The scene where Carroll Shelby explains Mr Ford why he shouldn't fire him after their first defeat at Le Man's is probably the best scene in the movie, needless to say the movie is full of epic scenes
Shelby says that they've got Ferrari scared because he's never seen anything go that fast - and it wasn't one of HIS cars doing it - and then he says that all they have to do is (if I recall correctly - just saw it the first time last night) beat the durability problem and actually get the GT40s to the end of the race. And then he says "You're welcome." I couldn't help myself. I just said out loud in the theater - "That sonovabitch has some BALLS." I must've just said what everyone was thinking, cause I got a laugh out of it. :D
Honestly I don’t think the antagonist of this movie was Ferrari, it was Ford themselves. My reason being: they kept constraining Shelby during the Lemans race, and didn’t want Miles to reach his full potential because he wasn’t the ideal “Ford driver.” Even after they won, Enzo Ferrari nodded to Ken after the race, showing that they were just opponents and Miles gained Ferrari’s respect. (this is solely for the movie and does not reflect actual events that took place at the time)

What I love about this scene is when Iacocca says Enzo Ferrari will go down in history as the greatest car manufacturer of all time and none of the Ford executives even question that statement for a second because everybody knows.
What's more you can see most of them shift weight after he says that like, showing discomfort. Not only did they all know that statement to be true, but the forced realization made them all physically uncomfortable. Details people. Love this movie.
It makes a change to actually see a Sales Manager taking responsibility. He identified their thinking was wrong, he found Ferrari's weakness (bankruptcy) and recognised Ford's strength in reliability and still being able to sell enough cars to keep the cashflow solvent. Clever man.
True story...my dad sold cars for 40 years and for several of those years, he worked for an owner who was somewhat of a local celebrity here in Wisconsin. During one sales meeting, he asked people for ideas on how to improve sales. A gentleman spoke up and the owner immediately said, "You're getting divorced. You can't even keep a family together. Why would I listen to you?" Yes, people like this exist.

Berntahl is one of those actors who has an amazing screen prescence, is very well liked and regarded by other actors and the audience and yet somehow still feels underrepresented. Such a great actor

Japanese realize after fail on some japanese supercars like nissan mid4, honda nsx, mitsubishi GTO, there is no future of japanese supercar. Actually japanese built some high performance group C cars like Toyota TSO and Nissan, but still people doesnt appreciate much japanese brand in supercar culture. The R32 GTR dominating all races at Australia, Japan, Hongkong, that $30,000 sports car smokes >$60,000 ferrari 348, testarossa, 512, etc Doesnt compare to NSX, coz it will shame 355, 360, even gallardo in circuit race

