How to use my CRICUT Joy machine with a cell phone SUBSCRIBE Today!!! For more fun crafting videos! Let me walk you through this Cricut joy unboxing tutorial of the CRICUT JOY and use my Iphone to cut and draw using Cricut Design Space. This video is a Cricut Joy for beginners we have a cricut advanced video just click the link at the end of this video. Have fun making all your Cricut Joy projects and Crafts. I learned that the paring code for my older apple laptop was 1111. I hope this helps. I only use Apple devices in this tutorial. I am not sure of the difference with Android but I know It is compatible with Design Space.

Hi. I’m not sure if you found out the difference in the permanent and removable vinyls. I’m sure you did but in case you didn’t, one you can put on your window for example and remove and reposition it. The other is for permanent decals as you know. I hope this helps the watchers too :)

From one teacher to another you are an amazing educator! You explained and modeled everything flawlessly. To be honest, I have been buying vinyl essential oil labels from crafters on Etsy, but it gets pretty expensive and then there's the long wait times. Well NO MORE! :-)
Something I am unsure about is which Cricut is best for a newbie crafter? If you buy a cricut does that mean you can pay as you go for supplies or are you obligated to purchase a monthly subscription? Do cricut machines only work with their own supplies or can you mix and match vinyl sheets from other companies? What's the deal with the pens? Do you need different pens for different fonts? (sorry for so many questions, but I want to be an informed buyer :-) Thanks!

Jessica I am so sorry for some reason my message wasn’t completely sent!! My apologies!! I would definitely say that an Air2 would be the machine for you and what you want to make. The vinyl is a pain trying to find what’s best and how to use it and I’ve looked for 3 years trust me it’s a process. You have to find what works for you and JDC vinyl is amazing !! The best in the US! I have to say creative fabrica is the best for a subscription as Cricut access is super limited and you have to pay additional for other images and fonts. You don’t get the commercial license either so you can sell them or start a small biz if you wanted.

How can I cut my own images, I paint shoes and want to make stencils to help me paint things but I’ve only seen people use the images Cricut already has
Kylee, you can purchase any images that are an accepted file for design space. Cricut sells stencil sheets that you can cut and then use for your shoe projects. You can even create your own images using adobe illustrator. However, that does cost money. You can always reach out to svg creators on Etsy and they might be willing to work with you in creating a file that you can promote and tell others about their site. These are just a few tips. kylee Renee I think it needs to be in a png file, you’d have to digitally erase the parts of the drawing that you don’t want and save as a png transparent picture
Another software that you can use to design your svg images is Inkscape and it is free.

I dont have a computer I only have my phone ang and I'm a big planner girl Lol ,so I'm trying to use it for my planner stickers, I use a lot of kits from etsy's and they print fine from my phone but I have to hand cut everything which is very time consuming so really want a cutting machine but didn't know whether a silhouette or cricut would be best, do all the cricuts work from android's without the need for a computer or just this one? And if the kit I get on etsy's has silhouette cut files with it but not cricut files will I be able to make the cut lines myself or something?
Hey Amber, you can use your cell phone for Cricut Design Space. You mentioned labels and honestly the Joy would be prefect for those smaller projects you mentioned. That would cut out the time consuming parts. Yes, any svg files you purchase are compatible. The only error I have seen is when you simply have to make the image smaller for the Cricut machine of your choice to cut it. Just make sure your linetype is on cut. Hello my friend do you have any of the other larger Cricut machines? If so you want to make sure you are selected on the Joy and that your layers are a draw cut only no print. If you selected a print image from design space or online somewhere it will give you that error every time. Let me know if you are able to get going on that project my sweet friend.

First off.....You absolutely chose the right profession. Teaching is what you should ALWAYS do.
I have wanted one of these Cricket Joy's for a few weeks now, but at 65 yrs old, I was a little intimidated to be absolutely honest. Why I am intimidated is anyone's guess. I'm pretty computer savvy, I taught myself out to create Blog Headers years ago, etc. I have made my daughter's and my own clothing for more than 40 yrs as well. So, I really can't tell you WHY I was so worried about getting one of these Cricket Joys....but your wonderful video tutorial changed that it just a few minutes!!! (BTW I found out that my iPhone 6s is compatible with the Cricket Joy too! :)

Absolutely ! I cut vinyl and htv on this little machine to my earrings I sell on my Etsy shop :) If I have a thicker material I just add more pressure before Cutting on the drop menu where default pressure is mentioned. :) OH my gosh I use to live in ABQ. How neat! small world. They will love your custom water bottles. Yes, the Maker 3 is going to be a game changer if you want to do larger decals and more apparel items like shirts and hoodies. You can with the joy, but it limits your sizes. Yes, my old Mac was very grumpy. I upgraded finally so that has helped. :)

Hi, can you get two designs on that small sheet if you divide the images?
Can you use an image that was found online or any other logo not from the cricut joy ? Or you can’t use any images just what’s made for the cricut joy packets.. thanks
Yes ma’am, @Bonnie Lee you can move the item to fit the size you want. You of course would have to adjust the sizes as needed. You can of course add another design from design space that is already uploaded or an image that you’ve purchased👏🤗🌻. If the image is to big for a Joy cut, it will prompt you to make it smaller 🙌. My lettering (project) is not coming off my permanent vinyl onto the transfer tape. What can I do??
Oh my sweet friend that is the worst!! Ok so I recommend using your scraper tool and really scraping over nothing on the top but the back of the sticker backing paper. Do this a few time and you will need to use your weeder tool to help you along in some areas. This can be a long process but if you get it done- it’s a huge victory. I really don’t like smart vinyl - it’s horrible.

