Btw, turn your spray bottles upside down & spray in order to empty the tubes & the spray openings.
Thanks for sharing and the tips. I have tried a few methods from other youtubers (including Kelly Donovan and Frugal Crafter)and not sure if my end results are "permanent" but I use fixative spray on top of the layer if I need to do more wet work on it after. In the end, I love the Frugal Crafter's method of using liquid water color or cartridge ink refills or food colors. The cartridge ink refill in black is great because I couldn't find black liquid watercolor in a store near me. And I tried a few spray bottles and the Dollar Store, Target, old Body Shop / Bath & Bodyworks sprays don't work as well as the tall and thin plastic spray bottles from the Beauty Supply Store. The come 3 to a package and are $2.39 regular price and spray easily and smoothly, either the slow spray to get splatters or the quick sprays to get full coverage that goes far and wide. Also a tip to not get spray clogged is to cut sprayer tube diagonal about 1/4 inch off from bottom of bottle and not to shake shimmer spray up and down but ring it like a bell sideways. If it does clog, wash with cold water, not warm.
Your Matt medium you can make yourself. I use it for clear gesso and my collage and glue. It's 1/4 cup water, 1 cup elmers glue all don't use school glue has to be glue all, 4 heaping tablespoon of marble dust. It works really well. This is not my recipie. But it works great.
Please leave your mistakes in. I make mistakes and I am so tired of seeing all the perfection that I can't attain. It makes me want to quit. Thank you.
a lady on a facebook journaling group recommended your video. I'm so glad she did. I appreciate that you show the success and the not so successful ventures. I really like your humor too.
Very impressed with the vibrancy of your colors...loved your little spill....something all us crafters deal with from time to time.😁
Aaron, I watched this at 1:30 am while hubby was sleeping and burst out laughing during the spillage Your videos are so entertaining and I am happy for the day that I found your channel. Loved the antique linen! Thanks for the new technique! Hugs, Pamikins!
I learn something new each time I revisit your videos. thanks.
Wow, this is such a good idea! Love it. Can't wait to try,
You made my day!! You are a riot!
Your not a dork in fact I'm a clumsy person to. I love the do it yourself stuff. Makes me feel like a scientist. Those colors are fabulous
This is genius! I never would have thought to add the matte medium. I am wondering if this same technique would work with food coloring or other coloring stuff such as when making sprays out of sharpies. It will be fun to experiment. Thanks so much!
love this.. can't wait to try it.. Target sells clear bottles for the same price
I found your video cuz I was looking through videos for sprays.
Great idea...You made me laugh.
Love this Aaron!!!! Thank you for sharing. You can use soo many mediums this way, Fluid matte medium, glazing fluid, airbrush medium etc!!!! This is going to be so much fun!!!
Very cool. Mat Medium is on my shopping list. Thanks, Oh glad I watched to the end. This will be fun to play with on my RCADs.
Thank you for the tip (and the giggle).
U r sooooo freakin awesome. . Ty for sharing all ur wonderful creations. I love everything u make!!!
Omgomgomg! Squeee! The piiiink! Thanks so much for sharing this! Subscribed right away. And thanks for leaving the spill in. I am a total clutz! So it made me feel better. 😄
made me smile ... thank you for this video .
thanks! I'm going to try this with my Dr. Ph. Martin Bombay pigmented inks😍
Thanks for the chuckles and technique!!! :))))
Aaron, thanks for sharing! I just tried the formula with Dylusions spray too & it worked, smeared a tiny bit, so may need more Medium vs water. Thanks again, really enjoy your videos!
I watched this again just to get a good laugh!!! That it so me!!! Thanks!!!
Hi Aaron--very much enjoyed this video and I did laugh pretty hard at your spillage because I've done it many times myself!mmgreat technique!
great video. and now i dont feel so bad, cause Im always spilling.you made my day
Super helpful, thanks!
I needed that laugh! 😂 These are great!
