You nailed it 100% now that my mom has passed, you put a smile on my face as the tears are coming down my face I can remember everything when we used to visit my mother‘s mom in Germany, and that whole table from breakfast to dinner would be full of food
My sweet lady, thank you for this video! You showed us a private part of your life and the old-fashioned cabinet with your heirlooms! I appreciate you more for making this beautiful tradition! Your heritage is important and the more cultures you get to know, the richer person you become! So you have enriched the lives of your loved ones and you have created beautiful memories! P.s. thank you for naming things in german! Everyone who watches this video, is already richer for hearing it. ❤
What a nice family and nice breakfast! In Türkiye, my country, we have also basically the same content. And the most delicious thing is to be together with the family.
They have the best fresh lemons I have ever tasted. I wanted to take some back to Germany and my friend's Grandmother did not let me buy lemons from the first 9 market stalls we saw. Only at the 10th one she approved of the lemons. I still have no clue what made them better than the other 9, they looked all the same to me. 😄
Lovely videos! So agree to Use your very best china, cutlery & tablecloths Always!! My beautiful grandmother died at 76, we found all her expensive china never used! How very sad she did not ever think all our joyful family gatherings were quite good enough to use them. A lesson I remember everyday! Celebrate life🎉❤
I still have a huge set of expensive dishes made in 1955, that I bought brand new about 40 years ago. They are still unused in my 2nd cupboard! 😂 my other 2 sets do get used often, though.
We bought a full set of Villeroy & Boche while stationed in Germany in the early 1980’s. We have used less than 10 times in 40 years. I recently started for this very reason.
I grew up in Altena, Westfahlen and my mother is a native German from Göppingen (near Stuttgart). This video brings back so many memories for me. After moving to the US, my mom still made Laugenbrötchen from scratch. She passed that ability down to my oldest son and he makes them now that my mom has passed. I have a set of WMF egg cups, with spoons, as well as a cutter for the tops. In fact, all of my cutlery and serving spoons are WMF. When I make traditional German Sauerkraut (and Spätzle), my American friends and family are always in shock as to how different the Sauerkraut is. Loved your video!! ❤Tschüss!

This brings back memories of breakfasts when we visited my in-laws in Germany. Because my husband and I got up so early in the mornings (it was the time difference between the west coast of Canada and there), we had a lovely time walking to the bakery for the rolls and smelling the heavenly aroma, and then across the street to the butcher shop, where we got an assortment of cold cuts. We did this every morning for almost a month, and then we had to go back home and have toast or pancakes for breakfast. I miss it. Thank you for your recipe for rolls, I am going to try it soon.
Oh Gosh, this reminded me of my Gramma's table on Sundays after church. Coldcuts, black bread, relishes, pickles, salmon, red onions, grated boiled eggs, liver wurst etc. Best china, and table settings adorned the table each meal. Late afternoon we would have an apple strudel. Those were the days. Thankyou for sharing your meal with us.
When we visit our son and his family in Stuttgart and come back home to the States I have to continue making breakfasts like this. I was so happy to find the pretzel rolls at the local grocery stores but they are not quite as soft and delicious as the German pretzel rolls. I giggle at the balogna with the smily face that they make for the children. It is another lovely tradition for sure. I would also like to see a video on the 4 pm tea or coffee time with all the cakes and sweets I thought I should do that here as well because life is short we should eat dessert first.
Charming! Loved this video... a peek into your lovely life and lucky family . Delightful ! Thank You Anja for sharing your home and treasures with us. 😘
@@Marcel_Audubon - I agree……… deposits cat hair, left over poop on her butt (sitting on her haunches) and dirty paws from digging in her sandbox 😮 I love cats, just don’t belong on countertops and tables ‼️
Surely your mother remembers the American military in Bremerhaven...a book was written about them...the Germans were so fond of them. We lived in Speckenbuttle while my Dad was stationed there. His mother is German.
❤It looks absolutely delightful! Beautiful food & table setting. I have all my mum's heirloom crockery, silver & crystal, & agree, one must use it, (as she always did.. it makes special occasions even lovelier!) Your cat is delightful. A loved animal in the home is the sign of good & kind people. Thank you so much for sharing!

