being a black guy, i can't say i've been exposed to much racism personally due to people in the fandom, but being referred to as an uncle tom by khord kitty still hit like a proverbial freight.
15:44 the 60 year old woman went by T. rex. She loved cheetah print and died fighting to keep others safe. She was a family friend. Also that wasn’t the only person he shot- My aunt was also shot aswell as one other person. They where lucky to survive and are still healing mentally and physically to this day.
When I tell y’all I saw a screenshot of someone on tiktok telling a POC fursuiter to; “Go do something more fit for a black person like rapping and leave fursuiting to us whites ^_^” I am saying this genuinely. Like, holy shit. The screenshot was on Pinterest and my jaw actually dropped down to the floor- and just the freeze-frame of the POC fursuiter in suit just staring in utter disbelief that the commenter had the audacity to say that to them- you can’t even see the real persons face but the positioning of the fursuit head says it all-
Lmao I saw that and thought it was fake. If only that girl (girly looking fursuit from the screenshot) had see the start of All Gas No Brakes’s video on a furcon.

Had a guy get upset that I mentioned that I was black. He had a whole paragraph telling me that the furry fandom is just about cute fluffy animal people not race.
I feel like that was a Misguided response from that guy. I understand where he may have been coming from. Some in this fandom hate when furries break the fantasy illusion and just insert reality into it because this fandom is a form of escapism especially from our horrible reality. I think that is why he may have said what he said.
I'm glad to see that there are still some people out there who get it. There's only one race who's extinction would truly mean peace on earth: The *Human* race.
@@CheetahFoxxJokes on you as someone who walked that mental path before. Everyone dying also wouldn't solve our problems. Im going to start getting philosophical just bear with me for a minute. Humanity is a lot like fire, honestly probably a bit closer to atomic energy. At first glance, fire brings death and destruction, a mismanaged or uncontrolled fire can burn entire villages to the ground. Humans are a lot like that in the sense that we are 100% capable of extreme destruction. *but* much like a fire, the fire doesn't cause destruction because it wants to kill. Nor is the fire capable of only destruction. Fire allows for one thing to transform into another(literal alchemy shit). Fire allows one to greater a comfortable home with a warm environment. It can be comforting and honestly a relaxing show to watch. Both fire and Humans can dance. Humans when we aren't busy killing each other can create wonderful things. Hell in order to read this we had to *invent* language. We literally built a way to understand and describe the world to one another from the ground up. It's still happening today albeit with weird slang I don't understand. TL;DR Humans have the potential to be really good(like a comfortable fire or a contained nuclear reactor) And also really bad (like a wildfire. Or a nuclear bomb)
Dude, same. It makes me so sad. This Fandom also has a big issue with fetishising us and putting our hair on thair fursonas. Iv been in several instances where I was told to "oh stop promoting segregation" 🧍🏿♀️like when did I say that shi.

I’m a black furry, and around the time I joined the fandom I was scared to express that side of me as it didn’t like a very welcoming idea, I hope there’s more that we can do to help people like me to come out of our shells and be more open with stuff amazing video btw❤
This is a really well-thought out explanation of the idea that minorities can be bigots amongst themselves. It's something that is really brushed under the rug in this fandom, and as a Black guy myself, it's super obvious to me when it rears it's ugly head. Though i still believe a lot of it comes from a lack of knowledge and understanding of inter-minority bigotry, and videos like these are a really important step of education which leads to mitigation. So in short, I appreciate you putting this together. Well done.
I see this in LGBTQ spaces as well. Often pride and other LGBTQ spaces are catered to whiteness, and white LGBTQ people get a sense of immunity for their own implicit biases, and will play their 'card' when called out on the way they exclude BIPOC people from the space. I try to shut it down within the spaces I'm in, and hold other white queers accountable for it, because I want those spaces to be open to my BIPOC friends. I think people in the fandom get this sense that because some people are bigoted to furries, that furries somehow can't also be bigoted. It sucks too because there's not really any systemic or structural oppression of furs, so conflating the experience with BIPOC experiences is kind of gross.
I've experienced a bit of racism, if you can call it that, as people say I can't be a doberman because I'm white. Well, if I may quote kurrel the raven "nobody knows your gender or race, when you're a talking animal instead of a human face"
Bigotry against someone because of their race is racism, no ifs ands or buts about it, so that does include against white people - if anything, they're the racists by implying dobermans are exclusively black and trying to gatekeep them from you, like the people who think orcs are racist depictions of black folks; it says more about a person than those they criticise if they see something non-human and their first thoughts is to compare it to a particular race. Honestly, on the internet, if you're using a non-human avatar to represent yourself, it shouldn't matter what race you are, you're free to express yourself however you like as long as you're not actively causing others actual harm - be the doberman you want to be!
I got bullied so much because of simply saying im mixed-raced (Black/white) everyone else was nice but just that one person really hurt me and as much as it was only one person i left the fandom (also because of other occurences but this was one of them). I've experienced mostly black folk being racist to us brown folk, specifically us Latinos. It is pretty shocking. You'd think by now everyone could just Idk Be normal It's always shocking to see minorities attacking minorities when you'd think as minorities, we'd all be on the same side?
Because being a minority doesn't grant any special permissions, but people think it does. Racism goes every way and there's no such thing as reverse racism.
being Asian i felt this in my SOUL, my soul. It's like being black excuse you from saying those most vile things only a KKK member from the 60s would spout.

