Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, I’m so looking forward to trying this! Definitely one of my favourite childhood memories of my grandmothers cooking!
Hi Maike, it makes me so happy to hear that you enjoyed this video - and that you have such fond memories of Königsberger! Thank you for your sweet comment and happy cooking 💛 ~ Anja
If you don't mind me to add (as a german Klopse-Expert with years of study ;) ): for the broth, add 2 bay leaves and one peeled and cut in half onion to the water. For the meat, add one tea spoon of mustard and some of the liquid from the capers. For the sauce, you can add some vinegar and/or white wine (tea spoon). Your recipe is wonderfull however, nicely done ! :)
I think you presented this advise in an admirable way. No criticism but just some expert advise to be helpful. Bravo to you! I only mention it because so many web sites chime in with very hateful comments. I salute for your professional and kind post.
Thanks for bringing this back to my mind. I will make this asap in vegetarian version. My grandmother made these and I loved them. Now I don't eat meat anymore. What really makes them is the Kasper sauce.
Looks delicious! I’m vegetarian but can totally make this a vegetarian dish with all the options out there today. I love meatloaf and meatballs but have never tried meatballs like this. Thanks for the recipe.
Oh my goodness this brought me back to my childhood. I haven’t made this in such a long time. I will make this again. My mom would fry the meatballs to brown them first then added just enough broth to steam them. Either way the cream sauce is the same( mom used sour or sweet cream, basically what she had on hand) and yes, boiled potatoes was a must for the side. Thank you!
Hi Tina, yes, the stuff of childhood memories ... Interesting to fry the meatballs before boiling! Thank you so much for watching, sharing, and commenting 💛 ~ Anja
Hi Anja. I just asked my mom if she had indeed fried the meatballs first or was I confused with another recipe. Yes, she did but only after my parents were married. I guess my dad preferred it that way, but no she hadn’t learnt that from home. 😁 how recipes change.
I am trying to discover more about my German heritage and cooking has become an interestin part. It was great when I discovered you channel. This is a recipe my grandmother used to make but I had completely forgotten. Thank you for reminding me. You also commented that you would like to know what other recipes we would like to see. There are two that are of interest to me, Goulash and Kartoffelpuffers. Thank you so much.
Hi Gary, I am so glad that you're enjoying my recipe videos and that they bring back memories! Goulasch and Kartoffelpuffer are on my list so stay tuned 😊 ~ Anja
Looks yummy… my dad use to make our Hamburgers with the soaked roll for us when I was a kid… he was born and brought up in Germany… I never knew what an “American” Hamburger was until I got marriage! Lol …. Never had the cream sauce will definitely give this a try.
Perfect timing! Ground beef is on sale in my area! Question about capers. What to look for in really good ones. I love them in restaurants, but the ones I buy seem to not taste or look as good/ fresh. Thank you!
That is so great to hear, Sher! As for the capers, we found ours at Costco and like them. You can try these: amzn.to/3rS0MSv Hope this helps and happy cooking 💛🍲💛 ~ Anja
Thanks - always looking for good meatball recipes (especially trying to eat farm raised grass fed meets during rising prices). I like the use of capers.
What a wonderful recipe to share with my family. Thank you! QUESTION: Will you please do a recipe for German Hot Potato Salad? I’ve only a couple memories of my mother, but one was of her making this dish & taking it to our church’s potluck dinners. I loved how it was warm, tangy, with bacon.
Hi Lisa, I am so glad you like this recipe! Have you had a look at this recipe: ruclips.net/video/oPc3Rg2w4i8/видео.html We always eat it cold but you can absolutely serve it warm. And you can add some crispy bacon pieces. Happy cooking 💛 ~ Anja
@@OurGabledHome Thank you so much for your reply. The Hot German Potato Salad I’m speaking of is baked. I believe the ingredients are: sliced potatoes, bacon, onion or green onion or both, in a zingy apple cider vinegar type sauce of sorts. I don’t believe there is any dairy, but there may be eggs. I wish I could remember, but I very young. Thank you 😊
I sure enjoyed watching that!!! I grew up with meatballs in caper sauce, my Dad was German and he taught my English Mum how to cook, so a lot of our food was of East Prussian origin! I got English comfort food at school and German food at home😊! I met my wife here in Canada, she kindly makes me meatballs in caper sauce! Strangely enough, the recipe comes from a French cookbook! My Dad’s and my wife’s MICS are enriched with egg yolk, not cream or sour cream! I am intrigued with the idea of sour cream, I’m going to show this video to my wife and see what she says! P.S. I have my first sour dough bread rising from your starter! I am an experienced baker but never with sour dough! I have formulated my own recipe, so I hope all goes well!!! Klaus
These look delicious ! Many years ago my parents visited Wisconsin and stopped at a German deli , they brought back the best liver sausage . Do you have a recipe for German liver sausage ? ❤️
Hi Julie, I am so glad you like the Königsberger recipe! I don't have a liver sausage (Leberwurst) recipe but a liver mousse recipe that I was going to bring to the channel some time this year. Stay tuned 😊 ~ Anja
Thank you it looks delicious! I can’t wait to make this! Do you have a recipe for German meatball soup Saur Klopsen? If it’s such a thing. My husbands grandmother from Germany made this meatball and potato soup (simmered with whole all spice berries) and is a family favourite. Sadly she passed away before she could teach me. Is this soup such a thing in Germany or perhaps it was her creation? As I’m having difficulty finding a recipe. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Heather, I am so glad you like this recipe! As for your husband's grandmother's recipe - I am not quite sure what it could be other than her own creation. You could use my meatball recipe as a launch pad and make it a bit more soupy and sour (by adding more lemon). Hope this helps and thank you for commenting 😊 ~ Anja
