I feel like texture is definitely an underrated part of a good outfit. A lot of people say this and it really does make a difference. It’s especially true if there are no accessories included
I think it's so important, in any creative field, to intimately know and understand rules like these -- only so you can then break them. The most stylish people understand these conventions and guidelines, and that's precisely how they're able to know when exactly to throw them all away. Same as with filmmaking or photography or even cooking; following these tips and tricks is just as important as knowing when to go against them. That's when you create art
I feel like the tips your giving are a great start and can definitely boost your fits and make you look good. But I think fashion at its best is figuring out how to break these “rules” and coming up with something new and refreshing.
Great pointers and tips on proportions but in all honesty it’s not completely necessary to live by these “rules”. Fashion is much deeper than just proportions. I’d rather see someone with their own style that’s funky, quirky and different (not implementing proportions) that to see a boring mundane trendy outfit that exists by these rules. That’s just my 2 cents, good vid Drewski
While yes, these are good tips for beginners to develop perspective. If you find yourself not needing these tips, then these tips are not for you and thats okay! They're useful for someone so its still great info to share
See it as guidelines. Like when you teach an artist about the anatomy to draw better. You don’t need to implement these just need to try n understand them.
You know you can still have unique style, and quirky and different looks while still applying these ideas and guidlines? None of these rules are telling people what to wear, just the most flattering ways to wear them. And its one thing to be different and unique and another thing to be different while also completely unflattering as well. In fact some of the outfits shown in this video were pretty quirky.
💯 True. I've worked with different stylists and evaluated different style systems. This Is one system amongst many that some stylists use. It's a common one amongst tradional stylists. Others throw this system away depending on what the aim is and dress clients for personality and the reasons for getting dressed (style thoughts by rita) Others for purely aesthetic, some the lines of the body and bone structure (, kibbe)
Hey Drew, I just wanted to say that your content has really helped me along in my fashion journey, and that your approach on this type of content is really unique in a great way. Keep doing what your doing bro!
Agreed, the way Drew explains and breaks down clothing is honestly very helpful compared to others. I also appreciate how he's never pushy on what type of aesthetic or clothing pieces to be fond of or anything like that
I usually don't like fall but now I'm more exited because of fall outfits My tip for leveling up your outfits is making outfits with different shades of one or two colors
First few weeks of autumn here where I live! They have been great, cozy rain and some reading, and finally able to layer outfits, I've been styling my "new" leather jacket I thrifted that fits me perfectly which feels soooo good 🙏🏻 glad to see you back Drew, we all here for the NYC ERA of your journey #pvv
i personally think that proper bottoms can make outfits a lot more interesting. the basic boring jeans with just the basic 5 pocket design are just boring, and different pants can do so much for your outfit. the 2 main factors of pants (or pretty much every piece of clothing) are the proportions and details. under details falls everything from accessories like belts, straps and pockets, to material. an extreme example for both factors would be tripp nyc x strap demin, although it keeps it simple with the color. an extreme of just the proportions would be JNCO convict 50" jeans. obviously you can also go the other way around for very slim proportions with absolutely no detail, as that can be very interesting too. for example true religion pants, although a little bit of flaring is very important. that brings me to my next point: get the proper flare. if you wear a pair of osiris d3's (very thick shoes) and some skinny jeans its just going to look wrong. you need a wide leg opening so the pants properly fit on your shoes. this goes for every shoe and every pair of pants, for example sambas (quite the slim shoe) look good on simply straight fitting denim, and not overly wide bottoms. next thing on my list: dont wear overly exiting stuff on overly boring stuff. sambas and tripp nyc x straps look very bad. sambas and some levis 501s look pretty good. osiris d3's and tripp nyc x straps look pretty good. simple equation: ordinary shoe + ordinary pants = good, exciting shoe + exciting pants = good. so all in all pants in correlation to the shoes are the most important expect for exciting outfits in my opinion. i think most examples used in the video fit what i said pretty well.
