I appreciate a medium format at this price and ability level, but I am more glad that you are not forced into a bundle with that lens. That lens does not help this camera. I'm put off by its variable aperture, and honestly ... in these photo examples, it just looks soft. Anyone not a newbie investing in this body is going to go for the GF 32-64mm F4 ... hands down ... twice the glass, albeit 4x's the price. Apologies if this question is stupid, but why would variable aperture matter for a stills camera? I could see it making a difference for video, but aren't you getting more flexability with the variable aperture?
@@LimitedWard - Nope, not a dumb question at all. To the skilled eye a variable aperture lens zoom lens is remarkably softer sharpness wise, than a fixed aperture. The benefit to a variable for still shooting? A variable aperture like this allows for a much smaller, lighter zoom lens as you have the movement of aperture to compensate for a lot of the motion of elements in a zoom lens. This also means that variable zoom lenses will cost a lot less. In a fixed aperture zoom lens, movement of elements is all you have to gain focus, which means the lens has to be longer, larger and heavier ... therefore much, much more expensive to build mechanically and optically ... theres more elements of glass to move around. In a round about way, this different design also means that a variable aperture lens just cant get the same level of sharpness.
@@LimitedWard Adding to Pitboy's great comment, variable apertures also become another factor to consider if you are shooting in manual mode. You zoom in and the image will come out darker because the lens is letting in less light. You then have to compensate, which can be frustrating if you are shooting professionally. Using a fixed aperture lens avoids this
@@LimitedWard Variable aperture isn't a big deal by itself, it's just a mark of poor quality. If they are cheaping out not having a fixed aperture, they are obviously also cheaping out elsewhere, making the lens soft. Honestly zoom lenses in general suck anyways. Thanks again for a nice video! One thing that I found a bit confusing in this one was the speak about the sensor. First it was "completely different", then later in the video it was "the same". I had to rewatch parts to figure it out... So the sensor was same as in 50 mk 1, but the body is the same as the 100? OK, my 1st watch I maybe wasn't fully focused, and English isn't my mother tongue, so maybe this was clear for others :)
Good video. The nostalgia you refer to in the film settings is an organic continuation of the medium itself. Because of this, it isn't nostalgia--more rhetorical flourish of a digital variety. Nothing is more beautiful than film, nothing even comes close. This is why the Canon 5D Classic is revered as nearly perfect. The 5D sought to attract film photographers at a time when all photographers were film photographers. And it succeeded. Nothing has changed. Your take on this is one of gadgetry: techy know-how over artistry (sorry). It is a little cold. And film is warm. Fujifilm understands this. I very much enjoy your rapid-fire erudition. But your Dell computer gives you away as tech-savy and.....well...you know. Where is your Mac?
As a medium format film photographer I appreciated the asterisk at the end. Although sadly that’s becoming less and less true. We need new film cameras (that aren’t a Leica)!
This would probably be better as an LTT video but it would be nice to have an overview current entry-level dslr-"like" cameras and how will they perform against each as well as growing within their eco systems. I have an old Canon 40d and thinking about getting a new camera but don't know if I should stick with Canon or not.
The reason you have to click in the command dial to switch between ISO and Aperture is because *every other GFX lens* has a dedicated aperture ring apart from this exact lens that you were using (and honestly, kinda weird that it doesn't have one, how much cost cutting are they really doing on something that is still priced as a high end lens?) - So USUALLY you would never be changing the aperture on the camera body, you'd always be changing it on the lens which is significantly better ergonomics. And for what it's worth, cheaper X mount lenses do the same thing and honestly you can kinda get used to it, especially if you use auto ISO anyway.
I'd love to see a breakdown video of Brandon's opinion on cameras in various categories - like entry level, enthusiast, pro, etc. I guess it doesn't really fit any of LTT's channels though
I still love my X-T4 but want the slim version of the camera but that new Sony phone with the 1" sensor is calling my name and may be the ultra portable rig. I don't see the need for a medium format right now. I'll stick with APS-C and full frame cameras for now.
If you a reported and start filming in warzone or an "active" protest for example, that strap can be quite usefull. Not everone needs it but also not everyone doesn't.