Thus lowering the price of corvettes down to levels people were willing to buy. As far as I know Japan never tried any strategy like that. I own 2x 3000Gt VR4's and for 90's tech they were amazing. If they had figured out a way to get the price down a few more thousand in the 90's I think we would still see new models. The GTR shows Japan still has the ability, the new Supra shows they dont have the desire to.
@@Archadies The Lexus LFA. The thing was stupid expensive, yeah. 375,000 a copy. Almost all of that was the actual material cost of building one. No-one, not even other Super and Hypercar manufacturers build their cars the way the LFA was. The R&D that went into it was considered R&D for the entire Toyota group. Toyota was trying to find ways to ramp up volume production of carbon fiber, new engine management systems, crash technology. A lot of it found it's way back into the Toyota line. Their carbon fiber production system works and is better than the prepreg everyone else uses, they just never produced enough of it in volume to bring the cost down per unit with scale. The weight savings just isn't needed yet for the cash infusion for mass roll out over the entire Toyota line. Thus why the material cost was so high for the LFA. And no, Japan doesn't want to build a supercar. They have local pressure not to. Japan has just as many gear heads as everywhere else. But just look at a map of the place. 95% of the population live in cities, the Tokyo metropolitan area is 36 million people. A full third of the country's population live in one megacity. Supercars are seen as a nuisance at best by most of the population when everyone is so packed together. The days of the Wangan heyday are long gone. The only track left near a populated area that isn't an hours long drive is Suzuka Circuit, and only because Japan cannot get rid of Suzuka. It'd be like Britain getting rid of Silverstone, the country would riot. Suzuka is racing royalty.
Japan CAN come CLOSE to making a "Supercar" but somehow always fuck it up. Mazda could have taken the RX7 in to the history books, for a moment they thought about a next gen, mid engined machine.....but no, they went with sensible....but that's rarely inspired. Toyota could have taken the MR2 idea, and made a Japanese Ferrari....still waiting. Nissan scored a huge coup with the GTR, and it's an amazing machine, has been for 50 years.....but there Z cars, where they at? Even the NSX! It's fantastic, and lightning quick....but it could be more. So much more. But Honda just....miss. The first NSX showed that. Brilliant until you see the people involved, the leeway they were given, and the money Honda was willing to spend....then it's suddenly rather mediocre. These are good business decisions, but bad for following passion projects and throwing all sense aside. But that's what you gotta do to make an F-40, or Countach, or F1, or EB110. Something in the Japanese character doesn't like it, I think. It's a shame, because if I was a Japanese auto maker, and had a competitor like Yamaha right there will to work with me (some the engines Yamaha have developed for other manufacturers have been beyond phenomenal )... I'd be knocking on their door asking they wanted help on the engine and engineering for this project bankrupt myself ten times over, basically every day until they said yes. Sure, we'll go broke, but what fucking car you could make!
One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when they go to the Ferrari “factory” we had just seen the ford factory where you had hundreds of guys making thousands of cars then you get to Ferrari you have a couple of dozen guys meticulously building individual parts to the car and you know the guy making the part is some guy that knows everything there is to know about that particular part like each car is itself supposed to be a masterpiece. I know it’s a small detail but I love it.
Just saw this last night. Great film. If you are a race fan of any kind, it's worth the ticket price. History and culture combined with the sights, speed, and sounds of this film are enough to make this movie one you won't want to miss! Acting is great as well. New life is effectively breathed into these heros of racing's past with believable passion. Can't say enough great things about it, but I'll stop here. Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy!
ALL the scenes were cool, this was a very very excellent flick, don’t remember the last movie I saw that was anywhere as good. Please more auto racing movies Hollywood, so many incredible stories to tell.
I remember watching the race on TV when I was a kid. Seeing the Ford GT's win, it was awesome! I never really knew how Ford did it as Ferrari was so dominant at Lemans and other races. Never thought they'd make a movie about it.
Ferrari never made a reliable race car. The made incredibly spec'ed cars, but they were never reliable in 24 hour races. Porsche proved that with the 917 series cars. The 917 put Ford back in the closet of history.
Bruce Maddox - They certainly employed a safety in numbers tactic that Ford also took on. I don’t think it was really possible back then to have a fast and reliable racing car.

Jon Bernthal, Matt Damon, Christian Bale and even the Henry Ford’s actor, they all gave outstanding performances in this movie, heck even the kid (Ken’s son) was great

Here's the thing about Ferrari that people don't seem to understand. Ferrari is NOT a car manufacturer. It is a racing team that makes car on the side to get money to keep on racing. In fact, Ferrari is a company that makes money off things that are not cars, in such a massive scale that its incredible, Ferrari sells jackets, hats, shirts... everything you can think of, with the Ferrari logo on it. And they get an insane amount of money from all that. Enzo Ferrari didn't give a damn about his car manufacturing division, he saw that as a source of income to keep on racing at LeMans, and at Formula 1.
Before I see it I want to know, is Holman and Moody even mentioned in it? After all they're the ones that took the original GT40 and reengineered it into the winning car it was from the original MK1 that Lee Holman described as an "abortion".
What really shines on this movie is not about beating a small car company. But Mr ford realizing what he needed to do and making it happen. The best leaders are usually those who listen to those he surrounds himself with. Carroll had the grit and know how and ford gave him the way. Great movie and story
Ferrari has by far the longest and most sustained period of being a top team in F1. Where are the former champions like Williams, McLaren, Lotus, Alfa Romeo, Renault, Brabham, Tyrell etc these days? What Ferrari do is remarkable and they should be respected.

I watched this last week on an IMAX 2D version. That extra cost of watching this film on this version was simply mind blowing. The track scenes are just brilliant.
Really good movie. Well acted and filmed. No cgi or anything like that. Highly recommend if your a car buff or just like good movies. Those engines sounded awesome.
This video should be used to start every Marketing class in every university. It's not always about just MAKING a product, it's about making a feeling, an emotion, a psychological connection that your customers have TO your product. If you try selling something to someone just for the benefits, some people won't care. But if you satisfy their emotional needs - like a feeling of pride, or satisfaction, that's what really sells things.
Though it takes huge artistic liberties for the sake of the silver screen it still has a great story loosely based around the actual Ford v Ferrari battles at Le Mans. The casting was spot on and it must be said that Christian Bale looks the stamp of Ken Miles with the skid lid and shades on. Great scenes throughout and well worth repeat viewing.
Which isn't surprising for them to alter his character to make it more dramatic, it's a movie after all. Still, if he has surviving family members, I have to wonder how they felt about seeing him portrayed that way.
Acctually i like his idea for 3 ford gt at finish line, it will really boost up the brand image for ford at that time. But i really dont like his act to ken miles when forbidd ken to drive (i think this is really happend irl). Ken is untameable, but the PR guy can give him manner class as brand repressentative at public, not kick him out so fast. Not rational enough even we dont see all the incident because timeskip.