I used some watercolour paint instead of the ink and it works as well. Thanks so much for sharing!
Vixen LaRue I'm gonna try this for sure!
Hi Aaron, I loooove it. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going try the same with my Stampin up re inkers. So excited as I love working with permanent sprays when I'm doing mixed media but don't buy them much as there is always something else I want to spend my money on. Your huge bottle of medium was sooo cheap compared to Australian Prices. it's $51 here for that size! Oh and the spillage - glad I'm not the only one, thx for leaving that in :) thx for sharing Wendy
That was Awesome!! Loved it! Was like watching myself...😂😂😂
I was laughing so hard that I forgot to tell you I did enjoy the rest of the video...permanent spray ink...brilliant!
I loved that it was a natural live video. We all make mistakes because we're human. Really cool!
Found your channel recently & have been enjoying. Like the idea of using fluid medium...will have to buy some now. If you add iridescent medium, it should add some glimmer right? I really want to try.
Thanks for leaving the spill footage. Yes I laughed...because I do crap like that all the time! Am finding a great deal of inspiration from you. Thanks much for sharing.
Neat invention. One Vlogger said that when you spray like this, through a stencil, keep your bottle higher to avoid the liquid from seeping under the stencil. The farther away spray creates a crisper result. Hope this helps.
Brilliant video - thanks for sharing. You did make me lauh too!
the oopsie moments are perfect!!!! There is a reason my Mom didn't name me Grace, so I totally relate!!!!
Awesome sauce! Sending you a link for great and inexpensive spray bottles through PM. It will take about 3 weeks, but totally worth it! Thanks for another great video :) d.
You are VERY funny....loved watching this and learned a lot. Thank you.
Just a little while ago I spilled a bottle of my diy alcohol inks I was replinishing. I was mad at my clumbsey old self, till I watched this video. I'm NOT the only bull in a China shop, lol. Btw, I use 91% alcohol & the set of Dollar Tree markers to make mine. Cheap alcohol inks!!! I love your tutorial & definitely want to try your technique! Thanks for sharing & I'm following. Hope you're still doing videos!!! I'll go look after writing this.
I really love this, thanks for sharing! Added to favorites! xoxo JEn
Need to do this! TFS!!
TFS Aaron! I don't have any re-inkers, but I DO have a bunch of dried up gel pens that I may try to make sprays out of. I am going to cut apart all my ancient dried up gel pens and soak the inside ink tubes in water-then add the medium to the solution and put it in a small spray bottle so I can try to make some sprays with them.
First time here enjoyed this video so much..have a question...I have acrylic gloss medium will that work ? It's never been opened I hate to buy the matte if this will work. Thanks for your reply.
Your colors will be more brilliant as well because of the medium will prevent it from soaking into the paper.
Floetrol from the hardware store works with this as well and it is $10 for a quart. It is milky but also dries clear. I do not know about archival -ness and really don't care for my journal. Heat setting will make the permanence more sure. Also if you are trying to do it on the cheap you can do 3/4 water and 1/4 white PVA glue or mod podge. Any fixative in the mix will work. Gum arabic works too.
Oooh, thanks!!! I have lots of gum arabic, glue and Mod Podge....I bought like a pound of powdered gum arabic on amazon for cheap.
what was the ink/paint/food coloring you used by dropper? i don't think you mentioned that.
Great idea!! It'll be interesting to see how the spray lasts in the bottle. Do you think the nozzle will clog up at all?
Lol when you nearly spilled the second one then you say "you like that" Laughed even harder ^-^ thanks for the tut! I am such a cheap scape! ^-^
What other brands of the matte medium are available? Surely a cheaper brand could be bought at Walmart or somewhere like that! Thanks for sharing your vid!
4:12 when he smacks the bottle then says “ouhhhh”
Hi--- I made alcohol ink with 91% alcohol & ink from different color pens: Will this method work with the ink I made?
