    a lot of species go to far but there's absolutely nothing wrong with making a species and saying "they have these traits and don't have these, if your character doesn't fit the requirements that's fine but they just aren't part of the species". that's a good thing!!

      This I agree with. If you make a spiecies you can make the rules for how that spiecies are. So if they do not have horns and aomeone makes one with horns... Its not part of the spiecies. Its onky when people try to tell others that they cannot make a spiecies because they drew it first

    Reasons closed species are bad
    1, Do i seriously have to pay do draw something *by* *myself* Like dud i can draw what i want
    2. Fear somebody will come after you after making a similar character to their species. Some of them will come after you if you didnt even know about their species but made something similar to it
    3. As the person said the prices are incredibly high just to give it an extra small trait or even drawing it yourself
    4. Mods and owners of the websites are sometimes horrible people driving people out of the community (If yk yk)

    When it comes to making money off of Closed Species, idk why they don't just let people make their own (they can ask to be credited for the species) and offer doing the design for them for a price for people who either can't draw or can't come up with a design they like. I feel like they'd get more money for it since more people would be able to hear of them and might want one.

    The only non-money reason I can think of for having a closed species is sentimental value. People make a creature and lore, and they don’t feel comfortable throwing it out to the world to do whatever it wants with it. I get that, but I don’t agree with it. If you want to have control over a species that you made, there’s a way to do that: don’t post about it. Keep it in your friend circles, or hell, keep it to yourself. Setting the “qualifications” to make a character of a closed species as “being my friend/knowing about said species in the first place” and not “paying me $2000” is not only more effective, but also a lot more fun when you and your buddies have this cursed alien creature only you know about.

    • @sexygirlmax2019
      @sexygirlmax2019 9 месяцев назад +1

      $2000? id see that for maybe a grem2, ccat, or primagen or something, but most closed species dont cost nearly that...plus...no ones forcing you to pay them $2000 and if youre creative you can come up with something unique without ripping off an existing concept, ya feel?

    • @thepyritizedgardevoir2389
      @thepyritizedgardevoir2389 9 месяцев назад +4

      Ok, I admit $2000 was a little dramatic, I just pulled from my head whatever big number came first. And yes, I acknowledge that people can just make one without paying. My point was that if you don’t feel comfortable with people doing that to your original species, then a more ethical way to deal with those limits is to not let the world see it in the first place. But that’s just me.

    I honestly ignore closed species you have to pay for. Yeah, i might get a little sad. But if i really want something like it, i can just take a bit of inspiration and make a totally different character. I dont like making off brands, it just feels weird, and kinda mean to purposefully just, disregard the rules. Im sure everyone will think thats a dumb opinion. But its just how i see it. I understand it if you're doing something like D&D and making a whole rpg world but when you're forcing people to buy certain traits for a species they already bought then you're hindering peoples creativity and essentially scamming them so most of the time people are going to start leaving your community because of that.

  • @PrettyRubbish

    I personally think closed species are a non issue. The stupid ones yhat arent very original dont ever seem to get very popular and i guess its a good way to ensure the people using your intellectual property actually care about it and wont just draw the character once and then let it set and collect dust (you know, because they paid for it). I used to be the person who let anybody make a character of my species once. I even made some free adoptables that people really liked. The only "payment" required was that you had to draw the character within 30 days to keep them. Everyone drew their character once and then never did anything with them again. It was a little insulting. Now all my species are closed, and I don't plan on selling them either, I just don't want people making characters of my species anymore. Especially if they're gonna neglect them.

    • @vladaowo6367
      @vladaowo6367 9 месяцев назад +4

      Well, people buy just characters and can pay 700$ (Saw that personally) and never do anything with them anyway. A lot of adopts look very pretty, detailed, and people give a lot of money for them, but those designs work only as a nice picture that you simply glad to have. You will never draw them because the design, even though is pretty, is just too detailed for most artists to draw. And still, everyone can make characters of your species, well, with traits of your species, and you can't stop them. Yes, they won't be considered your species , but still can look exactly like them, without copying a specific character of course.

    • @PrettyRubbish
      @PrettyRubbish 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@vladaowo6367 ime when people do that other people are more than happy to shame them into taking it down. It happened to me once and the character I drew only vaguely resembled another artist's character (they had a couple similar traits but it's not like they were identical at all) and I got targeted and harassed and told to take it down. The art community is pretty big on canceling people who don't have ethics. Copying a character's or specie's traits is considered a pretty big dick move in the art community. As for people who spend money on characters, but don't use them, I'm sure it happens but I don't see it very often.

    The thing i realized through my stint in the 'species' community is that any species, open or closed, really isn't for me. Just the policing of traits and people who act within a made-up framework of arbitrary rules,,, it's breeding grounds for needless drama.
    For me, creating OCs who are one-off designs/""species"" is much more interesting and rewarding, and keeps me solidly out of 'species' drama (that is, until someone accuses me of having stolen traits of some obscure new species i've never even seen before,,, haha)

    I think it's overall a good video depicting why closed species are an issue, but I think you missed the part on open species. The whole point of an open species, is that it doesn't require money. Open species are artists saying "Hey I came up with a silly thingy and I wanted to share it! Why not try and make your own?"
    That ain't the same as someone expecting money from you to be allowed to slap horns into a bunny
    Also, no need to drag the whole ass furry community down for the bad eggs in it, some people just like imagining themselves an an anthro bat or smth, nothing wrong with that
