My first apartment weirdly looked just like this one. There was even a full size window right in the shower that had a privacy frost on it, and then 6 months later they replaced all the building windows and removed the frost and we were told we could add no decals or anything to the new windows. So I would only shower at night and I would put a sheet over the window and it would get soaking wet... and I was on the first floor next to a busy sidewalk............... very fun. I'm excited to watch this lets play 😄
That’s crazy that they didn’t let you put anything on it! I would have showered only in the dark during the day with the sheet covering it cause it’s harder to see into dark buildings during the day
My first house was older, and very clearly originally only had a tub, so there was a full size window in the shower. We bought a plastic shower curtain and cut it down to fit over the window area and blocked it that way until we could renovate.
@@Chicady-uq5fh Even at night I would only shower in the dark!! I was always so paranoid that someone walking by would see the outline of me showering bc of the light being on lol
I'm so looking forward to this. I remember in sims 2 making my own apartments. You can do so much with it. Can't wait to build normal ones likea boarding house or trailer park. But I really want to make tiny apartments and a converted storage unit complex. Trying to come up with some out of the box ideas.
You creating the upstairs and making it feel like they are renovating. It is literally the reason why I watch you for the grunge and the creativity. Literally love all of your content
Back story idea- this apartment block was purchased by a developer a few years back and they renovated the first two buildings but went broke before the last one could be done. Ultimately they went bankrupt and due to the hazardous condition of the remaining building they couldn’t sell it so the whole space was foreclosed on. Now it’s just sitting there, wasting away and because no one has been willing to buy it from the bank and put the work in! I’m excited for this LP, it was definitely made for your playing style! Fingers crossed it functions well and isn’t riddled with bugs 🤞🏼
The two doors immediately next to each other is very accurate to the crappy apartment I lived in for a few years lol. This actually looks super similar to mine with the hall way in the middle and units on either side. Later on I think putting laundry machines in the dirty downstairs area with the water heater would be good bc I definitely didn’t have in-unit laundry.
I love seeing James getting so excited about this pack! I’m so excited for this next let’s play. Some suggestions: bringing back the “using furniture we find in the dumpster to furnish” challenge because I feel it seems realistic, maybe using the home chef hustle selling table to make cash early on?? AND doing what we did in dream home decorator and “buying” the building next door to this build and renovating that too.
it would be cool to add a decommissioned “pool” by doing an open ceiling basement with cracks everywhere and weeds growing in it!! adding a little fountain spout in the cracks like it was leaking would be a fun touch too
Something I really struggle with in building apartments is making the shapes of the individual units look different. In my building the biggest unit is a 3 bedroom unit for a family with kids, and the smallest unit (mine lol) is a micro-studio. I'd love to see somebody build something like that in game, where the units are suuuuper different .
Yeah totally! I definitely don't want them all to be the same - I think if we do end up using this lot, the upstairs will be quite different and if we did a 3rd floor, we could do one large apartment too!

I want to do a lot like this for each base game world. I already am mostly done with the willow creek build. It’s two shotgun houses together one modern and one traditional.

Angling the two decorative buildings like that to fill up the lot give more to me the look that you're sharing your residential space with a middle school.
I wish they would release building cheat-sheets with the pack announcements. Just a list of things you will need (like that boiler or the mailbox) and how big they are, so one can start planning and building.
The way it's still nicer than my first student apartment 😂 I can't wait for the new let's play! You could also turn them into studios instead of 1 bedroom, just to mix it up a bit.
I am probably going to wait until this pack goes on sale (though I feel like the last three packs haven't gone to the standard expansion sale price yet lol) but I am kind of excited to turn every single family lot into a multi family lot just like where I live lol.
At first I wasnt super into this upcoming pack because I figured it was another career I would never choose, but I realized I can keep my sims family in the same lot without controlling them now! Edit: misspelled a word
One great thing about this pack is more sims can be added to each world. Instead of them floating in the void lol. Also if the devs updated Get To Work, so you could actually have multiple businesses on one lot using this same concept
I'd like to build something like a bathhouse that can double as the community space, and the apartments would just have sleeping, dining, toilet. I hope the pack lets me do that.
I'd put an empty basement where I plan to put a pool, and decorate as such. Also, should totally get a dumpster for the lot. Most apartments have them for their tenants anyway, but what if your Landlord used it to eek out some extra cash?
Should have half-walled the upstairs hallway, and a few places where you had windows. It's "under construction."@@JamesTurnerYT Edit: Sorry, I hadn't finished the vid when I commented.

