But I stopped using furaffinity to post artwork when I found that out 💀 And unfortunately since the owner of the site is part of the main issue. So I've gone back to just using Instagram despite how the tags don't function well anymore. But yeah. I actually don't know anymore how to fix the issue. It'd require the entire site to just be either deleted or given to someone else more responsible. But outside that what CAN we do? Even if more people speak up against them, what can we do about online spaces? Real world spaces will be easier to deal with but I'm curious what you'd advise for online repairs?

I was at Ireland's first furry con, AnthroIrish, last weekend and it had 131 members in total despite us being such a small country. I'm so glad it went better than this so-called "convention" lol, it was genuinely a very good time and hopefully it will continue to grow

Honestly I had a pretty good experience at my first con. Trick is to plan. Do lots of planning. Know the area, know the hotel, know the con space the events you know you wanna hit. if you're going to get roommates, room with people you know and that you trust. Ideally, people who have been to cons before and know how to navigate them.
Few cons are like this one. In fact, most cons are the polar opposite of this. Granted, any public space is gonna have its risks, but I wouldn't say a furcon is any more dangerous than any other convention.
Any convention that has jasonafex and kabier as guests of honor is doomed to fail. Oh and of course all the big packages are based around following them around. When they are literally sleeping with the owner I guess they make sure they are considered the most important thing. Hope no children bought those. i wouldnt really consider myself a furry - maybe just someone who appreciates the art of fursuiting and someone who thinks anthro characters are cool - but watching furry spaces devolve into progressively more dangerous places is really... concerning to me. the fact that known zoophiles and pedophiles are STILL allowed in some conventions and other public spaces where animals and children could also be really worries me.
It worries us too. Thankfully most larger cons have people banned. But the problem is some cons only ban people if the actions they make are during the con. Unless severe enough. Many people also tend to ignore art. Art isn't inherently bad but some of the nsfw art that clues us into how a person is like, should be valid evidence to suspect someone for something. But unfortunately both within the furry community and out of it within other groups, art is generally ignored on the basis of fiction. And it's awful. It's not the majority but it is a common issue

When donating to charity, you have to be good at researching. Not every charity will spend that money on good things. Autism speaks, for example, spends only a small amount of their donation money on the people they claim to represent, and have a history of using ads to scare parents about the “dangers” of an autistic child. As an autistic person, I know that autism isn’t scary, but it still feels sad that people misuse their status as a nonprofit to misuse donations. This is just an example of people not researching before donating, to make sure their money is actually helping people.

Kind of sad to see Safari Sanctuary has taken a turn for the worst, in more ways than one. I used to volunteer there about 11 years ago and they were definitely struggling. A lot of their operation runs on charity, including what they have to feed the animals. They used to be the main charity for our cons here in Oklahoma but I have noticed that’s not the case so much anymore.

The whole thing has actually been a useful and practical test of a hypothesis. The right-wing furry fan believes that the "woke" fans are in some way "ruining the fandom" - or in some way materially harming the experience of the right-wing furry fan. So they got their safe space. Nobody but those amenable to their rhetoric showed up. Yet the first year, by all accounts was ultimately tepid and pretty boring. There didn't seem to be much inspiration for fun subject and activities now that privacy had been attained. While it was promoted as a huge success after the fact, this seemed marketing spin. Exaggerated attendance figures, etc. So the test is what happens in its second year. The reality is that complaining about people online is low effort and low investment. It's easy to join a right-wing furry chat server and spend all day about the fandom being ruined and if only we could remove all the "woke leftists" everything would be fantastic. But it's pretty expensive to actually go do something. Takes travel and hotel funds, time off work, meals, and so forth. So what has happened is the attendees of Free Fur All voted with their time and wallets. Most of them didn't come back the second year. And almost nobody was enticed to try it for the first time. It just didn't accomplish anything and it wasn't fun. This suggests the problem with a certain kind of furry fan not having fun in the community has not in fact been the rest of the community.
Fun Fact: There were more people at the first furry convention in 1989 then there was at this event.

Honestly I had a pretty good experience at my first con. Trick is to plan. Do lots of planning. Know the area, know the hotel, know the con space the events you know you wanna hit. if you're going to get roommates, room with people you know and that you trust. Ideally, people who have been to cons before and know how to navigate them.

It's a con that is barely disguised as a place for politics to not take over which I think would be really nice sometimes(a lot of things can become heavily divided between several really bad sides all villainizing each other) but is just an excuse to have really evil people all gather and praise themselves.

It worries us too. Thankfully most larger cons have people banned. But the problem is some cons only ban people if the actions they make are during the con. Unless severe enough. Many people also tend to ignore art. Art isn't inherently bad but some of the nsfw art that clues us into how a person is like, should be valid evidence to suspect someone for something. But unfortunately both within the furry community and out of it within other groups, art is generally ignored on the basis of fiction. And it's awful.

When donating to charity, you have to be good at researching. Not every charity will spend that money on good things. Autism speaks, for example, spends only a small amount of their donation money on the people they claim to represent, and have a history of using ads to scare parents about the “dangers” of an autistic child. As an autistic person, I know that autism isn’t scary, but it still feels sad that people misuse their status as a nonprofit to misuse donations. This is just an example of people not researching before donating, to make sure their money is actually helping people.

How is an American flag political ? It represents all Americans and it's just a logo for a country. About as political as your name. Not defending the con just saying country flags aren't political, unless it's a flag that represents a party, American flag doesn't represent a specific party.

If there is anything that makes me incredibly happy, it's that this furcon not only flops hard but also unites furries and non furries in showing how dumb the idea of having a convention for discriminatory people within one of the most caring and open fandoms around really is. Hopefully if we all keep fighting this, they'll learn they have no place in our community.

It’s really disheartening to just start looking into a community that’s supposed to be non judgemental and a place for people to just cut loose, be themselves and share in their love of the art, only to see that it’s been invaded by politics and bigotry. Kind of sad to see Safari Sanctuary has taken a turn for the worst, in more ways than one. I used to volunteer there about 11 years ago and they were definitely struggling. A lot of their operation runs on charity, including what they have to feed the animals. They used to be the main charity for our cons here in Oklahoma but I have noticed that’s not the case so much anymore.

The whole thing has actually been a useful and practical test of a hypothesis. The right-wing furry fan believes that the "woke" fans are in some way "ruining the fandom" - or in some way materially harming the experience of the right-wing furry fan. So they got their safe space. Nobody but those amenable to their rhetoric showed up. Yet the first year, by all accounts was ultimately tepid and pretty boring. There didn't seem to be much inspiration for fun subject and activities now that privacy had been attained. While it was promoted as a huge success after the fact, this seemed marketing spin. Exaggerated attendance figures, etc.
So the test is what happens in its second year. The reality is that complaining about people online is low effort and low investment. It's easy to join a right-wing furry chat server and spend all day about the fandom being ruined and if only we could remove all the "woke leftists" everything would be fantastic. But it's pretty expensive to actually go do something. Takes travel and hotel funds, time off work, meals, and so forth. So what has happened is the attendees of Free Fur All voted with their time and wallets. Most of them didn't come back the second year. And almost nobody was enticed to try it for the first time.
It just didn't accomplish anything and it wasn't fun. This suggests the problem with a certain kind of furry fan not having fun in the community has not in fact been the rest of the community.