i'm not a furry but i love your videos (i really love watching people who are enthusiastic about stuff lol), and this video is a perfect example of why. you're doin good stuff for your fandom. i got my undergrad degree in history with a focus on lgbt stuff, specifically the stonewall riots and how the post-stonewall groups like the gay liberation front and gay activists alliance went from truly _truly_ radical groups fronted by people like you mentioned, to groups that were overwhelmed by like, white academic lesbians who hated trans women, and you totally nailed it with the facts on that part. truly, my Gay Ass Heart Swells.
incidentally, i also got a degree in women's studies (and did grad work in all of this shit, i was a thesis away from a master's lol), with a focus on right-wing men's rights groups, and the stuff you're saying about how they pretend to be apolitical is ALSO backed by the academic literature. not that _they_ care about that, since academia is all like. (((them))) or whatever. but point is, they cloister themselves into these weird little groups, self-victimize, and then use the _exact same rhetoric_ they pretend to hate so much when it's used by people who actually are oppressed. wild stuff.
also i hope this message doesn't come across haughty; all i ever use my degrees for is to be like "hey, i have a lot of qualifications and you did a good job" lmao

I'm not a furry, but this video does a great job breaking down the forms of racism. More people need to watch this if they're a furry or not. good video.
As a black nb, yeah I deal with subtle racism within this community. We POC are apart of your history and we won't just go away just cause you refuse to acknowledge us. Having our own flags just gives more acceptance and makes it more welcoming place. We need these places because we POC deserve welcome just like anyone else.
I’m asexual and…to be fair…I don’t feel any connection to my flag. Maybe because I don’t know it’s history, or maybe I don’t know the struggles other asexuals have dealt with. Either way…it doesn’t make me feel disconnected for being asexual…it just makes me feel like I might be missing out of something here.
the flags are completely unnecessary, dividing people is completely counter productive and despite saying it's for acknowledgement and empowerment, all it does is come across as everyone trying to steal attention for themselves. As it is what they did the pride flag is beyond insulting and the damn thing looks like a parody of itself. No one ever looked at the rainbow pride flag and though "ah yes, the white LGBT flag" by trying to be overly categorical we're making ourselves look like loons.
@@MAWZ_GOD the pride flag itself is welcoming, to think otherwise is literally wanting a hand written invitation just to feel special. i mean the rainbow as picked on purpose it wasn't just willy nilly throw away decision. if you don't realize it's symbolism and how trying to be "more inclusive" actually undermines it idk what to tell you. it's literally the rainbow the entire spectrum do you not get that?

