- This video explores the history, powers, and abilities of the Marvel Comics character "Shatterstar." From being genetically engineered to be an arena warrior on a future "Mojoworld," joining the Cadre Alliance to overthrow Mojo, going back in time and being recruited by Cable to join X-Force, to having his consciousness transferred into the body of the comatose mutant Benjamin Russell; Let's take a look at this iconic sword-wielding Marvel Universe superhero, and dimension-hopping member of X-Force. All including a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to rank science fiction and comic book characters.

They did him so dirty in deadpool 2. He seems like such and awesome and complex character, with significant impact in x force. In the movie, they reduced him to an arrogant alien who gets killed off after like 10 mins of screen time. Smh..

Underappreciated character that was taken down a mundane path of mediocrity. Dope original look. And he's a true warrior.
He's one of the most recognizable X-Force members but he has the most convoluted back story. I really would like to know what the original creators intended and what subsequent writers were trying to do. It seems like they all got interrupted mid-thought.

Yeah. It seems that he was liked JUST enough... But at the same time, was a bit underrated. I'm, actually, a bit conflicted about Shatterstar. But however you cut it, he's a beast! LOL!
He's basically mutant Spartacus. Which honestly should be a lot more interesting than he is generally portrayed in the comics.

Sage, I've been reading about this character since his introduction. He's 6' 3" and only weighs 95 pounds because he has hollow bones like his father/clone Longshot. His eyes are blue (with the left one surrounded by the star birthmark often becoming milky white or glowing) and his hair varies between strawberry blond or fire-engine red (depending on the artist at hand). When Peter David pulled Shatterstar out of comic limbo and into X-Factor in 2009, he refused to touch the Benjamin Russell fustercluck of Jeph Loeb's writing and for good reason. I notice that you didn't touch upon the fact that 'Star, revealed to be bisexual, was involved in a romantic relationship with fellow X-Force and X-Factor team-mate Rictor.
probably cause he felt it wasn't important enough to mention given new sage is mainly concerned with highlighting the powers and capabilities of the characters moreso than an in-depth breakdown of their personal lives

Wait wait wait... if he has hollow bones, how does he weigh 210 pounds? If I recall right, his father Longshot also had hollow bones and as such, only weighed about 92 pounds... which still seems considerably light, even with hollow bones, but there it is. Also, regenerates from injury? Except that one time he was off the team for months because he cracked his ribs and needed to heal.
Anthony Sforza and Longshot has one less finger.
I've always loved this character and thought that he should be more popular then he is.

This guy got killed as soon as he jumped out of the plane in Deadpool 2. He landed in the helicopter blades. Too funny. It was one of my favorite parts of the movie.
The two pronged sword is so inefficient. It's literally distributing the force along more than double the surface area. You might as well make a blade twice as thick.
It was shown in xfactor by Peter David that shatterstar and longshot are each others fathers via some time travel thing, yeah I know, weird. Also, don't even know how I remember this as it was so long ago, but shtterstar's name was revealed to be Gaveedra 7 IIRC.

Scientifically speaking hollow bones would make you extremely brittle. Muscle wouldn't even be a factor in protecting you even if you had 200lbs of muscle. That would also hinder you even further with hollow bones.

Shatterstars real name isn't Benjamin Russell. It's Gavedra Seven. Shatterstar did not exhibit homsexual tendencies until he merged with Benjamin Russell.

No, they were already hinting Star MIGHT be gay/bi exactly before Benjamin Russel arc came in. In fact, Rictor leaving Mexico made him reckless enough to fall into their enemies mind... trap... something... Rictor came back the moment they figured Star was getting memories from a guy named Benjamin Russel.
X-Factor Shatterstar presumably erased the Benjamin Russel arc since, let's be honest, nobody unsderstood what the fuck happened. Even the writers didn't know.
It's still sickening...Bottom line, we did NOT like the character for being lettuce gay bacon and tomato or even know until they snuck it in later...PERIOD. That's called the perversion of young minds. Make a gay character if you must, but leave the cool ones originally created straight alone....js

Anything's possible with this dude, and his mysterious backstory / backstories! LOL! He kinda reminds me of Image Comics' DieHard. None of these guys' people or co-workers know anything about them! LOL!

Steven Chang It was confirmed in 2013 in X-Factor that Shatterstar is Dazzler and Longshot's son, and also Longshot's "father" - as Longshot was cloned from him and then slightly tweaked - due to time paradox. Actually, I think it's a shame that this review didn't cover the more recent X-Factor at all. That's also part of his story, one that majorly tackled his character development since the '90s, and it elaborated on what I think were always really interesting and defining traits of the character like his struggle with understanding human conventions and his emotional development after being engineered as an emotionless warrior. If you're interested, his wikipedia page and the marvel wikia do a good job covering that part, and other significant features like his relationship with Rictor.

What's the point of having hollow bones, if you weigh 210 pounds? Which is average weight for someone with that height, if anything it should make his bones lose structural integrity, and become more prone to fractures.