🌀💛🤗Thank you for sharing the Sunday German breakfast you share as a family. I love the idea of a pot of Black tea on Sunday, allowing a more leisurely pace and few more warm cups. I also, drink coffee, French press, cold brew, espresso, latte, cappuccino, dopio macchiato, and green tea, herba matte --that said more recently, Black tea got crowded out and I really like a good black tea, can be Earl Grey. I like to enjoy that cup in the morning. The morning cup is very different from an afternoon tea. I like that tea with milk. My grandmother was Swiss/Swiss-German who immigrated from Switzerland and that is who I had my first cup of tea with. It was black tea with mostly milk because I was just a child, not even 10 years old. I felt so grown up with my adult warm beverage for breakfast. 🌀🌀🌀🌀🫖👍💛🤗✔️

Oh this is absolutely wonderful! 🌷 Reminded me so much of days gone past. 🙂 And, this is such a sensible way to eat and use up what you have. My Danish background brought me the experience of smørrebrød, and the evening meal being breads, condiments, cheese and some type of meat.. and leftovers. The lunch meal was the big meal of the day. Also, I'd never seen potatoes boiled in the skin before, with the peel being taken off after. When I visited Denmark in the 90's, the town I stayed in .. the stores downtown closed for a lunch break! I'd never experienced that before, coming from the west .. it was lovely. Your room is beautiful .. love the furniture and how you set the table.
I'm not traditional at all but we always have cloth napkins when we eat dinner or a special meal. And, yes I iron them while watching an hour of television each night. My Southern belle grandmother always had cloth napkins at every meal even if only eating a sandwich. I guess I get it from her.

I’m a huge German fan, dating a German native and hope to move there someday. I’ll def check out your other Vids. And your Husband and Cats are sweet, we can’t control what our Cats do. 😂
Great video on meal time ■ I agree bread is increasing needed in a hostess menu; with pork being mRNA since 2018, I now choose other meats, thank you for other choices! Second, a grower One Green World has an excellent collection of farming trees and bushes for food sources; I am expecting a delivery soon.
I was amused by the feline "centerpiece." Seriously, that looks really good! I'm very lucky that near where I live there's a German butcher on one side of the street and a German bakery on the other side. One of my closest friends is the son of one of the Von Braun rocket scientists, so he's my go-to when it comes to all things German.
I love this! This brings back memories from when I was an exchange student with a family in the Schwarzwald. I loved Waldhonig-there is no honey quite like it! I actually have a recipe on my channel for Kornbeißerbrot that you might like. Theres no comparison to German bread!
My German sister in law, Gigi has visited America many times & likes to make American pancakes for her grandchildren in Germany. She is a very good German cook & has made us German dishes many times.
Love Manchego cheese. Very nice tradition. We always ate meals together at the table. Candles only with dinner. It’s nice to know other customs. We cut off tips of eggs with a special tool it was a knife, looking like oval blade scissors. Old good times.
In the uk we warm the teapot with hot water before adding the tea leaves and boiling (not just very hot, 212 degrees Fahrenheit please), makes the best cup of tea.
Love your home, memoirs, China, traditions. The synchronicity in the kitchen with your husband is wonderful to watch. And the kitty… Keep the video’s rolling. 🫖🧀🥚🥐🥨 This video brought me so many memories of when my grandmother and mom would prepare the afternoon tea for us with little sandwiches and sometimes included the soft-boiled eggs. 😊
I think your husband’s adorable for wanting to show us our cat. Love the the cat❤ The citrus juicer is such a great gadget to keep in the kitchen, I find it easier to clean than other juicers. I’m a big cheese person and to me, a German breakfast of brot mit kase is simple, clean and healthy. And thank you for the tip on not slicing the cheese till you need it to keep it longer.
What a peaceful video. You have such a calm and relaxed manner. I loved the way you smiled at your husband when he was trying to have the cat look at the camera! Very sweet…
These are the exact breakfasts that we were given in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on our various travels. We enjoyed them very much. Thank you for posting. I hope you ignore all the rude comments from negative people. Love the cats.