@@nataliemoraes2033 ..yeah, hence the “I hope this encourages people to educate themselves and help make this fandom a more welcoming place” statement, lmao
Honestly as a black person and female im saddened from how this fandom has treated me and i never felt welcome at all, you get called slurs or stereotyped for being black or as a female you get harassed just for being female and have some weirdo homo creep saying 'ew vagene' over and over or when you try to make a male friend in the fandom they suddenly have a crush on you after talking to them for a week :/
Really gross internalized homophobia here, just because you were harassed by gay men doesn't mean you get to be homophobic, you being a lesbian doesn't excuse it either. Does it suck that the fandom wasn't as well welcoming as it should? Yeah. Does it suck that there's gay men who express disgust towards women and afab people? Yeah, but their misogyny doesn't give you the right to be homophobic. You control the spaces you occupy online, if a group of folks are being dicks, BLOCK them, REPORT it if possible and surround yourself with the content and people you want to see. If you go to an in person meet up and find that you're uncomfortable for whatever reason, Leave! Hit the bricks!! You don't have to stay in places you feel unsafe and you have the right to leave whenever you want. You gotta remember the Block button is rated E for everyone, that you curative your spaces online and that you have a right to feeling safe when interacting with others. You don't have the right to be homophobic because you were harassed, it's that type of behavior that sets us all back as a community, you can call out mistreatment without being a bigot in return.
How often has this happened? I mean that with legitimate curiosity. I’m not a PoC but I haven’t had any negative interactions with furries since being in the fandom. But maybe it’s that you haven’t met the right people in the fandom? I don’t know…I’m just throwing out thoughts.
I remember watching Solar’s video a couple years back on micro aggressions and was going to leave a blatant micro aggressive comment. But she said something at the end and I didn’t! So thank you Solar Sabre for curing my racism
Over the years, I've also come to the conclusion that it's best to keep internet comments constructive, because someone else will have made _the_ obvious snarky response and enough other people will have vented their negative emotions before you.
Beautiful art. Absolutely gorgeous. Edit: YES! SOLARSABER!!!!! Glad to see her getting recognized, she's one of my favorite channels, been watching for a looooong time!
that'll never be the day. so long as a "community" this massive and down bad continues to exist people will just keep peddling freaks online. there are still kero the wolf fans despite his reception
I remember seeing that certain 180 in the person that was all about being wholesome... i will say while i havent seen all that much hate myself its mostly because I just, distance myself from that, which is something I think people should do more often, but i digress very interesting and informative video as usual!!
As a black furry artist, I often have my head in the sand when it comes to a lot of this. It isn't by choice, I do try to stay informed, but I can never find anything. Even with that, I'm lucky I haven't had any issues when people learn my race
Transvestite is still a term, it's just a person who dresses in clothing traditional to the opposite gender to the one they identify. It's becoming more common to just remove gender from specific clothing though
Looking at the Comments I'm happy to see even more Black Furries than I thought. I thought I was alone for awhile until like the past 5 years when I found at least 10 local black furries in my city. I have been a furry since 2005 and weirdly enough I felt more accepted back then than I am today. But I think I feel like that because I just been exposed to a lot more and have seen a lot more over the past 18 years being in this fandom. so far as I know it could have been a thing going on back then even in the 2000s. Great video :3
As much as I want this fandom to be accepting towards good kinds of people, no, it's impossible since we have too many types of popfurrs who raised the concept of "clicks over everying" encouraging all kinds of horrible behaviour just to gets as much attention as possible, creating more cespull to promote specific ideologies. It's too late for now, only way is to raise a new generations of furries to different standarts and let the old one be gone naturally.
As long as there are people attracted to the opposite sex in the fandom nothing will change for the better. Let's not kid ourselves and pretend there's hope.
I wanna critique one thing right off the bat. I just want to politely point out that "furry" is not a minority group. Being a minority implies you didn't choose to be one. People choose to be furries. It's important that this distinction is made. For furry to be a minority, one would have to be born a furry, which is obviously not possible. Don't get me wrong, this fandom has A LOT of minority groups within it. And I'm not saying that furries don't face mockery or targeted hate, because we do. But it's not the same kind of oppression marginalized people face. I'm queer and a furry, so I feel the difference between targeted hate towards my queer identity that I didn't choose and my furry hobby that I willing choose to partake in. It wasn't a conscious decision for me to be queer, it's just the way I am. I can drop furry at any time, but I can't just stop being queer. I love your videos and I'm glad you're covering this concept. Bigotry in the furry community is so often overlooked, racism especially. I hope I'm not coming off too harsh, I just thought it was important to point out the difference between a minority group and a wrongfully stigmatized community of hobbyists.
Homosexuals created the fandom originally as a space for other homosexuals, and homosexuals are in fact a minority. People attracted to the opposite sex messed it all up though.
I'm not a furry (Ik my pfp looks like I am one) but I think the furry community is great despite it's issues highlighted in this video. Hopefully the furry community can gradually improve over time to be more friendly with people of all colors and backgrounds!
Yeah not a furry. But got into gaming when it was considered a loser thing even back then being not white, male and a teenager got ya mocked and harassed on forums in game chats. As well as by your family for wasting your life. Theres a reason the n word is now called the gamer word unironically online. Its just gotten worse with shit like voice chat being a thing. Also was part of the early western anime craze same shit happened there too. Now rhat both are mainstream its gotten better in the larger circles of it but alot worse in the niche circles. 2016 also didnt help. Theres alot of people who do guides and videos on both that i cant watch cuz of the super casual racism, sexism and calling people mentally retarded for liking a game they dont. They always get really butt hurt and cry about it when ya call them out as well. All of adults by the way from ages 25-40. Their fans also go on the defense and call ya sensitive for not liking edgy jokes. Which is hilarious cuz thats most of my jokes. Problem is mine are funny or apologize if its too far. Theirs are just statements about what they really think that they call jokes as a defense. Also as a mixed person black people dont like me much cuz im too white to them. I was raised by my mother and stepdad who are white. Bio dad is the stereotypical deadbeat black guy who never paid child support but makes 4x more than both my parents did combine. And as part of the lgbt group no longer an active member cuz i dont go to group outings or events. Cuz they really dont like asexual people, trans people or bi people or poc unless they had to be for apperances. Or anyone that calls them out on it. I was the asshole who called them out and told them to do better. Might just be my state thing tho. Midwest is just diet south after all. It was also a decade ago so maybe its better. Anyway obviously im just giving examples of how minorities love discriminating as much as the majority to make themselves feel better. Never at the people that deserve it tho.
I honestly don’t care if people are bigoted like oh someone doesn’t like trans people like oh no what a horrible person, like i don’t care if people dislike trans people or a minority group as long as they’re not harming anyone
@@jackster10101 It's great for you that you aren't as rejection sensitive as others, but humans are all different. It doesn't make one soft to be affected by emotional abuse, particularly when it's deliberately inflicted. That's part of being human. You sound aloof and apathetic to put down others for having different brain chemistry to you. Do you see depression as "just being soft" too? It's not just someone's words. It's a large collection of people's words and if you're being told directly or not that the way you are is "unnatural" or "disgusting" every single day, it's gunna affect you psychologically. The same way we cringe seeing others get hurt in horror movies, words can hurt, or feel inadequate when broken up with. We're empathetic, emotional creatures.
You don't have to care what people call you. But if others are being hurt, it won't kill you to be empathetic and stand up for them, or at least empathise when them when you see it happening. Yes, we can try and let things not affect us, but when it does, telling someone "oh well you're just soft because that doesn't affect me" isn't helpful to anyone but the bigots who see you condoning shitty behaviour and give themselves a big pat on the back for being one of the "strong" ones. You're choosing to shit on people who are already being shit on.