So excited for the new series! I’m really hoping they go back and make elevators functional for our builds as a base game update, would make a lot of sense for the new pack
I'm in the middle of a house buy and my anxiety is keeping me from eating and sleeping. You and Deli are keeping me going just by watching your videos.
I feel like building a run down lot like this before the pack comes out will just result in you changing the whole thing before you play. There will be so many new and interesting items and probably a whole list of requirements needed that this building might not have. It looks fantastic but I feel like there will be a redo of this build when the pack comes out
The requirements look to be the letterboxes, water heater and electricity panel. The rest should be easy to adjust! I also plan on having many residences throughout our let's play, so this isn't going to move in to the new world or change style drastically
Maybe you could take out the living room furniture (since it's less necessary), and then try to finish furnishing the initial apartments mainly with flea market/dumpster dived/woodworking table-made stuff for an added challenge. I think years of watching this channel has made me far more masochistic in my play style, lol.
Wonderful build, James. I love it! I really do hope you will be starting out as a tenant first, before becoming a landlord. Finding a cheap place to rent and then trying to save up for a property while paying rent in a rubbish place would be perfect for a Rags to Riches. So excited.
If you move the kitchen to where you currently have the couch, you could turn the current kitchen into dining/hallway, then you could squeeze two bedrooms in the back there. It might be good for the second apartment
I really love builds like this... because I love the idea of flipping things... So this is just awesome. I can't wait to get the new pack, use this lot, and build that dang pool out back!!! Thank you James for such an awesome build and creative Idea
Please make a trailer park. That would be a great rental for Strangerville. You could use the aeroplane lot as it's quite big and is near the other trailer park.
I feel like the effort James is putting into really trying to maximize profits by squeezing as much as possible into a space while using the least money possible is very realistic.
I've been so addicted to apartmemt building since the announcment ! Sims 2 apartment building was always my therapy. I am so excited to see this video!!

In the us most apartments don’t have overhead lights. Just in the kitchen maybe a dining room hanging light, and wall lights above sink in bathroom. We usually have to use lamps everywhere
I did that same building exactly last week. I made a 3 building complex with pool and courtyard of tables. I put fitness on 1st level with a laundry room, 1 apartment has a managers leasing agents office. Dont know if we'll need it but its there. then 2 top apartments are rentals.
I love this lot so much! I don’t ever download from other builders unless it’s a fixer-upper because I enjoy building but I can see myself downloading this lot for my own gameplay with For Rent!
this is making me so excited for this pack. i just moved into my first apartment this year, and now i can build my actual apartment and fill it with sims, which would be so much fun ahh
an apartment building with a rooftop grill area for cook outs, and then room for a pool on the ground would be awesome. I can't wait for this pack to come out!
I get it’s kind of silly especially because it would be useless as far as functionality goes, but I really do think as more and more simmers build apartment complex’s and buildings. A parking lot is such an important thing to really build the atmosphere of a place where several groups of people live. Nothing really says “apartment” quite like random car alarms going off outside your window in the middle of the night.
I was just apartment shopping and most one bedroom layouts had the door to the bathroom from the bedroom. I know not ideal for guests but makes sense if it’s just you or you and partner.
I really hope the pack will allow for some community space utilities, so you can have for example one large laundry room, or have other utilities/devices/items centralized in general.
one thing I miss was it from the sims3 was all the Furniture that more or less was classified as "found" or crappy DIY projects. like the bookshelf that was just a few bricks and lose wood planks, the table that was just a Steel wire reel that was "found" near the local construction site (buy mode). all of them was supper cheap and If I remember correctly also could be found out in the wild. and so on. Sims 4 really even whit stuff like stranger living dont have much in the style of dingy stuff.
Maybe you can do dumpster diving to furnish your early apartments? Then as you meet certain financial goals or aspirational goals you can use build mode objects?
I really liked this building, despite the "awful" looking, it tells so much story about it, there is so going on and a lot of room to build from that. I don't what to say about it, but I think its an interesting ideia the way it looks now and how we can go further than this during gameplay. I just loved it
4 Simoleons is the cheapest on flooring, because you can do the quarter-triangle-tiles with ctrl+F, so the total for a full tile needs to be a multiple of 4
I mean, it would be fun to have some requirements to fulfill to have a landlord pleased. For example, having a higher level at career could make more options available, and being a pet owner could restrict your options.
We still don’t have the gameplay details so who knows! Maybe you can customize what the markup is (like with other businesses). The fear of eviction does exist in game, so there may be some challenges for playing as a tenant.
Reminds me of my uncle's house. For many years, the basement floor was a kind of open empty space full of debris. He intended to convert it to rentable space, but it was just an open pit for a while. My cousins caught spiders down there. Eventually he built rooms lol.
I think it is the size of the apartment that determines the rental value. Such as one or two bedrooms, how many square meters, and whether you want gas or electricity...etc.
Great starter for the new pack. I would eventually love to see Bob and Trash’s old townhomes acquired and used as a rentals. Maybe a place Laird could move to when she gains more income. I mean, it’s still in the family right? 🤔😊
If you want to give them an entertainment item you can replace the bed with the Eco one from the dumpster which I believe is only $25. There's cheap book sets or perhaps the classic TV (also from Eco/dumpster) but I can't remember how much that costs. I'm looking forward to this expansion pack and the new LP.
I've created a shell for For Rent (waiting for the pack to see what BB stuff we get, so it really is just a shell) of a six unit building based on an approximate floor plan of the Friends apartments, not sure yet if I'll change one of the ground floor ones to a coffee shop, and placed it in San Myshuno's Spice District (so it may end up becoming just very Industrial looking regardless of what the new pack comes with).
I’m really looking forward to this pack , I don’t play the game anymore due to no laptop or computer but I definitely would buy this pack can’t wait to see James’ content around this pack! This video has me excited