Josh Lucas as Leo Beebe? Yeah I wanted to strangle him to. The sign you know an actor nailed the character, when you can hate the characters guts so much you have a hard time separating the actor from it and when you see that actor in a different role, you still see him or her as that character, in this case Leo Beebe.
The ironic part of your comment about VP Beebe is that in reality, he was a very respected person and held some prestigious jobs in his life. Leo Beebe not only didn't despise Ken Miles, he was quoted as saying he thought a great deal of the man and his talents! Gotta learn to separate reality from the movie!

The way Ford (the company) is depicted in this movie is 100 percent how the auto industry is IRL. I worked at an OEM for about 5 years and it's spot on.
This movie was spectacular. When we're not busy getting ready for.our first baby to come along, I really need to sit my wife down and have her watch it, cause it really is just SO good.

@@ACMEpowersports You know too little to comment on this. The tank was made from a material that expands a bit during the race. They knew that and they left a margin for the expantion. Unfortunately it wasn't big enough. That's why the tanks were fine in all pre-race scrutineering inspections. But it expanded beyond expectations during the race. Don't comment if you only read the news headlines and not the articles and details. (PS: I'm not a Ford fan in GTE)
Tadej Hauptman I know a lot. It happened to both both cars. You’re fooling yourself if you think it was an accident. Fuel tank capacity is not something you take lightly in endurance racing. This isn’t Fords first rodeo. They didn’t accidentally spec the wrong size fuel bladder. It allowed for one less stop over the course of the race. They didn’t have the pace and tried to win it on fuel economy. They also didn’t protest the ruling. All you need to know.
I think it's worth noting that while initially opposed to the idea, the Suit actually took it seriously after hearing the full pitch. Of course, the way he went about trying to accomplish the common goal of winning Le Mans was boneheaded, but we shouldn't judge him too hard as of this single scene
I actually saw the Cobras & Ford GT40s run at Sebring in 1965. Met Jim Hall, creator of the Chaparral that won that day along with Graham Hill, and Pedro Rodriguez. I only SAW Shelby. When Matt Damon was announced as playing Shelby, I said I'll not watch this movie. Went back on that & it ended up being a great movie & Damon did Shelby proud. It wasn't just a great racing movie, it was a great movie. Period
Jim Hall chapparals were better than Ford and Ferrari they were a private company if GM had backed them fully with the Chevrolet engines they would have destroyed everything in site. Automatic transmission the first ever to win a race technical innovations that were ahead of everyone Jim was a graduate of Cal Tech and Roger Penske was his crew chief at the race.
@@paulgrieshop5024 - Jim Hall was a very gifted man who capitalized on his knowledge, foresight and creativity. He was ahead of the pack in resourcefulness. I wouldn't go so far as saying his cars were better than Ford or Ferrari. They beat his cars far more than he beat theirs. His company was tiny compared to F & F, not any bigger than Shelby American. He had all the engines he needed from GM so they wouldn't really couldn't have helped him any further. Not all his creations were bullet proof, either. The J2 "Sucker Car" was a failure, even though it formed the basis for future use of ground effects in F-1. The only reason Hall gave up on trying to make a Can Am winner is he was constantly penalized for things that made most of his cars superior, and he just decided it wasn't worth the effort anymore.

Carroll Shelby even said that. They won a few races and they almost won a few more like the 24 hours of Daytona they were so far ahead but an accident cost them . Jim used his ground effects in 1980 won the Indianapolis 500 Johnny Rutherford 3rd win the yellow submarine it was called one of the most beautiful winners in the history of the race.
@@paulgrieshop5024 - GM was the issue -they lied about not directly supporting racing when the big 3 agreed not to. Ford became aware of this and said screw this, we are going racing. GM didn't accept Shelby to supply engines for the Cobra, but that was understandable because the Cobra was a direct threat to the Corvette. Then they backed out of the deal to supply engines, etc. for the Cheetah, possibly for the same reason. The Scaglietti Corvette was also shot down by Sr. GM management. As I have maintained, GM Sr. managers are their own worst enemies, strangling any moves to go outside Corporate wishes! Ford on the other hand made big on the success of the Cobra, the Sunbeam Tiger, the Pantera and the TVR Griffith. Ford had the intelligence and insight to do whatever made sense to promote their products, where GM was rather blind to that philosophy.