I feel like these aren’t rules but suggestions. There are many outfits which completely break these rules yet r amazing. For beginners it is necessary but the better and better u get at fits u can break these rules and have a new angle on your fits such as really oversized outfits or strange out there proportions which take over the body. Another tip for beginners is to stay monochromatic. Having a lot of black scale or earth tones can make it easy to make a lot of fits. #pvv hell. There’s too much rain in NYC especially the flood, I’ve been sick for days but the visit to the Kommune store (A pop up store for September ran by some really cool guys showing underground brands which show expertise in craft) was pretty good.
#pvv haven’t experienced chilly weather in a really long time, so fall weather has been treating me very well. As always- loved the video, Drew!! Thanks for helping me level up my style 💯🙏🏻
you can always fix too big clothes! i would recommend learning how to sew as it can massively improve the fit of everything you have, since you pretty much create your own personal piece of clothing matching exactly your desires.
First few days of “fall” haven’t been too good. It’s still pretty hot in AZ so I can’t wear my jackets. I recently scored a couple m65 jackets and I wanna wear them so bad but I don’t wanna sweat a bunch in them since it’s still 90/80 degree weather #pvv
#pvv Dude, i live in Brazil and these last few days we've been hit by a BRUTAL heat wave, it has sure been wild to stay somewhat styilish in these conditions😂. Much love to you Drew, peace!
PVV: Because England has some weird stuff going on with their weather, I can't say much outfit-wise. Something I can say is that I'm really loving these early evenings, even if its annoying to make plans, there's something so uncanny about leaving school when it's dark out I love it
pvv: yesss double fist bumps, but my fall so far has been okay. There's been a greater sense of solitude, but I find it quite peaceful at the same time. Its just a dramatic switch from summer which was very energetic😅
#pvv im still waiting for fall to start where i live, in Clermont-Ferrand, France. We had to support 30 degrees celsius today, im still wearing jorts and tanktop instead of enjoying my denim jacket that i have thrifted or my knitwear. So, still waiting. Thanks for the video!!
PVV: Autumn in Japan has brought better weather - its getting cooler so I can live normally again lol. The humidity is leaving so I get out my jeans and boots!
I learned to try and combine at least 3 of the following in my outfits and it works well: color, texture, pattern, and/or shine. Great videos man. PVV: my summer to fall transition has been great, but I'm on the west coast. 😅
Is it okay we also try to dress with just 2 quadrants on the outfit that is top and bottom 50-50 If yes then please make a video on that too 🥹 Btw nice vid, really thanks for the info
Question : is the imbalance rule le opposite of the alignment rule? Because first you say wide top + wide bottom then you talk about skinnier tops with large bottoms and vice versa. My interpretation is that these two rules are not related but each one can be and should be linked witht the rule of the third Take care
#PPV The first few days of Fall have been a bummer. Its still anywhere from 80-90+ degrees where I'm at so I can't get any fits off. Damn climate change. 😑
I'm 5'7 with an average build. longer torso and shorter legs. Idk who to play with the rule of thirds when I feel the like the inverse of the desired proportions :/ any tips/advice would be appreciated
Try wear ur pants up higher, might be uncomfortable but will make ur legs look longer and torso shorter. I have long legs and short torso, sometimes I’ll wear my pants lower to make my torso look a bit longer.
I like to utilise imbalance by wearing an oversized uniqlo airism U tee with shorts that are high above the knees. This makes imbalance between the top and the shorts😏😏
#pvv haha its actually spring in australia (': and im not liking it... allergies are picking up again hahaha and i have to wear shorts... and tbh i dont like showing my legs hahaha, but its getting to 37 degrees now... and it aint even summer, the real question is, how are you??
im not drew, but in my opinion simply looking at a lot of people properly using proportions creates a proper sense for proportions. practice makes perfect, and once your eyes see what looks good and what doesnt it will get and idea for it and how you should style yourself.
Ok maybe it’s just me but it feels like every „fashionable“ person is made up of 2/3 Legs and 1/3 upper body. While I am here trying to make something of that 50/50 without looking like Tweedledee & Tweedledum 😂
I feel like texture is definitely an underrated part of a good outfit. A lot of people say this and it really does make a difference. It’s especially true if there are no accessories included
I have a short body and look better in a monochrome look, so texture is definetly a good way for me to spice things up.