Glad to see James already getting into the slumlord mindset by constantly looking for the cheapest options

all of them was supper cheap and If I remember correctly also could be found out in the wild.
and so on.
Sims 4 really even whit stuff like stranger living dont have much in the style of dingy stuff.
I love the grungy builds! Very excited for the next LP
Maybe you can do dumpster diving to furnish your early apartments? Then as you meet certain financial goals or aspirational goals you can use build mode objects?
Love your videos! Sooo excited for this new pack!!! Been waiting for a pack like this for awhile. I love how you did this apartment rundown!
I can’t wait to see the final result of this build, good work James!
I really liked this building, despite the "awful" looking, it tells so much story about it, there is so going on and a lot of room to build from that. I don't what to say about it, but I think its an interesting ideia the way it looks now and how we can go further than this during gameplay. I just loved it
Very excited to see this build renovated!!
4 Simoleons is the cheapest on flooring, because you can do the quarter-triangle-tiles with ctrl+F, so the total for a full tile needs to be a multiple of 4
I'm getting such sims 2 vibes from this build and I love it!! So excited for Rent to Riches 🤩🤩
I wish they made this pack more realistic meaning the sim cant afford to rent anything
14:17 "Oh that is good dinge" has now entered my vocabulary forever, thanks James
I am seriously so excited for this chapter of the Bigwallet family. Can’t wait!
If you want to give them an entertainment item you can replace the bed with the Eco one from the dumpster which I believe is only $25. There's cheap book sets or perhaps the classic TV (also from Eco/dumpster) but I can't remember how much that costs.
I'm looking forward to this expansion pack and the new LP.
this pack definitely have good potential , i think we all needed something fresh in our games
I'm so excited for this pack! I can (hopefully) have a way for sims to have homes with a rental unit in the basement or an outbuilding
Try using roofs as walls for the areas that aren't used yet. That way the building looks complete from outside but it doesn't cost anything.
i cant wait for this expansion pack!! i already know james is gonna make the best content out of it
I see it now! James’s bucket list of being a slumlord. 🤪
I'm so excited to be able to make my senior living facility functional ❤
I’m really looking forward to this pack , I don’t play the game anymore due to no laptop or computer but I definitely would buy this pack can’t wait to see James’ content around this pack! This video has me excited
18:49 dunno if it's a general cheap apartment layout or not, but that looks almost exactly like the apartment in Vampire: the masquerade and I'm obsessed.
"the dinge factor" lol Love it!
Super excited for this pack! Having just come home from a holiday in Morocco I’m working on converting a Riad into an apartment building, having a lot of fun with it. 😅
The pipes sticking out of the roof with the little cap on top are not chimneys. They're vents, and most likely plumbing vents. 😉😊
