I didn't mind Cruise as Reacher (as I only started reading the books after the first movie), but am I the only one who has more of an issue with Reacher's driving in the films? In the books he is always a self-confessed bad/mediocre driver while in the films he is anything but that. That bothered me more than the difference in verticality in book and films. Apart from that, I recognised Reacher in Cruise's performance after I started reading the books ...
That's Werner Herzog. He's the director, and self-aware enough to know he can emote amoral psychopathy. In 2012 he made "The Act of Killing," where he visited Indonesia and persuaded the celebrated leaders of the nation to re-enact their genocide of a million people. It takes a special sort of discipline and comfort with darkness to do that.

I like both, Richson's physique is more on point and his acting is good too. Guys, let's be honest. Our toxic trait is that we think we're Reacher in all these situations. Especially the 5v1 scene. We're dumb, boys. But we love it.
So many people say they like the television series version of Jack Reacher better, but I honestly much prefer the Tom Cruise version. The TV series version is a huge, imposing guy. A bit cliche, in my opinion. But the Tom Cruise version looks like just an ordinary guy. Very unassuming and easy to underestimate. And for me, that makes it even more badass when he destroys people. Much more convincing.

You got plenty more vices to fund before the night is through, so you accept and rope in your best mates for a 5v1 beatdown. Easy money. After encountering the target and initiating the confrontation, he casually shreds your sister's honor and describes in detail how he's going to win 1v5, then he proceeds to do exactly as promised. Now you're lying on the ground spitting and possibly pissing blood, and the target calmly asks as he's being handcuffed, "who hired you?" What. The. Hell. He not only saw and unraveled your entire fight strategy despite overwhelming odds in your favor, but he also immediately recognized that something much larger than a petty bar fight was going down. Now you finally begin to suspect that you just might be in way over your head. These two not-so-random dudes are clearly involved in some seriously high level shit that a wiser man would want no part of, and you blundered right into the middle of it thinking it'd be some laughs and some cash. Not even close, Cruise was the worst casting choice.
@@jdsim9173 For those who had read the books...
I don’t know if I would call it intensity or presence
@@jdsim9173 Just becuase hes not tall as Reacher in the books...
The Zec...that look when you realize you might possibly have gone just a bit too far.
@@MasculinityIsFundamental He also made the movie Grizzly Man about that dumb shit that repeatedly went up to Alaska to "live with the bears" until they ate him, and his girlfriend.
Werner Herzog is pretty awesome. He also made a 3d documentary about a cave in France with the oldest paintings known to exist (32,000 years). The documentary is called Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
@@slick8086that cave documentary is amazing
Rosamund Pike looks amazing in this film.
As she usually does.
He may not have the size, but boy does he have everything else to play this character.
I know Tom made a tiny Reacher but I still like these movies.
I haven’t watched the tv show yet, but I really liked Tom in this role. Doesn’t matter if he is the right size for the character. He played it so well
I enjoy this movie, but truthfully, watch the series. It's great
If you haven't read the books Tom Cruise made the character better with his skill as an actor, the movies are less corny. If you settle for big dumb guy action (like the books) the series is fine. Alan Richardson is a big gut, fits the part, but he is not much of an actor so Reacher doesn't come across as very bright in the show. If there was a way to combine Richardsons frame with Cruise acting it would be great.
@@jesperjee Jack Reacher in the books is a dumb guy?
@@PotrzebieConolly No.The books are for "dumb guys". It's "write by numbers." Guilty pleasure reading for those who only like Fast & furious movies or watch UFC on TV.
I'll admit I read them sometimes when I am short of time. Fun read. But so so simple.
@@jesperjee Yeah, after I finished Snorri Sturluson's 900 page book Heimskringla (English translation of course) I took a break by reading a Jack Reacher book.
Shows how Tom can completely carry a movie, his shoulders are that broad.

NO.... NOT NECESSARILY
I've done this several times in my life.
Now, i understand what you mean and .. in the majority of cases, Yes it's a movie and it's choreographed.
I get that !
Now you should understand something about me
- I'm 51
- Started Martial Arts since i was 8
- The list of Martial Arts that i studied is a very long list and i'll save you the boredom of reading it.
Let's just call it, A LONG LIST
- In the time that i'm talking about i was between the ages of 25 - 38
- I was training 6 to 7 days a week and approx 4 hours training a day
Then from time to time idiots would try and rob me, Either unarmed or with various weapons.
If they attacked me with a knife i wouldn't say "Remember, you wanted this" I would say
"Are you sure about this ?"
They would say "Give me your money"
I would say "You're gonna lose, Are you sure you want to do this ?"
if they moved.... I took their knife and put them in a world of pain
In some cases, they just looked at me and ran away
HEY... IT'S A GOOD WAY TO GET RID OF IDIOTS
but, Yes... if someone looks you dead in the eye and says something like
"Remember you wanted this" or
"Are you sure about this" or
"You're gonna lose"
BE VERY CAREFUL HOW YOU PROCEED.
Because there is a way that a guy says it who is bluffing
and there is another way that a guy like me says it who is Absolutely certain of what he is doing.
A Person like me who has experience will usually also give you an opportunity to walk away.
A Guy who is bluffing generally won't and he'll show off and try and throw out insults.
so, No, you don't just see this in a movie.
It definitely happens in real life
@@martinkuliza Well, kudos to you and your curriculum vitae, it’s really impressive.
And what I meant by that, is that those situation are far from representing the majority of the cases, unfortunately
@@martinkuliza I hear this shit every night im working as a doorman at night clubs man.
Its 99% bullshit comming from guys who have watched too much youtube. Sure some of them are probably trained some way or another.
Fights in the streets are unpredictable..A hit in wrong place with "right" force and even the trained people go down against a weirdo drunk just smashing randomly.
Ive seen it all, from two extremely fit people hitting at eachother like you see in cartoon shows, to a very known mma fighter getting clapped by a non trained person.
To seeing trained people just do one slap..like a hand slap and people fall to the ground.
Often its not even the hits that dangerous, its the fall.
Fighting is only supposed to be used in self defense..Sadly we have these moronic low iq baboons running around thinking they are more of a man if the just fight someone here and there.