Beautiful sweater Drew, the yellow has a really beautiful conversation with your skin tones
I usually don't like fall but now I'm more exited because of fall outfits
My tip for leveling up your outfits is making outfits with different shades of one or two colors
You’re so wholesome
Great video, it's really well explained and good to have the outfits on screen to illustrate your points.
First few weeks of autumn here where I live! thanks man I appreciate your work that helped a lot
Love the NY tag in the description. A nice touch for your other video.
Great video. Fit is also important…probably the most important in my opinion as long as the colors aren’t clashing
sick video man, need a cheeky tour of your set up once your all settled in: hope youre enjoying fall in new york. big love!
I feel like these aren’t rules but suggestions. There are many outfits which completely break these rules yet r amazing. would love to see a inspirational video for fall/winter
Fall=Fashion, I have come alive again.
let's go drew!! coming in with the great insight, always. ✨
❤
Another Drew video! Thanks for your previous video on Boulder, I visited Canoe Club and wasn't disappointed!
exactly when i needed it💆🏻♀️
love the vibe
can someone please tell this man what a quadrant is
I love that sweater on you!
Excellent explanation 🎉
Well def be using the rule of 3rds in my future fits. Thanks for the tips drew
Would love a video about color matching and how to work with them
#pvv haven’t experienced chilly weather in a really long time, so fall weather has been treating me very well. As always- loved the video, Drew!! Thanks for helping me level up my style 💯🙏🏻
Drew doesn't miss
Such a great video!!
NEW MIC YAY
#pvv still surprisingly warm here in germany but cant wait for them cozy cold days honestly
i love the clips of people you add, where do you get them from? they're so inspiring
god, i love your content so much.
I know you’ve heard this ad nauseam, but your voice alone calms me and makes me feel as if, “I’ve got this fashion thing and I’m cool”
Love this
The hardest thing for me is to find pieces of clothing that I like that fit perfectly on me, it’s either too small or too big
you can always fix too big clothes! i would recommend learning how to sew as it can massively improve the fit of everything you have, since you pretty much create your own personal piece of clothing matching exactly your desires.
I’m new to your channel and I ❤ it 💯 time worth spend
I don't know but I'm still confused with my proportions, but this video definitely helps! Fall weather hasn't come yet, but I'm excited!
I can’t seem to understand the 3rds rule, can someone try and explain further for me please?
Love that videos as always Drew, thank you 🙌 xx
is that the kotn sweater you’re wearing? i’ve been obsessed with it ever since it came out, it’s so gorgeous 🥺
oh i just got to the middle of the video haha
Really good video!! Made me realise what's off with my outfit before I left the house
Aren't thirds and quadrants different terms
Is a NYC vlog coming, Drew? Curious to know how you're adjusting to New York
Oh I was wondering where the sweater was from. I have some sweats from Kotn and think they always do good stuff
Fall felt like summer for the first weeks
my fav part of sundays
First few days of “fall” haven’t been too good. It’s still pretty hot in AZ so I can’t wear my jackets. I recently scored a couple m65 jackets and I wanna wear them so bad but I don’t wanna sweat a bunch in them since it’s still 90/80 degree weather #pvv
I’m shocked Kotn has started sponsoring videos. Second video I’ve seen they are sponsoring🎉
That sweater though
Your new background makes it look you’re about to review some tech lol. Make it look more like you lol
pvv: its still quite warm in london! I'm still using my summer outfits just with a jacket. My legs are an accessory this weird warm autumn
Something I can say is that I'm really loving these early evenings, even if its annoying to make plans, there's something so uncanny about leaving school when it's dark out I love it
Hey man I really like your videos could you maybe do a how to style selvedge denim?
pvv: yesss double fist bumps, but my fall so far has been okay. There's been a greater sense of solitude, but I find it quite peaceful at the same time. Its just a dramatic switch from summer which was very energetic😅
Hey man, great advice. Where did you get that sweater from? Thanks
#pvv fall hasn’t really started here in Southern California😢 still hot asl in here
isnt it like always hot in cali
65- low 70s Fahrenheit is our winters if you even consider that cold lol
#pvv im still waiting for fall to start where i live, in Clermont-Ferrand, France. We had to support 30 degrees celsius today, im still wearing jorts and tanktop instead of enjoying my denim jacket that i have thrifted or my knitwear. So, still waiting.