I was a member of a fairly popular furry youtuber's Patreon Discord over the past year. I saw a growth of "jokes" about race over that time and was eventually kicked after calling them out directly for some direct racist statements. I know people around them will push them away and speak out more but... I also know that their actions are going to go on unpunished for way longer than they should before that will happen.

I wanna point out some important nuances with the Amir Locke situation. He was killed by a cop yes, but I think most people would find it to be justified after knowing the details. Yes it's a tragedy and yes it would be better had it not happened, however according to all the sources I can find and the body cam footage, Locke was armed and pointed a gun in the direction of the officers. People need to consider that not every situation where police kill a black individual is one worth fighting for. If you point a gun at the police and get shot, then the police did exactly what they were trained to do and they should be allowed to protect themselves from the threat of violence. The police can't know your intent, but if you have a gun what are they supposed to assume? That you're gonna give them a tip of your hat, a kiss on the cheek, and say "How Do You Do?" It's sad yes but there is likely no justice to be served. In the end Hanneman did the right thing with the information he had and punishing him would be vengeance not justice.
Good luck getting through to these bozos. Theyre so attached to their ideology that anything that happens just has to happen to support their "cause". Ironically its kinda racist to jump to the conclusion that these people get killer strictly for being black. Its indirectly implying that black people are incapable of commiting acts that leads to them getting shot by the police (like any other regular human being) Left wing racism (what I described above) is as harmful as right wing racism.
Fandom adjacency is bliss. Thankfully the angriest some furries have gotten against me was over me not being vegan. Since I am now trying to take up the orthodox fasting calendar I'll practically be vegan a third of the year now anyway...
Its the outside look to POCs being furries. Ive never experienced racism within the fandom, but being a black furry, i always get comments by outsider blacks asking me "Blacks do this shit too?" Or "you cant be black if you're into that" There's not a lot of us, but i always get excited when i find more black furries within the community. I just wish we stopped hating each other based on what we do as a hobby, it's stupid
I feel weird putting furries in like "minorities" like obviously yes being a furry is stigmatised, heavily in some cases. But its not the same as being trans, or being gay or being the target of racism or xenophobia. It is a fandom as the title says, its completely optional to be a furry, its not like you're born a furry its just a fun thing to do. I'm really tired when I wrote this so I don't know if I'm making any sense. But Essentially I think you shouldn't complain too much about being discrimintated against for being a furry, it is just a hobby, albeit a pretty in depth one.
I get you and I agree with "furries aren't an oppressed minority" statement at face value. Here's the thing though: the community is very largely comprised of lgbt+ and/or neurodivergent people, and much of the anti-furry attitude is thinly-veiled queerphobia and ableism. Which makes it quite baffling that there are a significant number of bigots in the community (though it's not so surprising once you realize a lot of those chuds are 4-chan brain-poisoned anons who love to be "ironically cringe" for the joke)
@@FunnyFany oh, yeah thats totally true. I was really tired when I wrote this, but I mean like it doesn't seem like interminority hate when looking at furries in a vacuum. There are definitely a lot of queer furries.
The fact is we don't need a black specific flag! Personally, I feel its disrespectful to say black people NEED a different flag! They should be included no matter what and shouldn't NEED a different flag, I don't care what race you are, you don't need a seperate flag! Shouldn't we have a middle eastern pride LGBTQ+ flag for the middle east due to the fact they get murdered for being not straight! No we fucking shouldn't! Everyone is valid no matter what you wanna push 😂
As a black person that just want to be seen as a person, i do question why add black to a flag that represent our sexually. I mean just with me it fells like another unneeded faction that just goes deeper. But thats just me. Its just iffy putting race in place wherr race shouldnt matter or be there. If you gay, you gay.
As a filmmaking student, I can't help but resent the fact that D. W. It's one of those moments where it's hard to separate the art from the artist because of his influence.
"What do we need a black lesbian flag for, just use the NORMAL one" My god I have seen that word so many times in the furry fandom, and the fact is, if you use the term "normal" in this way, you are part of the problem, probably.
Yeah, I kinda struggle with that. I'm growing up in an european country with way and I mean waay below 1% of black population. Last year marked the first time I've ever seen an african-american person in person in my life. I am literally yet to make eye contact with a black person. Slurs as well as the n-word are straight up just an edgy catchphrase for teenagers and the adults couldn't care less. I have a vivid memory of our class talking about different word groups stuff in our language and our teacher offered to let us write any swear words we could think of on the blackboard while she wasn't looking. All fun and games until wouldn't you guess what word appeared there. Even at the time it felt weird that someone felt confident enough to think it was okay to write that there infront of the teacher and even weirder that they were right as the teacher never adressed it. Why so vivid? It happened this week. I'm in high school. Half of us are almost 18. It was the n-word. Native american halloween costumes are still very much a thing. The word for native americans in our language is still Indian (the exact same as a person living in India). And parents teach toddlers "what does an indian say". There's this holiday in January/February where the 'three wise men' go home to home and ask for money for charity and/or for sweets if the three wise men are children. All good, yeah? Well, one of the three wise men is widely regarded as a black man. So one in three kids walks around in blackface. If this country hates anything, it's romani people. They steal shite, their homes are messy, their family trees are ladders, each family has 20 children, they're dense. And there are basically sayings around this stuff. I've had my mom tell me that my room is like at a g-roma's place when it's untidy. Holy fuck, this place is fucked up. That's just what I can name off the top of my head. Homophobia is surprisingly not that rampant because I guess there are more gay people than all people of an ethnic minority put together and I'm not so sure people know what 'transgender' means yet. But the racism is BAD bad. I'm white as hell and though I've been exposed to stuff like american politics from a fairly young age, I still have a really hard time avoiding doing offensive things which you guys probably take for granted. I do my best to learn and I still mess up. The other day a twitch streamer banned me when I got a gartic phone prompt "csgo ragequit" and I drew a kid smashing their keyboard with a text bubble that read "NI-", which was meant to suggest a slur. In my head I was poking fun at how kids resort to slurs when they lose. In the streamer's eyes I was being a racist dirtbag. And at this point I'm just ranting, but holy fuck, is this shite hard. I know I'm not in the right. It sucks to be called racist, but it probably sucks harded to be a victim of racism whether it's intentional or a misunderstanding. I try my best and I'll keep on trying my best. I'm not that much of a furry, but I am lgbt so I am still a minority who (unintentionally) discriminizes against another minority. This was a really helpful video and I'm just glad that at least I don't do this shite on purpose like these people do.
