- Are You A Cricut User? Take a trip down memory lane with Priyanka from DecorWithPri! Have an old Cricut machine sitting in a craft closet somewhere? Want to learn how to use it?? This video will walk you though how to use the Cricut Expression Machine and some tips and tricks on using the machine.
I get all my cartridges from Amazon and Etsy from individual sellers; and they work great! My primary material for my Cricut will be card stock so I bought a fine point blade replacement on amazon!

I was gifted a Cricut Expressions along with over 50 cartridges. I use it more than my other machines. I have 4 machines and this is my easiest one to work with.
I love the cartridges. I’m nervous to try out the design space. The expression machine is so much less intimidating!
Hi, question? Do you need to use it with a program in the computer or it does not have nothing to do with computers?
Thank you for your tutorial. I bought a used Cricut Expression machine at a thrift store. It was in most of its original packaging, but no cartridge, button overlay, or mat. I since borrowed and purchased a few so I can try it out. Your video really helps! Hopefully you continue making them, you're a natural!

I was gifted one to and have never used it because I was so lost on how to do so. It is a shame that the cricut website has removed most of the information and guides on the older models. Thank you so much for this video. I look forward to learning how to use this machine. I would really hate for it to just collect dust.

this is actually the Expression - NOT the Expression 2. I have both, actually have 3: the "Baby Bug" which is the original, the Expression and I have the Expression 2 which is the one with the LED screen in the middle of the top of the machine. I seldom use it because it takes so many steps to make a cut - you have to go into several screens and make your choice preference before you can cut. With this Expression, everything is manually done on the 'outside' of the machine. Love this machine the best of all my Cricuts... Thanks for the video...

Can you do a video on cutting with thin metal ? I would like to create metal stencils to Wood burn 😊
I just got this machine and I was wanting to know if u were able to upload ur own images?
You don’t have to buy new blades just clean and sharpen them. To do that get a ball of tin foil and stab the top of the blade into the ball about 25-30 times. If that doesn’t work I’ve seen people put tin foil on their mat like you would cardstock, and cut out a design

Does this machine work for decals as well??

Thanks! I just noticed the insert to plug it in when I was moving it. I’ll definitely have to check it out as I use design space for my new Cricut Explore Air 2! I’m still learning the apps to create things. Thanks for the tip!
You cannot use design space with this expression 1 machine, you have to purchase and use scal5 now.
Just to let you know , this is actually the Expression 1 not the expression 2 , the E2 has the screen in the middle.

My sister just gave me her cricut expression and it won't turn on. I have it plugged in, but I don't know what else to do.
This is probably a super dumb question. But I have another cricut and can make anything I want on my pc and it’ll print it. Is this the same or it only prints whatever are on the buttons are cartridge?
Hi! Definitely not a dumb question. I had no idea. I know the new cricut design space doesn’t work with the old machines, however I recently learned you can get other software that works with these machines with a computer. I haven’t tried it as I only use the button cartridges.
Can you use and paper? Or foes it have to be specific paper??
Hey how do I find the perfect size for my design to put on a shirt
Hi! Depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking to do a pocket sized image (2-3inches), I suggest cutting it out with regular paper and place it on the t-shirt with the size you want and put it against the shirt and increase it by 1/4 inches if you want it bigger or smaller! Hope this helps.
I was trying to cut happy birthday on vinyl transfer it cut backwards help
I tried it by entering the letters backwards and then cutting. I know it’s not the best option, maybe someone here can help, but the backwards starting with the last letter endings with the first worked for me!
So I have this machine (cricut expression) and I haven't used it much but wanted to start doing more with it because it is a craft investment. My hubby got me this about 6 years ago? I have seen tons of videos on other machines how to use with the computer, joining letters and using SVG files-etc. I don't want to purchase another expensive machine but would like to utilize my old one. Can I link it to my Laptop and use it with SVG files? Thanks, Paige
Hi there, I totally understand this. I heard there is a program called Sure Cuts' a Lot that you can use to plus your computer in. I have never used it but have heard great things. I also used a regular fine point blade that came with it! You can get replacements on amazon!
My expression is 12+ years old now. I refuse to buy another Cricut. I use the program that Provo Craft sued, Make The Cut or MTC. And I’m still using it and loving it!!! I can cut anything and don’t need any special files!!!
I just bought a used one but it’s not working with MTC. So, I might have to see if the cartridges will work.
Which cutting mats did you use from Amazon?
I have these super off brand ones haha which were like a pack of 3! They are soft grip. Brand: reart!

This is the Expression 1, not 2 (2 has the screen in the middle). People will get confused. Expression 1 has the screen on the left.

Can you make mugs with it ?
You can totally cut vinyl on it to make fun mugs, yes! I am going to be trying it out and comparing it to my cricut air here soon! I'll let you know how it goes!

Are you still using your Cricut Expression?
Is it only able to cut paper products then?
I have used only paper products, I haven’t seen anything that’s not entirely paper. I know the newer machines can cut a variety of materials. I haven’t tried anything else on the expression machine aside from paper products!
No! I make shirts and everything with mine. You do have to buy a software to be able to do a bunch of stuff that isn’t on the cartridges!

The cartridge is for what?
Its how the cricut gets the shapes to use. There are tons and tons on etsy and amazon I believe!

Can you connect it to a computer?
There is an import in the back similar to the newer ones where you can, I know they used to use a different application before Design Space but I believe it does not work with the legacy machines. Before they used Cricut Craft Room, which I believe does not exist anymore, sadly...
You can buy Sure Cuts A Lot 2 and it works the same as design space!
@@debrabeach4599 Hi Debra, will the version 5 of scal work? I have the demo and it strikes through all my cuts. I don’t want to pay for the full version if it doesn’t end up working.
@@cindyly3575 Yes you can use scal5 with this machine, trial mode will put cuts through your designs, you will need to pay for a license around $60.
Do I need the cartridge for this model?
Someone gave me one but there's no cartridge.
This machine will only work with cartridges, so yes you need cartridges unless you purchase scal5 and even then you will still need 1 cartridge for scal5 to work.

Can I connect my Cricut Expression to my computer?
I’m not sure if you can with the older machine anymore since they upgraded programs to design space and that’s not compatible with the older machines. I know they used to be for the older program but not sure about design space.

How do you make the letters larger or smaller?
There is a dial on the front right side of the machine, it’s marked in inches.

You need a program now, and that program is scal5.