Have you ever tried using airbrush medium instead of matte medium to mix with the ink?
i thought i saw tim holtz say that once you diluted the distress reinkers ink that it's no longer water reactive .... i guess that's not permanent? what do u think i see the demo where some came up but was that mixed with h2o?
Interesting idea! Had to re-watch your spillage to get maximum entertainment value... and all for free! lol :)
you're funny, I subbed just for the spill lol
cool! =)
Thank you for sharing. =)
What is the amount of medium per bottle??
Hallelujah!! Someone who's as clumsy as me LOL. I enjoyed your video and that's a good discovery. Have you ever thought of making sprays with India Ink which dries permanent? Probably would be too expensive. Try sponging a bit of the spray through the stencil. You will get a better result or spray from high up so as not to saturate it. I prefer the sponging as it doesn't recolour my whole desk, walls and anything else on my desk at the sme time. Huggles Lynn
Could you use these with epoxy...
I enjoyed this I spilled a whole cup of coffee on my table you should of seen me grabbing a towel. Thank goodness it didn't do much damage. LOL
Thank you babe I hate now days more look for the down of every high like you said it’s free I’m happy you take your time to share your time and care for us who love to craft and I got 13 grandkids I want to teach before I go I’m 65 and they will teach thier kids I thank god for ones like you Texas hippie née naw
I wonder if you need to let it cure for a bit (to make sure it's really really REALLY dry) before it's really permanent. Heck, I wouldn't worry about it at all-- it's permanent enough to be useful. BTW, that same bottle of matte medium is at Blick's for $15. Not worth it if that's all you're getting and have to pay shipping, but if you are ordering other stuff and can meet the $59 minimum for free shipping, then it's a great deal.
♥️your happy accidents...if your Mr. Clutz...well, I'm granny Clutz...must be a big family! 😂clutz/dork fun family reunion!🤣
Hi! Wanted to let you know, I found a travel pack of spray bottles at dollar tree..or 99 cent..sorry not sure, on the soap isle they have the travel packs. Only one spray and two with caps but I stock up when I see them. You can mix your colors and change out the sprayer. I personally buy all they have so each has their own sprayer. Hope you can find them! Every penny helps ....I know! :) Thanks for all the inspiration. I love your videos and your work.
Okay, wanting to do this but curious now that it's a year plus after are they working well still or clogging up? Fingers crossed they're still happily spraying....I've got all the supplies ready to roll!
They're still working! It really depends on the bottle. I highly recommend it!
What kind of ink are you using?
Did the purple spray ever come off the crushed raspberries card you sprayed purple ink on? I admire what you are doing, nothing in this industry is cheep. I have yet to find anything fun yet. I guess daily pain puts me in a downer. Sorry, must be time for my monthly cry. Lol! Just to explain, I have been stamping since early 1990s. In 2001 I started having migraines every day. 15 years later I still have them every day. Not complaining just explaining. I enjoy your work. I watch a few of you a lot.
thanks a million for the demo.

Hi , just came across this video, really had to laugh..not at the spills but the *hairy* arms!!!! But like the idea and am going to give it a go!!
Thanks, have to admit I giggled with the spilling oops, I'm also quite impressed you didn't swear.
I have the gloss medium. Which is just shines compared to Matte medium , correct ?
Sheila Skinner It will seal the inks just like matte medium but it will give a glossy finish to the ink sprays. That's the only major difference.
so funny... :) thanks for sharing.
This is a must do. You, I must Subscribe to. That looked so much like a day in my own life. Then "Don't judge me!" LMAO! My life MUST have laughter. Everyone's too Flippin serious. Thank You. Newest Subbie, Lynda
I've watched this video before and this morning I want to make some spray..... now , for the question. Would Matte Medium & Varnish work? I have this but not sure if it will work.
It shuold, yes! As long as it's a fine mist spray sealer it should work perfectly!
Thanks. Will give it a try now. Lol.
Btw, used a MiniMister & sprayed perfectly!
