Thanks for hosting Sam! He is such an interesting person with a pleasant personality. I watch all his videos and enjoy his unique perspective on the world.
Unfortunately there has never been any loophole that a buyer of a supercar has to qualify with other than funding. There are a huge number of dolts who are running out of talent as soon as they open the door of the car. They are a complete pain and are making the lives of residents in the West End of London a misery, quite apart from blocking streets and risking lives. This is totally inappropriate use and frankly a waste of capabilities of some amazing vehicles. In this country Track days are the only place for these events.
I could listen to Chris Harris for hours. So refreshing. Shit, I want to BE Chris Harris sometimes. Perhaps, Chris, the answer is for the manufacturers to pay people like you - proper car journalists - to review the prototypes, and give them feedback privately in order to improve the car before it is launched?
Another great interview - I’ve met Sam in person once and he’s as nice a guy to speak to as he comes across in this podcast. This was such a valid conversation - I very much enjoyed the observations discussed.
I just want to say something related to the top gear discussion. That, in my opinion, Chris Harris is one of the people which deserve a place on that show the most. And I say this after watching the series since 2002(maybe 03) and it being my favorite thing in the world to watch.
At the 1:00:00 mark you pick up a very good point. We are slowly heading to a 2008 style economic crash, but this time won't be because of the housing market, it will be the car market to crash it. In the last few years due to the ultra-low interest rates, banks are offering finance to every Tom, Dick and Harry student that is working part-time at Starbucks to buy their beloved brand new £30K Golf GTI. The amount of young kids I see everyday in brand new (and expensive) cars is staggering. This situation won't end well...
Yup, it might end in tears for them. I've never financed for a car or motorbike, and hope to hold off the temptation to do so when the next interesting thing passes...
I'm sorry but the suggestion that a car market bubble will cause a '07 style recession is laughable. Car finance keeps poor people poor. It does not cause an economic crash.
Love it....great discussion and insight surrounding the good, bad and the downright nonsense within the social media arena..... Harris on fire as usual 👍
This channel is really good find. So far listened to the Metcalf and Tiff episodes and now this. Funnily, the three of my favorites in English content. Chris and Harry being true car journos and Sam a life style content producer with a decent humbleness. So many comments to say but best concluded is that all what was said made a lot of sense. There is maybe one thing to add. Guys like Harry Metcalfe and Chris Harris appeal to the older audinece because it is the world we know and Sam, Shmee, JWW, SOL, Archie and TG are more for the young generation for whom internet, instagram is granted, the norm and reading a magazine is almost an impossibility. There is a distinct gap of generations here. It must be said that it is weird and tells a lot that these posh guys are form the same privileged circles. There are a couple that I have not mentioned that I think are pure ridiculous jokes. One guy who should do content is the ”horse dealer” Tony as he seems so funny yet obviously knows alot of cars. I want to name one more producer who makes excellent content but not in English - the Italian Davide Cironi. He is actually there with Chris and Harry, Jethro B. and Henry C. in his true love of cars. His videos are very beautiful, a lot of information and not gigling nor showing off himself and his excellency. If you can create something that feels honest it usually works. Then there is ofcourse the Tiff and the Jeremy - but they are already entertainers really regardless of their passion to speed and cars. I was very happy to hear Chris’ and Harry’s views on the supercars of today - because frankly I too do not understand where you need 600 hp. It is not a car anymore. It is more like jewelry in box/garage. And then the same manufacturers sell e-cars for to give a green impression ... It is a lie in many ways.
I couldn't agree more. The main point with the younger generation and their way of consuming car content, is in my mind, that it's more about the prestige object a car is. Those Influencers you mentioned present them with a certain type of desireable lifestyle, together with posh clothes and expensive watches. If there would be a more effective way of showing off, it wouldn't be about cars. This is why it's generally not about the cars in their videos in the first place.
Really enjoyed listening to this. Nice to know Mr Harris is as grumpy as me (50 this month). Splendid. I'd like a 550 Maranello. I don't need one and there's no justification for it other than I want one.
A great interview with Harry who’s RUclips channel I watch which is great by the way. The only thing that gets me is when you all start bashing the electric car. I like cars and have had all sorts of hot Hatcher’s over the years but I now drive an electric car witch I love I like the instant torque when you put your foot down from the electric motor. The silence and smoothness of the drive. I know that they don’t suit everyone at the moment but with battery tech faster recharge times will come running close to petrol refuelling times with new batteries such as solid state batteries. I know there’s the co2 arguments but when you walk down the side of a road when diesel buses and cars come past you can taste the fumes that come from them look at LA in America. I’m sure both petrol and electric can co exist for many years to come (I hope so )
Formula E has exclusivity with regard to full electric propulsion. So on paper F1 can't go electric for another 20 seasons unless Formula E allow them too. So much for 'saving' the world. Great podcast btw STG always seemed the most genuine youtuber for cars
Hey guys great stuff fancy listening to a Car Podcast !! But I loved it and have subscribed. BTW Chris the first time I heard an e90 M3 I said I must have one, and now I have one and I just love it. Can’t wait for the next one guys Jp
