    This game was my introduction to snowboarding games. I loved the wacky animations, music, and the grind to level up items. I can see his perspective as someone who played the full series, but for me this game was a 10/10 start.

      That's completely fair! I felt that whomever loved this game had to be those who were introduced into the franchise with this installment. I will say, I HIGHLY recommend checking out SSX Tricky and more so, SSX 3 if you haven't yet! Thanks for checking out the review!

      @@GameCubeGalaxy cool! I'll check em out. I have tricky on ps2, Tour on cube and am currently looking at 3 on o.g xbox because its backwards compatible with the modern console and fairly cheap.. @@vitamind.d.fishinsea8570 Tricky on PS2 is definitely the best version of the 3, as it was optimized better there. SSX 3 is fantastic on both PS2 and GameCube (especially the GameCube version), and I have it for the Xbox as well. The control layout doesn’t quite jive well with me since there’s only 2 triggers for tricks, and the other trick buttons are the face-buttons, which never felt natural to combine to be very honest. I greatly appreciate the compliment on the channel! 🙏🏻

    SSX on Tour is legit my favorite game in the series solely BECAUSE you can play as Mario, Luigi, and Peach. This wasn't even the only EA Sports game on the GameCube to have them, as NBA Street V3, which came out the same year, also featured the Mushroom Kingdom trio. The soundtrack is honestly okay IMO, although most of the songs would fit better in Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. There's also something very mystical about the mountain in this game; the alternate paths you can take effectively serve as different levels, and some of them, while very generic design-wise, are nonetheless quite challenging.

    • @GameCubeGalaxy

      As much as I like the aspect of playing as Mario, Luigi, and Peach in this game, it wasn’t enough to make me really like the game. On its own, SSX On Tour is a solid game, but compared to SSX Tricky and SSX 3, it is fundamentally a step backwards in almost every way. You have reasonable points though that I fully respect! I greatly appreciate you checking out the review and sharing your thoughts on the game! 👍

    I genuinely believe this is the best title in the series because of the more realistic feeling. The appearance of the game was completely SSX and snowboarding to me. That rebellious punk style is what snowboarding was and is because it’s always been a sport that was seen as different if reckless which that art style embodied. Along w the music on there that was awesome and the reason I like a lot of the featured bands, especially Bloc Party. The control scheme felt more like what extreme sports games are nowadays and the actual map was set up easy to use and was an easy way to remember where certain features were. Funny enough my brothers and I had all of the games and once we got tour we never went back to the old ones because this one felt the most natural to us as snowboarders. The Xbox 360/ PS3 SSX is the worst not bad but the worst of the series.

    SSX3 was a *MASTERPIECE.* I applaud the effort to go a totally different direction, but this fell flat for me.
    I loved SSX, Tricky, and SSX3 to death and played until my fingers bled. I almost wish after the super sick Mountain of SSX3 - which loomed over the player with the ominous presence of the best villainous final boss - I kinda wish they’d taken it back to the future funk style of Tricky.

    Bro, SSX is easily one of the most stylish Snowboarding games you'll ever play and it saddens me that this was the final Main SSX game before the reboot in 2012 although there was SSX Blur on Wii which is equally as bad as any ShovelWare Wii game should be. SSX On Tour while its awesome that you can play as Mario, Luigi, or Peach, this game saddens me because of how good SSX Tricky & SSX 3 was and how disappointed fans were of SSX on Tour because of poor decisions the developers made with this game. Such a shame that SSX on Tour ended the GameCube era of SSX and the franchise before the reboot period. Either way, Great Review as always GameCube Galaxy.

    • @GameCubeGalaxy
      @GameCubeGalaxy  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, this is a franchise that was all about style, and On Tour’s aesthetics clearly deviated too far. While SSX Blur wasn’t a “great” game, once grasping the controls, it is at least closer to the “style” of the originals. It is a shame On Tour was the last one for GameCube, as it just feels like a massive step backwards in almost every way. Thanks for checking out the review man!

  • @dimondblade
    @dimondblade 29 дней назад +1

    Yeah my biggest gripe with on tour was the lack of personality the characters had. Having the characters with their wacky voice lines was one of the things that drew me to the series. The change in controls didn't help either. I played it on PS2 so I did not even get the mario characters as a saving grace. I quickly dropped this and went back to playing ssx3

    • @GameCubeGalaxy
      @GameCubeGalaxy  29 дней назад

      Yeah, 100%. The game just lacked personality with the characters, and the change in controls was jarring. SSX 3 still is the greatest snowboarding game ever made 👍. Thanks for checking out the review!