I have a Cricut air 2.. do you see any real benefit in getting the joy as well?
Sheastmode, it’s honestly up to you. If you travel or like to partake in craft fairs then I would say go for it!! However, you have an Air!! You’re honestly set 🤗. Again, I do like the Joy for how quick it is to make personalized cards with the blue card insert mat. It’s a few less steps and a quicker process then making it on the bigger machines. What a great idea Marissa! Just be sure to note that really intricate cuts on small pieces may not come out as clear. Also, it depends on what vinyl or material you are cutting. I think you can definitely give it a try. I have cut random pieces and little bits have got on my nails and the smart vinyl sticks great to them.🤩I’ll have to try this out as well my friend. Great video!😀 For years I have been dreaming about buying a digital cutting machine. But I don't know which one to buy. I think this Joy might be ideal. A bit worried about the waste involved when using the cutting mode though. Is it possible to cut the vinyl to size before the cutting and then use the off cut for another time?
Yes you can cut the material to the size you want or leave it and cut it off after and save the extra for another project. Hope this helps.

Informative video. However I'd like to know, how long do the pens or ink cartridges last ? And is the subscription pricy ?
Hello! Great questions. The pens can remain good as along as the caps are on them and away from direct sunlight. The subscription isn’t worth it- I use the platform of design space to set my designs up to the size and scale. but I use Creative Fabrica for all my fonts, graphics and images.
It’s an amazing deal for 1/4 of the cost of the Cricut version but you get commercial license and additional freebies with @CreativeFabrica.

Great tutorial! I always wanted a cricut machine but i was so intimidated. This one makes it look so much easier! Would you say purchasing the tools and extras are necessary when you first get the machine?
They are not a necessary but do help make your projects easier. You will need your materials. Everyday I search for the best quality at an affordable cost and I create links leading straight to them in the description. 3 days ago I had a 50% off coupon that was good for 1 day. These come and go fast for the great deals. Right now Cricut has bundle deals. They cost more but you get more for your money. Hope this helps!

Hello my friend we use various transfer tape. I like the Cricut Joy or contact paper that you can get at the dollar store or Amazon. My weeded tools are Cricut as well ☺️

You mentioned the different sizes for pens etc. I just got my JOY and also ordered these little things that go on the regular circut pens and it makes them fit in the JOY. They weren't expensive. Haven't used them yet so fingers crossed!!!!

I wouldn’t recommend it. The vinyl is says permanent but that’s just for hand washing. :)

Hello friend I am sorry for the delay. You do not need transfer tape for HTV heat transfer items. You only use transfer tape to remove the sticker vinyl images off the sticker backing and add it to your item of choice I.e a bottle, mug, key chain, book etc. I hope this helps. 💕

Is it possible to make car stickers for a front window??
Absolutely, however you are limited to cutting out / or drawing phrases / words on a permanent / outdoor type vinyl. Many companies have a clear UV vinyl to protect any drawn on images and the overall protection of your vinyl cut image.
You cannot print from the joy just FYI.

I enjoyed the tutorial as I'm considering if I should buy a Cricut machine. I'm looking to do projects that will have me using quotes or phrases that I choose from things I see so I can make my own project. If the Cricut Joy allows me to do just lettering and fonts then can I find or purchase fonts to use with it without having to purchase bundles with stuff I don't need or want in it?

Honestly, if you keep your quotes and sayings small. Then a Joy is fine. However, if you ever wanted to make bigger decor or signs- getting a Maker or Explorer Air is definitely worth the extra cost if you are are going to use it regularly 🤩. That you so much for watching Robin 🌻.

Wow, you’ve helped me make my mind up on asking Father Christmas for a Joy. It looks amazing and easy too use. I just want it for card making, but mainly for doing my own sentiments on cards. I currently have CM300 Scan & Cut but I don’t have the pen system and basically I’ve had the machine 3 years and only just getting the hang of cutting my stamp images. The Circut Joy looks just what I need, can’t wait to watch more of your videos. Also all the cups, plates, knives forks are having names put on them, then I know who’s not washed there pots haha gonna have some fun when I get one xxxx

Oh In So glad Lorraine!! You’ll love it. The permanent vinyl I hand wash. If you want it to be safe for dishwasher I would recommend putting a layer of epoxy over it. 🤩👍👍

Draw your images and scan them into your computer and then upload it as a JPEG to your design space.
I'm trying to make my baby shower centerpieces elephant cutouts and guest pins , and tumbler decals do you think this machine is a good way to start with? Or you recommend the maker?