Just bought a 2006 BMW M3 E46 ZCP (Comp Pack US), it's previously enjoyed, slightly modded and I'm so happy. It's the dream car really, I can't wait to get my hands dirty to make it as great as possible. Nothing new is exciting, with the exception of Porsche GT cars. BMW lost it's way somehow, they cant help the turbo stuff, but the styling the size of the cars is just disappointing. In the late 90s and early 00s BMW was untouchable. E39 M5, E31 850csi, E38 7 Series just gold, all of them.
Perfect example is Shmee150. He's reaching max burn out buying every car left right centre wrapping it modding. One day its all going to implode, all gotten too ridiculous trying bring in as many views as poss.
that fuel pump in question chris normally fails due to the diagram puncturing and u can get repair kit for 25euro and thay do go about the same time so ur best to just do both
Shocking interview technique. Basically ignore your guest and ask questions you would rather answer yourself! And im a chris harris fan !! Stick to writing chris
In light of recent bad publicity of influencers, I am impressed with Sam seen thru glass. Its easy for these influencers having Icarus stories who shatter the illusion and question the legitimacy of the partnerships they have
For someone who has been trying to grow their channel from scratch without the "I bought a new" RUclips formula, and actually using and driving the cars like they should be, I found this podcast very entertaining. Guess that explains why I haven't got 400k subs yet lol. Anyways, that was all very interesting. Think it's funny how Sam waved off the amount of money he makes from RUclips as "a couple of hundred quid per video"... think there's a bit more to the story than that. Anyway that was a very good podcast.
I disagree with the conversation about "influencers" and motor journalists. When the C8 came out, Chevy wouldn't give a demo to Doug Demuro before release. Their rationale for this, was that Doug Demuro is an influencer, and they didn't find it appropriate. I think Chevy made the right call. If Doug Demuro says something subjective about the new Corvette that he doesn't like, he will impact sales massively. He is an influencer at the point he starts jabbering off about his subjective opinions of the automobile. I don't believe a motor journalist is forbidden to give their opinions, however, it has to be done tastefully and respectfully. You have to take yourself out of the discussion. We don't care what Doug Demuro likes. The moment we do, is the moment he becomes an influencer. I think the car companies view journalists as people who will read off the spec sheet, mention new features, and call it a day.
Disappointing how Chris treated Sam here. Difficult to listen to at times. Give the man some breathing space instead of using him as a sounding board for your rants.
So I listened to this, and the Richard Porter one. Duly inspired, I went off to buy EVO as I am back in the UK for 2 weeks (it's too expensive and out of date in the US). Couldn't read it! I can still read a computer or phone screen, but definitely need to stop pretending I don't need reading glasses. This may be a non-negligible factor for the target demographic. Can we have a large print edition?
You make a cautionary comment with regards to devaluing the aspirational nature of certain brands. As a customer brands like Porsche and McLaren have led me resent the idea of paying for a product them seem more than happy to just give away to some people. Maybe I should post a video titled "look at me, the dumb arse who actually paid to drive one of these!"
For some reason I can’t stand these “influencers”. They sit and talk about the color and options of all the new HyperCars they order but never talk about driving dynamics or shows them at the track at anything close to 7/10ths. Schmeee is the absolute worst and seen thru broken glass isn’t much better. For me it’s about the experience (driving the car) and not just things (cars). I like to watch guys like Chris and Tiff, but RUclips keeps recommending schmeeeee and broken glass and occasionally I watch and after the first 3 minutes I’m reminded of the kid that gets every toy he ever wants and wants to show everyone, and by the time they get to high school, they have no friends because people are tired of them talking about their things and want friends that want a real friendship.
Guys, amazing content but please get an audio engineer because the sound quality is horrible. Something isn't right, some voices sound distorted, volume fluctuates, every time Chris laughs my eardrums explode. Other than that, awesome podcast!
You could really tell Monkey had a huge bone to pick with Sam and the general “popular” gang of car youtubers😂😂 I’m glad that Sam didn’t let Harris bully him cause wow he was really tryna dig in without outright saying “fuck shmee and fuck yanni and fuck anyone else who’s young and knows sod all about cars but gets invited to press launches” 🤣🤣
I like Chris, but he has got a bit of a bee in his bonnet about lazy content creators. Wish he’d give Sam more of a chance takes balls to quit a day job for a passion. I do love the podcasts, love Chris, love Sam and seen through glass, love browsing the collecting cars website. No need for the hostility Sometimes I like going to a nice restaurant , sometimes I just want an oven pizza there’s enough views for everyone. 🤷♂️
I heard a certain YTer gets £15k each time he takes a McLaren and does some videos for it... it's only hear say, I have no evidence but that's what I got told by someone in a rival dealership haha!
Love this content Chris. However, a video feature would treat this experience well.
What on earth have I just stumbled across... Chris Harris and mates talking cars for almost 2 hours! Yes please
Check out his appearances on Matt Farah's podcasts 'The Smoking Tire' and Joe Rogans Experience Podcast (JRE #589)
Thanks for hosting Sam! He is such an interesting person with a pleasant personality. I watch all his videos and enjoy his unique perspective on the world.
I am glad at the end Sam was given a chance to speak, Ed and Chris were really intrusive for the 1st 30mins or so. Good podcast though
This one should be called, "Chris Harris Talks Cars AT Sam from Seen Through Glass"
They are all like that. Chris interrupted Richard Meaden throughout theirs too. It's been a shame to realise that Chris is like this.
Sam Harper great driver - lousy talk show host

