were also massive bullet sponges that I dread thinking how they must have been on hard.

    Honestly I think that if they wanted to remake 6 I feel they need more to double down on the implications that each character is supposed to feel different.
    Make Leon feel and behave more like RE2r. Have puzzles and make it atmospheric.
    Make Chris more like his RE8 style. More action based. Heavy focus on gunplay.
    Make Jake BE the Wesker game that some of us wanted. Make him have the speed and strength with less focus on gunplay. Make sherry have a minor healing factor (Something within reason) to make it feel like the characters have super human abilities in gameplay. Then make the not Nemesis BE so much more intimidating to compensate for that.
    Make Ada's story be more about her stealth espionage gameplay... They already gave us a few bits. Why not make those the focus.
    They could still do the crossover stuff and have those be a middle ground between the 2 styles of game.
    This is what I feel like I was promised with RE6 stating 4 different campaigns.

    The best thing about re6 is that made people realize how underrated re5 actually was, like, it gave re5 merit, also re6 Mercs is outstanding, and no joke, I've time and time thought that they made that mode a priority and then they made the story mode so the action has a little context or something

    Literally one of the worst games I've ever played. If you hang out on any Resi forum or facebook group, it's rife with people saying "Come on guys, everyone hates on Resi 6 for no reason." No. The game is glaringly, factually awful.

    • @Alloveck
      @Alloveck 10 месяцев назад +1

      I won't say it's literally one of the worst games I've ever played, there are some real stinkers out there. But I'd definitely say it's probably the single worst Capcom game I've ever played, and the worst game that had an actual budget and team behind it. Or maybe more accurately, I'd say it has the single highest combination ever of actual effort and awfulness I've ever played.
      Which, aside from being a fan of the series in general, is why it bothers me so much. Clearly, a lot of effort went into it, and it seems wrong that so much work could have gone into something so very, clearly, intrinsically flawed. Like, there is no way that nobody could have noticed how unfun it was well before it was done, but it got finished anyway. What happened to the Capcom that got something like halfway through the first RE2 before deciding it kinda sucked and starting over? Or restarted RE 4 what, three or four times before making the final version? RE6 might have ended up good if it had gotten similar treatment.

    @Izak_Klark 10 месяцев назад

    I played through the entire game with my brother, so it remains one of my favorite RE experiences. We could pass each other ammo and health and there was friendly fire, which I always love. I think it should have been marketed as a co-op experience instead. I probably wouldn't play it solo except for Mercenaries mode.
    The game itself wasn't like RE2R scary, but it had that same overwhelming feeling that RE4R gives. I loved the action setpieces, honestly. And I felt like there was decent enemy variety because of the special enemies. And the characters crossing paths almost always had each team doing those parts in different ways or other parts of the same areas. They all felt distinct. Leon's campaign is the slower one, Chris's is the military shooter one, Sherry's mixed both and had Ustanak. 16:40 looks like they succeeded actually. The controls may be the same across the teams, but the presentation and tone still works. I liked the whole thing. But then I did play back in 2012 when I was 19.
    The big action setpieces were done really well to me. *Especially* the Simmons climax. I mean, fighting a guy who turns into a lion, a T-Rex, and a giant insect? Pure awesomeness.
    I'm sorry you didn't like it. After watching the whole thing, I still can't quite grasp how it was boring to you. Like... How does it blur together? The chainsaw BoW on the boat is nothing like the invisible snake or the Carla face, and Ustanak felt like an unstoppable force. The new regenerators were always tense too. Maybe the difference is that I played in co-op so the situations would feel more dynamic and engaging.

  • @PersonBeing-z9g
    @PersonBeing-z9g 3 дня назад

    21:24 I don’t think that’s a bad thing, I think that having to play most of the campaign for the story makes me want to play more and actually care about the cutscenes instead of skipping them because you think you saw the whole thing because you played as another character.