Carroll was friends with Ed Cole and wanted Chevrolet for the cobra but they had a commitment to Corvette Ed tried to convince Oldsmobile or Cadillac but they wouldn't do it. Carroll hated ford executives he loved Lee Iacocca that was the only one he trusted. Zora Duntov was a friend of Carroll's he was a genius but was also knew he only do so much. But the real story with ford racing was Dan Gurney he is the one who got ford to give Colin Chapman the engines for Lotus in 1962 team Lotus in the 60's was the team to beat after that. A technical advanced car with a better engine than what was first had they were just like the Green Bay Packers ironically with the same colors Green and Yellow
Some of these scenes are really good. If you have never sat behind or in front of a big V8 motor racing in against others then you have never truly lived. Not everybody can do it.
New Zealand drivers Denny Hulme, Chris Amon and Bruce Mclaren were part of that famous campaign in '66' as a kiwi i have always been proud of their win.
I saw the movie just the other night. They, like most movie makers, have taken a fair amount of poetic licence. The high point of the movie is Christian Bale. He is a perfect Ken Miles, a truly brilliant driver who was never given his due. I was surprised at the way they played Phil Remington down to make it appear that he was little more than a salesman. In reality, Remington was responsible for much of the development of the GT40, a project which he hated. Remington really wanted to build cars for Shelby American, not Ford. He knew what Ford would do and wanted no part of it. When Shelby built the first Cobras, only one part failed in the first race. It was the bearing carrier on one of the rear wheels. Remington took it apart, ordered some material and handmade a pair of replacements. Shelby never had another carrier fail while racing. That was Remington's forte. He was a self trained instinctive engineer.
@Scooter Tramp - Shelby never had another bearing carrier fail because he replaced that weak stub axle setup that was ok for a small torque six cylinder engine but could not handle the torque of a potent V8. Just one of many improvements and equipment upgrades made by Shelby American, who too many Brits still think just shoved an American V8 into it! The Cobra required much more than that to make a true, reliable and effective racer and street car.
@Scooter Tramp - Not sure where you are getting your info but it contradicts much of what I know and have read about regarding Phil Remington. He not only liked the GT40 project, he had said it was his favorite! He wasn't big on the street Cobra and didn't care for the Daytona Coupe at all during its development, along with most of Shelby's crew. Remington saw Shelby's connection as a means to get to Ford. He realized Shelby American was a small time business where Ford could offer more in the way of his career development, so he embraced Shelby American as a means to eventually hook up with Ford, on a much bigger, more profitable scale. Try reading the Road & Track story on the internet called "The Life of Phil Remington" and you will have a much clearer, more accurate picture of this incredibly gifted man and what he contributed to Shelby American.
There an old movie 'The Killers' and an episode of the tv show 'Run For Your Life' which has a race scene where one of the cars is an AC Cobra and it goes out of control because of failure of what appears to be the right rear wheel bearing assembly..
Matt Damon and Christian Bale both were excellent but often overlooked is the role Jon Bernthal played as Lee Iaccoca, his acting was fantastic as well
Ferrari vs Lamborghini would be another good movie. They were neighbors, and Lamborghini build tractors, but was the best with transmissions. He told the Ferrari guy about some suggestions. Ferrari told him to stick to tractors.....well, Lamborghini started making cars.

To some. To everyone else they are driving appliances. They go from her to there, just as a microwave makes the temperature of something go from here to there. It's why manual transmissions are dying out. Just more inputs to get the same outcome. And for the record...electric cars are potentially FAR faster than ICE cars. Watching a 4 door Tesla that weighs as much as a pickup completely brutalize all but the very pinnacle of exotic cars at the dragstrip is an eye opener. There is plenty to be passionate about with regard to that sort of performance.
Point taken but I'm really talking about aesthetics. To stand on the bridge over turn one at Laguna Seca while a Cosworth-powered, vintage F1 car screams by underneath your feet is an experience almost beyond description.
Are you saying you can't make evs passionate? Because I'm pretty sure Rivacs cars are more passionate than basically anything Toyota make at the moment. The packaging freedom associated with ev technology can allow aspiring car designers, such as myself, the opportunity to create more expressive and emotional cars in the future. There's also the fact that from a performance standpoint, evs walk all over ice cars, there's no competition. Ice cars often have a lot of character in their sounds, but evs moving forward will have their own expressive sounds.
@@mchristr Well, again, in terms of aesthetics, ev tech can make cars even more exciting and beautiful, because you can do things like having a really low front end, or in the case of the jaguar I pace, moving the a pillar forward to give it more exotic and dynamic proportions. Such a great scene, and Tracy Letts acting in which he says not a word but becomes the focus of Jon Bernthall's lines, and the gentle sound track i8ntroduced at the right point made it extra special, as it added the emotion of hope, and sets the tone for the movies story to unfold.
This movie is great just because it made Ford look like the good guys. Ferrari was a small shop in Italy that went toe to toe with a major conglomerate. Enzo sat down at the sale with his village lawyer and stared down a literal plane full of lawyers. And he told them no and just walked out.
I know it has been 2 months since posted But... Enzo only did that AFTER he secured the deal he wanted with Fiat. Otherwise, he would have taken the Ford offer. Enzo had no other option. Context matters.
Hollywood, listen up! This is the type of movie we deserve. I didn’t see a frame of stupid “woke” progressive politics in it. I understand it’s impossible to create a “historically accurate” movie but this is as close as you can get (according to the historical sources out there.)