Gorgeous kitty. They have a mind of their own. 😂 lovely video, reminds me of breakfast at my Grandmothers many years ago. I know what you mean about what spoon to use for eggs. Tastes awful with metal ones
Luckily, we have some German delis in Southern California. Once in a while, we load up on all our favorites including Streichwurst. And because they have a bakery, we get Kaiser rolls, Bavarian Alpine rolls, Semmeln and traditional cakes. It makes for a perfect feast.
Brot brot brot. Hundreds of varieties. My favorites are the rye breads. Nowhere else in the world do you find rye breads like in Germany. Also, you almost always find some granola or whole grain cereal such as muesli as well as yogurt. And Lingonberry jam.
Best bread in Australia is made in German bakeries . It's sour dough . It's denser chewier more flavoursome and 100% rye is occasionally available . Free range eggs at room temperature put into cold water and brought to the boil and then turned to simmering and the eggs dont break. We use a cheese slice which shaves it off very thin so no crumbly cheddar!
I love this video very much! Thank you for sharing. Your home is beautiful. It is my dream to travel to Germany and learn more about my ancestry. I really appreciate that you took the time to put all of those links in. Definitely going to use them. The food looks delicious. ❤
Best breakfast I ever had was the week before Easter at a gasthaus in Oberammergau. Sehr schoen!❤ Yes, use all your best things! Life is short! Love your kitchen. Yum! Guten appetit!
Thank you so much for this wonderful reminder! My grandmother added fresh snipped cress, tomato sliced, radishes sliced, when in season - wonderful on toast.
We have cats too. Training them to stay off our table but they love the height to see outside and be nearer us. 7 years in Germany wasn’t enough when exploring our heritage. We did take many traditions home when we left. Breakfast was one with the exception of the hot breads from our neighborhood bakery. 🥖 warm, fresh wafting upto our apartment was fabulous.
What a wonderful video. I wish it went a bit longer because I was curious to how properly eat the eggs. 😆 Fascinating watching your son and curious if it was the same for each of you. Thanks for sharing and breaking down the components to the meal. It was a revelation to its ease and low morning maintenance. Looking forward to introducing this to my kids on occasion.
What a lovely and sweet video! LOVE the cameo appearance by the family cat! Yes, cats shouldn't be on a table we eat off of, but having had cats most of my life, I know cats have a mind of their own, and like people, are apt to do things they may be shouldn't do. Even with their defiance and naughtiness, we can't help but live them. I just didn't want the beautiful tablecloth to get torn by the cat's claws.
My kitty, Stormy, looks just like your kitty, and she also loves getting on the table. I can never set a table the night before. How interesting to see the differences between German breakfast and USA breakfast. I was so happy to see you light candles. I like candles any time of the day as well. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
aside from the cat on table… I’m sure you’ve heard enough of that , lol, I love your German cooking. I had the very fortunate luck to have worked in Germany several times building Canadian log homes. Along with that was meeting and making so many fine German friends and eating all that tremendous German food! I’m of Scottish decent as well as German decent. I absolutely love German cuisine! I’m looking forward to seeing many more of your videos. I’ve just seen the end of the video and it took me right back to Saarbrücken and the gasthouse I stayed at while building. Every morning at about 6:00 am, I’d sit down to a boiled egg, wonderful German bread, jams and cheeses too. Soooo GOOD! Thanks
It's so important to preserve such traditions. We do this Kind of Breakfast every sunday. Instead of the more comon family lunch on sundays. Or the classic Coffee and cake.
What a lovely insight into your heritage. Thank you. I lived in Munich for a couple of years and this brought back wonderful memories of a lovely country and lovely people.
My great aunt would tell the story about going to another great aunt’s house for a luncheon. The hostess had put the plates in a warm oven so that they would be warm when the guests arrived. The great aunt’s cat, knowing that a warm plate radiated heat, jumped onto the table, and curled up on a plate. My great aunts discovered the cat at the same time. The one said to the other while picking up the cat, “I’m so glad it was you because I know how you love cats.” The other guests soon arrived, and the lunch went on as planned.
Love all the German food. I miss LIVERWURST!! I had 2 German grandfathers and a Norwegian grandmother. Thank you so much for sharing your family and childhood holiday traditions with us. I put Cardamon in my morning coffee. Would love a sourdough Ulekaka Cardamon bread recipe. I can't do sugar but I substitute. My starter was good yesterday as it's 7 days old. Was runny today, added more Rye flour-think it will perk up as I can't wait to make one of your bread recipes. Thank you for your calm ways of explaining.
