Love your content as always. I was born and raised in Osaka, always feel great to see someone talking about my hometown, especially about denim! I know you like Japanese America, Hankyu Men's Osaka is at the top of my recommendation lists in Osaka. I personally never felt bored while browsing around the clothing store there, and there are lots of nice second-hand stores around there as well.
Drew you really shine in these "fashion history" type videos! I'd love to see more deep dives like this, maybe you could eventually dig into some history in the sneaker world 👀
Its refreshing how articulate you are and how much work you put into the research for these videos
Great video, loved hearing about the Osaka 5, and absolutely look forward to seeing more videos in the series
Yes! love that you're highlighting Japanese denim so much right now!!!!
I often feel Big John gets left out of these conversations 😔. They made made many of the first iterations of jeans in Japan before the Osaka 5 and I believe their parent company owns Studio D'art
Yup, i was gonna say the same thing. 👍
I swear this series by Drew Joiner is making me more educated by the day. Always putting out great content
Dope vid, love the vandy piece in the back, and the information in the bud was really great. 🙏 Thank you
Huge props to you for doing great research. Great video!
Amazing vid!! Just getting into denim & love your format it makes it easy for someone new to get into it! Love to see more vids like this 😁😁
Thank you so much for making this series. I love Japanese denim and Japanese Americana and this series means everything to me!!!!!!!!!!
Well done, love these style of videos🤌🏽
I remember Evisu jeans being the status symbol in high school in the early 2000s. You had your Bapes with Evisu jeans and these shirts with a big hand painted on them, I can’t remember the name but the lore was that each one was hand painted by this artist. Don’t know if that was true but yeah, they were super hyped. Just remember the shirts being very colorful and splatter painted. Yeah but Evisu was super important to hip hop/street fashion and it’s kind of been forgotten by the main stream at least in my eyes.
great video bro, i learned a lot and enjoyed it hella
Great video! I consider myself a little bit of a denim nerd, but I didn't know the history of all these companies. Good job 👍
I love when you make fashion history videos, it’s so fascinating✨
I started to watch your videos couple days ago tu work on my english. It gave me "The unknow vlogs" or "Tim Dessaint" vibes. Again thank you for your content Drew and your video about" why japanese denim's the best in the world ? " was super nice and instructive, you explainded it so well it was very understandable even for an english learner like me. Peace
Its pronounced "De-neem", as in, serge d'Nimes(fabric of Nimes).
Nimes being where denim, as it is recognized today was first produced.
Nimes, France was regarded as the birthplace of the textile - but Portuguese sailors were recorded as wearing the textile prior to Nimes being known for manufacturing it.
Also, for anyone looking to get into Japanese denim specifically, Okayama Denim has a great selection of stuff, and their sales page usually has some deals on it. They even offer chainstitch hemming for **free**. Some jeans have the option of raw or 1-wash, and you can always compare the sizes when they have that option.
they actually offer free chainstitch hemming
@@Memento_HiFi Even better!
Amazing content!
Fire, keep the good work ♥️♥️♥️
Excellent video. Appreciate your research!
❤️
Good video! Love your enthusiasm. Just a little surprised you haven't talked about Edwin or Ironheart yet, but I may be a bit early in the series to see them in a video yet
Soon enough!
Always dope content
Thank you Eric!
Bruh I'm from poland and maybe don't understand a lot of words and I watch mostly with subtitles but I learn a lot. It's obvious that you have vision and it's a pleasure to listen to it, thanks. High quality content
Thank you for watching! I have a friend from poland she is awesome
I'd love to watch the video where you talk about the Japanese Americana bleeding into hip hop culture. Sounds really interesting to hear about something that started in America left America and then made its way back to America.
Love the way you're leveling up.. Here's one that it all started from "Rodeo Uncle", dig into that
Thank you man! Ill definitely give it a look🤝
hey can you put your sources in the description? i'd like to check them out myself too. also really nice videos man, big inspiration for fashion :D
adding right now
Finnally a video of the osaka 5 thank god my guy actually care about these stuff
Bro you need to do a video on boots. The boots crafted in Japan is amazing.
Quality vid 👍
#pvv Love every video you post. I thought this little fashion lesson was really dope.
It ain't easy bein' keezy. Glad you know him👌
Dope as always. You are the Lord's work in terms of current fashion. You detailing is on another. M from SA and i feel i could just extend a hand in letting people know your work. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦 reach out if you interested. But ima keep sharing your work of art.
Yo Drew what hat are you wearing here? Thanks for the amazing vids btw 🙏🙏🙏
Ain’t easy being keezy!
Loving this series #pvv 👊🏽
But warehouse detail is another level man!