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the role of the press and of the media takes center stage in that movie. The Pentagon Papers were something that needed to be published by any means necessary, because it was the only way to expose the Nixon administration’s corruption involving the Vietnam War. That sort of thing still happens today. Drawing a parallel to the past with the issues of today isn’t “woke”. It’s good filmmaking.

Enzo Ferrari was actually willing to sell his company to Ford,under the condition that he would keep the total control of the "Scuderia" (the motorsport division),but the bean counters at Ford,changed the contract at the last minute and put a clause in,which would give Ford the right to inverne with the "Scuderia",if they thought it was necessary. When Ferrari´s lawyers discovered the new clause,old Enzo went ballistic and cancelled the deal,not to mention he insulted Henry Ford II,who took this whole thing personally and started the Le Mans project,in order to humilate Ferrari. In the end the whole shabang cost Ford over 150 millions in today´s money and we got a legendary race car with the GT40.

The scene where Carroll Shelby explains Mr Ford why he shouldn't fire him after their first defeat at Le Man's is probably the best scene in the movie, needless to say the movie is full of epic scenes
Shelby says that they've got Ferrari scared because he's never seen anything go that fast - and it wasn't one of HIS cars doing it - and then he says that all they have to do is (if I recall correctly - just saw it the first time last night) beat the durability problem and actually get the GT40s to the end of the race. And then he says "You're welcome."
I couldn't help myself. I just said out loud in the theater - "That sonovabitch has some BALLS."

Honestly I don’t think the antagonist of this movie was Ferrari, it was Ford themselves. My reason being: they kept constraining Shelby during the Lemans race, and didn’t want Miles to reach his full potential because he wasn’t the ideal “Ford driver.” Even after they won, Enzo Ferrari nodded to Ken after the race, showing that they were just opponents and Miles gained Ferrari’s respect.

I felt that nod of respect from Enzo was good enough for Miles in the end though. Still always good to see that kind of sportsmanship.

What I love about this scene is when Iacocca says Enzo Ferrari will go down in history as the greatest car manufacturer of all time and none of the Ford executives even question that statement for a second because everybody knows.
What's more you can see most of them shift weight after he says that like, showing discomfort. Not only did they all know that statement to be true, but the forced realization made them all physically uncomfortable. Details people. Love this movie.

Thus lowering the price of corvettes down to levels people were willing to buy. As far as I know Japan never tried any strategy like that. I own 2x 3000Gt VR4's and for 90's tech they were amazing. If they had figured out a way to get the price down a few more thousand in the 90's I think we would still see new models. The GTR shows Japan still has the ability, the new Supra shows they dont have the desire to.
@@Archadies The Lexus LFA. The thing was stupid expensive, yeah. 375,000 a copy. Almost all of that was the actual material cost of building one. No-one, not even other Super and Hypercar manufacturers build their cars the way the LFA was. The R&D that went into it was considered R&D for the entire Toyota group. Toyota was trying to find ways to ramp up volume production of carbon fiber, new engine management systems, crash technology. A lot of it found it's way back into the Toyota line. Their carbon fiber production system works and is better than the prepreg everyone else uses, they just never produced enough of it in volume to bring the cost down per unit with scale. The weight savings just isn't needed yet for the cash infusion for mass roll out over the entire Toyota line. Thus why the material cost was so high for the LFA. And no, Japan doesn't want to build a supercar. They have local pressure not to. Japan has just as many gear heads as everywhere else. But just look at a map of the place. 95% of the population live in cities, the Tokyo metropolitan area is 36 million people. A full third of the country's population live in one megacity. Supercars are seen as a nuisance at best by most of the population when everyone is so packed together. The days of the Wangan heyday are long gone. The only track left near a populated area that isn't an hours long drive is Suzuka Circuit, and only because Japan cannot get rid of Suzuka. It'd be like Britain getting rid of Silverstone, the country would riot. Suzuka is racing royalty.
Japan CAN come CLOSE to making a "Supercar" but somehow always fuck it up.
Mazda could have taken the RX7 in to the history books, for a moment they thought about a next gen, mid engined machine.....but no, they went with sensible....but that's rarely inspired.
Toyota could have taken the MR2 idea, and made a Japanese Ferrari....still waiting.
Nissan scored a huge coup with the GTR, and it's an amazing machine, has been for 50 years.....but there Z cars, where they at?
Even the NSX! It's fantastic, and lightning quick....but it could be more. So much more. But Honda just....miss. The first NSX showed that. Brilliant until you see the people involved, the leeway they were given, and the money Honda was willing to spend....then it's suddenly rather mediocre.
These are good business decisions, but bad for following passion projects and throwing all sense aside.
But that's what you gotta do to make an F-40, or Countach, or F1, or EB110.