That's wonderful to hear about your German heritage! Liverwurst is definitely an acquired taste, but a delicious one. Cardamom in coffee sounds like a lovely twist - perhaps we could explore a coffee bread recipe in the future that incorporates it? I'm glad you find my explanations calming! Please let me know if you have any other questions, and happy baking!
We love to have Sunday (sometimes Saturday) breakfast. Our weekend china is Mason porcelain from DDR. We brought it from Soviet Union. It’s almost antique, it’s from 70th 😉 From Alaska ❤️❄️⛷🇺🇸🇺🇸
Just found your channel and love it. I am from Wurzburg, Bavaria and live in WA state since 1964. I am so lucky to get real german sour dough bread shipped from Germany to Miami and then to customers in USA. I also found a good source of Maintal Rosehip Jam, my favorite. My Easter favorite is a good Beef Roast with lots of gravy and potato Dumplings. This year I will bake a Bienenstich Cake.
So nice to see a traditional german custom! Your heirloom linens are beautiful - please share your suggestions for how best to clean and take care of them.
Lots of countries use cold cuts, salmon, breads for breakfast… like Scandinavia, baltics, some Slavic countries too. Now of course it’s everyone’s decision mixing all cultural inspirations - either porridge, eggs 🍳, cold cuts or simple croissants 🥐 ❤❤❤🎉 Dankeschon. 😊

and mouth watering
Glad you enjoyed it!
I miss this so much! 😢😊☕🍽️😋
Table setting is beautiful. Love it.,
I love this!
What a scrumptious feast
Brings back good memories at my German Grandmother’s home 🥰!
Nice! Maybe you'll recreate a German breakfast yourself some day 💛☕ ~ Anja
@@OurGabledHome I should!
Love Manchego cheese. Very nice tradition. We always ate meals together at the table. Candles only with dinner. It’s nice to know other customs. We cut off tips of eggs with a special tool it was a knife, looking like oval blade scissors. Old good times.
In the uk we warm the teapot with hot water before adding the tea leaves and boiling (not just very hot, 212 degrees Fahrenheit please), makes the best cup of tea.
for Chinese tea, we do the same. But For the first tea, we use to warm the cups, then pull out. Start to drink from 2nd
Elbows off the table, napkins on your lap ❤
Genau! ;)
Love your home, memoirs, China, traditions. The synchronicity in the kitchen with your husband is wonderful to watch. And the kitty…
Keep the video’s rolling. 🫖🧀🥚🥐🥨
This video brought me so many memories of when my grandmother and mom would prepare the afternoon tea for us with little sandwiches and sometimes included the soft-boiled eggs. 😊
Aw, thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to hear that you enjoy our home, the stories I share.
The breakfast looks amazing ❤ love your cat ❤
Aww ... thank you! That kittie sure is very loveable 🐱💛 ~ Anja
This looks fantastic! I'll see you next Sunday, so set another place!
LOL 👍
Mu favorite is definitely the English full breakfast, if not just a usual American spread.
So good!
No way....this is better and less hassel!😅
I think your husband’s adorable for wanting to show us our cat. Love the the cat❤ The citrus juicer is such a great gadget to keep in the kitchen, I find it easier to clean than other juicers. I’m a big cheese person and to me, a German breakfast of brot mit kase is simple, clean and healthy. And thank you for the tip on not slicing the cheese till you need it to keep it longer.
Thank you so much 😍 ~ Anja
What a peaceful video. You have such a calm and relaxed manner. I loved the way you smiled at your husband when he was trying to have the cat look at the camera! Very sweet…
Glad you enjoyed it 💛
These are the exact breakfasts that we were given in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on our various travels. We enjoyed them very much. Thank you for posting. I hope you ignore all the rude comments from negative people. Love the cats.
Haha, thank you ☺️!!!