Honestly, I would snag the maker just because you can print out (with a printer) the elephant cut outs or other images with full color. The maker cuts them out. The joy can draw and cut out on paper and vinyl and other Joy materials but please not The Joy only cuts and draws only👍. I will have a tutorial coming out soon to give some more info on the benefits of each 🙌.

You can with vinyl and reverse weeding them.
It seems so wasteful with the materials if you only get one cut from a piece. I would want to position right at edge. Trying to decide if it’s worth it or a money pit for materials.
Oh I absolutely agree ! Just fyi the smart vinyl is what is a waste. Ya it’s nice to not load a mat but it’s a pain to weed and transfer image. Plus like you mentioned it’s default is .25 in down and so you lose a lot of material. This video proved that. So, I use other vinyls and a green mat and position it to get the most out of my materials. That makes it worth the investment.

Why is it that in Australia we always get the raw end of the deal? I cannot set up Cricut without doing so on a desktop computer? Therefore, this renders the machine useless for portability. I cannot set it up on my iPhone or iPad. This really s$|#s me. Can anyone suggest a way to setup on an iPad please?
Ok i saw this and i dont do your normal crafty stuff with the Cricut. I like the long features. what is the hardest/deepest material can this cut? - what is the longest length? i hear quite abit longer than the cricut 12x24 mat.
You can cut 12x24 on the cricut machines. I haven’t attempted a project larger than that yet. You can cut chip board which is the thickest material I have tried so far. The Joy machine doesn’t use a 12x24 it has its much smaller in width but it can cut up to 4ft for banners etc.

How do I not waste the other space of material 😫
The thing that works for me Charley is to organize the image or text on the mat to where I am using as little as possible. The setup that cricut usually sets it up isn’t always in saving material so you will need to adjust it on design space when you click make it and can review your design in the mat. Once you’re happy with the setup. Make it and see how it turns out. The smart vinyl is great but I have learned that the machines regardless of the size of the machine - it will waste a good 1-2 inches from the top. I usually cut those pieces of goof vinyl and use it on my big cricut mat for small projects. That way it gets used. I hope this helps. Let me know. ☺️

Hi! Great video. But you mention an SVG and i don’t know what that is nor do I know how to get it loaded. I have downloaded fonts onto my phone but I do not know how to get the cricut to discover the fonts. Can you explain how to do that for me? Thanks in advance for your help
Hey Laura A, some fonts do not download to a phone device properly as they do on a computer. I attempted it a few times and the ttf. File doesn’t show up on my IOS device and therefore it will not populate into Design Space. It will show up if you download the font on a computer and insert/save it to the fonts on your computer. Then open Design Space and it will populate under the tab System. Be sure to write now the names of the fonts you like best so you can search them quickly. An svg is similar to a font in downloading. Once you save the svg. I save them in a folder on my desktop to find it quicker. One you are in upload on Design Space you can drag and drop the svg to the center and it will add the image. Name and save it. Then click on the uploaded image and click insert in the bottom right hand corner. View your canvas and it should be waiting for you 🤗😁. Sweet Country Glam thanks for the assistance. That was very helpful. I, like some of the other commenters, can’t use my laptop as its too outdated. I’ll have to use my phone. So, I downloaded a font from Etsy and the seller explained how to get it loaded but I am still having trouble. It appears to be an svg but when I go to upload, browse image, then click on the file and go to insert, it shows a picture in the space of the font not the font itself. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Once again, I appreciate any help you can give me. My sister sent me your video (after I’d already watched it) and said “SHE’LL have the answers!” No pressure!

Okay so Laura I tried a svg on my iPhone 11 Pro. It added no issue to Cricut design space. I am wondering if fonts aren’t an acceptable upload. I will look into this further and see if their is a way to save it to your iCloud and upload it. I just know a computer had a font folder and that’s what carries over to Design Space. I am wondering if the phone doesn’t have a font folder that transfers those fonts over. 🤓🧐

Yes, create whatever you want and then make sure it looks right first with the draw outcome before you cut it. Depending on your design you may need to weld the design together as a whole so you get a clean cut. Take your time and enjoy the creativity 🤗. Have a beautiful weekend 🌻.

It reads good on glass. Sometimes it’s nice to give it an offset border in a different color. Like silver vinyl with a white or black offset vinyl underneath. Borders always look nice 👍🏻

Absolutely you can buy whatever vinyl you like. It all varies how it cuts so just be mindful to adjust your pressure as needed. You’ll find what works best with each brand after you use it a few times.

Deondra thank you for watching, the Joy maker is simply a smaller compact version of the larger Cricut machine. Honestly, I would say if you make smaller projects and need smaller cuts for your materials.. then yes the Joy works perfectly. Is the vinyl long lasting? Like if you wash the cup will it come off? And how do I stop it from peeling after transferring to the cup?
July I see the permanent vinyl working that best. I don’t typical wash the cup in the dishwasher. It’s hand washed. Another trick to seal it and not peel is to clear coat it. Similar to how others clear coat their finish mug or drinking cup after they do epoxy. 🌻😎