It's a shame, because if I was a Japanese auto maker, and had a competitor like Yamaha right there will to work with me (some the engines Yamaha have developed for other manufacturers have been beyond phenomenal )... I'd be knocking on their door asking they wanted help on the engine and engineering for this project bankrupt myself ten times over, basically every day until they said yes.

One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when they go to the Ferrari “factory” we had just seen the ford factory where you had hundreds of guys making thousands of cars then you get to Ferrari you have a couple of dozen guys meticulously building individual parts to the car and you know the guy making the part is some guy that knows everything there is to know about that particular part like each car is itself supposed to be a masterpiece. I know it’s a small detail but I love it.
Just saw this last night. Great film. If you are a race fan of any kind, it's worth the ticket price. History and culture combined with the sights, speed, and sounds of this film are enough to make this movie one you won't want to miss! Acting is great as well. New life is effectively breathed into these heros of racing's past with believable passion. Can't say enough great things about it, but I'll stop here. Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy!

I remember watching the race on TV when I was a kid. Seeing the Ford GT's win, it was awesome! I never really knew how Ford did it as Ferrari was so dominant at Lemans and other races. Never thought they'd make a movie about it.
Ferrari never made a reliable race car. The made incredibly spec'ed cars, but they were never reliable in 24 hour races. Porsche proved that with the 917 series cars. The 917 put Ford back in the closet of history.
Bruce Maddox - They certainly employed a safety in numbers tactic that Ford also took on. I don’t think it was really possible back then to have a fast and reliable racing car.

Here's the thing about Ferrari that people don't seem to understand. Ferrari is NOT a car manufacturer. It is a racing team that makes car on the side to get money to keep on racing. In fact, Ferrari is a company that makes money off things that are not cars, in such a massive scale that its incredible, Ferrari sells jackets, hats, shirts... everything you can think of, with the Ferrari logo on it. And they get an insane amount of money from all that. Enzo Ferrari didn't give a damn about his car manufacturing division, he saw that as a source of income to keep on racing at LeMans, and at Formula 1.
I believe selling road going cars has to do more with homologation than supporting a racing habit.
This movie was incredible. The kind of movie I’m excited to watch with my son when he’s old enough.

The best leaders are usually those who listen to those he surrounds himself with. Carroll had the grit and know how and ford gave him the way. Great movie and story

I watched this last week on an IMAX 2D version. That extra cost of watching this film on this version was simply mind blowing. The track scenes are just brilliant.
Really good movie. Well acted and filmed. No cgi or anything like that. Highly recommend if your a car buff or just like good movies. Those engines sounded awesome.
This video should be used to start every Marketing class in every university. It's not always about just MAKING a product, it's about making a feeling, an emotion, a psychological connection that your customers have TO your product. If you try selling something to someone just for the benefits, some people won't care. But if you satisfy their emotional needs - like a feeling of pride, or satisfaction, that's what really sells things.

Though it takes huge artistic liberties for the sake of the silver screen it still has a great story loosely based around the actual Ford v Ferrari battles at Le Mans. The casting was spot on and it must be said that Christian Bale looks the stamp of Ken Miles with the skid lid and shades on. Great scenes throughout and well worth repeat viewing.
Jon Hamm would have added his moxie to the same role!

Ken is untameable, but the PR guy can give him manner class as brand repressentative at public, not kick him out so fast. Not rational enough even we dont see all the incident because timeskip.

The sign you know an actor nailed the character, when you can hate the characters guts so much you have a hard time separating the actor from it and when you see that actor in a different role, you still see him or her as that character, in this case Leo Beebe.

Leo Beebe not only didn't despise Ken Miles, he was quoted as saying he thought a great deal of the man and his talents! Gotta learn to separate reality from the movie!

@@ACMEpowersports You know too little to comment on this. The tank was made from a material that expands a bit during the race. They knew that and they left a margin for the expantion. Unfortunately it wasn't big enough. That's why the tanks were fine in all pre-race scrutineering inspections. But it expanded beyond expectations during the race. Don't comment if you only read the news headlines and not the articles and details. (PS: I'm not a Ford fan in GTE)
Tadej Hauptman I know a lot. It happened to both both cars. You’re fooling yourself if you think it was an accident. Fuel tank capacity is not something you take lightly in endurance racing. This isn’t Fords first rodeo. They didn’t accidentally spec the wrong size fuel bladder. It allowed for one less stop over the course of the race. They didn’t have the pace and tried to win it on fuel economy. They also didn’t protest the ruling. All you need to know.