A whole lot of people are mad about the existence of FFA (or the Awoo Association), and the fact that people with more conservative or right-wing values get to have their own space. I find that concerning, because I find political hegemonies and purity spirals absolutely toxic. We already have enough drama. The following might make me a despicable person, but IMHO if people who've got views that the majority of furries view as controversial want to have their own convention, we should let them. Freedom of association belongs to everybody, including people we don't like. Furthermore, I'd like to exist in a fandom where freedom of thought, conscience and speech are respected values, and individuals are allowed to make up their own minds rather than having to pander to the widely accepted moral/political orthodoxy - or the demands of the masses.
fiddle is a victim. if someone posed as a friend so that they could get close to you and then leaked a bunch of problematic shit you said to them in confidence, that wouldn't be very cool, would it? obviously, if fiddle was saying this stuff to people's faces, then it would be different. have some compassion.
Lmao, brain dead words. Private or not, she said that stuff. It's good that stuff was leaked, because that is shitty human behavior. edit: that "YWNBAW" comment, i searched up what does those letters mean, lmao, im a man, not a woman.
@@URnightmares162let's not act like people ever have a problem with people being racist towards white people publically and getting praise for it, compared to being racist to black people (to someone who isn't black) privately
Another well done video! It's a shame that racism is a "thing" in the fandom at all, considering that so many are known by their characters, not what they look like as a person. It's even more the case now that so much of the interaction takes place online, and unless someone posts pictures or videos of their RL selves, I just think of them based on their screen name and character. Having said that, I have also personally experienced immediate changes in how people respond to me online when they DO realize that I am, in fact, a straight white woman. Not all negative, of course, but definitely not all positive and some of the private messages have made me cringe. There is still a segment of the fandom that doesn't have healthy attitudes towards women. I hope that this will eventually fade away.
1:42 seeing "New Zealand 2023" felt like a punch for a moment because I'm not used to this sort of thing happening so close to home (I thought it was an anti-trans rally or something). Then I realised it was the protests against Posie Parker entering the country and I've never felt more proud of my country. also based on you also putting Chris Hipkins and Christopher Luxom's debate at the end I'm imagining you're from New Zealand and it's cool to see so many creators turn out to be from here
I am rather open to others at times, when the topic may come up, that I am a furry. It is not to me anything to hide. And I am not a fanatic about it. It's just an interest of mine, like any other interest. One thing I do tell other though, is furries are not the Borg. We are not all one happy group. We don't all agree or get along. - This can be true of many groups. Take the LGBTQ+. Plenty in it say they want the TQ+ removed, to be it's own group, and to have the LGB be it's own group again. But not all in the LGB agree with that. Mostly those that happen to be both trans and gay. Even those who are part of the trans community don't all get along or agree with each-other. Many who are trans are often enough been called transphobic, by those that don't agree with them, despite being trans. And it can be over anything related to them. One such example would be Buck Angle. Who would call himself a trans-sexual. However, many (but hardly all) within the trans community say you can't use that word trans-sexual anymore, for they see it as insulting to them. But Buck Angle says he will keep using that word, for he identifies as such, and refuses to be bullied by others to not use it for himself anymore. And so is called transphobic by others for that, despite he is not just trans, but a trans man who had full body conformation surgery. Something not all who is trans will do, such as Blare Wight. Even plenty who are trans don't feel trans women should be in women's sports. And are called transphobic by other trans people who feel trans women should be let into women's sports. There is a fare divide among those who are trans on that very subject. Caitlyn Jenner, who was once loved by so many trans people when she came out as trans, being called brave, is now one such person now called transphobic for not supporting trans women being in women's sports. So, that be just another example. - Is no surprise to anyone with observation skills, that the mass of people who are religious don't all agree with each other. Though, to be religious, is not being in a minority. It would, in part, depending on what religion a person follows. Even those who are not religious at all, don't all agree with each other either. As it stands, the numbers of those who are not religious grows in places. In some places, those who are not, greatly outnumber those who are. So is hard to say if those who are not religious is in a minority, and can be counted in this topic. - All people are individuals. No matter what group they my be a part of, be it a big or small group. Is just the way it is. Furries, would be no exception.
One thing I hate next to bigotry in general is discrimination against folk with disabilities both mentally and physical disabilities. I have Asperger’s syndrome and I mask my condition as it was hell growing up with it.
When I traveled to Italy I was terrified of experiencing the racism that people document online, but I ended up never experiencing it. Initially I wrote it off as an overblown response to personal slights that the documented may have experienced. It was only this week that I began to consider that maybe the racism isn’t necessarily interpersonal, but systemic. Perhaps it’s the lack of opportunity or the dismissive behaviors toward POC that is the real problem. Experiences as a tourist are likely much much different than experiences as a resident; after all there’s no way I could come close to understanding what daily life is like as a POC in Europe compared to being a visitor for a comparatively short period of time
As a muslim I've faced so much racism. I've been in the fandom for 7 years and never faced racism until I converted to Islam. I've been called slurs and have gotten so many threats and bomb jokes online AND IRL. I was called a terrorist sand n word (hard R) at a con by a middle-aged white man in front of staff. Nobody ever stood up for me or even bat an eye
Sometimes im scared I make other minorities feel unwelcome around me for racist reasons but im autistic and absolutely hate being near strangers regardless of their race. Idk i just felt like i needed to tell somebody
This is the issue with these "tolerance/acceptance" ideologies. Makes people feel exactly like youre feeling. Just treat each person as you would with anyone else, without race being a factor in your perspective. Adapting your approach becausw the person is black just to be more "inclusive" is STILL fucking racist lmao. Its just not a right wing type of racism. Both are bad. Stop using twitter