"I have an emergency ... yes, I'll hold" What the hell?

Between Jack Reacher, Robert McCall, and John Wick, what’s not to like!!👍 😄😄
Much better written than the series. Hire the movie writers for the series. Win win.
lol both are adapted from the books tho. This will probably be the only adaptation of the 9th book One Shot we will ever get. The other seasons and movies are all different books all from the same 1 writer Lee Child of book 1, 9, 11, and 18.
Movie has a lot more time to adapt compared to a series, and much higher budget too.
Applea and Oranges. No comparison needed nor warranted,
the way he negotiates that hostage situation is wild, I love it
Smart man, Reacher. I'll bet the prisoner realised that he had said too much, just before he was shot!
The Zec made a fatal mistake: Saying how he would walk. He realised just before.....
"When it means you're not pregnant, that is." I'm DEAD ‼️🤣💀☠️
This is the very best editing of a good movie ,I have ever seen.
RUclips member since 2006.
Jeez he layed into every one of em 😂😂
Zec talked himself into his own death. Lol!
Controversial take: I like Tom Cruise as Reacher. He just has more charisma than Alan Richardson. And this is coming from someone who's watched the TV series before the films and then decided to read the books. In the first 3 books, yeah he's tall and strong but not that many of his enemies are that intimidated by him. Most likely because they're around his size just 3 inches or so shorter.
I absolutely agree.
The holy grail is somewhere in the middle.
Agreed
Well Cruise is certainly better actor
I liked them both but it was hard to get around Alan's way of acting. It was slow and harder to follow.
I liked seeing Werner here!
Great Jack reacher !
Tom NAILS the intensity of this character.
That spinning elbow he did on the first guy is used in Muay Thai and WORKS.
It works....IF you have the reflexes and the poise/confidence to pull it off. Most people flinch when a fist is coming at them.
I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but I'm a yinzer and I'll watch any movie filmed in the Burgh. Great movie. P.S. GO STEELERS
Great movie.
Though Tom Cruise don't have the height or is ripped, he's still intimidating and fearless.
I know a guy who can, has and does things like this for many years. He isn't as big as Reacher just as bad.
i miss that phone slam back in the day.

"Use it as long as you like" was exactly the correct answer lmao
I met a soldier from the Vietnam War. He told me how well a few MP's could clear a path in a bar. They never take either Reacher at face value.
One of the best ending to a action movie
9:54 Jack knew what kind of man he was dealing with.
He was left with no choice but to shoot him.
In case anyone was wondering. Reacher won the bet at the end.

Werner Herzog shows up when you least expect him, and punches a hole in the screen every time.
I love the movies, I love the series.
Whenever i look at Reacher, all i see is Tom Cruise..Tom's superstar power oevrshadows everything.
Whenever I look at Alan Richman, the new Reacher - all I see is The Swede - from "Heartbreak Ridge" - LOL.
@@edfederoff2679 I think the difference is "The Swede" is, more or less, how Reacher is described in the books. So if you are watching Reacher and you see The Swede, then the character matches.
Tom, for as phenomenal of an actor as he is and how well he performs this role, definitely doesn't match the character.
Tom Cruise NEVER plays a character. He always plays himself playing a character.

I would give this video a 10. In this movie, the Zec had to go. I really appreciate watching Reacher movies.
"what did you do" tied up loose ends......
Wow. I was expecting to see the, "I know where the hospital is," scene.
I like both, Richson's physique is more on point and his acting is good too. Cruise's physique is different from source material but his acting is .. well, cruise AAA, a slightly more balanced combo between risk-taker/smart/physically-capable. So it's fairly even in my mind. One has the edge on build, one has a slight edge on presentation. (don't get me wrong, both are great at acting, and this is all subjective) Enjoyed both.
Yeah, if they had given the character a new name I wouldn't have minded at all.
Love cruise as Reacher
Guys, let's be honest. Our toxic trait is that we think we're Reacher in all these situations. Especially the 5v1 scene.
We're dumb, boys. But we love it.
Never mess with Jack Reacher.
Loved this movie
I know Cruise didn't fit the bill physically but he did attitude-wise.
I think the TV series version of the character is boring, to be honest. Also, nothing against the actor who plays Jack Reacher in the series, but Tom Cruise is a much better actor. Much more convincing.
Is Rosamund Pike stunning or what?
What makes her stunning is not her marginal beauty but her gorgeous acting. That makes up for it in epic fashion!
Imagine you're a self-described alpha bro hanging out at your regular booze hole. Some random dude comes through and pays you to bait some other random dude into a fight.
Now you're lying on the ground spitting and possibly pissing blood, and the target calmly asks as he's being handcuffed, "who hired you?"
What. The.
Probably not enough to make a man completely change his ways, but I wonder if at least some minor life choices were given serious reconsideration that night.
Note to Self - don't tell Jack Reacher you're going to send him to prison.
"Remember, you wanted this"
In the scene where Tom disarms the guy, I know they are using blanks, but that would still be very loud going off next to your face!
As a non veteran a specialist in various areas very good performance