Thanks for the video!!
PVV: Autumn in Japan has brought better weather - its getting cooler so I can live normally again lol. The humidity is leaving so I get out my jeans and boots!
Great video but I just have to say that the sweater is givingggg
great vid! i cant help but be irked when you say 3 quadrants tho because by saying quadrant it implies 4 sections.
I learned to try and combine at least 3 of the following in my outfits and it works well: color, texture, pattern, and/or shine. Great videos man.
PVV: my summer to fall transition has been great, but I'm on the west coast. 😅
Is it okay we also try to dress with just 2 quadrants on the outfit that is top and bottom 50-50
If yes then please make a video on that too 🥹
Btw nice vid, really thanks for the info
"If the fit's good, the fit's good"

Top video!
I am a tall guy 6' 4" I am learning a lot, getting a lot of takeaways, sometime we should collab
quadrant means 1/4. Maybe a better word for your purposes is triad?
#PPV The first few days of Fall have been a bummer. Its still anywhere from 80-90+ degrees where I'm at so I can't get any fits off. Damn climate change. 😑
I always just think these things look better I never knew it was rules to it 😂
i have not watched the video yet
i always try to dress w the rule of thirds or the sandwich one !! best rules to spice up n outfit depending where u goin :)
what even is the sandwich one? ive heard the "top and shoes match and bottom doesnt match" but i am not sure if thats what you are talking about.
#PVV 4 life ❤
I'm 5'7 with an average build. longer torso and shorter legs.
#pvv welp spent mine finishing a uni assignment, but i am so ready for snuggling into cozy sweaters for fall!
There's a 3 color rule. Don't use more than 3 colors. Put some light on it
Transition into fall has been great for the fits but not for the mood lol #pvv
I like to utilise imbalance by wearing an oversized uniqlo airism U tee with shorts that are high above the knees. This makes imbalance between the top and the shorts😏😏
It’s funny cause I was like “where’s my bop” 😂
#pvv I'm so excited for the weather, it's raining and temperature is dropping! Can't wait to wear my coats outside
Where is the sweater from? Love your vids
Got it
#pvv it's the warmest autumn here in central Europe that I can remember. Which is 3% nice and 97% terrifying
#pvv haha its actually spring in australia (': and im not liking it... allergies are picking up again hahaha and i have to wear shorts... and tbh i dont like showing my legs hahaha, but its getting to 37 degrees now... and it aint even summer, the real question is, how are you??
Thanks for the Video. Do you have any books you can s
Recommend wich go deeper threw this topic?
im not drew, but in my opinion simply looking at a lot of people properly using proportions creates a proper sense for proportions. practice makes perfect, and once your eyes see what looks good and what doesnt it will get and idea for it and how you should style yourself.
@@rayqun thanks for the awnser
I don't understand anything 😭😭😭😭
#pvv fall has been great so far, it was kinda hot the first few days but now its cooling down a little so i can start dressing a little warmer :)
Ok maybe it’s just me but it feels like every „fashionable“ person is made up of 2/3 Legs and 1/3 upper body.
While I am here trying to make something of that 50/50 without looking like Tweedledee & Tweedledum 😂
Ma chi è il mio genitore che ha tradotto il video in italiano (non ne avevamo bisogno ma ne avevamo bisogno perciò GRAZIE❤)
the best pieces you can get for your outfit are your face and your physic.
great fuckin video!
Well it technically isn't fall yet lol It's currently 85-90 degrees where I am lol I will get a taste of fall weather next week on my birthday. #pvv
Did this dude say “three quadrants”?
#pvv always fist bumping you 🫶
#pvv ?
fall has been very chaotic
No fall where I am on the west coast of Saudi Arabia 😅 our only salvation and automunal homage is PSL #PVV
Lol
3 quadrants? I’m sorry but I just can’t keep watching this channel after that RIDICULOUS mistake. I love the content but that is unacceptable.
damn im early as hell