Hey friend, great video but I wanted to ask to please not rewrite transexual history to fit an agenda! Marsha P Johnson has never claimed to be a trans woman, and transvestite is synonymous to cross dresser. What she did was defend cross dressers, gay men, lesbian women, and transsexual individuals, because we all existed around the same sphere at that time. I am a transexual man and this stuff is so frustrating, I get the desire to want to be an ally but spreading falsehoods as facts only increases the misinformation around transsexual history. I, a transexual man, am not the same as Marsha P Johnson in that I have a genuine medical condition, but she was an amazing ally! I do not dress up as my non biological sex for entertainment or drag purposes, it is quite offensive to conflate the two concepts.
I cannot speak on being a person of color or being in the furry fandom but i think everybody can agree with the statement "the people you surround yourself with whether willingly or not, change your opinions and ideologies". Very good video as always, While watching this video ive had many times where i was like "duh, dosen't everybody know that? " but the more examples you provide and the more i think about terrible people ive met before, i truly feel sorry for them, i only wish for them to quit being so ignorant and take a bit of time to learn about the topic before making an opinion.
A lot of this stuff seems to stem around pure ignorance and laziness it seems. God, everytime i see this topic i get flashbacks of the South Park Panderverse episode, its crazy how a vocal minority of people that can't learn about these topics can do to people just because of their ignorance and lack of knowledge.
11:11 I am a poor soul that lives close to the god forbidden Free Fur All con. And I am glad that it is a failed con. I am part of a small majority of Oklahoma Indians within the 5 civilized tribes of Oklahoma who are in the furry fandom. Which some people have been critical on the criticism on the term Red Skin, savage(and yes I have been called that on multiple occasions) and even though we are a small majority( and yes there is stigmatism towards those in the fandom within indigenous peoples within both the US indigenous within the states of Oklahoma, New Mexico [Which is where the Navajo live] and Arizona and those left behind and are living in areas of ancestral importance) which the fact that a lot of us have been targeted by our old stereotypes seen in Old Western films like any John Wayne film. But there are a small majority within indigenous cultures in the fandom as well. And about even less of that culture fit within the LGBTQ. Which is where I fit in. We have been under the category of internalized racism due to the fact that our past as people who lived in camps and ancestral beliefs have been called savages due to our overprotective nature of family.
I don't think we should really take Fiddleafox that seriously. I know, the line between jokes and serious stuff it's thin, but still, it's the Internet
Yeah the furry fandom loves to say they call out hateful behavior but they’re a little TOO tolerant of racism (honestly there’s a lot of tolerance for anything that isn’t a straight up felony or z00)… Most of the times their excuse is “staying out of drama” or “race doesn’t matter” or something equally dismissive. It’s crazy how working towards getting a fursuit was at first a way to participate in the community and maybe pass better, but after a few encounters it feels more like a safety measure so ppl can’t see my skin 😭
Omigod I've seen this shit happen so much, there will be a creator that calls someone the n word and peeps will fully and only focus on the homophobic parts. Like homophobia is fucked, but jeez.
As a poc furry just seeing the furry bigots is just hilariously awful like it makes me laugh but it also makes me feel disgusted cuz all of these type of people are huge creeps
I’ve seen racism in the weirdest ways in this fandom, from denying a person’s fursona species of choice based on skin color, to representing a whole race with a single sometimes offensive species. It’s crazy how racism can disguise itself through species and fursonas, and it’s a problem a lot of furries just don’t seem to acknowledge enough, or don’t realize.
Thanks for making this video man .as a POC furry I really do appreciate it☺️ lots of people just straight up don't believe that racism exist especially in the furry fandom in this video might open some people's eyes.... Hopefully❤
With that second one, I partly agree with it. I don’t think that illegal immigrants are much more Dangerous than your average American, or legal immigrant. But I do think it is a good idea to own a gun for self protection purposes, as long as you use it safely, and inlet when necessary it can be very helpful and even life saving if it comes down to it. Just please go to a gun safety course beforehand, so you know how to store it, and use it without accidentally shooting it. Mainly just muzzle control, keep ammo and the gun in a different safe, and NEVER EVER put your hand on the trigger UNLESS you are absolutely shure that you should shoot at whatever is and front of you, and that you are ready to shoot after. If you can’t be responsible with a gun, don’t buy one, you are danger to you and everyone else.