Gorgeous kitty. They have a mind of their own. 😂 lovely video, reminds me of breakfast at my Grandmothers many years ago. I know what you mean about what spoon to use for eggs. Tastes awful with metal ones
Thank you so much for watching and your sweet comment 😊 ~ Anja
Now I am very hungry 😊
I love this video very much! Thank you for sharing. Your home is beautiful. It is my dream to travel to Germany and learn more about my ancestry. I really appreciate that you took the time to put all of those links in. Definitely going to use them. The food looks delicious. ❤
Looks very similar to our Polish breakfast :) Thanks for sharing!
I would assume it's very similar to what our neighbors eat! Thank you for watching and commenting 💛 ~ Anja
Best breakfast I ever had was the week before Easter at a gasthaus in Oberammergau. Sehr schoen!❤ Yes, use all your best things! Life is short! Love your kitchen. Yum! Guten appetit!
This was lovely.❤ Thank you for sharing.
Lived in Bavaria 4 years and miss the wonderful German breakfasts .
So delightful to see a "real" German breakfast, it makes me homesick!
Right? This is what I do when I feel homesick 😌 ~ Anja
Thank you so much for this wonderful reminder! My grandmother added fresh snipped cress, tomato sliced, radishes sliced, when in season - wonderful on toast.
You are so welcome!
That was so much fun to watch. Very relaxing, too.
This is lovely! Thank you Anja!
Thank you too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment 😊~ Anja
I love everything about this video❤... man i never knew m a German HHHH!!! lots of love and health to you guys from INDIA ;)
Thank you very much for sharing beautiful German traditions.
What a lovely breakfast. Your husband was so cute showing your cute kitty lol! Thank you for sharing a special moment with us.
Thank you! My husband will be happy to hear you enjoyed the kitty moment 😊 ~ Anja
aside from the cat on table… I’m sure you’ve heard enough of that , lol, I love your German cooking.
Soooo GOOD!
Thanks
Thank you so much 😊 ~ Anja
It's so important to preserve such traditions. We do this Kind of Breakfast every sunday. Instead of the more comon family lunch on sundays. Or the classic Coffee and cake.
So true!
What a lovely insight into your heritage. Thank you. I lived in Munich for a couple of years and this brought back wonderful memories of a lovely country and lovely people.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the savory breakfasts of Northern Europe, greetings from Italy
My great aunt would tell the story about going to another great aunt’s house for a luncheon. The hostess had put the plates in a warm oven so that they would be warm when the guests arrived. The great aunt’s cat, knowing that a warm plate radiated heat, jumped onto the table, and curled up on a plate. My great aunts discovered the cat at the same time. The one said to the other while picking up the cat, “I’m so glad it was you because I know how you love cats.” The other guests soon arrived, and the lunch went on as planned.
LOL! Thank you for sharing! Life with animals is always interesting 😜
Beautiful eyes on the fur baby 🥰
Glorious ❣ No home should be without a cat😂.
Love this! Reminds me of the German Breakfasts that I had when visiting Leavenworth, WA 🥰
Greetings from Germany, smoked salmon is a must have, if you had breakfast with grandma,, Gut gemacht.
We love to have Sunday (sometimes Saturday) breakfast. Our weekend china is Mason porcelain from DDR. We brought it from Soviet Union. It’s almost antique, it’s from 70th 😉
From Alaska ❤️❄️⛷🇺🇸🇺🇸
That is awesome!
Das freut mich sehr! Vielleicht Dank für Deinen lieben Kommentar und viel Spaß beim Backen 🧑🍳 ~ Anja
Thank you for sharing your lovely breakfast.
My pleasure 😊
Reminded me of my grandmothers tables and dishes she made us.😊
So nice to see a traditional german custom! Your heirloom linens are beautiful - please share your suggestions for how best to clean and take care of them.
Great suggestion!
I spent 3 1/ 2 years in Germany. Thank you, for a beautiful video. I miss being there.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting 😊 ~ Anja
Lots of countries use cold cuts, salmon, breads for breakfast… like Scandinavia, baltics, some Slavic countries too.
Now of course it’s everyone’s decision mixing all cultural inspirations - either porridge, eggs 🍳, cold cuts or simple croissants 🥐 ❤❤❤🎉 Dankeschon. 😊
You have a beautiful home and a lovely cat. ❤
Thank you! 😊