    RE6 is one of the greatest Third Person Action games with some of the most deep mechanics. Normally Im not that great when it comes to in depth fighting games like DMC for example but this game is my wheelhouse. Can make Ada basically look just like how she is in the cutscene in gameplay doing backflips over enemies and stunning them setting them up for finishers. If only the game wasn't rushed the actually feel of the movement of the characters could've been better. That's mostly my main gripe with this game is the floaty kind of feely. It's just not a polished game at all with massive Jank. But man once you master this game prepare to became A GOD as Wesker would be proud

  • @jlkgmbh2919

    I have to honestly say that I actually like Resident Evil 6. For me it has the best movement and fight system. Of course, the horror factor is only slightly there, but you can ignore that. I have to say the story about Helena and Simmons was okay, but the story about Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin was really good or the story from ada and carla was the name holy shit that was good.In general, Re 6 has a good story, but it wasn't implemented that well, but overall it's the only one story that didn't fit in my opinion was the chris campaign that was really just hell but otherwise I would say re 6 is a solid re game and for 2012 the game looks 👌 😊

    Comment before watching it: I don't mind that they made RE more into an action series because story-wise, escalating the conflict from "Top secret virus in a mansion" to "It's now out there and used as a bio weapon" made perfect sense. But the problem is that RE6 is not even a _good_ action game, and the weird split into different characters just hurt the narrative flow as well. RE5 was legitimately great (and seems to finally get the praise it deserves), RE6 was legitimately terrible even as a standalone action game. But at least the Oral Giraffe of a logo was funny.

    I liked 6 just fine. I liked it more than 5. For some reason 5 does not have any memories of happiness or excitement for me. But I still clearly remember certain parts of 6. I liked the diversity of 6 for sure. I don't recall boring parts. For instance I feel like part 8 definitely has boring parts and it makes me not want to play it again but I feel like I would love to play 6 again. I also don't feel like playing 5 again simply because of the military theme as I remember it. I still haven't even played the 4 remake. I wish people would stop complaining about 6 actually. They nee to remake code veronica by far the most just because it had tech issues and certain story pacing issues.

  • @RoyStantz
    @RoyStantz 9 месяцев назад +3

    RE6 is not as hated as you may think. Hell, all the controversy and shit just gets it a 70% on average from user votes.
    I've played the game, and even though there are a couple of flaws, I still quite enjoyed it. Besides, Leon and Ada's campaigns are the closest to that Resident Evil atmosphere as you can get.
    It's OK to love a game despite its flaws. There are plenty of games I love that have major problems to them (such as Final Fight Streetwise, yes I am guilty as charged for loving it). Hell, a lot of games people love have problems to them. For example, Starcraft was loaded with dozens of glitches that caused the game to freeze (try having an SCV repair a unit that’s going into a dropship). Also, Soul Calibur 4 doesn't count sword slashes that go through heads as a hit.
    Part of being a gamer is realising that you can enjoy games based on their merits alone, and that just because a game didn't live up to the hype doesn't mean it's not fun.
    Besides, if the Resident Evil franchise did nothing but carry on sticking to the old Alone in the Dark-esque gameplay engine with no improvements instead of switching over to the over-the-shoulder third-person shooter formula, Capcom would've been slagged off for not moving on anyway.
    You know, you just can't win them all every time, and I get the feeling that gamers have high standards, sometimes *WAY TOO HIGH* for their favourite franchises to meet.
    Just saying.

    Only 60% of players on Xbox have the achievement for completing the tutorial mission, which takes about 2 minutes. That basically means 40% of players took one look at the game and said "nope," and until 2025, I was one of those people. This game is boring, but I am forcing myself to play it because I am huge fan of the rest of the series, including RE5. The zombies are dumber than ever, and scenes that are meant to be scary just end up being funny or annoying. RE6 is even more ridiculous than Dead Rising, but that game is intentionally bonkers. It feels like Capcom tried to make it just like the terrible Paul W. S. Anderson movies. RE6 is just stupid.