I should have said this first but diplomacy is always the first course of action, and a gun is not the second. Think of all the ways you could handle a distressing situation without killing some moms child, humans are more reasonable than you think, and the police response time isn’t that long in most areas.
It’s really crazy, it extents to even furry art. Im not getting into too much detail but let’s just say there is a furry artist who had an webcomic set in the 70s, a lot of the older characters seemed to dislike hyenas, and later in the comic we learn that hyenas are basically considered people of color in this furry universe. Like that just strange to me? Why bring race in to a comic about anthro animals? What separate them? Fur color? Country of origin? And it’s still happening
Well it’s not necessarily a bad thing unless it’s blatantly siding on racism. Social commentary has always been a literary element, like how predators represent minority races in Zootopia.
Your explanation of how people dont realize theres racists in the furry community feels exactly like the reaction i tend to get when ive mentioned A-phobia in the lgbt. Some people dont know it exists
I completely agree with many things stated here, and it's nice to see some calmly delivered logical arguments in this day and age. Unintentional racism is a major issue, and I myself am guilty of it. Before I found out about furries, if you asked me what the LGBTQ+ community was, I legitimately would have responded with "don't you mean a BLT?", simply because a) I had no idea what it was, and b) humour is my natural response to uncertainty. If I had said that to the wrong person, I would have been shit on harder than the toilet at a Taco Bell after a weekend sale for being "homophobic" or something simply because I didn't know what I was talking about. It's not just racism itself that needs to be acted upon, it's also the severe overreactions towards microaggressions. I would ramble on, but this is a topic that deserves its own rant.
Because I am a member of the Orthodox church and must necessarily stand by its historical teachings and dogmas, best I can do about things forbidden by the church is to extend indifference to those outside it knowing that if it's a problem that God will deal with it and only to really hold people in the church accountable to the standard I'm supposed to follow... If that's not good enough then I can't help. This is probably the biggest reason apart from the covid shutdowns that keeps me as one adjacent to the Fandom rather than as one fully into and in support of it... Also ffa was a disaster full of people I can't associate with.
Kinda similar. Not exactly a Christian myself anymore but still align with most of its teachings. I actually used to be a furry since 2011, but furries' soapbox behavior from 2016 onwards got to a point that by 2021 I just couldn't stand the community anymore and stopped interacting with it. Seeing countless figures' hypocrisy later on only reinforced in me that I may never again have any desire to participate in the fandom itself, even if I still enjoy many furry artists' works to this day and still make some art myself. I just miss the age of furry forums like Furry Pile/Furry-2-Furry where nobody was suggesting that the fandom should be any specific way or another; people were just there to share in art and RPs. But now that the internet is mostly social media-based where everyone chooses to wear their beliefs on their sleeve, the fandom has mostly devolved into either self-righteous hypocrites who have a progressive veneer and act as moral arbiters despite having skeletons in their closet, or "apolitical/nonpolitical" hypocrites trying to [not so subtly] promote right-wing extremism. Some places like RUclips and furry art sites don't seem to suffer from this nearly as much as typical social media or instant messaging platforms tend to though.
@@TurboPikachu what sect that calls itself Christian were you a part of? @@ThumbKnuckle I grew up Lutheran, but ever since I was 17 I just kinda drifted away from Christianity. I don't wanna blame my parents but church was more of an obligation than anything. @@TurboPikachu half of the Lutherans nowadays have capitulated to the culture and the other half is wondering where the Lutheran church went, I was lcms (Missouri synod Lutheran) for a few months after leaving the non-denominational megachurch Christianity my parents had raised me on, but started having some theological issues with that church compared to the Bible and church fathers it confesses to hold to, namely Christ being cut off from the father on good Friday according to them I decided to look into the case for Orthodoxy and it has now consumed my life, I would recommend at least understanding the heritage of every Christian sect as everyone in protestant circles is looking for apostolic Christianity through interpreting a collection of documents removed from their liturgical context, but keeps letting it pass under their nose by ignoring the Orthodox church because of her different teachings coming to their sects. Not only that but most of the churches mentioned in the book of acts that are around today are Orthodox. Knowing now the heritage of most major religions and practices I know where I stand. Without knowing church history nobody really has a reason to keep the faith anyway I'd say. I would also highly recommend attending an Orthodox liturgy and speaking with people at the parish as an inquirer even if you aren't going to go all in on it.

