Zelda dungeons are one of the biggest factors on what makes the series so great from their music, puzzles, challenges, lore, visuals, and the bosses you face once you reach the end. Sure not every dungeon in the series is fantastic but the ones that are deserved to be appreciated for all time.

I don't really have a list of favorite dungeons; so I'll just list my favorites from games that I've finished.
Ocarina of Time: Fire Temple. Cool fire motif with a good boss and a better fight theme.
Majora's Mask: Does the mishmash of mini-dungeons given to you by the moon kids count? If so, then that's my pick. They're all challenging, make sure you've mastered the usage of the masks, and rewards you with the best mask in the game, the Fierce Deity's Mask. #BringthisthingbackNintendo.
Twilight Princess: Sky City. I love sky levels in general, and Sky City's vastness and dragon fight really clicks with me. Though to be honest, those Oocoo are still creepy.
Windwaker: Tower of the Gods. I didn't care too much for Windwaker's dungeons either, and this one did stump me a bit. But once I figured it out, it was fun.
Breath of the Wild: Hyrule Castle. Perfect way to end a fantastic game. Also, the final boss is nowhere NEAR as bad as most people claim. Looking at YOU, Joshscorcher!
As for next time, I loved the arcade TMNT as a kid. It'll be fun to see you talk about it in April.

Although the dungeon makes full use of time traveling and Link becomes a mermaid after obtaining the suit, I see three flaws: controlling mermaid Link is a bit hard to get used to, there’s one puzzle room that literally tests your luck, and while vire is a tricky opponent the large octorock is a bit simple.

You pretty much said every single one of my favorite dungeons in the zelda series, even the patreons picked some good ones too.
I dunno if final dungeons SHOULD COUNT but I'm going to say my 2 other favortie Dungeons, Hyrule Castle from Twilight Princess
and Ganons Castle in Ocarina of Time
Hyrule castle because you spend a good chunk outside trying to get INTO the castle and as soon as you get inside and those infamous 9 notes start to play from A Link to the past, It sent shivers down my spine, It basically screams THIS IS IT, Plus its a awesome compliation between Hyrule Castles theme and Ganons Theme. Lets also not forget it tests mostly everything you've learned so far and some memorable fights with the darknuts inside.
Ganons Castle because each of the 7 chambers has a good call back to their respective dungeons and tests what you learned, and then the climb up the castle with Ganon's haunting organ playing in the background (who'd thought the Dark King would be such a great organist, Its subtle touches like those that gives nuances to villains, I wonder if he can play Simon belmonts theme on that Organ lol)

  • @jvts8916
    @jvts8916 3 года назад +1

I enjoy all the dungeons in the list, so I think that, rather than make my own list, I'll just post honourable mentions instead.
The forsaken fortress revisit: Most of the reasons why I like this dungeon is that I hated the first run and this time I can steamroll through everything. So I can't exactly call it good, only cathartic. That being said, the boss fights are really good and keeping dungeon items you collected the first time is a nice touch.
Palace of Winds (FSA): being the final level, it's home to some of the most difficult levels in the game. There's even some that rely on how the game functions overall, such as how boomerangs go through walls but not through statues or the ability to grab other links through the dark world. Unlike other dungeons in the series, the puzzles are divided in four sets, so you can do them in whatever order you prefer. Also, this is the only stage in the game that places Vaati's dark barrier before the bosses. That way, the tension isn't ruined if you didn't gather enough force gems.
Deku Temple (TRR): One of the most nostalgic moments in a game that is otherwise unrelated to mainline Zelda games, especially with the music. It sticks out way more when the rest of the Rosy Rupeeland dungeons suck.

I got a soft spot for the Divine Beasts Vah Medoh and Naboris. One being a giant Aztec Robobird, this being the one I always go after first for the battle against Windblight Ganon and Revali's Gale. The other being an electric robot camel with a fast-paced and tense battle with Thunderblight Ganon, and it has my Zelda waifu, Urbosa. Also a clever tactic during the latter fight, you can use magnesis to lift one of the metal spikes in the ground and move it near him to have the lightning strike hit himself.

    10. Never played this one but interesting
    9. This was a nice choice
    8. Easily a very good endgame dungeon
    7. Against all odds, that's what makes it a great dungeon crawl. And yeah, Calamity Ganon could've/should've been better.
    6. Never played this one but quite nice
    5. Rite of passage, everybody
    4. Ommmm...
Ok, now that I got that out of my system, mind if I ask out of curiosity: So this is for the original version, what's your take on the Master Quest version?
    3. Man, I can't wait to play this one again.
    2. It's like Ancient Egypt, this tomb is cursed!
    1. Ah yes, it all comes together here.

Hands down, Snowpeak is easily my favorite dungeon in the series. The setting. The layout. The difficulty. The item. The music. The story relevance. The twist with the boss. Literal jumpscare. The boss battle itself. The boss theme. And even the ending cutscene. Everything. Works. So. Well. And it actually offers a good challenge for Twilight Princess. While it may not have Argorok, Blizzeta is still a super fun boss. I can’t say anything negative about it!

