WE’RE DOING A MASSIVE DETOUR FOR SOME MUCH NEEDED WARRANTY WORK | FLOODS, STORMS & FERALS - Ep 33

- Last week we were in Bourke NSW when we received a message about some long awaited warranty work on the caravan so we decide to take a massive detour back to Brisbane to get the work done.
Along the way we stop at one of our favourite campsites in Western Queensland, the Neil Turner Weir in Mitchell where we set up camp for a few days to try and escape the heat and a huge cyclone heading down from the north. Fortunately the cyclone doesn’t get this far but we’re definitely affected with temperatures rising above 40 degrees Celsius and rivers rising because of flooding rain.
We take a stroll through the township and find out that the local swimming pool is free to enter so we head in and spend the afternoon relaxing. The next day we move on towards Brisbane and stop at another fantastic donation camp at the Chinchilla Weir. The weir offers drive through caravan sites and power for a $10 donation. With the day time temperature still above 40 we hook up to the power and hit start on the air conditioner to try and escape the heat.
When we arrived at the Weir, we were quite surprised as there was no water flowing over it, but because of cyclonic rains further to the north within 36 hours, water was gushing over the top of the weir wall and the town was making plans for localised flooding. A local came to visit us and said that we should pack up and move to higher ground as the flood level that was expected, would be well over our campsite in a matter of hours.
We packed all of our things and headed to a free camp on the other side of town and we’re glad we did as the next morning the weir camping area was completely under water and all the roads in and out were closed due to flooding.
So back into Brisbane to get the caravan fixed and on to new adventures………..
So grab yourself a cold drink, sit back and relax for the next 20 minutes or so, and join Allison and I as we continue our adventures around Australia.