I actually saw the Cobras & Ford GT40s run at Sebring in 1965. Met Jim Hall, creator of the Chaparral that won that day along with Graham Hill, and Pedro Rodriguez. I only SAW Shelby. When Matt Damon was announced as playing Shelby, I said I'll not watch this movie. Went back on that & it ended up being a great movie & Damon did Shelby proud. It wasn't just a great racing movie, it was a great movie. Period
Jim Hall chapparals were better than Ford and Ferrari they were a private company if GM had backed them fully with the Chevrolet engines they would have destroyed everything in site. Automatic transmission the first ever to win a race technical innovations that were ahead of everyone Jim was a graduate of Cal Tech and Roger Penske was his crew chief at the race.
@@paulgrieshop5024 - Jim Hall was a very gifted man who capitalized on his knowledge, foresight and creativity. He was ahead of the pack in resourcefulness. I wouldn't go so far as saying his cars were better than Ford or Ferrari. They beat his cars far more than he beat theirs. His company was tiny compared to F & F, not any bigger than Shelby American. He had all the engines he needed from GM so they wouldn't really couldn't have helped him any further. Not all his creations were bullet proof, either. The J2 "Sucker Car" was a failure, even though it formed the basis for future use of ground effects in F-1. The only reason Hall gave up on trying to make a Can Am winner is he was constantly penalized for things that made most of his cars superior, and he just decided it wasn't worth the effort anymore.
@@Loulovesspeed what I am saying the technical innovations the chapparals had were steps ahead. GM would have spent the money and taken them into there fold they would have been unstoppable. Carroll Shelby even said that. They won a few races and they almost won a few more like the 24 hours of Daytona they were so far ahead but an accident cost them . Jim used his ground effects in 1980 won the Indianapolis 500 Johnny Rutherford 3rd win the yellow submarine it was called one of the most beautiful winners in the history of the race.
@@paulgrieshop5024 - GM was the issue -they lied about not directly supporting racing when the big 3 agreed not to. Ford became aware of this and said screw this, we are going racing. GM didn't accept Shelby to supply engines for the Cobra, but that was understandable because the Cobra was a direct threat to the Corvette. Then they backed out of the deal to supply engines, etc. for the Cheetah, possibly for the same reason. The Scaglietti Corvette was also shot down by Sr. GM management. As I have maintained, GM Sr. managers are their own worst enemies, strangling any moves to go outside Corporate wishes! Ford on the other hand made big on the success of the Cobra, the Sunbeam Tiger, the Pantera and the TVR Griffith. Ford had the intelligence and insight to do whatever made sense to promote their products, where GM was rather blind to that philosophy.
@@Loulovesspeed GM was threatened by the government to be broken up so in 1963 they pulled out of racing and really didn't come back until 1972 officially. Carroll was friends with Ed Cole and wanted Chevrolet for the cobra but they had a commitment to Corvette Ed tried to convince Oldsmobile or Cadillac but they wouldn't do it. Carroll hated ford executives he loved Lee Iacocca that was the only one he trusted. Zora Duntov was a friend of Carroll's he was a genius but was also knew he only do so much. But the real story with ford racing was Dan Gurney he is the one who got ford to give Colin Chapman the engines for Lotus in 1962 team Lotus in the 60's was the team to beat after that. A technical advanced car with a better engine than what was first had they were just like the Green Bay Packers ironically with the same colors Green and Yellow