TL;DR
Humans have the potential to be really good(like a comfortable fire or a contained nuclear reactor)
And also really bad (like a wildfire. Or a nuclear bomb)

Well done.
oh hi finn
To me it's shocking that people can't put that together sooner. Humans of all races can be racist towards each other, how shocking.
>and as a Black gu-ACK!
It sucks too because there's not really any systemic or structural oppression of furs, so conflating the experience with BIPOC experiences is kind of gross.

not to mention how gross it is of them to pigeonhole black people into specific species. Like, that's just racism, straight up.
I'm black and that's stupid. Your race should have no bearing on what species your fursona is.
If that were the case, I probably couldn't be an owl
So I guess according to this person, you have to be a dog like a golden retriever?

Sonic the fox: what is furry fandom without LGBTQ? What is furry fandom without weird content or sus ones?
As a black nb, yeah I deal with subtle racism within this community. We POC are apart of your history and we won't just go away just cause you refuse to acknowledge us. Having our own flags just gives more acceptance and makes it more welcoming place. We need these places because we POC deserve welcome just like anyone else.
Yes, people don't realize just how essential flags are.

"Weirdo homo"? Are you sure you're as distanced from ism as you say?
Really gross internalized homophobia here, just because you were harassed by gay men doesn't mean you get to be homophobic, you being a lesbian doesn't excuse it either. Does it suck that the fandom wasn't as well welcoming as it should? Yeah. Does it suck that there's gay men who express disgust towards women and afab people? Yeah, but their misogyny doesn't give you the right to be homophobic.
You control the spaces you occupy online, if a group of folks are being dicks, BLOCK them, REPORT it if possible and surround yourself with the content and people you want to see.
@@science_bear Ironically most of the furries are homosexual. Even more ironically, there's a massive misogynistic scale from them.
Homosexual queers started the fandom and people attracted to the opposite sex are why we're seeing the racists and predators.
Homosexuals created the fandom originally as a space for other homosexuals, and homosexuals are in fact a minority.
People attracted to the opposite sex messed it all up though.

Its indirectly implying that black people are incapable of commiting acts that leads to them getting shot by the police (like any other regular human being)

Furthermore, I'd like to exist in a fandom where freedom of thought, conscience and speech are respected values, and individuals are allowed to make up their own minds rather than having to pander to the widely accepted moral/political orthodoxy - or the demands of the masses.
nah, no association
they should stick with actual conservatives to see why furries (and every space) bans conservatives
I think racism is the least problematic thing in the furry fandom, And that says something
Bruh, not the last video about fiddlefox having the comment section full of racists and transphobes in her support.
fiddle is a victim. if someone posed as a friend so that they could get close to you and then leaked a bunch of problematic shit you said to them in confidence, that wouldn't be very cool, would it? obviously, if fiddle was saying this stuff to people's faces, then it would be different. have some compassion.
YWNBAW
she did nothing wrong, everything she said was private
I'm now realizing this video is about actual racism and not discrimination between different spieces of furries and I'm kinda disapointed
-
This can be true of many groups.
-
Is no surprise to anyone with observation skills, that the mass of people who are religious don't all agree with each other.
-
All people are individuals. No matter what group they my be a part of, be it a big or small group. Is just the way it is. Furries, would be no exception.

"i wonder what this furry-fandom racism has that's different from other types of racism"
Experiences as a tourist are likely much much different than experiences as a resident; after all there’s no way I could come close to understanding what daily life is like as a POC in Europe compared to being a visitor for a comparatively short period of time
Some of the points are debatable.
Muslim isn’t a race
n word for muslim? what?

Yeah the furry fandom loves to say they call out hateful behavior but they’re a little TOO tolerant of racism (honestly there’s a lot of tolerance for anything that isn’t a straight up felony or z00)…
Most of the times their excuse is “staying out of drama” or “race doesn’t matter” or something equally dismissive.

Furries in the racism fandom vid comes out when?
I am happy to have Fiddle as a part of a community and exposing the problems out of that community

I'm not a furry but furry video essays are lit
Step 1: Denial
@justarandomhorrorfan7899 haha maybe in another world, I'm definitely adjacent in spirit. Unfortunately I'm more weeby than furry.
I know that Catholicism and most protestant denominations are eroding from the inside right now and those that aren't didn't have much binding ecclesiology to begin with and that's one of the reasons why I did become Orthodox recently.
@@ThumbKnuckle I grew up Lutheran, but ever since I was 17 I just kinda drifted away from Christianity. I don't wanna blame my parents but church was more of an obligation than anything.
I just feel like I'd be more likely to return to the religion and consistently attend church if my mother wasn't trying to barge into every aspect of my life
@@TurboPikachu half of the Lutherans nowadays have capitulated to the culture and the other half is wondering where the Lutheran church went, I was lcms (Missouri synod Lutheran) for a few months after leaving the non-denominational megachurch Christianity my parents had raised me on, but started having some theological issues with that church compared to the Bible and church fathers it confesses to hold to, namely Christ being cut off from the father on good Friday according to them I decided to look into the case for Orthodoxy and it has now consumed my life, I would recommend at least understanding the heritage of every Christian sect as everyone in protestant circles is looking for apostolic Christianity through interpreting a collection of documents removed from their liturgical context, but keeps letting it pass under their nose by ignoring the Orthodox church because of her different teachings coming to their sects.