Fantastic content. No pretentious crap, real petrol heads and real opinions. Love the podcast gents, please keep it up 👍
For the record, Chris is an influencer. Thanks to him I have an M2
Likewise. Pick up my M2C of Friday.
Haha me too. Picked up an M2C in October !
You know you've made it as an auto youtuber when the GOAT Chris Harris approaches you to do some content.
I just want to say something related to the top gear discussion. That, in my opinion, Chris Harris is one of the people which deserve a place on that show the most. And I say this after watching the series since 2002(maybe 03) and it being my favorite thing in the world to watch.

you should set up a camera in the studio if you can
So happy to see Sam on the podcast, didn’t have anywhere else to comment so I guess this is it.

Great listening for a long drive, keep it up please 👌

Jp
I just sold mine :-)
I'm a huge fan of Sam's content. Thank You guys.
All the talk on Lotus getting a alpine and Cayman rival from the Evija and then the Emira emerges.
Thanks for keeping me company on my nightshift 👍🏻 love the podcasts

Sam is awesome. His videos are top notch quality.
I COULD LISTEN TO CHRIS ALL DAY !
really enjoyed this one!!! Felt like I was sitting there with you all
By the way, the Lambo in question was on Copart and sold for 30k.. if it’s there, they 90% sure got insurance pay out. Great episode! 🍺
Perfect example is Shmee150. He's reaching max burn out buying every car left right centre wrapping it modding. One day its all going to implode, all gotten too ridiculous trying bring in as many views as poss.

Chris may as well become an influencer with the rate that he’s buying cars at now
Love Chris beeing so honest
Good Honest Debate, really enjoyed it.
With all due respect to Chris story telling. Why the hell you didn't let Sam talk? Shame.
Great show guys. Thank you.
I vote for a vlog too!

Guessing Chris can’t make video content due to his other automotive themed show... a show with this much Harris content is far too big a threat! Hehe
"Speed doesn't kill but the inappropriate use of it does"

Disappointing how Chris treated Sam here. Difficult to listen to at times. Give the man some breathing space instead of using him as a sounding board for your rants.
Agree with you @ChrisHarris, dished wheels all the way.
What a legend he is 👍
@53:30: Exactly. No need to wonder why Shmee never says a critical word about any car and why he's always invited to every launch.
And I watched his videos in the beginning, but the lack of any kind of criticism got old quickly.
Fantastic.....

Yes Chris dominates, but his knowledge and confidence in the topic mirrors this. Sam out of his depth here
I thought actually Sam had absolute authority in his field. Perspective!