I've already made one post, but now, I'm going to make this one giving my thoughts on each of the Top 10 choices:
*10.)* Yeah, Temple of the Ocean King was bullshit, and what I remember of Spirit Track's dungeons, most were forgettable, and the Sand Temple started off as a nightmare. Overall, wasn't the biggest fan of the train theme, unique as it was.
*9.)* Sadly, I think my copy of A Link Between Worlds got stolen when I was living in my apartment, so yeah, missed out on a lot here.
*8.)* A Link to the Past had a lot of good dungeons along with this one, like Thieves' Town that was mentioned in the Honorable, well... Mentions, Skull Woods, Misery Mire and Turtle Rock Dungeon. As for least favorites, Palace of Darkness was tedious for a first Dark World dungeon (and not just for paying the fucking monkey 100 rupees just open the goddamned front door), and the Ice Palace... We don't talk about that one.
*7.)* I have yet to beat Breath of the Wild, but yeah, I hope the dungeons of the sequel will be more like this one, though the shrines weren't a bad idea since they're kind of like the dig sites in Mega Man Legends.
*6.)* Gonna' be honest, I never played Minish Cap, and it appears I've committed a grave sin. :(
*5.)* Wind Waker only became one of my favorite games when it came to HD version for Wii U since a lot of the annoyances of the Gamecube original were greatly addressed, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels indifferent about 80-90 percent of the dungeons of the game, outside of this one.
*4.)* The dungeons is memorable to me not only for how incredibly fun it is, but for how Nabooru kind of flirts with Link after she gives you the Spirit Medallion, which kind of developed my infatuation with the Gerudo race and was bummed they didn't show up in more games (thank goodness they were brought back in Breath of the Wild).
*3.)* I don't think most of the water dungeons in the Zelda games were that bad, outside of obvious mentions since the ones Link's Awakening were pretty good, but yeah, this is among the best. I also never quite got the symbolism, but man, makes you look a things with a whole new vision.
*2.)* Honestly, the quality of the dungeons in Twilight Princess was of the highest kind, and while this one is quite my favorite, there are some other really good ones, like Goron Mines, Temple of Time, City in the Sky, Palace of Twilight and Hyrule Castle. In fact, honorable mention for City in the Sky since it's the first dungeon in Zelda history to introduce you to the awesomeness of double clawshots, REALLY making you feel like Spider-Man!
*1.)* See my first post on this video.

I know I am in the minority, but I do like the Temple of the Ocean King. It's a neat idea with soso execution. The concept of a hub dungeon that you return to throughout your adventure is a neat idea and each new item enables you to get through it quicker, though being able to skip floors you've already completed would have been better than just utilizing shortcuts. The time mechanic was tolerable. I was never running out of time and there are ways around it like time refills and the pause zones.

    • @rpglover5955
      @rpglover5955 3 года назад +1

I never had much of a problem with the dungeon myself, especially on repeat playthroughs where you mostly know how to quickly manage them (especially when you attempt to minimize the trips for the last 2 charts, which is kinda rewarding in some sense). While I enjoyed the Tower of the spirits, I have to kind of take Mark Browns take on it in that (paraphrasing) "they ended up fixing it TOO much". The whole using your items to create faster runthroughs kinda got thrown out of the window, and the dungeon just felt like going through segmented chunks in order, instead of a whole dungeon, neatly locked off with story progression and items. I can kinda get people didn't like the retracing of same content over and over though (with some of it being skipable once you unlock that portal halfway).

Yeah, temple of the ocean king is a massive fail for me. Not for the time limit, but because of what you had to do to get to the 2nd gem. HOW! THE! FUCK! was I supposed to figure out that I needed to close my ds for the location. That puzzle only stopped me from beating the game and only got to know what happens thanks to Chuggaconroy's let's play. Though in hindsight, I can see why he likes it.

    9. Mentions the alchemist mission in Spyro 2.
Me: Why does he go on the exact same path every single time and INTENTIONALLY walk into the range of EVERY ENEMY IN THE AREA instead of the much easier straight path followed by a left turn this way?!!
Also me: Remembers the Sea Monkey escort mission from Spyro 3. These Sea Monkeys follow a set path, why don't they have the intelligence to just walk around the rocks and mushrooms that I need to destroy or clear away instead of walking right into them?!

is it really because of the time limits

Turtle Rock in Link’s Awakening, although that might be because it is the only dungeon that I have never died in when playing the game,
Mutoh’s Temple from Phantom Hourglass. I love messing around with the Hammer,
Lorule Castle from A Link Between Worlds, potential copout, but I love the music of the castle a lot,
Death Mountain, Four Swords, don’t know if this counts or not but I will say that it does,
Great Palace from Zelda 2, definitely a copout especially considering that I have never beaten the game yet,
Palace of the Four Sword from A Link to the Past GBA, copout city, but I enjoy the idea of it,
And finally, Divine Beast Vah Ruta/Hyrule Castle from Breath of the Wild, great music and interesting boss fights.