I don't understand what you call them....ICAD? iPad? What dioes it mean?
#ICAD is an art challenge that takes place on Instagram (could be other places too... not sure). To participate you make a creation, once a day for a certain amount to days on an index card therefore Index Card A Day = ICAD. I believe it ended yesterday but not 100% as I didn't participate this year. Lots of fun to follow though... search #ICAD on IG and you'll be able to view the work done by many artists!
Hi , you add water , whith reinker and matte médium ? Excuse , i'm french ! Thank you :)
De rien! Oui...matte medium, reinker, et l'eau. Je l'aime!!! -Aaron
Merci :)
+Fayy16Chat De rien, mom amie! Bissous!!!
***** Cool , tu parle français ? ! :D
+Fayy16Chat Je parle Français in peut. J'ai etudié Français à l'université! Il est une de mes passions!
Truly, Dorks rule :)
How about the alcohol reinkers? How can I make them into sprays??
I don't suggest doing that. I've heard there are resins in the alcohol ink reinkers which can be dangerous when airborn. I've been tempted to do that, but got scared when I heard about those resins.
+ImperfectImpulses i made alcohol ink out of sharpies. do you think this technique would work with that? or even food coloring?
oooo I wonder if I can add some matte acrylic medium to DYLUSIONS to make it more permanent right off the bat? hm :)
ibkristykat I don’t see why not!!! Try some in a separate sprayer. It should work!
hmmm thanks for the inspiration!! :)
after using these for a couple of months have you noticed a lot of clogging???
Also have you tried making them with alcohol instead of water, or adding a bit of alcohol with the water? That might make them PERMANENT
Miss Pam sent me here to make sure I had answered you! Hahaha! I haven't played with them in a while, but when I do, I'll update you. I don't think alcohol would work because these are water based inks so it would repel them. It might make some interesting patterning, though!
***** LoL Thank you :) Love PAM! :) That's what I figured about the alcohol but wanted to ask. Might have to try it just to see what happens lol! Yes please let me know when you play with them and I saw the BB comment below - GONNA DO THAT! Thanks again for all your videos - you are my fav art journalist to watch!!!! :)
What you are doing with the medium water and ink is essentially making high flow acrylic paint.
The viscosity is also perfect for pours with a 50/50 liquitex medium and water.
oh my..........i am just the same i try soooo hard but the more i try the more clumsy i get lol
Omgosh...I know this is an old video...bit I needed that good laugh....lmbo
Thank you for showing that you are human. If you put a couple of stainless steel BB's in that will help the stirring of color later.
I just found your channel, looking at you making a stencil. ANYWAY.. IIJUSTLOVYOU!!!! AND I wanted to ask if you have ever tried Dr Ph Martins Concntrated,Watercolors? They come in 1 ounce bottles with droppers. YEARS ago, before I got married, had kids and got divorced, and pictures were done with film, I had a B&W darkroom, and this was the stuff we used to hand color photographs, since they come in almost EVERY COLOR IN THE UNIVERSE...I m sure they're still made, just not sure where to get them, cause I still have a complete set, plus extras. I had a friend who used to work at Daniel Smith's in Seattle, and she got a great discount. NOW I know what I am going to try with them!! They are SUPER strong. You should check them out.
I will be SO glad when I can watch art videos without political slam ads
Been there and still doing that, lmao
Ooooohhh....I wonder if this will work with 50% liquid watercolours and 50%liquid medium..
I don't see why not...distress inks are similar to watercolors. Give it a shot!!!
Yes it will and the colors will be more noticeable because of the medium
Bit of a bukakke moment, there. 😳 This is a genius idea, though. Working in a confined space for the view-finder is never easy, so give yourself a break. 🤗
💀 🤣 👏🏻 Thank you for the laugh!!!! Glad you enjoyed the idea.
Lmao
Please.
lol
LOL
Life is full of mistakes.. I have an ex husband to prove it!! But you aren't a dork.. go easy on yourself!!!!