I peeped the Vandy in the back my boy
yessir. fire. banger... $300 jeans. I'm wondering if there are brands that specifically focused on making the same quality for cheaper in Japanese streetwear. I understand good denim is expensive but godamn. regardless, fire video
Uniqlo , unbranded jeans, naked and famous are
Gotta appreciate the Keezy shoutout
I have yet to get into Made in Japan denim but I have gotten some selvedge denim from Naked and Famous since they have awesome and unique fabrics with a price of less than 200, which is much more accessible than 300+ jeans.
Naked & famous uses japanese denim fyi
Baseball in the 1930s brought americana culture to Japan… Babe Ruth, hoodies, American cut suits and blue jeans, we sent them levis and baseball stuff - before we blew em up - Big John then Edwin denim(1940s) made the first japanese denim (recreated levis) them, Levi’s/Lee inspired the OSaka 5
well done
History of stone island and textiles!
cover the american denim renaissance, from 2008-2018- and now think it starts with LVC and 3Sixteen (hipster era fr) LA, and Austin are really bringing back American made denim: cite Freenote denim - Mister freedom and Brave Star denim!
Love the video, and its pronounced the second way you said, "DENEEM"
Oh no baby that opening clip of someone taking off whole chunks of flesh from the apple; peeling it with a filet knife
Great video you should checkout "Weaving Shibusa". It's really nice to see a younger generation getting into denim.
Definitely will give it a look
I love that hat, what brand is it
??
Ferrer LA on Instagram
Here for this not the pickups
roger that!
I finally got a new job as a Stylist to afford more japanese denim
That was great , Drew! Enjoy your work! But, no love for Sugarcane? ;) The most "Otaku" type jeans i have are by them the attention to detail is staggering...
and then you have to do the whole Toyo Enterprises umbrella!! Buzz Rickson, Sun Surf etc...
Anyway great content, you come across as a genuinely nice empathetic dude..
Good vibes from Sunny Scotland!
Where is your hat from?
its called Ferrer.la on ig
Shout-out to Oallery. Always visit their store when I'm in Amsterdam. I think one of the employees has a tik tok account where he explains the history of clothing brands in 1 minute

How about momotaro? Any ideas
also legendary
so how much of ur collection is made out of japanese denim ? Do u think general japanese denim is better than lets say a SLP denim jean ?
Japanese denim is not a brand, it is a textile manufacturing technique down to the fibers, yarn, dye process and weave. The technique combines Japanese fiber-art tradition with American shuttle-loom machines that were abandoned during WW2.
❤🔥🔥
Please put some respect on edwin
@2:23 LOL, you can't talk about Osaka and show a time lapse of Shibuya.. Cool video though overall.
Bro😂 shhhh I couldn’t find clips of Osaka 😅
Doesn't denim come from Denim in France?
what do you mean
@@DrewJoiner the literal origin of denim is Denim in France a place in France.
@@andychrist2922 ohhh yes! I read that completely wrong
@@DrewJoiner happens, thanks for the content
oooooooh nooooooo I wish I could sit down wit you...... you are missing lots and lots of information!!!
Your story should start with post-WWII and then Mel Matsui.
Also, "High-Dee-Yay-Koe Yah-Mon-Nay"'s brand "Evis" (pronounced "ebis") wasn't officially launched until 1995 - but was soon sued by LEVIS, almost running the brand into the ground. The company was re-branded as "EVISU" and nearly all creative control was handed over to [an outsider] to revitalize the brand for the European market. EVISU had absolutely no influence from the "hip-hop"/urbanwear market. "EBISU" is the Japanese god of fishing who represents good luck.... the actual clothing brand for the Japanese market centered around Yamane's obsession with fly-fishing. Evisu was a fishing lifestyle brand above all else - and jeans were almost a caveat, but got claim-to-fame for congee artists who hand-painted custom congee and/or the gull with laytex house paint. The jeans didn't pop off until they hit the UK around 1998. They retailed around $175 in Europe and Asia, but the mark-up at US boutiques hit around $275-$395.... even $500 in some cases because the U.S. didn't have an official retailer at the time. Once EVISU had distribution in the U.S., they kept the retail price at the reseller price, which wasn't sustainable - quick but high profit margins. Because of the frenzy for the gimmick'ie embellished denim and not the brand equity, Yamane felt humiliated and fired [the outsider].... but the brand had already peaked and the global market was looking to other brands by 2005.
I could go on and on.... The Warehouse Brothers, Kato, Toyo Enterprise, Larry Mclaughin, Eddie Phuket..... the denim game is CRAZY!!!
What sources do you use to learn so much about fashion history? I would love to lose my self in acquiring such knowledge
Fyi, it's Strike Gold, not the strike, and gold
Thank you!
