The fact that this track only benefits a straight path to Toad Town/Peach's (Fawful's) Castle in a game with fast travel checkpoints with nothing to collect along the way, yet goes this hard into the level of detail for the background, and let’s you go the full loop of the track without being cut off, just goes to show how much detail Alpha Dream put into the smallest details of this game.

I did take a look but when I saw the new bottom screen map I went back and thought nothing of it except that it was just another way to fast travel. If I’d known there would be more pixel art about the other places, especially in a way that gave the game the illusion of a more open world perspective I would have stuck around!

my theory about this, when i first found it years ago on one of my playthroughs, was that this was his original ‘fast travel’ before the chakroads were added. ie; they added it in later in development, but idk
That’s the only thing that makes sense, since bowser has no reason to go here once you get the roll ability, since by the time you clear the lumbar nook you’re infiltrating peach’s castle at the end of the game
@@jackhumphries1087 I think portions of the game's story were different, so Bowser could have access the railway earlier than in the game. While it is a cool idea, the Chakroad system is more streamlined.
Very late because It has graphics and its traversable, honestly im surprised I havent seen any research about the development of this game or the other Mario and Luigi tittles
@@jackhumphries1087 There are areas Bowser couldn't reach without the spike ball, with item blocks. Pretty sure there's some exclusive equipment. I try and get every collectible in rpgs.
This was one of my favorite parts of the game, honestly. There's just something about this railway that I can't get enough of, I'd purposefully go out of my way to use it instead of the Chakroads when I had the chance.

It’s pretty cool to see the locations of the game from a distance like that. Also, I remember being upset that I couldn’t go in the train tunnel system as Mario & Luigi.

Huh…this game’s map is a LOT bigger than I initially thought! I didn’t think they fully have the train tracks loop around completely around the Mushroom Kingdom! For a very long time, I thought that the tracks would just be a singular path, ending on both sides, from Toad Town’s underground, to Bowser’s castle!
I always love it when games put past and future areas you have explored or have yet to explore in the background. Makes the world feel more connected and alive. It also just gives you something scenic to enjoy for a bit.
No, it's actually the opposite. The Monty Moles were actually making the tunnel as planned, until Fawful convinced them to turn it into a railroad for the Fawful Express. It was originally meant to be an escape tunnel for Bowser to use when kidnapping Peach.
Fawful may have been evil but you can't ignore the contributions me made to the Mushroom Kingdom railway system (haha). In all seriousness this pretty much completely optional area is pretty cool, you get to like see most of the world connecting in the background.
I definitely went left from Bowser's treasure room, but I never looped the entire way around. I can distinctly remember there being rubble in the next room left of where Bowser got zapped underneath Toad Town. (Unpassable rubble, not boulders Bowser can break.) Do you have to come back later for it to open up?

Wrong, Paper Jam was the last original Mario and Luigi game, the last published game of the series was the Bowser's inside story remake that sold poorly.
My big Mario & Luigi discovery was figuring out (in Superstar Saga (GBA)) that you could turn Luigi's HP into coins by hitting him in the crotch. Seriously, if you shrunk Mario, then had Luigi attempt to jump on him for the helicopter, and had Mario jump during that transition, Luigi would get hit, scream, lose 1 HP and you would get a coin.
I remember seeing a video of this thinking it was just a joke, then was playing again some time later and thought "What the heck, I'll give it a shot" and was laughing for a good 5 minutes when I found out it was real! (Works in the remake too)
It was only on my second playthrough of this game that I discovered the room with the Partners in Time enemies... got a little anxiety seeing them again.
I'm not entirely sure because i haven't touched this game in years, and i was very much still a kid playing it, but following those tracks and seeing that it loops actually goes around a fair bit of the map and then loops back does feel very familiar
I only found out about this area last year when I revisited Cavi Cape for stuff I hadn't collected yet, I then realized there was this door in the cave I could open and then realized the railway was fully done
Man this song was in so many places. Underground cave, Bowser Path, that weird tower I don't remember the name of, Railroad, Toad Town underground... I think it's the most used music track in the over world part of the Game. it's such an earworm, I could recognize it anywhere!
I first found it out with Mario and Luigi, I couldn't get past the rock that I can't break with hammer, so I went with Bowser instead, very dissapointed that there was no hidden items or something
After countless hours of playing this game I actually legitimately never thought of this. Guess I expected them to just not even let you explore this area but no they actually thought of it. Not like there’s much to even do but it is a neat detail and secret that you actually get to explore all the way back here

You’d be right, if you sent it 4 years ago at least… I noticed this on the remake and later checked it on the original version and that’s actually pretty cool, you’ll probably never use it in a normal play through but it’s nice regardless
I honestly forgot. You can actually go along the train tracks when you get to Bowser's Castle and pretty much get an overview of the entire world. Which makes the game bigger than it already is.

HAHAHAHHAA NOPE. FASCINATINGLY, a month ago I found my DS and by a crazy coincidence I’ve come upon this video. I did, in fact, find this and as it helped me find the Ironclad shell going through the pipes along the route. I won the bet yay ^^

Bowser just rolling around and exploring as he comes up with new plans that don't involve taking Peach as he felt it was getting stale.
Everyone needs a change of pace every now and then, especially when so many defeats are involved in your past...

That part collapsed, but got repaired after getting all star serum parts when Bowser learns to roll