If you people only knew how dirt cheap it is for manufacturers to actually make a camera from start to finish (with all costs included, even billings, tooling, manpower and other expenditures) you wouldn't be calling this ''cheap.'' They could probably lower the price of this camera by well over 2,000 USD and they would still be in profit - THAT'S how cheap it is for them to manufacture cameras. (And this goes for everything, well almost everything, on the market, not just cameras.)
With the insane prices analog medium format cameras are sold for, and the price hikes of film, this may very well become the cheapest option for medium format
Honestly, the toughest thing about this camera is the a7r4. It's simply more resolution at a lower price, not to mention all of the other improvements. Maybe in the future the lenses will be the difference maker.
Full frame vs Medium Format. Very hard to compare the two, different pixel size and light sensitivity. Not to mention the difference in depth of field and how focal lengths are represented.
@@NicoIsntHere It's not that hard to compare them to be honest, there are many videos about that. You can clearly see that A7R4 has vastly superior dynamic range, low iso performance, autofocus, video features and especially way better lens collection. You can just get a lens with larger aperture on full frame to match the depth of field of the medium format, and it will be way cheaper too. Something like the Fujinon 63mm f2.8 gets destroyed by any modern 50mm f1.8 or faster lenses. To me the appeal of digital medium format will always be the crazy 100 mp resolution sensors and nothing more.
@@NicoIsntHere Yeah if you look at someone like Matthias Burling, the images that he gets from larger than full frame are just special. However, if you keep looking, I’m not entirely sure if the look is exclusive to medium format or if it’s just a result of the optics used. I see the merit to the medium format, but I can’t get over the price vs performance inadequacies.
@@koo3144 there's no way the 7riv has better dynamic range and iso performance. You trippin cuz. The iso performance on the Riv is garbage! I returned mine within a week and kept my Riii. I would never recommend that camera to anyone. Riii or Rv. The Riv is crap unless you have perfect lighting.
I was on the verge of trying to fit one of these into my budget when I realized this sensor is five years old. Not that sensor tech has been advancing very quickly these days, or that I would expect a Stacked Medium Format any time soon... But well you know they have to make one eventually.
All "medium format" digital cameras are still crop sensors anyways. At least all that I know of, certainly all that have good support made by major companies. So you lose the main reason anyone buys medium format.
Would a conparison of under 500€ point and shooters be an interesting video, possibly comparing them to a phone. Would I be better of buying a 1000€ phone, or a 500€ phone and a 500€ camera, for example?

Honestly, the toughest thing about this camera is the a7r4. It's simply more resolution at a lower price, not to mention all of the other improvements. Maybe in the future the lenses will be the difference maker.
Exactly.
More camera videos!
@@lobsterbark Medium Format in digital is 33x44mm, I doubt you'll ever see a mass produced sensor larger than that.
I would like to see a camera review thst is actually affordable, but still beats flag ship smart phones
Camera buying guide would be appreciated.
Why don’t Fuji use x-trans in their medium format cameras?
What straps should I used for my camera then?
Would love to see your thoughts on the Nikon Z9 :)
"Is It As GOOD?" - It's MUCH better than ANYONE actually needs!

Whats that x55 and x200?
55mm and 200mm?
Because that's clearly not 200x magnified
Or is it 155% and 200%?
can you make a video on the new DJI Ronin 4D camera?
Would a conparison of under 500€ point and shooters be an interesting video, possibly comparing them to a phone. Would I be better of buying a 1000€ phone, or a 500€ phone and a 500€ camera, for example?
I'd say a 250$ phone and a 750$ camera
what strap should we use... I'm really curious.
Has the length, thickness and radius of curvature of the banana for scale been rigorously defined?
How about video capabilities?
why would I NOT use the factory strap?