The entire movie is a ‘cool scene’
I saw the movie just the other night. They, like most movie makers, have taken a fair amount of poetic licence. The high point of the movie is Christian Bale. He is a perfect Ken Miles, a truly brilliant driver who was never given his due. I was surprised at the way they played Phil Remington down to make it appear that he was little more than a salesman. In reality, Remington was responsible for much of the development of the GT40, a project which he hated. Remington really wanted to build cars for Shelby American, not Ford. He knew what Ford would do and wanted no part of it. When Shelby built the first Cobras, only one part failed in the first race. It was the bearing carrier on one of the rear wheels. Remington took it apart, ordered some material and handmade a pair of replacements. Shelby never had another carrier fail while racing. That was Remington's forte. He was a self trained instinctive engineer.
@Scooter Tramp - Shelby never had another bearing carrier fail because he replaced that weak stub axle setup that was ok for a small torque six cylinder engine but could not handle the torque of a potent V8. Just one of many improvements and equipment upgrades made by Shelby American, who too many Brits still think just shoved an American V8 into it! The Cobra required much more than that to make a true, reliable and effective racer and street car.
@Scooter Tramp - Not sure where you are getting your info but it contradicts much of what I know and have read about regarding Phil Remington. He not only liked the GT40 project, he had said it was his favorite! He wasn't big on the street Cobra and didn't care for the Daytona Coupe at all during its development, along with most of Shelby's crew. Remington saw Shelby's connection as a means to get to Ford. He realized Shelby American was a small time business where Ford could offer more in the way of his career development, so he embraced Shelby American as a means to eventually hook up with Ford, on a much bigger, more profitable scale. Try reading the Road & Track story on the internet called "The Life of Phil Remington" and you will have a much clearer, more accurate picture of this incredibly gifted man and what he contributed to Shelby American.
There an old movie 'The Killers' and an episode of the tv show 'Run For Your Life' which has a race scene where one of the cars is an AC Cobra and it goes out of control because of failure of what appears to be the right rear wheel bearing assembly..
So this meeting is the catalyst for the historical event.
Matt Damon and Christian Bale both were excellent but often overlooked is the role Jon Bernthal played as Lee Iaccoca, his acting was fantastic as well

Ferrari vs Lamborghini would be another good movie. They were neighbors, and Lamborghini build tractors, but was the best with transmissions. He told the Ferrari guy about some suggestions. Ferrari told him to stick to tractors.....well, Lamborghini started making cars.

Joe Bernthal Is one of those guys who's in everything but he always does a fantastic job.

This is precisely what advocates of hybrid and electric cars don't understand. Automobiles are about passion, emotion, beauty.
To some. To everyone else they are driving appliances. They go from her to there, just as a microwave makes the temperature of something go from here to there. It's why manual transmissions are dying out. Just more inputs to get the same outcome. And for the record...electric cars are potentially FAR faster than ICE cars. Watching a 4 door Tesla that weighs as much as a pickup completely brutalize all but the very pinnacle of exotic cars at the dragstrip is an eye opener. There is plenty to be passionate about with regard to that sort of performance.

Point taken but I'm really talking about aesthetics. To stand on the bridge over turn one at Laguna Seca while a Cosworth-powered, vintage F1 car screams by underneath your feet is an experience almost beyond description.
Are you saying you can't make evs passionate? Because I'm pretty sure Rivacs cars are more passionate than basically anything Toyota make at the moment. The packaging freedom associated with ev technology can allow aspiring car designers, such as myself, the opportunity to create more expressive and emotional cars in the future. There's also the fact that from a performance standpoint, evs walk all over ice cars, there's no competition. Ice cars often have a lot of character in their sounds, but evs moving forward will have their own expressive sounds.
@@mchristr Well, again, in terms of aesthetics, ev tech can make cars even more exciting and beautiful, because you can do things like having a really low front end, or in the case of the jaguar I pace, moving the a pillar forward to give it more exotic and dynamic proportions. The future is exciting my friend, you'll see.

Such a great scene, and Tracy Letts acting in which he says not a word but becomes the focus of Jon Bernthall's lines, and the gentle sound track i8ntroduced at the right point made it extra special, as it added the emotion of hope, and sets the tone for the movies story to unfold.

This movie is great just because it made Ford look like the good guys. Ferrari was a small shop in Italy that went toe to toe with a major conglomerate.
Enzo sat down at the sale with his village lawyer and stared down a literal plane full of lawyers. And he told them no and just walked out.

Hollywood, listen up! This is the type of movie we deserve. I didn’t see a frame of stupid “woke” progressive politics in it. I understand it’s impossible to create a “historically accurate” movie but this is as close as you can get (according to the historical sources out there.)

The Pentagon Papers were something that needed to be published by any means necessary, because it was the only way to expose the Nixon administration’s corruption involving the Vietnam War. That sort of thing still happens today.
Drawing a parallel to the past with the issues of today isn’t “woke”. It’s good filmmaking.

Enzo Ferrari was actually willing to sell his company to Ford,under the condition that he would keep the total control of the "Scuderia" (the motorsport division),but the bean counters at Ford,changed the contract at the last minute and put a clause in,which would give Ford the right to inverne with the "Scuderia",if they thought it was necessary.
When Ferrari´s lawyers discovered the new clause,old Enzo went ballistic and cancelled the deal,not to mention he insulted Henry Ford II,who took this whole thing personally and started the Le Mans project,in order to humilate Ferrari.
In the end the whole shabang cost Ford over 150 millions in today´s money and we got a legendary race car with the GT40.
What ya left out was after the GT40 dominance, Ferrari stop competing at Le Mans, and focused on F1.