    It's very interesting/funny hearing someone talk about this game and saying that this style just isn't SSX, I personally grew up with this one, and when I eventually went back to tricky and 3 I was disappointed that they didn't have the same rock and roll style. It's probably part of the reason why I honestly passed on both of them most of my life (I'd like to give them another shot at some point in the future). If they made a new SSX and it didn't have the early 2000s grunge esthetic I honestly think I would find it weird, cause it's all I've ever known for the series.

    Kinda agree some, but also disagree.
    I think ssx3 is better overall, but on tour has some good things.
    Controlling the character is actually easier, the way they turn and move is more smooth. I think some part of the level design is better, like the jumps have longer landing areas, and less flat parts or jumps that lead into something that can whipe you. I crash way less in on tour, the rails are way better laid out, it is very fun to get a huge rail combo on the forest level or the slopestyle level. That just did not happen on ssx3 to that extent.
    You also get boost faster, and the boost itself is way more accelerated, you feel like a speed demon, and the layout of the tracks works well with charging fast.
    Agree about monster tricks slow mo, that sucks.
    I agree that aesthetically, the tracks look very similar, and are not that memorable. They are nice, the forest and the ski village is cool. But overall they do Not have that wow factor like in ssx3 and tricky
    I think the music is great, and the punk on tour vibe is awesome. It is fun with variety of events, like the shred things with different types of game play and goals. Like outrun ski patrol, collect 30 items, tag 3 players, get this combo, first one to get 30 000 ahead, the photo cameras, etc. That is a great idea.
    But I would prefer to play as the main cast instead of creating this no voice guy.
    Also it REALLY helps to play this on an emulator, you can play at 4K resolution, with 60fps, and also high res texture mods. The visuals actually look really good.

    Hello Marcello, what is with you and comfy snowboarding content? They easily count among (my) most revisited reviews on your channel!
    Honestly any GameCube game with exclusive Nintendo content is worth nabbing just for the coolness factor, even a soulless dud like SSX On Tour. This instalment simply laughs at the faces of all the Tricky fanatics who shout that SSX 3's tracks were wholly unmemorable hahahahaha.
    You should definitely look towards reviewing NBA Street Vol. 3, which (imho) surpasses the crowd favourite Vol. 2 in terms of gameplay. Nothing beats watching Princess Peach dunk the ball like it is no one's business.
    Also thank you for your review for SSX 3. I found your lovely channel through that review and I swiftly picked a copy up as my first ever GameCube game, having not grown up with the library when it was commercially relevant. I know what they were going for with the aesthetics of Guitar Hero but I didn't care for that style and like you said they were trying to cash in on that era. I hate when series change things up drastically instead of tweaking the best parts of previous entries and fixing the issues. Weak tracks and courses are a huge bummer. The best racing games always have unforgettable courses... that doesn't seem to be the case for SSX on Tour. That's a cool attribute about being tougher and not being knocked down as easy. I do like that Nintendo had exclusive characters. Games like these are all about the flow and that's disappointing the slow motion aspect ruins it. Sorry to see the series falter like that after you enjoyed it so much. It happens to all of our favorites unfortunately. Pokemon for me has gone down hill for quite some time. Good thing we can replay our favorites! Great video and review.

      Yeah, the aesthetics here are just completely off-putting. There was no need to change it so drastically. Ssx on tour is bootycheeks. I remember when I was a youngin, one of my friends who wasn't into video games had it. I exclaimed, holy crap! You have the new ssx!? (I played tricky and ssx3 prior) He said, "Yeah, but it's just a demo." I popped it in and played it expecting a demo, but it was the full game. So in other words, my friend who knew nothing of the franchise played this game, and it felt so incomplete to him (between the soulless art style, lack of customization and polished gameplay) he assumed it was a demo. 😂

      That’s funny! Yeah, SSX On Tour is such a massive step backwards, and departure from Tricky and SSX 3, that it shouldn’t even bear the “SSX” logo lol. Thanks for checking out the review!

    Ssx 3- ssx on tour - ssx tricky - ssx original and in that order! I speak the truth

      That’s fair! As a massive fan of Tricky and SSX 3, this felt like a massive step backwards, but I can see the appeal depending on when it was experienced. Thanks for checking out the review!
